Atlantis

A name that has remained a mystery for centuries. For so long the name has evoked a mystery of theories and studies, but never has been found. Until now...

A few years into the future a merchant ship passing through the Atlantic ocean after a rough sea storm, found what appeared to be a dead giant octopus floating in the water, but upon further investigation they found that it was much different than thought. Bringing it on board they found it to be a fully robotic octopus. Its systems were heavily damaged and did not power up or attempt to escape. The ships curious attitude got the better of them and when they tried to pry the robot open, they must have activated a self destruct and the internal systems fried themselves to protect their secrets. Once in port the crew flaunted their prize in front of the world news media. With a world wide media craze, governments meet in secret to accuse each other of secretly making the robot, to no ones surprise everyone denied making the mysterious robot. The only clue to the robots origin was a widely circulated logo from the robot that brought back the legacy.

The Legacy of Atlantis, the Lost City

A wave of new interest in the old stories of Atlantis and its mysterious shook the world to its core, hundreds of scientific ships flooded the Atlantic in the areas where the original merchant ship had been. Dozens of official expeditions trying to find more evidence of the mysterious nation. All efforts failed, due to the lack of technology that could go deep enough to hit the bottom of the ocean. The wide belief was that if the city could build such an advanced robot, that they could have an entire civilization beneath the sea. One expedition from the United Kingdom was finally able to find a break, as their expedition was finishing up and heading for home, a mysterious ship rose from the sea. The ship stopped and saw the same logo on the new ship as was on the robot squid. The large submarine pulled alongside the expedition ship, and then history was changed forever. A small robot probe came from the submarine and delivered a simple message to the crew.

"Saturday, 5:00 pm, United Nations, Ambassador will speak"

Then as quickly as it had come, the submarine went back into the deep. The crew now elated to have seen another Atlantian ship, quickly returned to the mainland with their small amount of video, photos, and simple message. The news frenzy was ecstatic, the news had been found on a Monday. Meaning in only a few days, the world would see an Atlantian for the first time in history. When the time finally came, the entire world tuned into the news that showed the United Nations assembled in the large audience room. At precisely 4:50 pm, the same ship spotted by the expedition was sighted rising from the sea, next to the UN building. Ramps were quickly extended from the ship and the world got its first glimpse of a citizen of Atlantis. The Ambassador walked with a calm and graceful walk all the way to the podium at the head of the assembled nations. The speech was engaging and interesting, the Ambassador confirmed the existence of the lost city and that it had been watching the world for centuries, waiting for an appropriate time to reveal themselves, but since the incident with the robot, their hand was forced sooner than they would have liked. She kept the details of their civilization vague, but at the end of her speech, she extended an invitation by the "Lord of the Sea" as she put it. The invitation was for a group of surface persons to travel back to Atlantis with the Ambassador to see Atlantis for themselves. The speech ended, but the questions did not. The Ambassador did not take any questions or comments from the assembled party, when asked who to send with her, she only stated that any citizen wanting to come with her should submit a message to their government, and the final choice would be hers of the assembled applications.

Weeks of searching and a group has been assembled to go with the Ambassador back to their brethren beneath the sea. Some come for the adventure, some for knowledge, and some come...for more sinister motives...

What I would like to see from the game:

Now that I possibly have your attention, its now time to explain how the game would work if interest is shown. The game would start as the group of people coming with the Ambassador see Atlantis for the first time, with the Ambassador setting the ground rules about their conduct within the city.

The game itself would be learning about the history, culture, political structure, and anything having to do with the lost civilization. Just as if this was a real deal, the humans will have no knowledge of Atlantis, only knowing folklore or stories of Atlantis from their own sources. If there is interest in playing as a Atlantian themselves I will welcome that. This is of course not set in stone and is welcome for suggestions from the members of Elliqiuy.

The overall theme of the game will be exploring the unknown, mixed with an underlying sense of something wrong within Atlantis. The nagging questions of why they chose now to reveal themselves, and why they have done so. An Aura of mystery and danger surrounding the visitors.

Its open for any character you can think of. Its an open invitation. Though scientists, artists, military, and scholars would be the most effective at learning. I would also like to see some Atlantian characters, though you would probably need to PM me for any idea relating to that.

AribethAmkiir

Pretty sure I'm interested.   I'd like to play a doctor or possibly scientist more interested in discovery and meeting a new culture than anything nefarious.

