28/January/2008 - Black Industries Announcement
Black Industries regret to announce that Dark Heresy: Disciples of the Dark Gods out in September will be the final product to be released from Black Industries.

Kevin Rountree General Manager of BL Publishing said ‘As a result of the continued and impressive success of our core novels business, which we have built around 40K and Warhammer, we have decided to focus all of our efforts on growing this part of our business. Black Industries has seen fantastic success, most recently with Talisman and Dark Heresy. This change does not take away from that achievement rather it allows BL Publishing to focus on producing the best novels we can. This is a purely commercial decision and will enable us to carry on the huge growth that we have recently been experiencing with our novels’

For the time being Black Industries will continue to post articles in support of the products on their official website, which is a fantastic resource for scenarios and gaming tools for GM’s and players alike.

We're going to get

Purge the Unclean
The Inquisitor's Handbook
Disciples of the Dark Gods

and thats it.

The first print run sells out in a week, the LE version in 6 minutes, and someone thought it was a good decision to kill the line? WTF?

The explanation is quite simple: It was successful and making money, and that is something Games Workshop can't tolerate.

There has been a huge shitstorm over it on 4chan's /tg/. The worst part is that it's apparently so that more shitty CS "Multilaser" Goto novels can be churned out. The /tg/ declaration is to execute any who buy those heretical writings. Some want to DDoS the online store, hitting GW's profits until they get the clue. That won't work.

My suggestion? We seriously just make our own 40K game system. Note: you will actually need a separate game for each "style", because Imperial Guardsmen and Space Marines cannot play the same game. A single Space Marine can kill an army of Guardsmen on his own. We don't want to allow a particularly experienced Cadian ripping and tearing Greater Daemons in half.

In other news, I recently discovered specialist-games. Games Workshop are releasing their older products for legal free download, including Necromunda and Inquisitor! I'd just love to organise a Necromunda game with bonus roleplaying, that'd be very cool.

The rules and board tiles for Space Hulk are also available to download off the US website as well. Actually, from further reading, it seems to be the whole of the Black Industries, so thats Dark Heresy, WFRPG v2 and Talisman all affected.

The thoughts I've seen voiced on the matter are that GWs financials haven't been doing good, and with a probable recession coming from the US, they're shutting down the less profitable (or more expensive to run) bits of the company.

Specialist Games have had those downloads up for ages.

Heaven forbid people get something that combines the best elements of strategy gaming and novels into one. *sigh*

Dak Eldar, Kong? Great idea, I'm interested when you're done:)

kongming

Well, it's less about "We kidnap slaves, then spend half the session in one-up-manship as we describe how we torture them" and more about "We're space pirates. We raid Space Hulks and military bases, leaping through the Webway, making off with rare archeotech and otherwise doing piratey stuff. In space."

But the option of capturing and torturing slaves is always there, of course.

It was the 3rd book I was most looking forwards to, for playing a Space Marine. Then I'd just combine it with the Tome of Corruption to play a Chaos Space Marine instead :)

You're making assumptions about me now, Kongming!

I honestly had piracy and swashbuckling in mind! Not much torture, just a little. But loot first!

ZK

You don't know how the future shall be, but oh well. It's good for what it's worth. And I had to snatch it up, I'm a big fan of WH40K.

I also have a copy of that rare and uber expensive CthulhuTECH.

hairyheretic: You even admit it publicly? Death to the traitor! Emperor, guide my path!

For Space Marines, Chaos, Sisters of Battle and anything else that's powerful and high-end, one can easily make a d20 thing - they start at a moderately high level and go up from there. Whereas for lower powered stuff, you'd look at Inquisitor, Dark Heresy or similar.

Celestial Goblin: Oh! In that case, this would be just the thing you're after.

ZK: Well, now I do have Dark Heresy. The wonders of the Internet! :D
I even experimented with making a character, creating the loyal, somewhat naive, easily excitable and very busty Private Jubblowski! The system seems to work just fine, at least for character creation. A nice, easy process with optional randomness and interesting choices available.
I also have CthulhuTech.

For ten thousand years I have fought the Long War. I have bestrode worlds that your mind could not even conceive off, and gazed upon the truth of the universe itself. I looked upon the face of your carrion-god when he walked as a man, and slew brothers of whom your mightiest heros are but pale shadows.

I was the threat, the unseen fear that your precious Emperor threatened wayward systems with. I was the lurking horror, the nebulous terror that waited beyond your pale circles of light. I became the evil that was asked of me, and was then thrown down for it. Do you wonder that I have learned to hate?

