You slipped one by me, 8 levels there, does those totals include your exp penalties? I know the cleric has some there someplace.

Hm?  What EXP penalties?  She's human.

Fighter from 0 - 3 costs 4,000 EXP.  Then she dual classed into Silverstar, where the last 16,000 are spent, making her level 5 Priestess of Selune.

It adds up to a whole lot of non weapon proficiency and weapon specialization in her mace for the price of starting bellow level 6 silverstar.  *Smiles*  It also gives you some of the muscle you were wanting while we still have healing and such.  (Obviously, with cleric base attack progression, she's be substantially weaker in hand to hand combat than the fighters at higher levels.  OR already ,really.  A fighter at this level will have 2 better thaco and probably better than 15 strength.

Til she buffs...)

Dual classing is hard to pull off (stat need of 15 on 1st class, and 17 on second) but it gives "free" levels when starting higher Exp, compared to Multiclassing that hinders progression.
Otherwise, Dual classing it the best way to go. Thats why its only given to humans, as they get no other bonus.

And what comes to "Cleric" there is no Xp penalty anywhere, other that its the sickest class in 2ed. Best spells, best saves, best XP progression, second best HPs, and it even get bonus spells from stats, where wizards/bards do not. (and not even mentioning Specialty priests, as they get even more bonuses.)

Question: What happens, if Strength spell is cast on Dual class human (with Fighter levels) ? Do s/he get +d8 str or +dX based on s/he's new class? and would it take it to % if going over 18 ?
(just hypoterical question, as my blade singer has Strength spell)

Pesky questions!

1) Is the Complete Book of Humanoids allowed?
2) if not, can I make a kender?  >:)
3) Unearthed Arcana allowed?
4) Anything else?

At any rate, ability rolls!
6, 3, 6, 6, = 18. Uh... off to a fucking good start!
3, 5, 2, 4, =12
1, 5, 5, 3, reroll the one: 5, = 15
2, 6, 5, 4, = 15
2, 1, 5, 5, reroll the one: 3, = 13
5, 5, 4, 5, = 15

I... I take back all the foul things I have ever said about the E roller.

1) Is the Complete Book of Humanoids allowed?

No, as I don't have it myself, sorry.

2) if not, can I make a kender?  >:)

As tempting as that would be, I'm going to have to say no. Kender are way, way, way too much for me to handle and libel to get the party killed just because I love to play with them.... and all it'll take is one "oops..."

3) Unearthed Arcana allowed?

I'll allow this one as I do have it, but be very careful, anything you pull from it will probably bite you in the ass. ;)

4) Anything else?

I don't know, is there anything else that you want to ask? The limitations are directly related to what I have access to. That being most of the race guides, class guides and the primary guides. I will grant each character either a magical weapon or magical armor (You may request particular items in PM) and a wish list. You may even get something from that list. If anyone remembers how to create a AD&D flashlight, I may throw that in for free. ;)

Day-em... I guess Muse did roll his stats then. lol Why doesn't dicebot work that well for me?

On the other question... let me go back and see what it was...

A Strength spell works regardless of class. When it hit's 18, it starts going into percentile before it goes to 19. So, no, if you cast it on a 15 strength, you won't see a 23.

Muse: I thought that you, when telling me about that speciality priest that there was an XP modifier. Iff not, then there isn't. But it seemed to stick in my mind for some reason. I can do the math and you were more clever than I was with it's use. I only recall dual-classing twice in all of the years that I played... of course that was more because my DM made me lose a level in the process... When I s. As I remember it, I wanted to switch from a rogue to a fighter at 4th level. I had to gain enough XP for 5th level rogue, THEN start at 0 for 1st level fighter... but didn't get 5th level rogue. Anyway...

Hmmm. And now the thinking. Maybe i'll thumb through a few of the art books and see if something percolates.

I'm leaning towards a thief of some flavor, or perhaps a fighter-y type. Even a priest 'cause hey - 2nd edition priests are flexible as all hell :-)

Muse

Wowsa, ,Chula-kun.  I don't feel so guilty about my stats anymore.  That said, I'm wondering if our dice roller has been replacedby a pod person...

I think playing a thief or fither/thief ould make our GM very happy.

Also, silly Chula, Unearthed Arcana is first edition. ;)

*  *  *

Blinkin, now I understand what you meant.  It's not an experience point penalty, it's that they use the druid chart.  I forgot how fast they could advance at lower levels.  Was only remembering how cleric hits 20th level somehwere in the 2 millions, whereas specialty priests (And druids) require somewhere in the 5 million.

Blinkin, I think the other part of Miroque's question would work with this example:  If Miro's character cast the Strength Spell on Aileeana, would she roll d8 or d6 to find out how much strenth Ailee gained.  (D8 for fighter or d6 for priest.)

I tend to think that the lesser of the two apply. Like rounding down, it's sort of the same thing to me. So, a D6, which is still useful either way.

So far we're looking at a possible kender, a drow, and a human for the character races?
Coming soon...

