Pokemon: an ultimate journey (interest thread)

All across the world the powerful legendary pokemon that shape the lands they inhabit have been vanishing and as a result upsetting the natural balance.

Mewtwo the Artificially designed Pokemon and the currently only free Legendary pokemon left has called on the help of skilled trainers from across the regions in order to find and free the ones who have been taken.

OK so hopefully this idea has gained some interest. As trainers start at the age of ten, all our characters being at least 18 will all have several years of experience. In order for diversity I'm having characters use only pokemon from the region in which they originate from so for example if your character is from Kanto then they will only be using Gen 1 pokemon although there will be a small list of exceptions.
1. Evee and all evolved forms
2. Pokemon that get an evolution or prevelution in a later game
3. If you have a pokemon from your gen with an Alolan form

In the instance of players battling each other type advantage will be the deciding factor unless a different decision is made by players involved.
Pokemon will have access to only four moves each so please state what four moves they have.
I won't be using mega evolution or Z moves.

Everyone has their favorites. I was a bit bored last night so I actually started work on a character for this, just in case it decides to go forward.

I'm interested in joining this and working on a character sheet! One question though, I'm still not sure whether the pokemon you're allowed to use are only the ones native to your region, or the ones unique to that region's generation. For instance, on the very first route of Johto you can encounter rattata. However, rattata are gen 1 pokemon not gen 2. Would a johto trainer be able to use a rattata/raticate?

Personality: Mio has a very soft, motherly demeanor, and is typically very patient, kind, and supportive of others as a general rule. She's used to going above and beyond to help others, and finds great enjoyment in doting on both people and pokemon alike. Of course this is all what one would expect from a motherly house wife, but Mio also has a more eccentric streak as well. Her old passion for battling tends to flare up at the oddest of times, and whenever she gets heated about something she can be surprisingly aggressive and intense. She can also be a bit of a goof, having a bubbly enthusiasm and odd sense of humor that for her age can be seen as highly endearing or really embarrassing.

History: Mio started her journey as a pokemon trainer over 30 years ago. Back then as a child she had no real care in the world aside from traveling the world and growing stronger beside her team. Despite pokemon contests becoming a big draw for female trainers at the time, Mio never cared much for it, focusing entirely on tearing her way through the pokemon league. She would compete in the Hoenn league grand tournament for 12 consecutive years straight before retiring, managing to reach the Elite 4 on 5 separate occasions and even facing the league champion once, though she would never actually capture the title herself.

Mio ended up retiring in her early twenties after becoming pregnant with her first and only child Sho, deciding to settle down with her husband and starting a proper family life. She would stay retired for nearly 15 years, until her son decided to start his own pokemon journey. With her son out traveling and her husband often away on business trips, Mio ended up dabbling back into the world of pokemon. First she picked up a part time job at a pokemon day care, then a battler tutor, and even applied to become a gym leader. Unfortunately none of these jobs really captured that old spark of being an actual trainer, and so she eventually decided to come out of retirement and take another go at the pokemon league. She didn't pursue it as seriously as before, every few weeks or so she would take a trip to one of the big cities, have a few battles here and there, maybe even challenge one of the gyms, and it more or less became a hobby for her. However despite that she's managed to rack up quite a few badges, and word of her come back story has made her somewhat renown among older trainers, and day by day the thought of going all out and finally trying to become champion grows more and more tempting.

His actual competence and taste isn't quite up to task though; Dai's lack of education means he's often ignorant of all the information, but that doesn't stop him from pretending he knows exactly what he's doing and rushing in bull-headed.

