Elf Quest RP Request

ALright. If you're reading this, something must have caught your eye. Be it the fact that you know the series I'm referring to or that you just love elves. It matters not. All that matters is that you wish to join me in this little RP idea of mine. Here is the general idea of what Elves in The World of Two Moons look like.





They are as varied and diverse in appearance as "The Tall Ones" or Humans, but all follow the same basic guide lines. Less that four feet tall, four fingers, long elfin ears, wolf-like eyes, and the ability to "send" Or communicate with their minds. And a link to the general story and idea for further explanation.

And now onto the plot

On a world that has hunted and rejected them since their arrival, The Wolfriders have finally found a Holt they can call home. There is game and space a plenty for them all. They are safe..... Or so they think. A roaming tribe of Humans ahd made camp near the Holt. Far too close for comfort. Will yet another war erupt from this or will The Wolfriders finally be able to make peace with the five fingered tall ones?

History- Duskblade was born of recognition to Chief Bearheart. His mother was Nighteyes. Their tribe had been at the latest Holt for only twenty turns of the season before Whitemane was born. His upbringing, like all Wolfriders, was a long combination of hunting, stories, and learning The Way from the entire tribe. Until, of course his parents were killed in battle with a band of human hunters. They had been looking for prey and found the tribe instead. Bearheart and Nighteyes were hunters and lead the assault after the humans for killing three of their tribe mates. None but Bearheart returned to tell the tale. The humans were dead, but Bearheart had been severely wounded. He didn't last the night. Whitemane, now Duskblade for his talent in hunting silently, was named Chief and the knot was tied less than an hour later. He took up his father's sword, Mournhowl, which had been passed down since the time of Cutter Kinseeker and became the sixteenth Wolfrider chief. Since then, he has changed the ways his tribe lives. They are far more territorial, marking the boundaries of their land with scents and marks that are there to ward away any trespassers. It has been effective until the past five turns. Humans have returned to the valley below their forest. Duskblade, while harboring a deep loathing for the five fingered ones, is torn. He does not want a war with them, but is unsure weather or not he has a choice in the matter.
Personality- Duskblade is wild ans strongly passionate. He is a relentless hunter, but also a wise leader, He is able to speak well, if not particularly eloquently, but also bark out swift commands when the time comes. He has a tolerance for dream berries that is unrivaled among the current tribe.

History: Hailing from a long line of chiefs, Trueshot is the granddaughter of chieftess Ember who first led half of her father's tribe out into the wilderness to form their own band of wolfriders during the battle for the palace many, many eons ago. With the fall of Ghrommel Dinn and his citadel, Ember led her tribe across new lands and through many adventures. In the course of doing so recognized with her faithful lovemate, Tier, also known as Wolf Father.
Together, the two had a cub, Firebrand who proved to be just as tenacious as his mother and when she eventually passed, did his best to fill the role as chief. For a time, there was peace until humans encroached on the tribe's territory and the age old hatred between elf and human was sparked once more.
But Firebrand proved his worth by leading the tribe through the tough times and eventually found recognition with the beautiful Meadowlark who was to be his voice of reason and friend of his heart and soul. Where Firebrand was bold, Meadowlark was thoughtful. Where he was ready to leap into the thick of things she was content to sit back and watch, observe and lend her support. Together they had a daughter, Trueshot, who grew into a confident soul who possessed her father's courage but her mother's caution.
When humans ambushed a hunting party her parents had joined and subsequently were killed, it was the young chieftess who decided that rather than retaliate, it was time for her tribe to find the other wolfriders who hailed from the infamous Cutter and make the wolfriders one tribe again.

Personality: There lies within her a medium of caution and risktaker that can sometimes leave those close to her suffering near heartattacks witnessing her escapades. She values peace above all else though is not afraid to defend holt and tribe like a she-wolf if there is no other option.
She is very dedicated to her tribe and is full of passion, making her just as much a dedicated lovemate as well. She can be rather cool, almost frosty at times but also has a temper that could make even a bear think twice about fighting with her. There are times she welcomes the presence of another and other times, she seeks solitude to clear her mind. Especially when wrestling with a problem that weighs heavily with her.

