Sometimes the simplest, most normal things can be acutely horrific...if they are only presented in a way that is not quite right...a little off here, more there...and that creeping sense of wrongness begins to pervade your thoughts, then emotions...and then you're suddenly lost in the unknown, as everything you thought you knew dissipates into a parody of the world you cherished and enjoyed.  Terror has come--and it is firmly ensconced in only one place...your mind.

Or a salt shaker is just a salt shaker.  Go figure.