Dai is charming and confident. He loooves showing off to the point where it comes off in his speech patterns and mannerisms. He talks with his hands and always seems to be trying to guild his words in gold and make everyone possible like him. This with his over exaggerated expressions and actions make him verge on the edge of clownishness (or jump off of it in some people's eyes.) There is always pride in Dai's voice and a flourish to his moves as if he is constantly on stage... which he is in his mind. Of course, his slick words serve a dual purpose of drawing people into his con games and shows, and most don't suspect that his buffoonery is a part of his misdirection and distraction. Though Dai is no longer on the streets, he's still in survival mode and can be overly obsessed with money and success as if his life depends on it. He has no remorse when it comes to conning people's money away from them. Though he is never in the position to need to any more, he would totally steal the pants off an innocent man and do it with a smile to feed himself. If he is not in a show however, if you annoy him enough that silver tongue can quickly turn into a blade and he's remarkably good at finding other people's weak spots and reading them. The only people he will never be mean to under any circumstances is children, he LOVES children.

He refuses to use anything but a cane to assist his wounded hip, ergonomics be damned, as anything else he could use does not go with his outfit. His hair is covering the scar over his face, and while he claims it's because people don't want to pity the performer they're watching to be entertained by, but really it's because Dai hates the scars.

Of course, Dai isn't as simple as he appears. Just as a cute assistant distracts the audience from the slight of hand in a magic show, Dai's flash and fancy distracts from his inner insecurities. He knows he lacks knowledge of the world that's second-nature for most people, that as a contest trainer he won't ever really be able to measure up to the truly skilled battle trainers (which is what people REALLY care about over contests let's be real.) He still feels like a poor street-rat that has been stuffed in a fancy suit that doesn't belong on him. His life is just a performance that never ends, and he's a slave to the show. To keep up his confidence he denies this internally, and can become ridiculously stubborn and defensive to people questioning him. His greatest weakness he already knows: his phobia of large pokemon. He can't really train pokemon that are large and even medium sized pokemon make him nervous unless he's personally raised them from a small preevolution. Dragon types are his most powerful fear, and any significantly large or intimidating pokemon can trigger his phobia. Why is he one of the heroes trying to free the most powerful pokemon in the world? Who knows, he has his own motivations and skills to bring to the table.

History: Originally from Eternia City, Dai was born the middle-child of a large family, and so turned to thrill-seeking antics and misbehavior to act out and get attention. One day when he was young he was dared to go into a cave and bring out a pokemon with his bare hands. It did not go well. Dai ignorantly tried to take a freshly hatched gabite from the cave, and its enraged mother nearly killed him in retaliation. It took Dai months to recover, and left him with scars, physical and emotional. Dais has a bad hip, some superficial scarring on his face, and the scar tissue on one of his lungs prevents him from taking full breaths when exerting himself. Dai was left with a phobia of pokemon for many years, practically making him a pariah with his peers. Refusing to interact with pokemon combined with new struggles to make friends and excel in school meant Dai's bad behavior increased. He dropped out of highschool and turned to being a street magician and con-man to make his money, happily scamming people with his charms and quick fingers. Still, it's hard to make money without a cute pokemon to draw eyes to you. Dai was living on the streets for several years. He had been to therapy, and at this point, and in desperation to earn more money he gathered enough nerve to adopt a very small, very nonthreatening pokemon. He got a small Budew he named Briar to be his lovely "assistant" for his act.

His bond with Briar paved the way for Dai to reconnect with the pokemon world. Eventually he had a small team of pokemon, though they were all extremely small and unassuming species. He taught them tricks and flashy moves in the back alleys where he lived, and eventually began to have a solid performance. Contests were nowhere near as popular in Sinnoh as they were in Hoenn, but they made more money and granted more fame than street performing, and when he was nineteen, Dai made the transition from conning and street performing, to official pokemon contests. After a rocky start, he found his feet and quickly began rising through the ranks. Dai's time on the streets made him extremely driven and focused, and he became known for training his pokemon for excellent form and execution. He had a unique style uninfluenced by tired contest cliches since he had avoided pokemon during his life. Dai became egotistical and obessed with his image, though he had the skills to back it up. He now has two full teams of contest stars.

Over the years he's done contests, Dai's been inevitably drawn into pokemon battles as an extension of contest battles. He can function well enough as a battler now, as his pokemon are extremely well trained even if they're not battle specialists. He's not classically trained, and combined with his contest focus, his greatest strengths are unusual battle strategies and his pokemon's impeccable execution of moves.