History: The daughter of Windsong and Arrow, Trueshot inherited her mother's looks and her father's skill at hunting. Much like the arrows she fires, she seldom misses her mark which may make conversation with her uncomfortable at times. Though to counterbalance her lack of tact, there is something tender in her touch, perhaps a throwback to her mother's slight healing ability that is like a warm salve to soothe all hurt feelings.
She was born in the thick of the fighting between elves and five-fingered ones, during which her elder brothers were slain as was her father, Arrow. It was only after Trueshot was old enough to survive on her own that one night Windsong walked out into the darkness never to return.
Some whispered it was exposure to the elements that took the gentle wolfrider, while others said it was the loss of a lifemate that claimed her life. For when she was found, there was no mark on her body and in her arms she clutched Arrow's favorite shirt. From then on, the tribe became her family and Trueshot grew into her own.
While she has no love in her heart for humans, she hates war even more and would seek a more peaceful alternative. However she is not above doing what needs to be done to defend both tribe and holt. And though Duskblade is chief, if ever there were an elf in the tribe to serve as advisor, she would certainly be it.

Personality: While she is cool and calm most of the time, there lies deep within a temper that could make even a bear think twice about crossing paths with her. Fearless almost to the point of being suicidal at times, especially when hunting, her escapades are the stuff of songs to be sung around campfires while eating dreamberries.  Devoted and passionate, she has yet to find a lifemate, something she is leery of for fear of being so dependant upon another that she cannot live without them much like her mother.

Oh wow.  I was an avid ElfQuest reader when I was younger, but only read Complete ElfQuest 1-8.   Will this be set in any canon time period?

Oh yes.  My favorites were Strongbow and Skywise, though I would have most liked to have been friends with Scouter (who was too good for Dewshine).  Maybe I just have a thing for "S" names.

Awe, I rather liked Scouter and Dewshine's relationship. He showed such devotion to her and she loved him even though she'd recognized with Tyldak. It wasn't her choice and it was only after he'd given her his solemn promise to raise the cub as his that she gave into the demands of Recognition.
I always thought Strongbow was rather handsome, (Especially as he grows older) and my favorite females have to be Leetah, Khavi, Venka, and Joyleaf.

Strongbow was a sexy beast even without being the silent type.  No one looks better with a beard.  I think Pike would be the most fun to be around.  He was a decent sort.  My favorite female was Nightfall.  She definitely was responsible for Redlance becoming what he was.  Khavi was pretty badass, too.  So, would we be playing canon only, OC only, or a mix?

I'm down with cannon. I've already acknowledged that Cutter lived, so why not have someone survive through the centuries til Chief #16. Gonna have to say that Nightfall and Tyleet are my favorites. And Skywise is a total BAMF....... Reyek is pretty awesome though. And Skot and Krim were effing amazing! Especially the way Skot dies.

I'm thinking of playing Dart.  Having Strongbow as a father, but growing up in Sorrow's End I think makes him as interesting guy, but I'd like to read up on him.

Could mold the tribe after Ember's group. Maybe they found their own holt and have lived there ever since. Maybe call it the Forevergreen or something and for a time, it was so remote and untouched by the hands of humans.
As for Dart, I think it would be interesting if for whatever reason, he were to be wrapped by preservers again and then awaken a time later and while still retaining his youthful looks, has the experience of an elder in a new time and place.
Maybe something happened to Cutter's band and when Dart woke up, he was all alone with no sign of other wolfriders. And only during his wandering does he come upon this tribe that is descended from Ember, Cutter's daughter? Just an idea.

Aahhh Elfquest...wonderful! If I remembered actual story I'd join! But it's been like...30 year since I read Elfquest...and I honestly only remember Willow...Cutter..and Skywise. Nice that someone is trying though!

I have an idea after reading Rukio's post about the two tribes merging. Perhaps Trueshot is chieftess of one tribe and Duskblade chief of the other.
The time has come for the two to merge together and live as one to preserve their numbers and The Way now that humans are growing numerous. With so many generations of no recognitions, it is hoped that this will spark a few so that new wolfriders can be born. Maybe Kckolbe could play the lovemate of Trueshot? An eventual recognition between Duskblade and Trueshot could prove very interesting and I'm sure the two chieftians will butt heads while they try to find a happy medium as the tribe resettles.

