Yeah, the ships bicycle would be fun, to be had by anyone at any time for no reason, and probably kept naked. Would just help cook and sew and mend most of the time she wasn't on her back. Could have once been a governors daughter and is too hot to sell on... also still very posh and upper class but secretly loves the endless sex and spankings.

Can you see that character development is my weak point? Huh, all I seem to enjoy writing these days is porn, the quality of my work has nose-dived significantly since I joined Elliquiy!

YES!

Woohoo, I half step away from Elliquiy for two days and this kind of beautiful things happen. Welcome aboard Ophelia, Amelia and olive! And Haibane, I couldn't ask for a better ship's hobby horse. Such a pity the velocipede hasn't been invented just yet, that has an even nicer ring to it. ;)

Kckolbe, I'm thinking Bean Bert would have been 27 and fresh out of the navy when he signed on as a whaler, but the actual mutiny would have occurred after a year or so hunting with little success in the Arctic. They were about to head back, with the guarantee of a measly share of a small catch for their year's work, and decided to try their fortune in a different kind of shipping.

So he'd be a traditional carpenter surgeon? I'm thinking about how that would work as a player character. Basically, while the captain and much of the rest of the crew would be boarding a prize, he'd be below decks on the Courtesan amputating limbs and stitching people up, and generally acting as a medic. Besides, if he's been with Captain Griffiths since the original mutiny, he'd be given a more significant post - a de facto second in command of the ship, almost, and certainly an important officer. Maybe a sailing master or quartermaster? We could do with a head gunner too, and that's the kind of job which needs upper body strength not found in the gorgeous ladies who seem to dominate our manifest. ;) A helmsperson wouldn't be amiss either

A few general points: we now definitely have enough players. Let's not take on any more for now, at least until we've got used to working with the game's hugeness. For that same reason, Ophelia, can you think of a different role for your character other than a cook? Dashenka called first dibs, and there's also the fact that a sailor freshly reduced to hobbling about on a peg leg would sooner be working in the galley than an able bodied one, so Dashenka's cook would have a few hook-handed, eyepatched and peg legged assistants chopping onions for her, peeling potatoes and what not. They'd generally be given good compensation for losing their limbs (and surviving!), so they'd be put to whatever use they could to make them at least worth some of the money.

But I digress. My main concern is making sure everyone can get involved and has something to do, and with the size of the ship's crew at about 100 we can NPC anyone we need. Let's get an OOC and character thread up soon, and lock this thread after that. Dashenka, you can do that if you like, otherwise I'll do the honours. I guess I'll be co-GMing just a little. ;)

And yeah, Haibane, I agree about the skewed gender ratio. I had no idea girls liked playing pirates even more than  boys! Let's see if we can get another male player or two from somewhere. I'm also fine with folks playing multiple characters so long as at least one is male, regardless of the player's gender. Feel free to NPC around miscellaneous male sailors, guys!

#51
Name: Liset Géroux
Age: 23 years old
Role on the ship: Unwitting Captive
History: She was born outside of Paris to a wealthy family. Her family has moved to Pondichéry, a French trading post/colony in southeast India  recently, to be close to her father's business interests there. She is supposed to have an arranged marriage to Alain Voclain but she detests him. She decides one night to run away, taking a little gold with her to secure passage on a ship to take her from Pondichéry to the Cape. Unfortunately, her father is well known in the shipping industry so no legitimate captain will take her, even for the gold she carries.

Finally, she meets and convinces Captain Griffiths to allow her passage on his ship for a fee of either gold or working off her passage. Of course the nature of traded services is glossed over, initially. She'll assume it involves benign chores such as cooking and cleaning (of which she has no experience) taken in trade when the fee turns out to be a bit too steep in gold. Nevertheless, she is willing to do whatever she must to have passage to the Cape. She'd like to disembark  there and make her way to Europe.

Appearance: She is very pale, tall, about 5'8” long dark red hair, blue eyes, medium pale breasts with small pink nipples, lush red lips, straight nose, nice bottom and long legs. She has her mother's eyes, the other features are from her father: the straight classical nose, her porcelain skin, and most obviously, her deep red tresses. Somewhat of anomaly in France, her gorgeous red hair most likely was passed down from Scottish ancestors in her family lineage. For a short period of time, many centuries earlier, her distant relatives had some land holdings in Scotland.

Personality: She's a bit independent, she's been well educated for a girl in her society. She feels that people should marry for love, not for connections. She is a bit spoiled and is not used to being told no. But the marriage was arranged, regardless, and her family drew the line on her independence, at that point.

Sure, pirate ships are inherently filthy and need plenty of hands to keep them shipshape if not spic and span!

I'm sending a PM to a friend who may be interested. I'll have him post a character sheet here today if the thread is still open at that point, if he is interested.

Nice to be joining and nice to meet all of you. *smiles*

Ramster, some excellent points, and damn this game has gotten sexy.

So he's been pirating for over a decade.  That is a bit longer than I was thinking.  I was planning on being a simple crewmember, part of boarding parties as well, just playing makeshift doctor after the fact (provided my character is healthy enough to do so).  Admittedly, we weren't as female laden when I thought of the concept, so playing a slightly more physical type does have merit.  I plan on playing him as a bit touched in the head, which would keep him from being *too* important (since we have a couple of officer types already), but I would consider head gunner.

Rather than closing this thread completely, I'm going to close it for female characters. If any of you readers wants to play a male pirate character please feel free. Or if any of you current players want to make another male character, be my guest. Tonight or tomorrow I'll get an OOC and Character thread up to see who's still onboard and who is not.

Name: Conor Kelly
Age: 30
Role on the Ship: Gunner, Makeshift Surgeon
Background:  Though Irish, he grew up in England, or at least ships based out of England, and worked as a seaman on a couple of merchant craft before he encountered his first whaling ship.  Signed on as harpooner on the whaling ship shortly before the mutiny.  Conor has always had a bit of an adventurous streak in him, and it does not appear to have ended.  He started sailing when he passed by a ship that was hiring, and has hired on the first ship he's encountered since.  When Bert led a mutiny against the whaling captain, Conor joined in largely on a whim, having no real attachment to either party.  When Bert needed a gunner Conor was the first to throw in, canons being far more fun than harpoons.  When the ship's surgeon died in a brothel on port, Conor was the one who grabbed his tools and called dibs on the job.  He is oddly good-natured, prone to occasional moments of hostility, but they rarely last more than an instant.

I have been lead to believe you need more crew members for a voyage of plundering, adventuring and porking?  >:)

I just glanced at what roles have been filled, might look into navigator/helmsmen or a Blacksmith/shipwright.

kckolbe

Lots of familiar faces in this game.  I think we have a shipwright, though might be mistaken.

Plot? That might be a problem.  I'm only here for a taste of Haibane (okay, others too).  I do have a question about the mutiny, though. Has a full mutiny broken out already, or is it still in the "looking for support/breaking into factions" stage?

The mutiny hasn't broken out yet, and is up to the crew to brew and simmer as we go along as morale gets worse for all sorts of reasons which will crop up.

Haha thanks Ame :P I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to that in game.

If in need of another male character, I could get on board with this idea.

I was thinking a Kessian Mercenary who has taken up a life of pirating. During the time period, the British Army employed a lot of German Soldiers from Hesse-Kessel who were often used on board their ships (and saw a good number fight vs the Americans in the Revolutionary War). So I am thinking one of them has gone rogue and prefers a life of debauchery and gold compared to the 'by the book' military life on board a British Man'o'War.

Hello :)

Is there room for one more male character?
