I saw this movie about a week ago and I still can't get it out of my mind.  I had read there was some pretty graphic violence but that it wasn't gratuitous (I am not sure I completely agree with that statement--I am thinking about the nose being smashed by a bottle scene in particular).  However, the imagery, the music, and the Pale Man monster--I just can't get them out of my head.  I think this is one of those movies that will probably seep into my psyche and that I will definitely have to own when it comes out on DVD.

Anyone else affected by it like I was?

i saw this a few weeks ago - i thought it was a wonderful movie, but to be honest, i was expecting something lighter... more fantasy, and it was so brutal and heavy!  I'm still sort of sorting it out, to be honest, trying to figure out if it was in anyway a happy ending... i'm still not convinced it was, although i could argue that the little girl ended up back in her father's kingdom, rather then... i'm not even sure i want to see it again - it really made me very sad - but like you said, it's stuck in my head and i'm still worrying at it.

I listened to an interesting interview with the director last night...it was interesting to hear his own take on whether or not the little girl was imagining the whole thing or whether the Underworld was real...

that's the part that i couldn't decide on - whether it was her escape, her way of dealing with things, or if it really existed - and the ending really depended upon which version you believed... it still haunts me, seriously - it's rare that a movies upsets me so much, but it really did - i'm serioulsy not planning on wathching it again - i just don't want to be put through that again.   it broke my heart a little.
