Unretouched photo is offensive to Sarah Palin fans.

For real...no one should be airbrushed...period...it's why the young women -and- men of this world are doing stupid shit like starving themselves...and worse...killing themselves...because they cannot compete with airbrushed beauty.

Um. I watched this. And I didn't see "Omg she is ugly and thats unfair!" that it seems to me you guys are seeing. I see a news report on biasness on NEWSWEEK magazine...They did everything in their power to make Obama look angelic, wonderful, and perfect..but did nothing for Palin..and it is the republican stance that tehy did the upclose and no touch ups on purpose to make her look worse....unfortunately for human nature we do judge by appearance, atleast subconciously...who would you ask help you to your car on a dark night? A man in a suit and tie, or a man unwashed and dirty?

*shrugs* Thats just how I see it....I would think American Voters would not be fooled by such antics and continue to vote on issues...(just for the record I detest Palin, and really think that I would rather of had no woman on the ballot then a Token woman...but thats another rant in and of itself)

Sherona

I do want to add, that I find it funny that a news network that is pretty biased towards Republican candidates is crying foul about biasness towards democratic...To me any news media outlet should be unbiased...

ShrowdedPoet

Retouch her if you want it!  If you really want to vote on someone just because of how they look then you are an idiot!  There is nothing wrong with showing her as the way that she looks.  They need to get over it.  Airbrush someone and they're not themselves anymore.

My first thought on seeing that video: Someone needs to take their Midol.

Any woman who looks at the cover would be horrified?  Um... last I checked, I was a woman.  Don't presume to talk for all of us, sweetcheeks.  We don't all agree with you.

All I could think when she said "It ain't pretty" was "Wow, and neither are you ... bitch..."

Well, I do think this is certainly a cause for concern.  There is no denying that physical appearance is important for public affairs.  People vote on what they see and that is just a harsh truth of life.  Sarah Palin is a beautiful woman, but at that close there will be skin imperfections that the camera picks up.  At this point this is not about air brushing but simply ensuring the person survives an extreme close up.  None of us would enjoy something like that happening to us, but then again that may have been the point of the photograph.

That thought does strike me because the article seemed to be about her being “normal.”  I also remember a lot of people commenting on how she’s trying to connect with the people in a school mom sort of way.  Former beauty queen being dressed down a bit that might be the point.  Besides I can’t see the Republican party letting a picture like that just slip under the radar for a major publication.

The things is ... you don't just stumble into politics. And you don't just stumble into the VP nomination. And you don't just stumble into accepting it. And she's become the focal point of a presidential campaign (which pisses me off to no end lately... because where the fuck is McCain?)... there is always mudslinging. Not to mention having to pose for the extreme close-up picture, even if NEWSWEEK bought it from someone else.

In short, what did she think was going to happen? NEWSWEEK is doing its job. They are selling copy. That's what they do. It's their business. Obviously they are doing something right ... since they are being featured by other news agencies, and getting caustic commentary thrown at them.

Seriously.

Yes, but if Newsweek is playing sides in that fashion to discredit a candiate than another news agency can run a report about that.  Palin may expect defamation and such on her character, but I doubt Newsweek wants it publicly known that they are going to crucify canidates they do not support.  That would mean they are banned from any interviews and events of that entire party.  Newsweek would lose sales like they couldn't imagine.

Andrea Tantaros in her role as the 'enraged bitch' could only make me think over and over of a Vin Diesel line..ever get punched in the mouth for talking too much?

Puleeze honey, you haven't convinced anyone. True, people get airbrushed on magazine covers all the time, but I'm going to guess Obama never asked to be. Don't expect to be winning an Oscar anytime soon for that performance, but I'm sure rottentomatoes.com has a place reserved for you.

And no I won't be 'trusting' and taking her word on the condition of Palin photo...wanna talk bias? Consider the source. This is fracking Fox, the mouthpiece of the idiotic right that blackeyes anything even remotely conservative, the same channel that invites Rush Limbaugh on the air. Yeah the same Rush Limbaugh that spent the entirety of the Clinton era as our resident hot air balloon, when he could have spent his time powering a wind farm in Texas or a steam turbine.

