I just wanted to quickly demonstrate the usage of the clear tags, since it might not be obvious or intuitive. :)

Vekseid explained it pretty simply: the clear tags force elements below the object(s) to appear below all floated elements on the given side (right or left), or on both sides (if using clearboth).

As an example, say I wanted to have Paragraph 1 flowing to the right of a picture, but I wanted the rest of the text to be forced below the image. I could use the clear tag after the first paragraph to do this. Previously, this couldn't be done without using an extraordinary number of line breaks (which, given the varying screen resolutions of everyone who uses Elliquiy, is messy at best).

They should be used in conjunction with the floatleft and floatright tags. Unlike most BBCode tags, the clear tags do NOT use closing tags (that is, [/clearleft], [/clearright], [/clearboth]).

Note that in all examples below, I have used the padding attribute in conjunction with the image tags for aesthetic reasons. :)



Demonstration #1

Below, I have used the clearleft tag on both paragraphs. Generally, you won't need to use the clear tags in this manner; most people find it sufficient to embed their image into the post without using float tags, and then insert one or two line breaks (hit enter or return once or twice) and continue the text normally.

This will not be very clear if you have a very narrow screen, but for most people it should show up fine.

Below, I have applied the clear tag to only the second paragraph, while floating the image and putting no tags around the first paragraph. As you can see, the first paragraph simply continues on around the image, but the second paragraph is pushed below the floated element.

You could also try this in reverse, with the higher image being on the right and the lower image being on the left. The clear tag you would use, then, would be clearright, not clearleft, if you only wanted to force your text below the higher image (which would be on the right, rather than the left as in these examples).

Hmmm...great idea. I'm wondering if the code could be changed so that it uses the name of the person that started the thread. For example, if I use this in questions in the intro board, it's going to put whoever is reading in the name code. However, if it pulls the name of the person that created the thread, it will always have the applicant's name.

Totally true and you're right. However, I would like to say that when you welcome nearly everyone that applies, the margin of error in messing up names greatly increases. You're also right that it's all copy/pasta anyway. Many people have a list of questions they use. I just use the one - and have several follow-ups in my back pocket. My customization comes from not asking the question, but rather responding to how they answered the question.

Oh I know the errors happen, but that's what makes it more human instead of robotic and automatic (at least to me). It means that, even if the rest of the message is copy/pasted, the opening usually isn't. Mistakes and all. :P

While for people like me with longer usernames, it can be easy to tell when they are using the tag (tag says 'Michi No Sora' when most call me 'Michi'), there are people with shorter names with no nicknames that might find it odd.

Nods to that, it's confusing in the same way as having five people called Nick in the team or class and not knowing who is being referred to when someone says "Nick, can you...". I really want to know whether people are talking to me or about me, or if the reference is just a generic you-ref.

I don't mind it unless I really want to know if my name is supposed to be there.  By reflex I would start ignoring it and that could result ignoring something truly meant for me.

I adjust quickly to things and adapt easily.  There are times when it's unnerving to see my name somewhere and even though I remind myself I'm the only one seeing it I'm left with wasting time to check for the tag or ignoring the post and possibly being rude.  I'm not disliking it, just finding it inconventient.

Mmm. With many of the names here, your "inner circle" of friends will drop attributes and/or shorten the name, so most of the time I'm addressed as Louise or Lou, "gagged" is dropped, and that's how I like it too. But it doesn't happen all the time. And with passages from posts quoted in pm's, it could get really tricky, let's say if the original post contained a "tagged you" but the one who quoted it didn't take care to remove the tag when he/she quoted it.

I've been searching for it, but haven't found it - if you know which it is or run across it, can you let me know and/or change it for me? Anyway, I was wondering if it would be possible to have the [anchor] and [link] tabs here on Elliquiy, or perhaps you can tell me of another way that I'm unaware of that would serve the same purpose. I'm GMing my first game and I'm trying to figure out a way to put a link at the bottom of a character sheet so that, when clicked, the user will be taken back to the top of the same page without loading it in another tab or another instance of the browser. Basically,  I'd like it just jump to a certain point on the same page where I've included links to other character sheets as well as other threads pertinent to the story/game.

I've toyed around with the code and I've managed to get it to jump to the last post on the first page of posts. What am I missing here to have it scan all pages in the entire thread and then jump to the last post? Here's what I'm using right now:

Update, I figured out a workaround that does the trick nicely. Here's the code I used to achieve it:

Basically, what this code says is "go to elliquiy.com forums, find the topic with the assigned number (in my case "110474"), then go the page in that topic with the 20,000th post, and finally go to the last post on that page."

This will work for me a long time since the forums only show 25 posts per page and my game is only on page 2. If my game lasts long enough and there are enough posts to surpass 20,000 posts, then I would need to increase that number, but the chances of that are slim to none.  Since there IS NO page with a 20,000th post, I'm assuming what's happening is that the forum automatically jumps to the page with the post count closest to that number as possible. So by setting the post count to a ridiculously high number (in this case 20,000) you can trick the code into dynamically linking to the last post in a thread.

YAY AND STUFF!!!!  ;D

There is no other Lunarice.  If you read the opening post, Vekseid explains that the [ you ] tag (without the spaces) makes it so that whoever is reading the post sees their user name in the post.  In other words, when I read that exact same post that you read, I see 'Oniya' where you see 'Lunarice'.

That is correct. I've tried it and it doesn't jump to the anchor tag unless I have first opened the spoiler. I'm just curious if perhaps there may be a trick to somehow have the [link] tag first open the spoiler tag and then jump down to the anchor.
