"This school exists for a single and timeless purpose: to reveal your innate abilities and hone them to the highest degree. Now, what you do with it after that is entirely up to you. If you want to take over the world, we don't teach that, but give it a go." - Henry Fogg

“Why do you think you were able to do that? Please tell me someone has pointed out to you that magic doesn't come from sunshine and ice cream, for any of us. What you're born with, what gets slammed on you as a kid, what happens now, like your dad... A great way to get what you want is to be so miserable that you don't want it anymore.” - Margo Hanson

Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy, also known as Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, Brakebills Preparatory College of Magic, Brakebills Academy for Magical Pedagogy, or simply Brakebills, is the premier institution for the study of magic in North America and one of two magical universities found in the United States of America.

Early History

Establishment

Brakebills University for Magical Pedagogy was established in Upstate New York in 1763 and became the standard-bearer of the American magical society, having given rise to generation after generation of illustrious Magicians. Using enchanted globes to find people with magical potential, the school evaluates all potential students with scouts before sending them an invitation to take the Entrance Exam and determine whether or not they qualify for enrollment. Though the wards surrounding the school keep it hidden from civilians, some have been known to make their way through the forest and onto campus grounds.

By the 1920s Brakebills taught English and American magic almost exclusively, and as such, lacked a diverse student body until a vogue for multicultural spellcasting swept the school in the '30s and '40s, and the school imported professors from all around, including Dean Mayakovsky and Professor Neeny Bigby, a Pixie. The school recruited skirt-wearing shamans from Micronesian dot-islands; hunch-shouldered, hookah-puffing wizards from inner-city Cairo coffeehouses; and blue-faced Tuareg necromancers from southern Morocco.

Banning Battle Magic

In 1879, Brakebills provided training in Battle Magic to its students, and Professor Neeny Bigby led the course during World War II, when Rupert Chatwin attended the school after he was discharged from the war due to his injuries. Neeny Bigby taught Chatwin how to cast the Rhinemann Ultra, a powerful spell that required the strength of a Master Magician to cast, which Chatwin used to win the Battle of the Bulge in 1945 for the Allied Powers. However, due to the high amount of student deaths in the 1970s, the course was banned by the Brakebills Board of Trustees, and Neeny Bigby was fired from the school. Prior to leaving, however, Neeny Bigby left clues in the school's library for how to find her in the future when a Brakebills student would need her help.

Current Day

Brakebills University has seen a change in administration and in philosophy over the last few years with the events of recent years.  Magic has gone out and come back with rumors of it being tied to the same individuals both times.  Dean Fogg stepped down after much of the trouble as the board had lost some confidence in him despite some ardent supporters among the staff and students.  Though after stepping down, he and a number of his former students have become controversial figures in the magical community. They were the first to point out the growing community of hedge witches who were organizing after a number of incidents in their community.  The fear of unrest between them and trained magicians has prompted efforts of outreach to hedges, which the university has implemented in the last few years.

It is determined a more concerted effort by the University to build relations with the hedge witches is needed.  Brakbills with the help of board members create a town, New Haven, in the area under the protection of the university where trained mages and hedges can mingle and learn to understand each other better. Hedges will not be allowed on campus without special permission and watched by security nor will the be trained formally, it is a simple community outreach program only.  At least officially though some mages may take it upon themselves to further instruct hedges, though if it became known it may lead to disciplinary matters.

A great many things have happened in the years since the Beast first attacked Brakbills and the upheaval has opened a great many parties looking to capitalize on the weakness of the magicians left.  After much consideration, battle magic has been added back into the curriculum though only the practice of L’encerclement* is introduced to first years before far deadlier magics are introduced in later years.  The decision has created some controversy among the board but the majority backed the new Dean’s decision to update the curriculum to include Battle Magic and other traditions.

Although things seemed to have settled over the last few years, a number of reports have come to the administration about gathering resentment among certain sect of hedges and trained magicians.  A resentment that is being fanned with unknown parties working to organize this distrust into a unified faction for unknown reason.  The importance of places like Brakbills seems at a new high as machinations slowly move in other places of the world.

