Ok guys and gals, I need some help and I need it stat – I’m reaching the end of my tether trying to find new bands to listen to that actually sound good, and I’m getting bored of listening to the same albums by the same artists over and over and over.

So I need some fresh blood on my playlist, and I thought who better to reach out to for some ideas but you guys?

I suppose it would help to explain first a little bit about the music I am looking for – basically I enjoy heavy guitar work with some speed to it (nothing slow and plodding thank you – needs some energy in it, but nothing so over the top that it sounds like the result of two trucks hitting eachother head on at over 100mph…), good energetic vocals with some thought behind them – screaming is allowed, but it can’t be over the top (if anyone suggests Cradle of Filth to me I will NEVER speak to them again – that is a promise), and some good drum work behind it all.

A sample of bands that I enjoy (in no particular order) would be – Stonesour, Disturbed, Saliva, Hblockx, Rammstein. Linkin Park, Velvet Revolver, Guns N Roses, Faith No More, Aerosmith, Orgy, Ozzy Ozbourne (but was never a really big fan of his stuff with Black Sabbath), Lost Prophets, and Green Day.

There are a LOT more than that, but I really can’t think of every single one right now (which admittedly is probably a bit stupid when I’m asking for something new – I’m betting that the first 5 bands that are suggested I will already some stuff of…)

Help me Obi Wan, you’re my only hope!

Bugger......pointless asking me.....you have most of our 'heavy' list.....can only think of suggesting some of the older bands like the Banshees, Stranglers, Sisters of Mercy, that sort of thing.

You could of course try Cradle of Filth?

It's been fun, but Elvi has now left the building

HairyHeretic

If you like Rammstein, you could try Die Krupps, or maybe KMFDM. How do you feel about classic metal .. AC/DC , Metallica, Iron Maiden, that sort of stuff?

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll give those two bands you mentioned a try when I get outta this neon lighted hell hole later today!

As for AC/DC, Metallica and Iron Maiden - I like 'em, although I find a lot of Maidens stuff plods on a little too much for my liking (dependant on my mood), and after hearing Metallica's S&M album I find it hard to listen to the 'vanilla' versions of their tracks (other than Enter Sandman - that just RAWKS!)

Particular favourite tracks of mine would be Die Krupps - Iron Man, and for KMFDM , Juke Joint Jezebel and Anarchy.

I didn't see System of a Down listed on your 'heard it' list.  If you haven't listened to their music, then I'm suspecting that you'd really, really dig it.  It took me about half an hour of listening skeptically to get a feel for just how talented those guys are.

TonyWoods

Thanks for the track suggestions hairyheretic - much appreciated!

Caustic - I've listened to one or two of their tracks before and greatly enjoyed them, but for some strange reason have never got round to buying and listening to a full album from them. Looks like I'm off down the shops at lunch time - thanks!

Cool... thing is, you get a lot of variation from albumn to albumn.  I think that they're improving by each record, so I recommend the laters... good luck.

Try Lacuna Coil, it's an italian goth rock band with a female doing most of the leads. The music rocks though. HIM is good on occasions, again they are a gothic band who specialize in love songs but not all of them are sappy. My favorite is Wicked Game the darn thing turns me on.  :-\

Hmm, 30 Seconds to Mars has some good ones and so does Wolfmother. All the other bands I like you've listed so I'm at a loss for the moment.

TonyWoods

Ah Lacuna Coil - I watched a video of theirs on a music channel a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it (the very sexy female singer admittedly had a lot to do with that...), but I can't for the life of me remember which song it was. I've listened to one or two of their other tracks since and wasn't as impressed, but I think I'll add them to my list!

Try the Comalies albulm from Lacuna Coil, it has their best songs I think. I enjoyed them all. Their new albulm is ok, Enjoy the Silence is their better one on there. And yeah she is sexy.  :P

TonyWoods

Thank you - I shall take that advice and add it to my 'to listen to' list. Should keep me out of trouble for a few hours tonight with all the suggestions I've had so far!

Question is - who do you think is sexier. The female singer from Lacuna Coil, or Amy Lee from Evanescence?

Personally I'd have the two of them - but I'm a greedy bastard!

Both are pretty but I'd rather have Kristina(that's the lead singer's name), simply because Amy Lee's songs are so brutally depressing sometimes. Being depressed by music is such a mood kill, it's why I hate christmas music on the radio!

TonyWoods

*laughs* leave it to a woman to sum up which she'd rather have based on the lyrics of their songs... Most men would have just asked 'which has the biggest and firmest tits?'  ;)

As for depressing music - I'm right with you there, that is one of the reasons I can't stand to listen to Radiohead!

Well women are more picky then men, well most men. So leave it to a man to sum up who he'd rather be with by the size of the woman's breasts.  :P

TonyWoods

*grins* Oh no - there would be more to it on my part than just the woman's breast size I can assure you of that. After all, a woman could have the most perfect breasts ever, but that would be totally pointless if she was so much of a prude that she stuck to the missionary position with the lights off!

So you'd get that far just to see if she's right or not. Shame on you, you do need to be leashed up.  ;)

TonyWoods

Well if you are offering, I'm game my dear ;)

Ah the joys of Elliquiy - start by asking for music, and end up getting offers of bondage *grins*

Hey I was simply stating a comment to restrain you eager perversions, offers come after I've gotten my feet wet more. -Still the forum's virgin-  :)

TonyWoods

Ah well in that case, I'll just have to leash you up instead until I've warped you enough to return the favour  ;D

I think this is the most I've posted outside of the game threads. Wow!

And you'd have to catch me to leash me, and I don't think you can. Especially if Elvi gets you first, the shout box is an entertaining read.

TonyWoods

Oh I'm a very good hunter - I'm sure I'd have little trouble catching you.

We'd just have to watch out for Elvi wanted to catch us both *chuckles*

Elvi's cool, I like her. So what makes you think we wouldn't team up against you? :)

By the way, Powerman 5000 is another good hard band to listen to. I know others just can't think of any at the moment.

Elvi

It's been fun, but Elvi has now left the building

TonyWoods

Umm, because you both secretly fear me and my sex ninja skillz?

Or something...

Ah yes - Powerman 5000 are very good. Love the song they used as the entrance theme for the Dudley Boyz when they were in the WWE (Bombshell I think it was called)