AngelicBlade

I'd be interested in playing a Special Ops Military man, who's secrete mission is to gather info about the city, if that's alright.

Vostroya

UniqueQ

I would like to play some one from Atlantis, I will pm you in my idea.

AribethAmkiir

Do you want us to submit character sheets or are you still looking for interest?

Vostroya

I'd like to see more interest before I post the character sheets. Hopefully we will get some.

Chou chou rheastar

I would love to be part of this!! I'd be a female artist, or novelist. I'd also be interested in your ideas for Atlantian's if you need someone to play one of them.

Vostroya

#11
Excellent I could use both if you would be willing.

And so everyone knows I will be posting up the character sheets later today.

Oliander

Interesting. I like the concept of a mystery RP with a focus on discovery and information-gathering. It makes things tense and with a group of people with wildly different interests makes things even more tense.

As for me, I was thinking I'd make a representative to some international conglomerate with the intent of staking a financial claim on Atlantis.

Vostroya

That's a great idea, if he were to be successful, it could make his company billions! Haha

Kdyami

I'm interested.  Do you still need a few Atlantians?
Hey all I'm property of the U.S government and as such I may randomly disappear for a day or two.  I apologize in advance but I'll get back to you ASAP

Vostroya

Sure, send me a PM about your character idea.

Frelance

I am interested in making a character for this. Either a human who has spent most of his life diving or in submarines. He would want the thrill of going where few have been before. So when the invitation to go and see Atlantis he took it.

I might make an Atlantian but I do not have an idea for one yet.

Frelance

Thats for the welcome. I will flesh out the character and have him up soon.

I am still interested in making an Atlantian. What are you looking for in the Atlantian characters?
Evolution is an arms race

Vostroya

Nobles of Atlantis seem to be the popular choice, so you can do that if you wish. I will PM you the info I sent the other Atlantian character players.

Kdyami

Hey everyone, I'm off to work but I wanted to leave you with what I've got so far.  Vostroya approves, but any thought's would be much appreciated.  And I'll flash this out when I get home, its mostly main points not a lot of details. See you around.

Played by: Kdyami
Character Name: Faergul (fey-air-gull)
Age: 132
Sex: male
Physical description:
Height: 5'8
Weight: 180 lbs (Dense & Lean Muscle Mass)
Eyes: Violet
Hair: Silver with Violet Highlights
Skin: Often able to find all forms of scraps and bruises cause by battle or just training.
Style of Dress: typically covered in a weatherproof black cloak, scarf, and cowl which covers most of his features, however the keen eye will notice that he isn’t human. He's always wearing a sword; an Atlantean-crafted falchion sheathed inside his cloak along his back. Falling from his waist lies a sash with the insignia of his parents clan, A’Rikdun.

Role: Protector.  Not everyone in the city is peaceful.  And not all enemies are within the city therefore a small standing military is important.  The protectors branch is specifically tasked with protection of the city as well as the distinguished members of government; i.e. the king and the nobels council.

How do you feel about the human visitors?  He doesn’t get paid to think, he gets paid to protect.  That being said; Human’s fight a lot, which makes Faergul’s job harder.  But he thinks the risk may be worth the reward.

Character Personality: Strong silent type with a playful & friendly attitude. Often is humble due to his upbringing from his, adopted, Wise Playful Father and Strict Disciplinary Mother.   Faergul believes there is nothing he cannot do if he puts his mind to it.

Character History:  Faergul doesn’t remember anything before the orphanage.  While there, there was a fight, Faergul broke it up but during the fight his eyes turned violet, the mark of the A’Rikdun.  The head of the orphanage called the A’Rikdun and soon after Faergul was taken in by them. The A’Rikdun are particularly adept at creating “manifesting” technology.  From the first day Faergul put on his caster gloves it was obvious he was a natural.  As such he received special training in order to be placed in the protectors, the Tinechor.  A special branch of the military reserved for the best of the best.  Placing someone in their ranks is a great honor for the individual but also the clan.
Hey all I'm property of the U.S government and as such I may randomly disappear for a day or two.  I apologize in advance but I'll get back to you ASAP

Chou chou rheastar

Here is my idea for a human character. Sorry I tend to go overboard on the details....