The Magicians: Legacy is a group game inspired by the TV show The Magicians, and to a lesser extent the book series, but knowledge of the show isn’t necessary.  It is a sandbox game set in and around the Brakebills University campus in upstate New York, with some happenings in NYC and other areas since travel is a bit easier in the magical community.  The university in the series is more like a post graduate school so most characters are in their 20s and may, or may not, have already gone to regular college before being invited to take the entrance exam.  While Fillory, think The Chronicles of Narnia, is a big part of the series, the group game would be around the university and perhaps down the road a rebuilt Fillory could be introduced.

So to start, the game would be looking for writers to play students and faculty at the university.  It would be a true sandbox where people can tell their own stories as they see fit, though I would want to introduce some metaplots as the game goes on.  The game is open to all writers playing characters of all genders, sexualities and backgrounds. It is intended to be a kink positive game, with consensual relationships of all forms encouraged.  In addition, we will be using real life face claims, for reference.

Ok, I looks like we have enough interest to push ahead to recruiting and starting things up.  The game would be open to not only Students and Faculty but there is a nearby city where a number of hedge witches have taken up residence.  Information on that as well as general lore for those not familiar or needing a refresher can be found in the link below.

The game would be following the show and just maybe filling in gaps using the novels, because the show and books are quite different.

And totally fine, the show is just mainly providing the framework for the lore I'll post so really people don't need to know much other than, do cool things with your fingers and make magic. LOL

Good to know.  I don’t plan to read the books anyway until I can hear well enough again for audiobooks.

I have a world building thread here that has all the 'schools' listed and goes over a bit of the lore, I was waiting to post it in the main thread until I saw enough interest to take it to recruiting and write up a character sheet, rules, FAQ, ect.

Name: Kadir ‘Tabar’ Akkaya

Gender/Sexuality : Male/Sapiosexual

Age: 31 / July 17th

Birthplace: Istanbul, Türkiye

Year: NA

Occupation: Head of Security/L’encerclement Instructor

Magical Discipline: Physical

Physical Appearance: 6'2", 178lbs

Personality Traits: Sensual | Intellectual | Private | Thoughtful | Loyal | Cynical | Determined

Brief History:
Born in Istanbul, Kadir grew up in a family of ignorant of the magical world, his father working for a technology firm while his mother worked at her parent’s bakery.  He was happy to have an older brother who looked after him and, soon enough, a younger sister for himself to look after as the other brother.  As a student, he excelled at his studies when he applied himself but he often found himself getting distracted all too easily, enjoying learning from life as much from school.  His parents tried to be patient with him but it was his brother who kept him on the straight and narrow, pushing him to apply himself more to school and his studies.

It was in 2008 that he kept prodding his older brother to take him shopping for a gift for his mother, wanting to show her he was becoming a responsible man able to do it all on his own.  But it would become a memory that lived forever in his memory as a commotion caught his brother’s attention.  His brother ran ahead of him to see what was going on as Kadir trailed behind arriving in time to watch the exploding flare in his eyes, sharpened and debris pounding against him as the shockwave knocked him over.  In the hospital, he’d learn his brother had been killed in the initial blast but he had thankfully been far enough away from it to be in decent shape, just some minor injuries he would recover from quickly.  Although Kurdish separatist militants were suspected, no one was ever arrested or paid for the crime that took his brothers life.

The young man would recover physically but mentally he was struggling, suffering from PTSD and survivor guilt in the aftermath.  It was in this dark time that he had begun to realize he was feeling different, something off with the world.  Able to graduate, he was surprised when he received a letter to attend a university that he’d never applied too, finding himself being tested despite not having any money to offer.  It was here that he learned magic was real and that he had an aptitude for it.  At first, he was angry that such a thing existed but with such power they allowed the tragedy of his brother’s death and others to happen.  Angry, he tried to devour all what he could to learn magic that would serve the world and stop such evil from ever happening.

But while in University, he discovered a mentor who was willing to work with such a firery student, goad him to an understanding of the world and of magic.  He began to see just what a futile idea it was, that there was a balance to the world and what he wanted would mean taking away things from others.  He hated it, but the fire in him cooled a bit so instead he began to learn combat magic and other skills he could ensure those he cared about would always be safe under his care.  After graduation, he used his magic to gather enough resources to form a Private Military Company dedicated to protecting resources and supplies to those in need, willing to be the shield for those in need.  He’s also extended his care to magical families, making connections, to help cement his role and broaden the scope of his company.