I am very interested in this, Kckolbe told me about it and introduced me to the series which I have been reading with a lot of amusement.  It is quite familiar to me as a lot of the themes and the elves themselves are quite bit like things from other fantasy settings I like.  I don't know why but the art style always reminds me of Dragonlance for some reason which is not at all a bad thing.

So id be quite intrigued and happy to be a part of this as an original character :) I think id be more interested in playing a different sort of Elf rather than one of the wolf riders but I could easily just play one of them if it made more sense and worked better.  Id be sorely tempted to play a preserver just because I adore Petalwing and how she is often so overlooked and ignored.

If you are accepting, I would be thrilled to play a female healer or shaper, in that order of preference. Here is a rough outline for her. I left the personality and history blank so I can get some feedback and possibly some background connections to help her flow into the setting a little better. He has unmatched speed in short bursts, though his speed will decrease on longer runs to just below average. When the hunt is on, his face turns viscious and unrelenting. His eyes are always the color of egg-yolks.

I think I'm gonna tweak Trueshot around if that's alright with Rukio and make her chieftess of one tribe that merges with his, assuming that everyone else is alright with this idea as well. And then make a couple more characters to play in both tribes. And ooou! I like the idea of a preserver like Petalwing ^^;

I'd love to have Dove as my tribe's healer and like the idea of perhaps Trueshot being a descendant of Ember, which would account for why perhaps there are a few non-wolf riders in her splinter group.
I personally say go for creativity with Dove's healing abiilties but this isn't my roleplay group so Rukio does have the final say.

I had an inspiration, and your feedback helped. She will mostly likely be strictly a healer, but if the scene arrives that she is threatened and in close quarters, she might channel her anger and fear over her happy healing vibes and end up hurting the aggressor - hinting her to the fact her gift can be a weapon.. and allow exploration in character from there.

On the Rukio idea... PM him? IF he doesn't respond after a good amount of time - then we always leave him an invitation and apply our characters to our own game? I hope that isn't E Faux-pas but since we all have the interest and it's not a game world he solely created.. then why would it be an issue?

I'm going to spread the word to a couple of of my writing partners to see if they would be interested in the sandbox.

Sounds good Embiechan, and I'm glad to help.  Rukio has been silent for a while, and I haven't seen him on YIM either.  He may have simply lost access rather than interest.  I am glad to see some people here are interested in playing even if he doesn't stay with us, though I think we need some more males if we do.

I haven't heard from Rukio either, and he was game on me playing Winnowill. The idea was to have her spirit take over a human, and rule the humans that way. Let me know if the game goes forth?

Let's do a tally then and see who and what we have? Actual character forms I have seen are three, 2 fem and 1 male - the one male being Rukio. If we honestly have 4 or more PC's ready to jump in I'd think we can start a small group game. The genders don't have to be perfectly even, as long as everyone has a pairing (which is flexible given the sexuality in the world of two moons) that they are hay with - but close numbers would be best.

The winnowell idea is a mixed bag for me. She is a powerful spirit and could easily be our antagonist, but actively having player vs player sides can be fabulous or horrible. Assuming we could keep it balanced, and you may possibly want to take a minor secondary character for the times where the tribe and the villian are not in direct conflict might be a good idea. A story of all fighting is tedious, IMO

Hello I would still be interested but I also don't like the Winnowill idea, as much as I like the character and her type. I agree with what Embiechan said and often find that this sort of thing can too often sour, spoil or unbalance a game/story so id probably only join in if that was not going to be a concern. I am not really a big fan of player vs player in this type of roleplay either as that tends to go the same way so Id rather just avoid it in any form.  I hope it works out well however if you go ahead with it that way :) 

I was thinking about the possibilities of doing an Elfquest inspired story in the future perhaps myself probably based in D&D/Pathfinder type setting, a campaign perhaps drawing on common themes and such which id probably enjoy a lot more anyway.