Played by: Chou Chou Rheastar
Character Name: Alara Craine
Age: 25
Sex: Female
Physical description: Alara is very petite, standing at around 5’3 she doesn’t take up much space. Her hair is a rich, dark red in color and falls in thick curls down to her shoulder blades. Her eyes are a vibrant green with flecks of gold hidden in their depths. She had round cheeks with a defined face and her dimples are obvious when she smiles. Her face is very expressive and mobile and broadcasts what she is feeling. Alara is very slender and delicate appearing, with small hands, feet, and waist.

Role: Travel Writer/Fantasy Novelist
Why does your character want to go to Atlantis? Alara is a four time New York Bestselling Author. Her novel series has become the next big thing since Twilight and her travel writing is almost as popular. Yet, she can’t find a single thing to write about. Her private life non-existent and the need for a new book to be submitted soon, coupled with a childhood love of Atlantis, drive her to request to be one of the people sent to Atlantis. She hopes to find the spark there that ignites her creativity and maybe her life once more.
Character Personality: Alara has two personalities. One is her Public Bestselling Novelist persona. The other is her true self. In public Alara is very bubbly and outgoing, able to smooze and socialize among the highest class of people. She has an innate ability to get people to enjoy being around her and to seek out her company. Alara is very comical and uses her expressive face and quick wit to get people to laugh and be at ease around her. She appears very confidant and aggressive with the opposite sex. She is seen as the fun loving and slightly materialistic party girl.

Her true personality is what people who only know her through business and through the public eye never see. Alara is at heart a very shy and sensitive person. She takes everything people do or say to heart and will agonize over the things she said to people or the things she did, over thinking everything to make sure she never cause someone distress or discomfort. She prefers to be quiet and do things like read or draw instead of the parties and events she is required to attend as a wellknown novelist. She is a very submissive type person, always deferring to others opinions or needs. Although, in business she can be ruthless about getting what she wants and can negotiate a deal to benefit her.

Her secret desires are at beast kinky and at most wild but she has a hard time approaching men she truly finds attractive. But, with the right man, she will truly let herself go and reveal her more crazy, wild desires.

Character History: Alara was born in the cargo hold of a merchant ship from Russia on it’s way to America. Her father worked on board the ship for the Russian mafia and had smuggled her mother on board in hopes of starting a new life in America and getting away from his shady past. The ship was raided upon arriving in the States because it was suspected of having ties with the Russian Mafia. Alara’s father was accidentally killed in the ensuing chaos and a kind law enforcement agent took pity on her mother and helped obtain papers for them to stay in America.

The same agents soon became Alara’s step father when he fell in love with her mother and they married. A widower, he had two sons who were five and three years older than Alara. Unlike some mixed families there was no strife between the family members and they were all very happy to be together. Alara’s stepfather loved her like she was truly his own and his sons treated her like their true sister. They became very protective of the smaller sibling and were like her body guards at school against anyone wanting to bully the Russian girl.

Alara was raised speaking fluent Russian, English, and Spanish because her father believed knowing her home language as well as other languages was important. Her mother told her countless Russian fairy tales and folklore and Alara quickly developed a love of storytelling and history. She could always be found with her nose in a book or writing.

At age 10, her mother developed cancer and her family was thrown into turmoil. The cost of her mothers medical bills caused her father to work many hours and take on more dangerous (better paying) missions to support their family. Her eldest brother got a part time job to help and Alara and her other brother took over the household chores her mother was unable to manage. Alara’s mother was in and out of the hospital for five years and had surgery to try to remove all the cancer. Unfortunately, around Alara’s sixteenth birthday her mother’s cancer came back much stronger and she soon passed away.

Her step-father was heartbroken to loose yet another wife and threw himself heedlessly into his work. Alara rarely saw him and both of her brothers had moved out to go to college. Alara retreated into herself and became angry and resentful towards everyone. She started sneaking out at night and hanging out with older men who were of a very bad reputation. Her father was never home and her brothers rarely saw her so Alara continued un-noticed in this pattern for over a year until her father was injured and had to stay home to recover. Finally forced to drag himself from his grief, as well as being forced to see a psycologist because of his injury, he noticed Alara’s strange behaviour. There were many huge fights and Alara even ran away for a few days before they started to work through things. Alara started to try harder to spend time with people her own age and stopped sneaking out at night. Her brothers even started trying to come home more to spend time as a family.

