Like... what kind of questions should be on here?
I have a couple, but I can drop things in here as I think of them...

1. What's the point of the sample roleplay? Isn't the approval process automatic?
2. Where can I find out more about the categories in the right column (the roleplays)? What are the differences between them?

As for the other things:
What the purpose of the Ons/Offs are
Where people can "advertise" for roleplays, or find them from others
Forums / boards where you can really get to know other members better

Ok so it should start out something like this,

So, you joined Elliquiy. Its a big place, and it can be intimidating. We have many people we call Mentors who can help you out. On top of Mentors we have friendly members, we have Sirens and we have Divinity that are more then happy to answer questions. However, we felt that it might be nice to have a spot where most of the frequently asked questions can be answered.

The first thing to do in Elliquiy is to read the rules, which are found on our home page. After that, then you go and post an introduction thread after reading what we want in an intro here

Posting your intro thread here will be your first step into becoming a part of our community.

After your introduction thread is posted members will come, they will banter and chat, they wil get to know you as well as you will get to know them. Mentors will come as well, taking your sample plot and character to do a sample RP.

Your sample RP will be apart of the approval process not to judge if your writing is perfect, but more if you understand the basic concepts, and take constructive criticism well. Mentors are not all perfect writers, and we do not expect perfection.

Sherona

This of course is a very rough draft, and incomplete. just wanted to make sure I am on the right track and to get opinions.

Caeli I only did part of your suggestions for the moment, working on your others :D

Sherona

To give another option, Listing rather then in story form (I guess thats what you would call it)

Q. What are some important links I should read first?

Is the FAQ for after approval?  Or is the application process included?  It's outlined on the front page that newcomers see, does it need to be in the FAQ?
~*~ Sexual Orientation: bi ~*~ BDSM Orientation: switch ~*~ Ons and Offs ~*~ Active Stories ~*~

Sherona

FAQ will be listed on the Home page, so all can see even unregistered people :)

NightBird

My thoughts had been for it to be after approval so it could also include detailed definitions of what content belongs in which roleplay category (once that's finally solidified). I'm not so sure about having it open to public view--not against it per se, either, just not certain it's the right thing to do. There'll be the mouseover text, but I think something in more detail would be helpful somewhere, so if not in a public FAQ then somewhere else.

Helpful information there could also what makes for good ONs and OFFs, a reiteration of how to get help (emphasizing the Help!) forum, and a description about what sort of things you can find in the various discussion forums.

Maybe something about the new Wiki when it's up and running, too.

Sherona

Would it be too clunky to have a "Before approval" FAQ and "After Approval"?

NightBird

Perhaps if the Before Approval FAQ just listed information on the publicly accessible forums, and the After Approval FAQ just listed information on the members-only forums?

Sherona

Might be the best way, but will have to get Veks' approval.

I was going to add the On's/Off's and the board descriptions, but didn't think of the fact that that might go beyond PG-13.

NightBird

The descriptions themselves won't technically go beyond PG-13, but it all depends on how much of even descriptive language about that we want in publicly searchable pages. I'm not ashamed of what we do here, but I'm also not keen to drawing the wrong kind of attention by having something in public listing what we do allow. Right now, we say what we don't allow, which is fine, but I'm a little leery of having clear definitions of what we do allow where anybody can see them and get all offended by their--and our--existence.

It may be a bit over the top on the paranoia scale, but we're in a world that's increasingly tense and increasingly polarized along certain religiously-driven lines. Why ask for trouble when we can avoid it by keeping some of these things to members only?

Sherona

That is true..I can already see circular of email petitions about us..lol its all basically up to veks...*pokes the bgi guys*

Moondazed

I agree with NightBird on this one.  Search engines index web pages by the words on them... I'd rather keep the descriptions off the main page.
~*~ Sexual Orientation: bi ~*~ BDSM Orientation: switch ~*~ Ons and Offs ~*~ Active Stories ~*~

NightBird

Do I think it's terribly immediately likely? No. But it's the kind of thing where I'm totally into the ounce of prevention sort of thing.

You know, I can remember when one of those ancient southern senators was totally going off on alt.sex.furry back in the 90s. Helms, I think. They'll sit in tobacco's pocket but rage about porn addiction. *sighs*

Moondazed

I can't see putting explicit wording anywhere that isn't behind membership approval.
~*~ Sexual Orientation: bi ~*~ BDSM Orientation: switch ~*~ Ons and Offs ~*~ Active Stories ~*~

Vekseid

I don't see why we'd have to, and I'd really rather have only one, public FAQ.

Elvi

Surely, if you listed things like the Ons and offs and details of the boards along with the descriptions, as well as placing links, it would behave exactly the same as links do now?
(Says, when you click on them, something along the line of 'sorry you can't access this area until you are a full member' (?) )

It's been fun, but Elvi has now left the building

Vekseid

Elvi

Then there shouldn't be a problem should there?
I've read and re-read the posts here, but can't understand where 'explicit terms' would need to be used....

Vekseid

Explicit terms alone don't make for a rating issue, regardless.

Moondazed

My concern is with the fact that search engines index the words that are visible on the page, so listing the category descriptions in the right hand column will make Elliquiy come up in searches that have nothing to do with roleplaying and everything to do with kink.  If that's OK, then go for it.  Personally, I'd rather it not happen.
~*~ Sexual Orientation: bi ~*~ BDSM Orientation: switch ~*~ Ons and Offs ~*~ Active Stories ~*~

Vekseid

That is simply not something you can avoid. Plus, it's attracted some good members, so I don't see any reason to worry over it.

Moondazed

Oh, it's avoidable... don't put the words on a public page where they're indexed.

But you're the boss.

Yes, and we have these public forums where people talk about it openly... :-p