I had (still have) a lot of the old cards, and I used to play that a good bit. But I really don't know jack squat about the newer gen. stuff. and my knowledge of moves and pokemon types and their strengths/weaknesses is pretty much limited to how they appear in the card game (and only what I can kind of remember, at that). As far as the cartoon series, I only ever watched the Orange Islands and maybe like a season or two after that. It got redundant really fast, so It wasn't something I made it a point to keep up on. But... I did love the card game.

Well if you watched Johto shit didn't get that much more complicated Tira. ;)

Basically the only thing that's majorly changed is the introduction of the fairy type to balance dragon types more. :3

But I really don't know jack squat about the newer gen. stuff. and my knowledge of moves and pokemon types and their strengths/weaknesses is pretty much limited to how they appear in the card game (and only what I can kind of remember, at that). As far as the cartoon series, I only ever watched the Orange Islands and maybe like a season or two after that. It got redundant really fast, so It wasn't something I made it a point to keep up on. But... I did love the card game.

I think you should still join if you're interested! Since this is a text rp, there's plenty of time to ask questions in between posts or look stuff up if you're unsure about things! If you're insecure you can also play a character who's from Kanto or Johto who's not familiar with the other regions too. The anime and games work pretty differently too, so there's bound to be some differences in style in how people interpret the world we're in anyways. If you want help picking moves or anything, I'm sure others in the thread will be happy to help!

If i do join up, i will have to be from Kanto. Gengar is the only pokemon that ever really mattered to me. I have almost every single version of him in the cards that was made up until like 3  or 4 years ago. I dunno if there are newer editions of him out by now. I even have the Gengar box that came with the special little sleeves of the mega evolution and all that. I never played with those cards, though. I liked pokemon when it was simpler to understand and 70HP was considered high. hahaha

Personality: Lilian is often serious and can sometimes come off as abrasive. She was called the Ice Queen during her younger years, but has shown she can be warm with a soft spot for those she considers friends, sometimes even putting them above her own safety. She hates bullies and loves children.

History: Lilian is the daughter of the Opelucid City Mayor and Gym Leader, Drayden. Though not the easiest father to have, being stern and sometimes over bearing, she learned many valuable lessons from him. When he was too busy, she would always have his Pokemon to look after her, even rescuing her from some precarious situations she got in, just to get his attention when he got too busy.

When she reached her teens, she set out on her own journey to see Unova, coming to understand better many of the lessons her father tried to teach her. She competed in the Unova League twice before taking over the Opelucid Gym after Drayden retired to become full-time Mayor. It wasn't enough for her though. Always getting compared to her father and even worse, her father's apprentice Iris infuriated her. It wasn't until she met Cynthia on a journey from Sinnoh that she realized she didn't want to live in their shadows. So she handed the Gym back to Drayden and left to find something better for herself and her closest friends.

I love the characters we have so far! Your all going to make this an excellent game.
Dont worry too much about that sort of stuff Tira, I was hoping for at least one character from Kanto and I'm sure they will make a fine addition to the team.

Personally, I think it makes a lot of sense a ranger would want to be a part of the team freeing imprisoned legendaries to restore balance and stuff. So it's a great idea tbh. Hell, I'm playing a coordinator afraid of large pokemon, and that makes less sense than a ranger. :P

Name: Tristan Row

Gender: Male

Personality: generally considered cheerful and laid back, Tristan is the kind of guy who likes to get on with everyone although he isn't always successfulin that desire. He's good natured and sees the bright side to almost every situation. He does however have a competitive streak and this shows mostly in his love for pokemon battles, a trait that unfortunately most of his pokemon have also developed.

History: Born in Johto's Goldenrod City Tristan was able to live a pretty peaceful and care free life with his parents having decent jobs and an older brother to look up to.

As he turned twelve Tristan prepared to undergo his journey as a trainer and traveled to New Bark Town to receive his first pokemon from Professor Elm.
Elm had recently been sent three eggs from the Alolan region so Tristan ended up being one of three new trainers with an Alolan starter. Tristan chose Cinderquill and the two began their journey becoming fast friends and making many more along the way.