After she graduated high school Alara was accepted into a prestigious Art College on a full scholarship that even paid for her to get a small apartment of her own. Her eldest brother had opened a restaurant which had become popular with celebrities in Manhattan and was helping her father pay off his debts left over from Alara’s mother’s illness. Her other brother had joined the Marines and was never able to tell them where he was until after his mission was over. He always sent Alara beautiful and rare things from his travels all over the world.

After college Alara sold her first travel book. She had taken a year old trip to Russia to try and find her family. Much to her surprise she had family on both her Mother’s and Father’s side still living in Russia and they were overjoyed to be re-connected with her. They had feared all three of them had perished on the journey to America. Her book was about her journey to find her family and see her families Russia.

After that book she started her Fantasy series and it instantly became a bestseller. She split her time between her father’s house in the States and her family in Russia instead of buying her own home. Never having man longterm relationships she had one relationship with an older man in the Russian mafia until she had to get away from him for fear of his families more sinister ties.

When the Atlanteans came she had been in the States with her father. Jumping at the chance she now waits patiently to hear if she will be one of the lucky few who are accepted to go to Atlantis.

Hidden Because of Size

Played by: Chou Chou Rheastar
Character Name:Nihlariyah (Niya to her friends)
Age:150
Sex: Female
Physical description: Standing at just under 5’6 she is slender and lithe in appearance. Her body is slightly toned as is the norm for Atlantean’s but her pursuits are not athletic so she is not heavily muscled. She has pure blue eyes that are almost cerulean in color and pale milky skin that is marked from the left side above her eyebrow all the way down her neck, shoulder, side, and left hip and leg in brilliant blue Atlantean symbols and markings. These marks symbolize the house of A’ruun, the house of artists. She has long white-blonde hair that falls to her ankles in a thick waterfall, she sometimes adds streaks of blues and greens to mimic the water she lives in when she is feeling truly artistic. Her right ear has been heavily pierced and usually has intricate, thin, chains of silver threaded through multiple holes all the way to the tip and dripping down to brush her shoulder.
Role: Artist. Nihlariyah is one of the most well known artists of her generation and is currently working on a spectacular work near the entrance of the city.
How do you feel about the human visitors? She is excited to meet with them and learn more about their art and history so she can incorporate it into her work.
Character Personality: Some might think Nihlariyah is slightly snobbish and aloof because of her age and the fact that her family is very scholarly despite being artistic. A person couldn’t be farther from the truth in thinking that though, because Nihlariyah loves to talk to anyone and everyone. Constantly wishing to learn she is always seeking out new ideas and inspiration for her artwork. One of the few people in her family to participate in traditional artworks as well as the art of tattooing she has cultivated a style all her own when it comes to marking the body. She is very loyal to her friends and has a healthy adventurous streak that tends to get her into trouble when she goes adventuring. Nihlariyah loves to participate in debate and will strike up a conversation with anyone she meets to learn more about any subject which pops into her head. She especially loves speaking with the guards and protectors of the city since they are the few who see violence in Atlantis’ relatively peaceful community. It inspires her to paint and create.
Character History: Nihlariyah is the eldest born of three siblings, all of which are girls. Her family was the origin of Atlantean artistry and are famous for their works of art throughout Atlantis. Their handiwork can be traced back to the very beginning of Atlantis and they are one of the noble families. Ever the adventurous one she was constantly having to be rescued from some of her adventures gone wrong. She could always be found creating and drawing and even while in school she was more drawn to the artistic side of learning instead of the hard sciences. Her sisters are both married and living with their husband’s families but Nihlariyah still has not found someone she wishes to be with, preferring to spend time among interesting men who challenge her mind and cause her to create. She also has started working more on her tattooing, creating family markings that were the traditional blue, as well as personal markings if people come to her with an interest. She is very excited for the human’s to come to Atlantis so she can study their culture and art more in depth.

Character Name: David Mctavish
Age: 27
Sex: Male
Physical description: David is leanly built as he spends his most time in the lab and field, though he is quite fit as well. He is around 5' 8" tall with light brown hair, which he always keeps short and neatly trimmed and soft blue eyes. He has a slightly aquiline nose and a well defined face with firm cheeks.

Role: Scientist (Natural Biologist)

Why does your character want to go to Atlantis? David is a very curious person and having spent quite some time in the natural world, he sees this opportunity not only to see the Atlantis of myth and learn of its culture, but also to learn about the Atlantians as a whole... as well as the unique animals that he might not get a chance to learn anywhere else in the world.

