"all I ask is that you stay with me nothing else is necessary really"

[JaySwitch]

"Stay with you?"  He asks confused.  "Sure, I mean, I'd like that, but... what could is having me stay with you?  Do you just need company?"  He looks back to the cat and asks, "Would she let me stay?" before laughing a bit.

[Snapespersephone]

"yes I need companionship is all. No one stays with me."
the cat coughs, "they don't stay long cause they are mortal and have mortal lives M'lady."

[JaySwitch]

Richard hears what Maxie says and looks back to Esmeralda, “What does she mean?  Are you immortal?  Can you die?”

"I may be immortal and unable to die, but I can give immortality to the right person."
"yea but she has yet to do it. they age and ask to leave and she allows it."
"Quiet Maxie you going to make him run like the last one."
"but i didn't tell him that you are not in your true form I kept your wings a secret just like you told me too."

[JaySwitch]

“Immortal?!” he whispers while his mind tries to comprehend what she’s saying.  He listens to their conversation as if he’s not there and stares openly at the young woman he’s holding close in his warmth.  “Ok, ok you two, I’m here as well, what are you talking about?  Wings?!  That’s taking strange to a whole new level?  If you want me to stay, I think I should hear just what I’m in for?”

"your mortal king in his ignorance has labeled the miricales I can do as witchcraft. I am not a mortal witch Richard I am what would be considered by some a deity. I came to your realm to help with my healing arts and used my illusionary skills to hide my true identity but i guess you deserve to see the truth."
She closes her eyes and her form wavers and turns into this:

He had been to battle many times and faced death itself eye to eye and didn't flinch, but this was different.  This was magic!  He trembled slightly and threatened to drop her from his arms as she changed.  Something deep inside him told him not to drop her, so he held on and fought against his first instinct to pull away.  When she had changed his eyes were wide.  Even after going through the portal and talking to a cat, this was the first time he had seen her use her magic.  It was amazing, scary, and set his imagination on fire!  "WOAH!"  After his exclamation he was speechless with wide eyes.  Her dark wings were as beautiful as her sweet face.  Her natural face had more of an innocent and vulnerable quality, but for as old as she seemed from her speech, she must be anything but innocent he thought.  With his hands under her he couldn't help but feel her wings against his arm and hand that supported her back.  He let himself concentrate on how the strange body part felt against his skin.

She climbs out of his arms and stands on her own, "this is when my companions tend to run." she says sadly, "I will understand if you wish to as well. I shall not hold it against you and will help you on your way. I want a companion who will stay with me of there own choice not a debt owed to me."
the cat snorts and starts to saunter away, "you might as well ask for world peace an for your family to except there strange dark winged daughter into the fold. No it is best that we live our lives here M'lady, and you give up you your fruitless hopes and dreams."
She nods sadly and looks out over the land waiting for his response.

[JaySwitch]

He watches Esmeralda as she gets up and he can’t help but stare at her wings.  When she tells him he can leave at any time he seriously thinks about it, yet he responds, “If it’s all the same to you, I’d rather stay.  No one has ever cared enough about me to do what you did.  Also, I’ve really got no where else to go.”  He says with a chuckle and stands up.  “I’m now an enemy combatant behind enemy lines.  I’d rather stay here if you don’t mind?” he asks bashfully.  Then, with a sudden thought and chuckle, “And someone’s got to teach Maxie here a lesson in male relations.”

"yes that is true and I probly should allow her to be in her true form as well. Even if she is just a petulant child most of the time."
Maxie sniffs, "you could change me back and you didn't already? why not?"
"well you are a brat, you try my patients, and I thought you could learn something from this. Alas I think it will never happen and you would be better off in your true form and leaving me as well."
Maxie looks shocked, "I would have to leave you then?"
she just nods and smiles up at her new companion, "yes Maxie but I have a companion now...well until he is ready to leave. As you said i will never find love and thus never be able to bestow eternity on my mate."

[JaySwitch]

Richard was just as shocked at Esmeralda’s statement that Maxie should leave as much as Maxie was.  Suddenly his empathy changed towards Maxie.  He had to speak up.  “I…I didn’t mean that she had to leave.  I mean, if she’s your friend, I don’t want to cause you to lose a friend.  I know only too well how difficult that can be.”  He looks at Maxie, “I can’t say I like you right now, but I don’t want to be the reason you lose your place.”  He turns back to Esmeralda.  “Why are you so sure I’d leave?  Life must have been very hard on you to be without friends or lovers for so long?”  His stomach then growled and he gave an uncomfortable face.  “Sorry, I haven’t eaten since breakfast.  What do you all eat?”

Blushes "Oh dear me Maxie did you grab the bag?"
"Yes I grabbed the bag before we jumped, and don't worry Richard she wouldn't actually make me leave she loves me. She just can't find love."
the cat throws a bag at your feet that spills food when it lands. "yes it is magic Richard. Just think of what you want and reach in and it will be there. very useful on long trips."
