caelcormac, why did momma abandon your character? Under what circumstances would she allow your character to live or come back into his life? Also, human+half-elf can certainly yield a half-elf if that helps your concept. I'm not saying no, I'm just trying to work out how this could be incorporated.
Well I was going with the idea that she was a beliver in the eleven philosophy of the apex predator and she herself is some kind of adventurer or leader among elves out in the world chasing transcendence by emulating her hero-ancestors. And its hard to do all of that while dragging the half breed results of a passing infatuation with a human around. So knowing the father is morally obligated to take care of the son, she left him there, with the intention of checking in on him now and again.

Fast forward 20 years later and she finds her son a frail, somewhat meek priest (I was planning on dumping STR). Unable to abide such weakness from her own flesh and blood she goes to kill him, but is instead pleasantly surprised when he picks up a stick and thumps her one (possibly using Shillelagh as I'm thinking of taking nature as my domain).

Seeing that he isn't as weak as he appears and is in tune with the natural world in his own way she is actively encouraging him to find out about his elvish heritage. Its less an issue of letting him back in as much as it is seeing what he makes of himself.

I am fine with NC-E.

Hexed,

  • the background changes are okay. Urchin with the criminal contact feature instead of city secrets.

  • Too cast a spell, you must have a free hand to make somatic components and that hand can also manipulate material components. Arcane foci substitute for material components, so they must be handled, too. A gauntlet foci would work, but it would still preclude using the hand for anything while casting.

Yay! And appologies if it sounded like I was trying to bypass the somatic component with the gauntlet. It's just the image that catches my attention. Maybe too much time playing the Overlord game series and snickering as the foghorn of his gauntlet calls the minions. :D

Of course given her... 7 str it is more likely leather straps around some sort of gem on the back of her hand.

Your character thread might be broken; I clicked out of curiosity and it went to a blank page...

Also I just saw this thread, and I admit I haven't read through ALL of it yet, but 2 things:

1) I have never even read 5th edition but I'm curious about it, am I able to play potentially?

2) I see no levels or char-gen or WBL... see above question for why this is curious to me. Is this normal for 5e, or am I missing/assuming/overlooking something?

Thanks, I'll finish reading through when i can.

Link is fixed.

If you've played any D&D, you'll be fine. If you haven't, 5e rules aren't a barrier to entry, I'll make sure of it.

For character generation, it's standard characters with the race limits I posted earlier in the thread (no drow, dragonborn, or tieflings; and half-orcs aren't casually distinguishable from humans.) Roll, standard array, or point buy for character creation and standard packages or roll for gold to determine equipment. But all rolls have to be shared with the group for potential good-natured ribbing.

You'll find links to the worldbuilding thread here, too.

...I'm curious why no to the drow, dragonborn, and tieflings... I like playing drow (tho I suspect I wouldn't be able to argue my way into playing one, right?).

Also, is this a good resource for this: http://www.5esrd.com/ ?

I saw point-buy was 27 IIRC, I'll go back for array to weight my options...

Important question given how I tend to make PCs: since this is NC-E most likely, what's the level of sex/lewdness for this game? I tend to make exhibitionists, and very sexual characters as a norm, so I need to know if I would have to scale things back, and if so how much.

Drow don't exist, noone's yet risked the dragons' wrath to corrupt them into a permanently humanoid form, and tieflings are highly unlikely given the beliefs in the world allowing the cambion progenitor to get very far. (Plus, tieflings just became boring somewhere after 3e and it's Planescape subtle tieflings became the universally demonic version in 5e.)

The NC-E is for the level of what can happen, not what's intended to. So if you contract a specialist, it can be played out rather than fading to black or if a player has specific kink, etc. Public lewdness would be frown upon and possibly draw reprisal from "offended" parties, especially in a small town like Two Fords. A prostitute in the red light district of a larger city momentarily advertising her wares wouldn't be specially censured for it. That's generally the mainstream humans, at least. As far as brazenness, again, you may get the cold shoulder but likely not outright refusal of your coin. And what you do in private is generally your business.

Just remember that when you sneak off with the innkeeper's offspring, it may be advisable to keep them quiet to keep it private. >:)

You forgot to say, and I assume, this is level 1
Of course. And I don't expect this to go much past 8th, maybe 10th, level, if that.

Anyone can feel free to post their characters in the character thread and edit them as needed. I'll consolidate them in the second post so they're near the top and I'll update the supporting cast thread as more recurring NPCs show up (and the sad, sad archetype prompts get left in the sad, sad, sad character orphanage :'( )

Is Saturday a reasonable time to post the main IC thread or do you need more time for character generation?

Almost done transfering sheet to notepad. :)

So... Found a online spellbook thing. Are spells from elemental evil allowed?

http://www.dndmagic.com/index.php

Very nicely sorted out but they don't list where the spells from till you open it up. And elemental evil seems to be the only non-core book they used.

And hey! Archetype prompts kinda got used. Least it gave us an idea of where to link certain backgrounds. :)

greenknight

Yep, Elemental Evil and SCAG spells are go to go.

And they'll still get used even if no one plays them.

Given the wealth of caster ideas, I'm thinking my knight is gonna be what I stick with

Green, I think she's completely done, but let me know if I missed something.  Also, I'd rather go studded leather armor than chain mail, since it doesn't have the disadvantage to stealth and Raeni's AC is actually a point higher since I can use the full +4 from Dex.  Can I just substitute, since it's actually a cheaper armor?

Edit:  I have to add her spell and junk from her being an elf...so I'll do that today.

greenknight

Yeah, go ahead with the lighter armor, though studded leather has a point less AC in 5e than previous editions, so your AC is still the same. Sumbitch, I know.

I know this is a little off topic, but where did you find that picture Bibliophilia? I'm super in love with it.

Bibliophilia

I found it on Pinterest!  It's Dragon Age fan art.

I got my studded leather AC from the book, though, Green.  It's 12+ Dex, which adds up to 16, and the chain shirt is 13+Dex with a max of 2, which is 15.

greenknight

Fighters get chain mail (heavy armor), it's AC16 and no Dex mods. Of course, it's also disadvantage on Stealth so that still doesn't work with your concept.

Ooooh!  I'm a goober.  -giggles.-  And, yeah, seems better to get the stealth if the AC is the same.

140, not too shabby

@Bibliophilia
Pinterest! My mortal foe! I really need to look into that more, everyone seems to find all the awesome things there.

@greenknight
I'm cranking out a sheet right now. Should I post it here or on the Character thread? I'm going with the cleric

Bibliophilia

It definitely makes searching and saving easier.

greenknight

caelcormac, either thread is good. Your character will have to get there anyway. FWIW, the max price for the cleric's kit is 124gp.

Specifically, your passive Perception in the senses block.

For everyone, if you can add your saving throw and skill bonuses,

You mean the +#?  Where would you like them?

Done and done. I think. Numbers... look right at least. :)