Character Personality: David is first a foremost a friendly and outgoing person, if a tad curious due to his line of work. He is always eager to help others, and has a light sense of humor. Being a natural biologist, he appreciates the beauty of nature and he gets rather upset when people do harm to the earth and driving some of the more endangered species closer and closer to extinction which he doesn't want to see happen in his life.

Character History:  David was born in a family of scientists, both his father and mother were naturalists which instilled a love of nature in his heart since he was young. It was no surprise that he grew up under the tutelage of his parents, sometimes helping out in the cataloging of information that they gathered during their trips while he was in high school. When he graduated, he went to college and then later university, majoring in Biology and graduated with honors.

He soon found himself going with his parents on their trips, learning more about the field that he was majoring in hands on and in the coming years, he became a rather famous natural biologist himself which pleased his parents to no end. Now an opportunity was given him to be part of the select few people that gets to go to Atlantis... and he was eager to discover and learn about the things he might find there in the mythical continent of legend.

Character Name: Adair Drake

Age: 27

Sex: Female

Physical description: Standing at 5'8" with dark brown hair, fair skin, and arresting blue eyes, Adair is a slim, attractive woman with well proportioned curves that she keeps in shape with yoga and jogging. Her usual attire includes sharp suits in the office or when meeting clients but otherwise she is usually dressed rather casually. She has a tattoo of a water dragon on her left hip, three piercings in each ear, and is left handed. She switches between glasses and contacts depending on her mood.

Role: Architect / Artist

Why does your character want to go to Atlantis? Its the chance of a lifetime! At the architecture firm where she works Adair is known as the up and coming risk taker. She often is paired with the more adventurous clients as she has a knack for taking their wants and needs and coming up with the unexpected... and its actually good. Her personal art reflects these same qualities yet in both areas she still manages to demonstrate an appreciation for history and various cultures and movements. She wants the chance to study the Atlantean culture and bring it back to the masses in a way that is respectful but will also still showcase her talents both privately and professionally. Not to mention beneath that sometimes too serious exterior lies a very curious and adventurous woman.

Character Personality: Adair is usually rather quiet, preferring to observe and learn rather than talk but she is by no means shy. In fact, she is actually quite confident, sharp, intelligent, and is very driven. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go and get it. Unfortunately she can also be rather absent minded once she get focused on a specific task or project, sometimes to the point that she will forget to even eat. This has effectively sidelined any potential long term relationships and made her the queen of flings and one-nighters, which has worked for her.
Overall, Adair is very open minded with her own unique outlook on things and enjoys being shown new ideas and perspectives. Most times her expression is rather sober but she is usually not nearly so heavy as her expression might suggest and her eyes will clearly communicate the truth of her feelings whether she wants them to or not. In addition, Adair has been known to "geek out" on occasion which causes her whole face to light up and might induce rambling.

Character History: Adair has been an artist her whole life. From an early age she was always drawing and painting and exploring whatever mediums she could get her hands on. Growing up as the only child of a highly respected professor of cultural anthropology she was exposed to a number of different cultures and that only seemed to fuel her interest. In school Art and History were her favorite subjects but it wasn't until she took Architectural Design as an elective in high school that she realized what she wanted to do. Oh she still loved playing with various mediums and digging into moments in history and taking pieces of other cultures to include in her personal projects but architecture specifically seemed to call to her. She liked the challenge of making art flow around the laws of physics and meeting certain standards and codes while still creating something beautiful and functional.

After high school, Adair was able to attend the large University where her mother worked tuition free. She was also accepted to several other schools of Architecture but ultimately elected to stay close to her mother, though she did live on campus rather than at home. After 7 years of study, which included going abroad twice in her undergrad years as well as a couple of summer internships, Adair received her Master's degree and shortly after passed the proper exams to be officially licensed. She then had her choice of positions at a few small and more progressive firms, finally settling on one that seemed to respect her more adventurous style. In the three years she has been there, she has quickly proven herself to be on top of her game, and though she has only just started to handle clients on her own she is already building a solid reputation.

Her boss was ecstatic to hear of her interest in going on the mission to Atlantis, though that was partially because he was thinking of the potential for increased revenue. Still, he supported her and did all he could to help, including assuring Adair she would still have a job should she be selected. Her mother, being a cultural anthropologist, is equally excited for the opportunity and even as they wait to hear the decision she has been nagging her daughter over proper etiquette when interacting with an unknown culture.

