The Colony:

A hundred and fifty years in the future, Earth is dying. The disparate nations of earth have joined together into a single unified government in their desperate need to find a way to survive. As a result, the Unified Council of Earth was formed, and pooling their resources, began searching for a way to save the world, or at least escape it. Five planets were found in the far reaches of space, two in the same solar system, the other three spread out. So a fleet of colony ships were commissioned and sent off to the few habitable worlds we have discovered. Three ships were sent to each site, with the goal being to build three colonies on each planet that supported each other. If the colonies were a success after a decade, their job is the send back word so the rest of earth can be sent out to the successful colony sites.

You are prominent figures in one of these colony ships. Your colony ship has arrived at the planet, and geographic surveys and tectonic readings have been gathered, and three colonization sites have been selected. Your colony will be on the shoreline of the smallest of three continents on this planet located on the equator. The vegetation is thick and similar to the rain-forests of home, though the vegetation is obvious alien, your scientists assume that similar to on earth that the jungle should be an excellent source for natural food sources as well as fertile soil. The other colony sites have their own terrain to contend with, all unique and intended to see which areas of this planet can easily support life.

Your colony will start with just two thousand, with the other ten thousand colonists staying on the colony ship until the initial survey crews have finished their recon and the drones have clear cut enough space to begin construction of the larger city proper.

Your task? To explore this new untamed wilderness, find what food sources exist, what animals can be domesticated, and what natural hazards exist? Will a sentient life form be discovered that probes never noticed? Soldiers and scientists, builders and doctors, all are needed to make the colony a success.

-Playstyle: I am planning this to be a freeform RP, with a directed sandbox style if there is interest in it. Players would be able to do whatever they want with the colony, and I would be directing events on the planet that are in response to your decisions, or just the natural course of events.

-Tech: Obviously futuristic, not planning lasers and pew pew, but advanced gunnery for certain. Think Star Craft or Starship Troopers, more advanced guns and explosives, sensor arrays, vehicles, things like that. I would not want things like Mech, but perhaps an exo-suit meant to enhance a soldiers strength or speed, hover jets, boats and submarines if someone wanted to think about making an underwater outpost? Lots of potential for scientists to take a basic concept and through RP advance that tech with their own breakthrough. For drones, think automated robotics that can perform basic functions, clearcutting forest, building under direction of human foreman, all the dirty stuff. Advanced AI is still a rarity and was not seen as a worthwhile investment for colony efforts except for the main computer system which will be installed at the colony HQ.

-Characters: Anything that could be sent to create a new life for mankind could be here. Soldiers, explorers, pilots, engineers, scientists, doctors, farmers, ranchers who brought a small stock of livestock from home or who intend to find native animals to start herding, all sorts of potential.

The Krelnar
The native species of the new planet, the Krelnar are a species of sentient, humanoid botanicals. In other words, they are walking, talking plants. Their culture is tribal, and while they lack the technology of the aliens landing on their homeworld, they have their own special talents. They can speak to the plants and wildlife of their world, and in many cases are able to control it's growth and behavior. Roots of ancient trees will lift up to wrap around their enemies, vines will sprout thorns to lash out, predator beasts will be tamed and serve their needs.

Their culture is very spiritual, with their religion being tied to the planet and the World Spirit. The Chieftan is an inherited title belonging to the strongest family of the tribe. The title of Shaman, that falls to the member of the tribe who the prior Shaman felt was worthy of taking on their role. Shaman of the Krelnar live in perfect harmony with the planet, often living apart from the tribe they serve in order to better hear the words of the World Spirit. They are masters of the mystic powers of the Krelnar that permit them to control the wildlife around them. The blessings of the Shaman is needed for any two Krelnar to Bud, or produce offspring. Women and men have equal standing in their culture.

So this is just an Idea I had, as I have a bit of an urge to GM something. This would obviously be LGBT friendly. If there is interest in this I will produce more information and make a character sheet. If there are any questions or interest please let me know. :D

Innocence

Sounds interesting, I would totally be up to play a scientist or doctor character =]

Ontan

I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this.

