To the far north, there is a university where students go to learn about magic. Only the most skilled are allowed to attend, and roughly half the students who attend are killed by the challenges there. Those who survive, however, become wealthy beyond their wildest dreams and go on to serve kings and empires in ways normal men could only imagine. When most people are recruited, they join up at once, regardless of the risk. It is rare for someone to flat out refuse, but there are rumors that the Academy takes extreme measures to get especially strong recruits.

Collin Reynolds was one of the few to ever refuse an invitation to the university. He was about to be married to the girl of his dreams, and while they had little, they were happy together. Only a few days after their wedding, masked soldiers broke into their home and abducted Collin. His wife went to the lord of the land, but was told under no uncertain terms to let the matter rest. Rather than obey, she launched a desperate mission to find her husband, throwing what little they had into the search. When the money ran out, she borrowed, turning to so very shady people for resources and information.

Eventually all the shady dealings caught up to her. She was captured by bounty hunters and sold into slavery to pay her debts. She thought her story was at an end, but that was when she was taken to the Arcane Academy to be sold. After some fierce bidding, she was won by a new but promising student from the school. It wasn't until the bidder came close that she recognized him for Collin. Unfortunately, he didn't recognize her. To put a stop to his resistance, his memories were erased and new ones were introduced. The Collin she knew isn't on the surface anymore, but he might still be there.

I'm looking to explore an attempt on the part of the wife to remind Collin who he is. Eventually, they will have to plot an escape from the Academy together and start new lives, but the biggest challenge will be convincing him everything he remembers is a lie.