Chaos player since Rogue Trader, 3 separate Chaos Marine forces ... my own Dire Wolves (13th Founding), World Eaters, and a Night Lords splinter force, currently unnamed, but leaning towards the Revenants.

However, due to my feelings about the current Chaos dex, my Chaos is all shelved at present.

I first played Loyalist Marines. Then in Geneseed I played a sanctioned Imperial Psyker (Geneseed: a home-made d20 40K game), then when I started collecting again last year, Witch Hunters/Sisters of Battle.

Given the way the Emperor cares for humans, humanity and life itself, and all he wants people to stay away from is the evil force of Chaos - not "giving in to their true nature", not "happiness and freedom", not any of the lies of Chaos worshippers, but the destruction, the death and the needless suffering - how could I not follow such an individual? Certainly, the religion - dedicated to a man of science who was against both religion and needless killing - has been corrupted over time, but it is still far more pleasant than the alternative, and the only reason why the Imperium needs to be at war with humans, and dig through itself for heresy, and kill so many, is the existence of Chaos.

Without Chaos, the Imperium would be a shining beacon of safety and happiness.

Though I have to say, the Witch Hunters codex was a little bit of a letdown - due to Space Marines having everything (and Chaos Space Marines having all of their stuff (except Ass Cannons, which will be less cool in the next edition due to the loss of rending) as well as Daemons), Sisters don't have much unique stuff. Their special weapons (Melta, Flamer and Storm Bolter) can be taken by Marines. Their heavy weapons (Multi-Melta, Heavy Flamer and Heavy Bolter) can be taken by marines. A pair of hand flamers merely works like a flamer (or two HtH weapons), and about all that's left is the Inferno Pistol, for leaders.

Besides, the coolest unit, the Repentias, is overpriced by far, and has little tactical value.

Have you read the current chaos dex? Chaos has lost so much flavour its rediculous. Whats left is bland and boring, and whats worse, some of it is still overpowered.

I can do an army that will rip through just about anything, but its no fun to play with or against, so I refuse to field it .. unless someone wants to take a spin against it, knowing what it is capable off.

I haven't read it - I refuse to read blasphemous materials :p

But I have heard a lot of people complaining about the wrong things getting nerfed and all the individuality and flavour getting ripped out. The new orks one is up in the air, too, from what I hear. Ranging from "Looting now isn't a serious option, and no choppers? WHERE ARE MY ORKS!" to "This is awesome, it's the best Ork Codex yet." to "Hey look, more nerfs and my army requires I spend more money, I should be surprised, but..." to "What should I have expected from a book made by an Eldar player?"

It sounds like they're just going completely downhill, and this makes me sad. The combined fans could probably make a new edition of rules that kept the flavour high, made strategy and tactics important again, was balanced and also fun. But, you know, effort...

Shall I add that (well-informed) rumor has it that GW is exploring some contracts in China for pre-painted figs? Some people I've spoken to indicate it's a done deal already, while others say that GW is still shopping around.

I wish they'd at least sell a few unpainted...

Yeah, and I'd be one of them. Apparently it was just too hard for the kiddies to understand, so to solve that they removed,  well, just about everything really.

I've got about 15000 points points of Chaos that is likely to stay sitting on the shelf bar an occasional Apoc game.

Heh. For what it's worth, I started an Ork army, based on that codex, and Orks are one of the few armies that never really appealed to me. I do think this is a good codex though.

An open mind is like a fortress with its gates unlocked and unguarded.

Anyway, I like Eldar too - I just don't know much about them, and I think their playstyle is (and should be) different to that of Orks.

Eldar are very much a finesse army. In the hands of someone who knows what they're doing, they're lethal. Expect to lose a fair bit with them when you start though, because they're nowhere near as forgiving of mistakes as a marine army. I've playtested a bit with them, and had a though of doing an Alaitoc army, but decided not to bother with it. I have too many armies as it is  :)

I'm vaguely tempted to make a pair of custom Eldar Farseers (Macha and Taldeer, specifically) for Apocalypse. Along with a Vindicare Assassin, the boyfriend of Taldeer.

But then again, I also want to get a fast hero unit from Chaos for an Apocalypse army, and put him at the front, with the justification of:

"This army? They're chasing him. He's just running away, which happens to lead him into the enemy."

Just for comedy value.