Alright. I think I'm up to speed on everything right now. I am still accepting characters. I'm also kind of looking for human characters for some conflict and some potential NC ideas for prisoners. Character sheet should be set up similarly for both humans and elves. Just no soul name or special powers and such.

I'm sure we can tweak something for Winnowill to make it acceptable for all, but I kinda liked the idea of having her still being a pain in the ass.(Pun intended)  ::) I was going on the idea that Reyek had taken her spirit into his own body when she died and she finally gained some control. But the whole thing is still open for debate.

As for characters. I have 1 male(Me) and 2 female down so far. I'd like to see more before I get started with anything more final though.

As for setting, I thought it was a woodlands style holt of one of the two tribes - and the other tribe met up and they start to merge. Why the other group showed up is still up for talk. I would think that the "home team" would be mostly if not all wolfrider. The incoming tribe could easily be a mix of stragglers who banded together for mutual survival.

That's my take on it at least.

Actually, why wouldn't it make sense to have the second tribe be a mix. Airoree was a glider, but she joined the Wolfriders. So did several others. I think I mentioned Skot and Krim earlier in the thread.(Is still kinda fanboy over Skot's death)
I was aiming to have Duskblade's tribe being strictly Wolfriders, but I am starting to like the idea of having Birdriders too and maybe some others. I also seem to remember Tier being a loner Plains dwelling elf. The one who joined Ember's tribe. The one with the animal bond powers.

Based on the EQ Who's Who... Tier was a plains-living but solitary elf that is suspected to be a go-back descendant. All unconfirmed. So, yes lol

We could see what characters people want to play and shape a backstory and world setting from there? I hope I am being helpful.

Planes Runner?

They're one of the tribes in the Elfquest RPG from the 80's, same as the Wavedancers. The only difference is that the Wavedancers eventually made it into a comic, while the Plane Runners stalled at the concept art stage. The idea behind them was a kind of nomadic tribe that rode No Humps, and fallowed large herds of prey animals. they used the animals (i forget the name for them) as food, tools, shelter, ect., much like some native american tribes.

Without the Palace i could easily see some the Go Backs returning to there nomad roots, In time becoming this tribe, while the Wolfriders were sleeping the ages away in wrapstuff.

Ok.. slightly confused. Realize, I have most of the original quest memorized, and I know some of king's of the broken wheel - other than that I'm not up to date. I think I'm going to cuddle up with the web-server comic and catch up.

Are we in an parallel timeline and just using the world, playing distant possible relatives to the cannon characters, or are we still going to be in enough timeline to interact with the cannon cast? Just trying to wrap my head around where we are going to be.

We will be well past the canon, five chiefs AFTER Ember.  Some canon characters may still be alive though.  Hope that helps.

I was setting it up so that Duskblade was the 16th Wolfrider chief and taking advantage of the fact that they aren't very consistent with the development of human society. After all, The Shards block seemed to have humans on the verge of an industrial society and right afterward, there were nomadic tribal humans again. I was gonna take advantage of that fact and have the humans be about as technologically advanced as the elves. You know, to even the playing field.

Sorry it took me so long to get back, spent the day in bed and I'm at the whim of using a computer at the cafe in my complex..I digress.
Order of business the first: I realize that my last message sounded kinda, er..actually, bitchy. So I apologize to Rukio for that one as well as to JinZah since my reply in PM's was a bit curt as well. I'm really a nice person..honest. ~Coughs~

I still plan on making characters for Duskblade's tribe to even things out so Trueshot isn't left with all the characters. And I can also make male characters if needed to which brings me to the matter of the plot and a suggestion for it.
Personally, I'm game to have Winnowicked show up in a new form and create havoc for the elves. It would also stand to reason why the two tribes would need to come together and unite all the more. Also, Rukio wants more human characters and Winnowill DID have a human form for a brief time during the Shards saga. And man, was she ever badass.
My suggestion for plot is this; Duskblade's tribe is directly descended from Cutter's tribe whereas Trueshot's tribe is directly descended from Ember's tribe.
Perhaps there is a new threat that prompts a quest for Trueshot's tribe or maybe a recognition? Maybe a member of one tribe is able to do that spirit travel thing that Suntop/Sunstream, Cutter's son was able to do and recognizes with an elf of the opposite tribe, thus forcing the two tribes to find one another?
I also like the idea of Trueshot having a lovemate already and then recognizing with Duskblade, but reluctant to accept it.

