Zealously Jaded

A starting idea.

The names can be changed I just put them in as a starting place. Any ideas, or takers just message me :)

~AT~

It had been 20 years since the wars had ravaged the lands, in the middle region the large farming land was blighted. One such place was in dire trouble, with an unusually cold winter, and a wet summer, by the time harvest came, there was barely enough to pay the workers let alone the farmer’s debts. This was an unsettling time for everyone, but more so for Olivia then for anyone else, not that she was aware of it….just yet.

Olivia awoke as the light crept over her windowsill; the dawn chorus had already started outside. Yawning she opened her eyes looking at the ceiling as she started to come round. “Morning, again.” She whispered to herself as she got up, her bare room had little more then a bed and a wardrobe filled with the 3 outfits she owned.

Running her fingers through her dark red hair softly, she stretched yawning slightly, her thin night gown clinging to her soft supple body. Getting changed into her everyday outfit she fastened her scarf round her hair keeping it from her face as she started her daily chores.

Walking out of her room she slowly walked to the kitchen, lighting the fire in the heath. Fetching some water from the well she placed it over the fire waiting for it to boil. The only person in the house was her father, she had cared from him since her mother died when she was 10, that was 8 years ago. Soon she knew she would leave her father to be with her husband…whoever that would be.

Her mind was drifting off to other places where she could spend the rest of her days doing nothing, instead of cooking and cleaning, and washing the clothes. She wished she could have a better life, but that would never happen to a girl such as her. At least she wasn’t in the poorest households, barely scraping by each winter, the house wasn’t filled with holes and rotten from the inside out.

Frowning the house was quiet, her father must have been up already, walking outside she noted that his horse was gone from the stable. He would always say when he had to leave, even if it was in the middle of the night he would wake up her and make sure she knew; this worried her.

Olivia’s father was a short stocky man, the years of hard labour was written on his face, burnt and cracked from the sun, and the scars on his body from the war. He walked into Lord Alexander’s keep calmly, he had served his father securing the land and saving his life on one occasion which was why he was given the farm and land providing he paid his rent for the year at harvest. That was the reason for his visit; he had grave news and hoped that the new lord was a merciful as his father was.

The door seemed to opened by itself as he walked slowly inside, he was caught by a servant and asked to wait while he was announced. Standing in the entrance there was a large staircase sweeping from one side, it was a far grander place then he ever imagined, it was more like a fortified palace then a house. The beauty simply took his breath away. The servant arrived back and asked him to follow him; dread welled up inside him as he walked towards his Lord.