Character Name: Tekk

Age: 143

Sex: Male

Physical description:Six foot two, strong lean muscle, well defined.  Steel silver hair, neon blue eyes.

Role: Protector

How do you feel about the human visitors? He's not too fond of it.  The humans are a young and very dishonored race only believing in bettering themselves individually not as a whole and destroying or converging anything that is not like them.  He is very leery and does not trust the humans.

Character Personality: Fairly easy going, mellow and to the point.  Does not believe in holding his tongue, which gets him into trouble now and them.  Very loyal to those he serves and is more than willing to cut down anyone endangering himself or his people.  He can often be cold towards outsiders, but is fairly humorous towards his own.

Character History:Unlike most of the other Protectors Tekk wasn't born into the role and trained from youth.  He was born a common boy and raised on the fields harvesting and growing like many of his brothers and sisters.  Being the youngest he was also the runt of the group.  However fighting among his older brothers he became quite good at defending himself and when the city came under attack while his family was hiding he managed to kill an enemy, take their weapon and hold off the enemies attacking the civilians.  One of the Protector's saw him and his potential and trained him personally.  The Protector was the captain of the armies and after about twenty years of dedication and training he became one of the many civilians to become raised to the rank of Protector.  Coming from such a low rank Tekk often times receives a lot of flack for his poor uprising but he sees himself as a skilled warrior and often times proves this to those who wish to speak low of him.
"Yeah war is the answer like I told you before, you're a coward with no power just a stain on the floor.  If you're a man be a man, stop running your lips.  Round three no mercy, it's the way of the fist"

Excellent character. I should have the RP up tonight, due to me only having access to the Internet by phone at work.

Didact

Hey, is there any more room for interested people, or are you all full up?

Vostroya

Of course! Welcome to the game. What type of character did you want to make?

I was thinking about playing an antagonistic Atlantean nobleman or merchant prince. Someone who sees something to gain from the newcomers and wants to use them as  a piece of political or economic leverage. He might not be out-an-out evil, but he's certainly interested in making sure things go his way, and it might lead him to conflict with the other characters.

Do you have any suggestions? I'm new to the site, so I'm not sure how this all works. Should I post a character sheet?

Vostroya

Interesting concept, you can post a character sheet here.

Character Name: Daegon nar Daeshir A'Rakat

Age: 147

Sex: Male

Physical description: Standing at 6'4" and broad-shouldered, Daegon is a specimen of perfect Atlantian breeding. His body, toned like those of all Atlantians, is slightly more muscular than those of the rest of his countrymen, the product of years spent fighting in the wilds outside of Atlantis. Across his taut abdomen and chest are three long scars, which Daegon chose to outline with white tattoos. The combination of pale skin, tattoos and steely-eyed gaze make no mistake about Daegon's former occupation or his current resolve. Like many Atlantians, Daegon is ambidextrous.

Role: Noble

How do you feel about the human visitors? When the tool one needs arrives, one gives little thought as to where it came from. One uses it.

Character Personality: "Arrogant, rash, violent and slightly mad" were the words the King used to describe Daegon. Though still young by Atlantian standards, he has accomplished much, and possesses an entirely un-Atlantian affinity for violence. Daegon, realizing his reputation as a power-hungry brute, has exploited and cultivated this impression by devoting almost all of his House's free males to the Protectors, and publicly indulging in the war-sports at the Atlantian Arena. Underneath this bloodthirsty veneer, however, is a calculating and opportunistic mind.

Character History: Daegon was born to into the A'Rakat House, one of the more bloodthirsty of Atlantis' noble clans. As the oldest son of the ailing Lord Daeshir nar Varan A'Rakat, Daegon was first in line for the House throne, and was expected to join the Protectors. However, when Daegon's squad was lost during a routine patrol, his half-sister Aera had him formally declared dead so that she would be first in line to the throne when Daeshir finally died.