Tribal Position: Healer as well as a skilled storyteller

History: The sole cub born to his parents, Dandelion grew into his healing power very early in life. It's said that while his mother carried him, she seemed to glow with radiance and that because of his power, her birthing was virtually painless and extremely easy. His father was a skilled tracker and showed his son where healing herbs were to assist the boy in his intended duty as healer to the tribe. Dandelion's only regret is that he was too far away when his father was bitten by a poisonous serpent and died before he could reach him.
Because of the devotion and support of his parents, he takes his role as healer serious and has dedicated himself to supporting Duskblade as well as entertaining his tribemates with song and story.

Personality: Generally a sunny and happy individual who enjoys a good romp in the furs and bringing joy to those around him. Laughter is the best medicine after all, though he can be serious at times. Definately more of a lover than a fighter however but if there is no other option, he will pick up a spear and defend what matters to him. A romantic but hasn't gotten too serious as of yet with any lovemates. A bit insecure deep down however that he doesn't look as 'manly' as some of the other elves.

GRARGH!!!!!  >:( Stupid! School and stupid homework! I swear I have time to keep doing this. I'm more free now. I've just been caught up at work and school so much. I'll make an effort to post at least once a day from now on.  I would like everyone still interested to post a character profile please. It doesn't have to have a picture. A description will do nicely if you can't find one that suits your taste. I only have 4 right now. I'm looking for at least two more elves and a few humans before I get to opening the game itself.

I long time ago read the comics which were published, sadly tough the comics did not go farther than sun people related (comic book 5-6 at best? Need find the rest XD).

Anyways could roll up elf or human char. Need think concept little bit more and check wikipedia.

They have? Great! Also checked in wikipedia that there may be movie in making in near future (promise was made in 2008). Also there is Elfquest 2 kind of series with 31 books. Anycase I wonder about shapers; can be there fire shaper? Or water shapers? I wodner as there is wood and stone/rock shapers could be there shapers to all element types (fire, air, earth and water).

Vernyl Fireheart

Soul Name: Fir
Elf species: Sun-Folk (desert elf basically but from different part of world)
Age: 120
Position in his former village: Fireshaper, jeweler and smith
Description: Vernyl Fireheart is taller than wolfriders and most elves (because he is son of elder). But height difference is not much as he is fairly very young for a elf (image wise think he is head and half taller than Cutter). But no doubt once he grows few more centuries to his belt he can tower everyone in height like elder did.
History: Vernyl Fireheart comes from among Sun-Folk, but from different tribe than from what Wolfriders befriended with originally. Vernyl is a son of the elder of the village and early life he had discovered he had rare gift; ability to control fire. In old myths elves who had this gift could conjure blazes of fire and manipulate it great extend, as some elves even manifested a manifestation of fire; light. However Vernyl's gift is not that strong but potent in it's own ways. He can increase or reduce heat of any fire source. He can change coloring of fire and he can heat metal just by touching it and he does not get burned easily by fire. So he can shape metal bare handed because his intense heat burns on metal, making it softer to handle and he does not get burn in process. Naturally silver and gold which go very soft by heat was easy for him to shape while steel or harder metals asks more physical power in his part to bend. So he became village's natural expert jeweler because he could heat metal to allow squeeze gem stones into metal and make beautiful jewelry with very organic design and feel to them.

But few times when in extreme emotion he has made accidentally increased other living creatures temperatures, one case make person faint from sudden fever which lasted whole day. Another case he had caused a existing camp fire to erupt in sudden powerful blaze which scorched person near the fire. These two cases has made him focus extensively not loose his temper or go angry and so forth. As he knows the key power to cause destruction with fire is negative powerful emotions and he is sure in extreme case he could perform one the ancient fireshaper weaving which conjure fire from out thin air to cause extreme harm.