Quick question, though: what about the other two colonies? Would they be under NPC control, or could they open up as allied / rival colonies as the story progressed? I’m just curious, of course – there’s no wrong answer either way.

Lustful Bride

*Tentative interest*

Hmmm, I'm kind of interested in playing something like a reporter, perhaps trying to keep up Morale for the colonists, or maybe a a field researcher.

MaiMizzu

I'm tenatively giving thought to this whole thing. It does look interesting. I think I'd be interested in playing someone in a science or medical way. Like a geologist or biologist or something.

or..

would I perhaps be able to play one of the native sentient species?
The definition of a hero, at least in my mind, is someone who can protect what is right. To change and stop the wrong. To fight against the forces that seek to destroy you. And, at the very least ... live life well, and enjoy it with those you love.

Paladin101

Wow, got some interest! With this many showing interest I'll get a character sheet made up and  thrown in here in a little bit. :D

Innocense: Always a need for a good doctor or scientist.

Ontan: The other two colonies at first would be left as NPC/plot vehicles in the beginning. Now the storyline is being left up to the players, so it is completely possible in the future people could go visit them for trade, or if the players go this way, for war. Both other colonies will also be on the coastline, so if a player were to decide to be a ship captain, or a pilot, they could play the role of resource trader between the colonies and be a vehicle for news to travel between the two. But in general, I am leaving the other two colonies as an open plot resource for myself in the future.

Lustful Bride: I had never thought of a reporter, that could make for a real interesting role in this new colony. I love the idea if your interest evolves from being tentative. :)

MaiMizzu: Any sort of scientist could easily find a role here. As for the natives, I would say that it is possible, but only if we had a bit more humans first. At present there isn't even a human character who would have gone out and found them as we have scientist and reporters proposed thus far, but no one to escort them or clear the way. Also, my intentions with the natives is that they are going to be a bit different. They are going to be a botanical race, humanoid shaped but they are living, sentient plants. At least for one race. If you have a real interest in being an alien native and think you have a cool concept for the race feel free to shoot me a PM, and I'll certainly be willing to talk about it and see if it will fit in my concept for this planet.

If you would be anxious about having one of the natives be this early in the rp, i completely understand! My only thought was.. well they live here, they are essentially one with the world.. and then here come these aliens invading! They would in the least be curious, or be in the area watching them. Does that make sense? Eventually, yes they would most likely pick a representative and approach the aliens... because.. .well they are all noisy and tromping on everything! My intention wasn't to have like my native gal up in the faces of the humans, but definately watching them. As for being plant based... i LOVE the idea. I've always had an affinity for that kind of being. Zhaan and all..

But, if you would be more comfortable in me making a scientist.. perhaps someone who would specialize in going out into the forests and trying to figure things out. As I said, perhaps a xeno biologist.

Thanks, now I just need to think on exactly what I would do with her, have her roaming around the outside o the colony to document things, thinking she will be remembered for years to come as the first to see various things, interviewing the other characters cause well what else is there to do?  :P

Joining with the militia to be like "Hey im helping!"

Paladin101

Updated first post with character sheet, and cleaned up the earth history a little bit with explaining how earth became unified under one government.

MaiMizzu: I like the idea of a native. I have no problem with there being a native character, I would just want to make sure there are enough humans first. If I get at least 4-5 humans, I will have no problem with a native character, I just want to make sure human players outnumber the natives, because the colony is the focus of the RP, I don't want the perspective to switch to focusing on the natives responding to it. I love the idea of the added element of player natives going in and interacting with the colonists, but at first, they would definitely just be watching, observing, and trying not to be discovered. My intentions for this botanical race is that they are very secretive, and at one with the planet. So as the clear cutting starts, they begin to become angered with this alien race that has started to kill their friends and pets.

Lustful Bride: She could go out with exploration teams to document the wildlife. Interview colony leaders to find out what is happening in the big picture, talk to characters for interest pieces. She could be doing a documentary to "make it big!" when the rest of earth comes to settle here and she has a documentary show ready to be sent back to show them what it was like taming the savage frontier. Lots of options. :D

YES!