Spending much of his off time learning various martial arts and martial ways around the world, he has continued to perfect how he used his magic in combat and combining it with other martial means.  With the recent reorganization at Brakebills, and the want to make combat magic teachable again, he has joined the staff as their combat magic expert as well as ensuring better campus security

What are the goals of your character both short and long term. Work? Family? Etc
Short Term: To teach students the responsibilities and care that is needed when using combat magic and further their full understanding of their magic capabilities.
Long Term: To better harness his magic and combine it into a new martial arts form for the community.

Likes: Puzzles, reading, cigars, luxury, exercise, fast cars,
Dislikes: Stupidity and ignorance, Immaturity, Clinginess, Doormats,

Family & Friends:

Name: Callum Toussaint

Gender/Sexuality : Male/Pansexual

Age: 21 / March 10th

Birthplace: Boston, Massachusetts

Year: Second Year

Occupation: Student/Guitarist/Drug Dealer

Magical Discipline: Natural Magic

Physical Appearance: Born with curly, bushy hair, it was the bane of his existence growing up, constantly being teased about it and his freckles.  But at some point, he began to enjoy not fitting in a mold, embracing a more rocker sensibility in his clothing with touches of what some would call feminine accents.  If he’s going out, he prefers to put his best effort into things but doesn’t mind dressing down and being comfy when he’s at home.

Personality Traits: Careful | Cynical | Foulmouthed | Confident | Spontaneous | Cunning | Spiteful

Brief History:
Born in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Callum only has vague memories of his father who left the family years ago.  Growing up, he got used to living as a latchkey kid with his mother working two and three jobs at some points in their life, insisting on sending him to a Catholic school as he got older.  The bullying he had received in public school never really changed once he got into parochial school, in part from him not liking conforming.  It set him down a hard road that he know put him near the edge, not sure what he would have done if things hadn’t changed drastically in his life.  And change would come, but it would not be something he would ever have wanted too see invited into his family’s life.

It was in this time his mother told him about her cancer diagnosis, indicating she was going to fight as best as she could, but knowing it was not promising.  Going with his mother to chemo, seeing her try and put on a brave face even though financial and personal trouble was weighing heavy on her.  He felt something break inside of him in that time, a part of him growing cold and angry at the world.  Taking shelter in music, he lost himself in the rhythm and lyrics, finally picking up the guitar his father had left behind.  It was old and it took a bit to get it tuned, but he began to self-teach himself, taking any guidance he could get.  It was also during this point that he fell in with a bad lot, finding a girl he had gotten interested in, though he still prioritized being there for his mom.

Surprisingly, the cancer went into remission and his mother tried to get back into the swing of normal life, but medical bills suddenly were crushing them.  It was during a session bitching about the cost of things with his new friends that one suggested a way of getting some money, dealing to all those well-off kids in school.  They didn’t know how to score anything decent for fear of mugging, and for some reason he didn’t really care about these people, so he was in on it.  Hooked up with a supplier, he began to deal at school while keeping himself under the radar, too cunning to let anything ever come onto him.  It was the only reason he really went to school in the end as his grades were abysmal, certainly not looking at college.

He was working on the streets and the few gigs he could sell at of friends, still working on getting his own band together, when the invitation came surprisingly.  Ignoring it, he was surprised when taking a shortcut through an alley ended up in upstate New York to be greeted and pushed along to test.  The process would be eye-opening learning there was magic in the world, and he had a capacity for it.

What are the goals of your character both short and long term. Work? Family? Etc

Not especially.  It's pretty open though like a mix of those clueless about the magical world and those who come from families of mages would be good.

Though I should point out, hedges are a possibility as well.  Skewing a bit from the TV show, I do plan on having a local town where a number of hedges have set up shop as there is a project with the university to try and reduce the enmity between the two factions.  It's actually inspired by one of the Magicians comic books I read.  So there will be hedges involved just not on campus.  It may offer second character opportunities for people at least.

Gender/Sexuality : Female | Demisexual/Polyamorous

Age: 22 | October 25th

Birthplace: Baltimore MD

Year: 2nd

Occupation: Seamstress | Beat Poet | Dance Teacher

Magical Discipline: Physical

Physical Appearance: Geneva is a sprite of a woman at barely 4'11" and weighing a tiny 100 pounds. Her hair is a wild mess of curls and adds at least three inches to her total height, though she'll deny it if you ask. Unmarked by tattoos, she has a sunburst-shaped scar on both hands from an accident a few years prior. Her clothing choices are only limited by her imagination though she tends toward demure and feminine. She's heard that she should wear heels to give herself some stature, but she refuses as she hates shoes and avoids them whenever possible.