Tristan went on to win the title of Johto champion five times since then however is more well known for his other exploits. At age sixteen Tristan teamed up with rookie Professor Randall Hedge to prove that the psychic pokemon known as unknown had the abilities to recite prophesy or deliver messages from the dearly departed. Tristan captured several of each type of unknown and they now all reside in Hedge's lab in Goldenrod.

Tristan is also well known for having driven off an enraged Ho-oh at the burned tower after a failed attempt to take over the building by Team Rocket although like every trainer before him who took on a Legendary pokemon he was unable to capture it. He puts this victory mostly down to luck however.

Name: Ivan Carter
Age: 26
Height: 6’0
Weight: 165lbs
Sexuality: Bisexual
Personality: Energetic and enthusiastic. A friendly, honest and open sort. With a tendency to trip over his words and say things he never meant to, before his brain catches up with his mouth. Easy to get along with usually and a caring nature, he likes dragging people out of their shells or getting under their skin. Overall he’s a lot of fun, with a cheerful and positive outlook and a wicked streak of mischief combined with a love of shameless teasing.

History: His father wasn’t around much as a kid, his mother more than made up for this though. Devoting herself to raising her son with a strong moral sense of right and wrong, and a love for pokemon. She was every bit as loud and energetic as he was, the two being best of friends. When it came time to begin schooling, Ivan found himself struggling with staying still and the school work, (eventually diagnosed with dyslexia further down the track)  and rapidly fell into truant behaviour. Preferring the outdoors and wandering into many places he technically shouldn’t have. He dealt with the trouble that was heaped on him by frustrated teachers and parents alike by simply ignoring them and continuing to cave to his wanderlust and love for adventure. He adored pokemon, watching from a distance on his many outings. It was one of the very rare occasions he was able to bring himself to be still, observing pokemon in the wild wide eyed. Excitedly looking forward to the day he could choose his own with a childish enthusiasm.

His first pokemon was to become his via a rather non traditional method. Stuck out in a storm, late one night after losing track of time on one of his adventures, the nearly ten year old tripped over something laying in thick mud while running home to take shelter. When reaching to grab the shoe the mud had sucked off his foot, he found himself surprised to see a Chimchar so heavily coated in mud it was barely recognisable as a pokemon. Clearly in need of help, Ivan wrapped the barely alive pokemon in his jacket and ran the rest of the way home to beg his mother to save it. After a few close calls the Chimchar recovered and promptly refused to leave Ivan, no matter how often he said it could go back to the wild. The two turned out to be a good match, both being highly energetic and enthusiastic. At age ten, he set off on his journey with his mothers blessing to officially start out as a pokemon trainer. His Chimchar at his heels.

Ivan thrived in the competitive world opened to him, his energy and enthusiasm were contagious it seemed. His team in perpetually high spirits even after losses. His enthusiasm when coupled with sheer will power brought him many badges. He loved to train and build up his pokemons confidence and just generally have a ton of fun while aiming for the top. He’s not made it all the way there yet, but he’s getting closer to defeating the champion each try and he doesn’t plan on stopping until he and his team make it through.

Personality: Calm in most situation almost seems cold and uncaring
History: Zander was born in Lavender Town and was said to be cursed from the very beginning. He was always sick. His parents brought in everything from Doctors to priest to ride him of his ailment, nothing seemed to work. He was home school on how to train and handle Poke'mon where he fell in love with poison type Poke'mon at the age of 4. By the time he was 7 he was able to brew antidotes for himself utilizing spores from different poisonous Poke'mon. It the age of 10 it was finally time time to to see the world a dream he had wanted to do as long as he could remember. But alas his parents forbid him to do such a thing. they felt as if he was far to sick.

Zander stormed off to his room and stared at the three starting Poke'Mon from his region. " Why wont they let me go I can make my own medicine with a bulbasaur with me" As he began to close his eyes he realized he needed a bulbasaur as his partner they produced the the purest spore he could get.

Years had past and he had now perfected his antidote. While he became a brand new gym leader.