Sarah Morgan

Hi all,

I just wanted to come in and say that although I won't be joining in the actual game, I'm enjoying reading the discussion, and looking forward to seeing how the actual IC adventures themselves develop.  I honestly thought I'd have more time for reading up on the game rules, but studying for midterms, classes, and satisfying internship requirements for my major took more energy out of me than I thought.  Luckily this week is spring break, though I still have a midterm to work on, consisting of all essays, which I'm not looking forward to.  Anyway, I wanted to apologize, and hope that if any other games are run in future, I might have the opportunity to join.  Until then, I'll be reading along, and hopefully catching up on the rules/supplemental books once midterms are over.

Blinkin

So far... no Kender, that race is out. But we have a human and a drow. There's an elf out there someplace, I think, and the others were, apparently, unable to come up with some kind of concept until I gave creation guidelines.

Sarah, no worries. Life gets in the way of all of us from time to time and I remember mid-terms way, way too well even 25 years later. If you want a chance in another game sometime, you'll be welcome in one of mine.

I've seem to hit a bit of a wall.  I had been utilizing pdf's of the books and for whatever reason my phb is just gone.  Actually, I'm finding a lot of my TSR books missing including a few Alternity books and some campaign specific stuff as well.  I'm...really confused right now.  Going to see if I gave a copy to one of my friends first.

Secured books!  will begin the crunch build of the Human Bard tomorrow morning.  I'm off tomorrow anyway.  I'm just lacking the mental fortitude to try to go through that stuff I haven't had to have memorized in a few years.

EDIT:

WIP sheet.  It's at least a start.

Making a barbarian-flavored human fighter now.

What languages are people looking at?

I'm looking at survival-flavored non-weapon proficiencies, so I've got Fire-building, Survival: Arctic, and Hunting so far.

Hope this is visible. Here's the base sheet. I'm not sure if I missed anything, if I did and you notice, let me know. I still have two non-weapon or language proficiencies to pick up, I was waiting for advice on languages before proceeding there.

Just gonna leave my hit dice rolls here...
4, 2, 4, 4, 3,
Re-rolling 2: 1,
Re-rolling 1: 5,

Blinkin

Sadly, I cannot "see" either Mythweavers or Plothook, so we'll have to work on that.

Hit Die, full at 1st, then roll for the other levels, rerolling anything less than half.

My intention is to take the characters all over the world, so languages will be useful. Any of the common ones would be acceptible, although if anyone picks something exotic, like draconic, I'll ask for a story on how the character learned it. All of the playable races will speak the trade tongue, AKA Common, but it'll be spotty elsewhere.

She's sexy, Kirby.  And I love the halberd specialist choice.  :)  Along with the +1 damage from strength 16 she should kick some serious butt!

Have you looked at the kits in Complete Fighter's Handbook?  (Not necessary, of course.)

  Whoa!  Talia's really tall, I hadn't noticed that before.  : )

Aileeana has hunting too, along with dog training.  No survival or fire building--but she cooks well and can heal with both magic and herb lore.  :)

I had her speaking low drowic and silent speech, but if we haven't known Miro's girl long enoguh or well enough to learn those, I can reasign those proficinecy slots to handy things.  It would be pretty cool if we could all speak Silent Speech, though.  : )

Doubly so in an all girl team.  (Like Maiden Hand Talk from Wheel of Time.)

Everyone has been in the party long enough to know each other well. If our drow wants to teach hand-speach, it's ok.  A bit hard to do with both hands full, but it's ok.

A small warning. If anyone even hints in their background or attitudes that they do not want to be part of the group, I'll not be happy. It's a small pet peeve, you see.

Random dice rolls based on the table.  I tried that with age too but it kept giving me 16-17 and wasn't sure how comfortable anyone would be with a character that young; even if the person behind the character is in their 20's and the person behind that character is nearly 30.

I usually end up with extra short characters ( male and female) so it's a good change of pace.

Mm, I'll copy it someplace else then. Do you have any preference? Just hide it behind a spoiler-block?

And would Common be the native-language for humans then? Or would we have a different native tongue, and speak Common? I didn't see a list of languages when I was going through the book.

Thanks. I like polearms, but there weren't a whole lot of pictures of female barbarians wielding them. Thankfully I found one I liked.

And I haven't looked at any kits. All I know about AD&D I just learned while building this character, so I don't know anything about kits.

Blinkin

The human tongue is "common" because humans are by far the most common species, it's kinda like english is the most common language in business, even though english is only the 4th or 5th most common "native" language. It's just the one that everyone speaks.

The list of languages is pages long, including many monster languages and racial ones. Elven, dwarven, gnome, halfling, orcish, knoll, kobald, draconic, etc, etc, etc. If you know anything about any fantasy game, it's all pretty much the same.

I hate to ask this, but...could I switch character ideas? I found an idea I like a lot better. it's a somewhat similar idea, a priestess of the unicorn goddess Lurue.