Vernyl lived in shadow of his elder mother, admiring her and her wisdom. They lived in oasis with few rocks and rich vegetation around it. They had build houses from clay and from cured leathers from their herd animals and from few trees were used as support beams. But their idyllic life ended when wandering band of troll warparty found oasis and it's occupants and attacked! Many died in attack, including Vernyl's mother who tried reason with trolls but got killed down by arrow in chaos of first confrontation. In rage his village had responded to this act with bloodlust which was not natural way of their people. They caused return casualties with simple tools but only reward was making trolls truly mad and cause more than half villagers killed in the attack. Vernyl and few others were knocked out and brought in as slaves to trolls who lived in blackstone mountain.

In there Vernyl was only male left from his village, rest had been killed in battle. Only reason why he was spared because the warparty captain had seen him melt bare hands steel sword which handle he had gripped during grappling his opponent. They forced him to work in their forges or otherwise women of the village would suffer or be even killed from his defiance far before his turn would come up! With that blackmail Vernyl endured twenty years living in trolls forge as 'heater' as they called him. He made forges embers burn brighter and hotter, allowing faster work with steel, armor and also do jewelry for them. He learned also smithcraft from trolls and he learned use his gift to forge weapons. Years in forge had given him hardy endurance and muscles, but in his back and legs are dozen whip marks from troll slave watchers who whipped him if he happened be slower than usual, even when he was sick or tired he was forced to work.

He saw his village women served as servants, bakers and so on. Also collector of herbs and one had gift with animal speak so she tended beasts of burden trolls had. Then trolls greed backfired on them when they mined suddenly onto bottom of a lake! Causing massive collapse in tunnels and causing large parts of blackstone keep to collapse! Literally wash their occupants out down into canyon into river! Vernyl was among the washed up trolls and debris and he fell down to canyon into river. By some miracle he survived the experience barely alive. He was found by one member of Wolfrider tribe in the river.

Right on! We needed another elf character....... I'm not sure any of the sun folk had their soul names hidden, but..... Meh. What the hell? It's a custom character. He can have it.  ;D And yes. There were fire shapers. One back in the time of Timmorn was called Fastfire. That segment made little sense to me though. I did manage to pick up on him however.

Indeed :D. He does need healer as he is half-drown and battered down the river. I intent roleplay from point when he is found if GM is alright with that. Perhaps him searching remaints of his village could become kind of sidequest for some others. Anyways there had been fireshapers before? Nice so I do not completely make up them. I just hope my abilities are not too strong, I do not intent my char be fireball tossing sort of guy. But beware if he gets seriously angry and he happens carry pair of torches in his hand....

What I recall the sun folk do have soul names but most simply do not know them. As soul name is important part of the recogniction. Wolfriders as I recall know their soul names but never tell them expect their recognized partners (and to parents). But I think it's not impossible for sun folk learn their soul names, and my char is custom sort and he was son of elder so he may know his soul name.

With Vernyl's background, however - it could have easily developed when he was acting as a slave/tool for the trolls. at least that's what my mind says.

Sun Villagers long lost the need to have a soul name, but it's our roleplay, right? Or namely Rukio's so if he allows it, then there we go.
I can make another elf if you need one, Rukio, just pm me with the sort that you need and who is going to which tribe? I mean, eventually they'll be one tribe.

Ah, true. I forgot that part of the story. But thanks for good idea explain why my char has soul name; 20 years slavery he developed a more personal name, a soul name, to keep himself sane and able endure hardship.

Description:  Tall (for a Wolfrider), with long arms and pale skin, Nightarrow might be the most visible target at night.  He has blond hair and dark green eyes.  He has deep, sunken eyes and a very piercing stare.
History: Born to Moontree and Leafblade, the former of which was a constant antagonist to the then chief Firebrand, who was seen to take too many unnecessary risks.  As cubs, Nightarrow and Trueshot would often hear their the chief and woodshaper at wills, though it never escalated to much beyond yelling.
Nightarrow, like many of the old way, prefers sending to talking, and can send quite powerfully, with an angry send from him far worse than someone yelling in your ear.  He brags on being the most accurate with the arrow whip, which no one strong enough to pull a bow challenges him on.
