Spoilers and image load time

So starting to add a bunch of images in with My O/o again... 

I was wondering, if images are inside spoilers, do they still add to the page's loading time, regardless?  Or do they only load when someone clicks on the individual spoiler they are hidden under?

I've been told that images behind the Spoiler bar are easier on loading time than even reduced images using the img tag sizing.

     Btw, what is the code again to both resize an image and let people click it for the original size?  I think that was possible, but I can't seem to remember how to do it.  All my resized ones are coming out not clickable.

If you ad width=XXX to the image tag it resizes the image but if someone clicks on it it expands to full size. The images in my a/a page first and second post are like that.

They don't expand in preview for anyone, as near as I know.  It doesn't stop them from working correctly in the post.

Personally, I have dial up and they load just the same in spoilers as they do in a post normally, but when resized with the width=XX it works much easier. Just my two cents as one of the lagging members of E. :P Hope it's helpful.

I used to have a good proportion of my O/Os thread under spoilers, but it didn't actually seem to make the thread load faster. 

What has made it load faster for me is first the new site, which is at least twice as fast as the old, but more dramatically: using https at least on picture laden threads that I view often.

https loads noticeably slower (than http) the first time around on a thread, but subsequent loads, even days later, are lightning fast.  I think it has something to do with the way Veks has it cached.  (either that or https bypasses some bottleneck on the way from the site to me). 

[I went from 10 second loads of my O/Os on the previous host to 4 seconds on the new one, and then to less than 0.2 seconds using https here.]

You might want to try it and see, if you aren't already.

The img size tags do nothing for load times - they only shrink the displayed size of the image. The full image is still loaded.

Yeah. The main use of this is so that your pictures fit all nice and pretty in your posts. =)