Daegon spent the next ten years in the wilderness, surviving in air pockets and fighting off attacks from aquatic wildlife and worse things. With his squad dead and with no way of contacting Atlantis, he grew cold and ruthless in solitude. An Atlantian patrol found him devouring a squid he'd slain with a piece of jagged seashell, and after a struggle returned him to the city. Although House A'Rakat celebrated Daegon's return, Aera disappeared that night and was never seen again. With no proof that Daegon had removed his half-sister from the picture and no motive now that his claim was recognized, suspicion turned to the disappeared noblewoman's bodyguard, whose attentions she had spurned. The bodyguard was found guilty of the murder and imprisoned, leaving Daegon and Daeshir to rule alone.

Daeshir now rules House A'Rakat in name only, with his half-mad son Daegon controlling the House from behind the throne. Daegon sits at the meetings of the King, provides counsel and speaks for his father. It is only a matter of time, though, before the King or some other body moves against Daegon and attempts to put down the violent and depraved house. Daegon eagerly awaits that day.

Looks good didact. As for everyone I won't post the kings profile, as I want to keep a sense of mystery and intrigue about him.

As for when we begin, when does everyone want to start at in regards to the story timeline? The humans seeing Atlantis for the first time? Or meeting the king after being escorted from the ship?

Didact

I like the idea of starting with the humans seeing Atlantis for the first time. It gives us a good place to start off geography-wise, so we know where things are.

Kokaine

I agree. That will likely be a big moment for my girlie anyhow.

Nice post. I'm working on a reply.

Here's another question (sorry, I'm full of them): is indentured servitude, slavery or some other form of self-effacing servitude legal in Atlantis?

Also, are Atlantians the only sapient race apart from humans?

One last annoying question: how much free reign do we nobles have in determining how our respective Houses show Atlantian culture? Can we make up traditions, customs and language, or do you want to set some stuff in stone?

Vostroya

No problem, creating a whole new culture makes alot of questions.

Slavery is allowed in certain cases. One such example would be a criminal, instead of being imprisoned and wasting resources on him, he would be Indentured for the term of his punishment (i.e. Sentenced to 20 years, 20 years of servitude) the person would serve the house that the crime was committed against. (Can't think of any other situations for it, but im open to ideas for it)

Yes Atlantians are the only sapient race other than humans

I will give alot of leeway in how a noble wants their house to be. Since each house would need to be independent in some form or fashion. Language, however, would need to be set in stone. As well as the military and protectors of the city. Which I can elaborate on if needed. Restrictions on the houses are what the King decrees and wants from them. The Kings authority is absolute in Atlantis.

Didact

Okay, awesome. For language, I was thinking of a syllable-timed OSV (Xavante-style) language with seven morphological cases, with the standard Indo-European dative, ablative, nominative, accusative, genitive and vocative case, plus an additional religious or honorific case used in formal grammar. To keep with the theme of Atlantis being a lost civilization from an archaic period of human history, I thought the alphabet might resemble glyphs derived from piscine ideography, forming smooth symbols instead of jagged cuneiform wedges. Is that alright?

Vostroya

Sure ok, that sounds good, even though I would need an example of it if we are to use it in the game.

Didact

Object-Subject-Verb is a word order system. Instead of saying "I saw you," it would be "You I saw," which is rarely used unmarked in most languages outside of the Amazon basin. Grammatical case is the inflection of a word to reflect function, and is mainly used in classical languages like Greek, Latin and Sanskrit. Syllable timing is used to determine stress in words, and so regardless of the situation words will always be stressed in the same way.

Let's assume for the sake of argument that the word "amā" is the Atlantian word for "swimmer." Regardless of the sentence it's in or the context, stress is always put on the last syllable. Likewise, "ahs" is the Atlantian verb "to see."

So if we put this in action, with "-'r" being in the accusative (direct object) modifier for the case for "swimmer," the verb "-'rīk" being the past tense modifier and "ve" being the pronoun "I," a simple sentence would consist of:

"Amā'r ve ahs'rīk." ("The swimmer I saw" --> I saw the swimmer).

This kind of sentence wouldn't come up in actual play, unless we had a full vocabulary, which I don't think any of us have time or the desire to do. Most often when speaking in Atlantian I think I'd just use brackets to indicate that I'm speaking in a different language.

The reason why I'm bringing this up is because I was thinking that my character might ask for one of the visitors to teach him English (and for him to teach them Atlantian), so I thought it would be better to run it by you before my character went on and on about cases, tones and inflections.

Vostroya

Interesting I like it. Yeah it would probably be best just to indicate in the post that you are speaking in the Atlantian tongue.
