I'm asking on behalf of a friend. My friends likes these movies and, currently, tries to identify a movie he has seen in his childhood.

He doesn't remember the title of the movie, but he remembers some details. It was about a group of fighters who were fighting an evil kung fu master. The evil guy had a henchman who was very tall and who was nearly unkillable. That tall guy managed, among other things, to bite through a chain he was handed on - also, he managed to bite off a tip of sword he was attacked with.

One of the good guys in the movie was a young woman who was a daughter of the main bad guy. This young woman, if my friend recalls correctly, died in the end.

Does anyone here know what movie could that be?

Doesn't ring any bells, but could be one of the old Shaw Brothers titles. It sounds like a 70s/80s era one. The only stuff I'm really familiar with from that time is Jackie Chan's older work.

I loved those old kung fu flicks, the cornier the better, but I'm afraid this does not ring a bell.

The old Hong Kong Jackie Chan stuff and other things that came out around that time are all amazing.
I think that might be one of his early films, thing is i do not know the English title of it just the wonky Hungarian translation

Ha! Turns out, my friend managed to identify the movie in question. It was a 1978 production called 72 Desperate Rebels.

Soooo... as we're talking kung fu movies - anything you guys would recommend?

Plus it has the Chinese version of BRIAN BLESSED who bodychecks horses :D

While not a kung fu movie as such, it still works fantastically as a wuxia story.

Oh, I know Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon :) Awesome movie, BTW. I ended up picking up taekwondo because of it...

Thanks for all the proposals - I'll take a look at them. Aside from CTHD, I've seen Shaolin Soccer, the rest is unknown to me.

Do you happen to know a movie called We're Going To Eat You?

It's a movie my friend introduced me to. It's a horror comedy where kung fu meets cannibals :)

Okay, I've watched the trailer for Mr. Vampire and... I'm not sure what the heck did I watch :) It seems to be a really weird movie...

HairyHeretic

Quite a fun one though :)

If I had to recommend one single movie, it would be Red Cliff. It deserves the title of epic :)

Been on a bit of HK movie binge lately. These suggestions are pretty modern but they all made a good impression on me. Ip Man 1 and 2 were especially great if you haven't seen them yet. They're both based on Bruce Lee's master, Ip Man the first taking place during the Japanese occupation during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The second being about him adapting to Hong Kong although they really aren't that factual.

The two recent Detective Dee movies, Detective Dee: Mystery of the Phantom Flame, and Rise of the Sea Dragon, which are both movies about the famous Judge Dee with the addition of plenty of Kung-fu action.

I'd also recommend Saving General Yang about a general getting kidnapped and his seven sons coming to save him.

Also more for an interesting combination of different genres then a truly great movie I'd recommend giving the Four a try, which combines Wuxia, super powers, and the supernatural.

As a more general recommendation, anything with Donnie Yen in it is usually pretty good and he gives me hope for the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon sequel that's coming out later this month.
