It's Been Awhile

It’s been awhile, but she comes around again.
She’s broken, anyone can see.
He’s broken too.
As torn as anyone can be.
He tries to hide it,
Pretend everything is okay.
She can see it but she doesn’t tell.
He get’s this faraway look some days,
He remembers.
Other places, other people: they weigh on him.
She knows his burden, though he doesn’t tell her.
She kisses his hurt. He kisses her scars
And tells her, “I’ll be okay.”
They’re broken together.
But they like it that way.