I just hope she doesn't end up like a certain other reporter on an alien world. (Yay I found it in English)

Well there is lots of things that could happen to you out in the wilds, whether it be angry wildlife, or for those of more exotic tastes there is always potential for some 'close encounters' out there. Alot of that kind of stuff I'll leave up to the individual players for what sort of encounters they want to have. But the options are definitely quite broad. I don't plan to have anything chomp a reporter in half though. :P

It coudlbe she accidentally recorded a visual of the intelligent natives on her camera without knowing it, causing the defense team of the colony to realize they have been watched all along.

Paladin101

Definitely a plot point that could come up as the game gets going.

I shouldn't be taking new games right now.

... but this is such an awesome idea.

Updated the first post with information on the native race.

Paladin101

Made a character sheet for the military commander of the Colony, kept it a bit light because I don't want to have my NPC's as a real driving force, rather just use them to place nudges.

Name: General William Hawkins
Player: Paladin101
Concept: Commander of the Expeditionary Force here to explore  the planet, and interim Governor of the Colony.
Sex: Male
Age: 34
Orientation: Straight
On’s: Pretty face, flattery, domination games, https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=194275.0
Off’s:-
Race: Caucasian, from the southern states of America.

Appearance:
Hair: Black beginning to go grey
Eyes: Blue
Height: 6’2”
Weight:180

Description:
A man who always stands upright with proper military posture, General Hawkins is the poster boy for what military officers should strive to look like. Perfectly pressed uniform, boots shined, hair cut to precisely uniform length. His blue eyes are piercing and take note of everything.

One Unique Thing: Whether it is a piece of your past, a trinket you carry, a nervous twitch or ocd ritual, something about you that sets you apart from everyone else.

Personality:
A serious man with a serious job, the General nonetheless enjoys blowing off steam, though he always makes certain that he only relaxes behind closed doors where others won’t see it. He is loyal and honest, but also ambitious.

Talents: Politics, military tactics, assault rifle marksmanship.

History:
General Hawkins is one of the youngest generals in history, rising through the ranks due to both political acumen and tactical genius. He was chosen to head this colony due to his talent for working with civilian agents as well as military personnel.
He led several campaigns against rebellious moon colonies back in the earth solar system, each campaign a great success, and always with minimum loss of life.

Equipment:

IrishWolf

I'll throw my hat into the ring.

I'm thinking a character you straddles the line between civilian and soldier, formerly served, muster out and started teaching wilderness survival/working as a hunting guide. He got hired for this colony effort, to teach those that needed, survival skills and to work as a kind of scout, making maps of the surrounding area, keep predators away from the colony, that kinda thing.

That kind of character could definitely work! Looking forward to seeing the sheet! :D

Behemoth

This concept interests me too.

I'd like to play a scout/survivalist with an interest in making peacful contact with the Krelnar (assuming this hasn't already happened?) and in exploring this new world. He was born on an isolated colony and started out in the civilian space surveying corps before being recruited into the military. He could be a low-ranking commissioned officer, or an N.C.O such as a sergeant. I'm less interested in him being a leader or a 'bad-ass soldier' and more into the idea of the excitement and danger of exploring the planet. He'd be a true survivor, smart, resourceful and tough both mentally and physically. I imagined him as the kind of guy you could drop in the middle of a jungle with only a toothbrush and a piece of string and two days later he'd turn up on your back doorstep asking what's for dinner! ;-)

One plot that might be interesting to pursue is understanding the Krelnar better and eventually forging some kind of alliance or at least a lasting peace between the colonist and the natives.

Paladin101, if you think my character concept would be suitable I'll start working on a character profile.

Love the idea. One thing though, at present, the colonists have no idea the Krelnar exist. If I get enough people, the RP is starting at quite literally at the beginning.  The opening scenes will be the clear cutting of trees to make room for the construction of the first buildings.

BennyQ

I'll definitely be interested in this idea. Perhaps as a human in some military form, such as an Intelligence Agency, regular military, or a private contractor. If the latter, he'll take orders from the Military Commander of the colony but operate in some independent form. Maybe even a double-role, such as some physical labor or engineer task alongside his military duties, as the natives have yet to be discovered?