It's all good though, really...it's all OK. Know why? Because it's obvious by now that the campaign is slipping away from McCain, likely to him as well. They're going to pull every little pissy, whiny, dirty trick in the book now. The conservative revolution has had a nice long run, but as it's been well put, once the party is in there just to hold onto power, the revolution is over. Sayonara....now let's focus on something meaningful, like...I don't know, perhaps the crumbling economy??? Remember that?

I'm tempted to hit the mall and see a movie tomorrow. If I run across a copy of it in Barnes & Nobles as I order coffee, then fine I'll take a peep at it, but I won't actively seek it out. You'll forgive me if I file it under I for irrelevant, being as I'm much more concerned about who the candidates actually are what they stand for on the important issues, instead of how any one periodical chose to portray them.  :-\

Trieste

I'm just saying that it's a rather easy way of checking for bias... since you can check it out for yourself. You don't have to take the reporter's word for it.

The Overlord

Yes I know. Since I've been back in art school I tend to notice work (or errors) with Photoshop, and I must admit I'm at least curious to see it. My money says they're overblowing the whole thing, but at this point the McCain campaign is all but quoting Melville...to the last I grapple with thee...

Trieste

One can only hope, but despite living in the technical South, you live in a comparatively liberal part of the South. Considering the fact that I am seeing prolific McCain/Palin signs and bumper stickers even up in MY neck of the woods (near Boston), I'm still uncertain. Granted, up here, they are very much outnumbered by the Obama/Biden stuff, but ...

The Overlord

Well Atlanta is about as liberal as the deep south gets, especially when something like Dragoncon is going on, which is the biggest assembly of liberals the city is likely to see short of hosting the DNC, but still. My grandmother's house in peripheral suburbia is deeply McCain country, with all her neighbors posting their cutesy 'another family for McCain' signs. I can't say I have real strong respect for a large slice of population around here, not because they merely chose to go republican, but because for them the alternative is electing a black man. They don't have to say it. Evolution has missed the south in more ways than one...

Don't get me wrong, it's not over until it's over, but I think we've got a real strong chance here of taking a solid leap forward as a country...if not then we'll blow it, and end up mired in the past.

What I've increasingly felt for some time now is that early November can pretty much either restore my faith in my fellow citizens or destroy it.

Quote"Nailin Paylin": Hustler's Palin Porn Details

TMZ has new details about Hustler's Sarah Palin-inspired porn:
Hustler Video is shooting a porn with a look-alike, titled "Nailin' Paylin." The spelling is sic and so is Hustler.

The faux Sarah is Lisa Ann, who "will be nailing the Russians who come knocking on her back-door." In another scene -- a flashback -- "young Paylin's creationist college professor will explain a 'big bang' theory even she can't deny!"

There's also a threeway with Hillary and Condoleezza look-alikes. The video is in pre-production, but is being fast tracked for release before the election.

I see that line a lot in my crafting circles.  I tend to take the 'cat' approach, which involves licking my paw and saying 'I meant to do that.'  (Watch a cat after it has taken a fall or done anything undignified.)

As for the picture - I would rather vote for a 'real woman' who is more interested in doing her job than applying an hour's worth of makeup.  Priorities, what?  I have a tendency to 'watch' TV with my ears rather than my eyes, so maybe I have an advantage over the image-happy.

(Still, Palin is a little too Stepford for me.  Just my opinion.  I preferred Ferraro.)

Well... actually ... the complaint is that nobody looks good, even with an hour's worth of makeup, at that extremely close distance. She still looks like she has an hour's worth of makeup on. They're just pissed that nobody took MORE time to take an airbrush to her picture ...

... you know, I really just don't get it. Even supermodels don't bitch about this, man. Cindy Crawford once got her bellybutton edited out of a picture in some major fashion magazine. Full-page bikini-style spread and she had no bellybutton. She laughed. The world's most famous (and at that time most in-demand) supermodel ... laughed. So why can't Palin?

It's still worrying more about appearance than issues, when you get down to it.

So - Cindy Crawford must have been divinely created (no umbilicus -> not birthed, ergo...)?  I know quite a few guys who would agree. ;)