Personality Traits:

  • Assertive: Geneva has no problem explaining what she needs, why she needs it, and what she expects from others. She is clear, sets concise boundaries, and refuses to allow people to turn her into a doormat.
  • Creative: Gen sees the world through the lens of an artist. Her ability to problem solve and innovate is only limited by her imagination, and she will quickly arrive at a solution that often makes no sense to others.
  • Empathetic: She is attuned to the emotions of those around her and is a skilled listener and supportive friend.
  • Resilient: Gen maintains a positive outlook, learns from failure, and emerges stronger from difficult situations.
  • Self-Aware: Geneva understands her strengths, weaknesses, and motivations. This means that she is in a constant state of change as those things warp and change.

Brief History: Geneva is the product of a mixed marriage and the eldest child. Always a little wilder than her sister, Geneva was in trouble far more often than she should have been and could not figure out why. Her mother encouraged her love of dance and started her in classes VERY young as a way to channel her energy into something productive. As Gen grew older, she discovered poetry and used those words to channel her angst and rage at a world that didn't seem to understand her.

By the time she graduated from Baltimore School for the Arts, Geneva was well on her way to being placed in a fairly popular dance troupe and beginning her lifelong obsession with design. It was then, at only age 18, that her life changed. As her mother was taking her to a final audition before placement, their vehicle was hit in a head-on collision, resulting in her mom's death. She doesn't recall the accident, only that she awakened in a hospital with burns on the palms of her hands and only her little sister at her side.

Deep in his grief, her father blamed her for his wife's death. So, once Gen was released from the hospital, she left home, packing only the essentials and spending the next two years traveling. Just before her 20th birthday, while investigating a small bookstore in NYC's Greenwich Village, Geneva found herself somehow, elsewhere. She was offered a chance to test for a school of magic called Brakebills. Of course, she was sure they were LYING, but she tried anyway and was accepted.

Maybe this is where she belongs?

What are your character's goals both short and long-term? Short term? Geneva would like to finally get a handle on the magic she calls her own. Long-term? That's obvious! Combine her love of dance and poetry to become the world's first hip-hop dancer to perform spoken word while dancing! Okay, maybe not obvious. Honestly, she doesn't have long-term goals unless one counts surviving and developing enough that she can make a difference in the world.

Kakihara, looks great and with a great bunch!

Please reserve Dave Franco and Asa Butterfield for me.  I’ve got some figuring out to do on my own for Disciplines…

For Instructors, are they by Discipline, or should I keep vague and say “Staff” for now?

I've been having a heck of a time just settling on a FC for this.

But can I please reserve Dianna Agron and Mimi Keene? Thinking of making Dianna a teacher and Mimi a student. But I still need to figure out disciplines and all that. xD

Most Instructors are based on their Discipline though there are other staff beyond instructors, Administration, Maintenance, Food Staff, Security, Health Staff.  Now some may have dual jobs, like the Head of Security also teaches dueling/combat spells.  There may even be room for a Librarian who may or may not be a liaison between the school and the Library of the Neitherlands.

Age: 22 | October 25th

Birthplace: Baltimore MD

Clancy Fury

Foxy DeVille

Everyone loves a bad girl. And a bad boy. And a bad those who lie betwixt...

Name: Artemis/Artemus d’Eon

Gender/Sexuality : Fluid/Omni

Age: 24 / February 16

Birthplace: Kentville, Nova Scotia

Year: Expelled

Occupation: Financial Analyst

Magical Discipline: Knowledge/Horomancy

Physical Appearance: Generally speaking, d’Eon is a slim brunette standing just under five foot eleven. They prefer well-tailored clothes in solid colors. Due to their magically fluid nature, d’Eon’s body can fluctuate quite a bit. Hair, complexion, and build, although they still present as either androgynous or feminine. No matter what their physical form, d’Eon always has a tattoo of a moon on one wrist and an air of cool aloofness. Their Nova Scotian accent sounds a bit Gaelic, leading some to think d’Eon comes from the other side of the pond.

Personality Traits: Hedonistic | Bold | Accepting | Materialistic | Vain | Sultry | Manipulative | Creative | Vindictive

Brief History:
While growing up an androgynous math prodigy in rural eastern Canada had some less-than-ideal moments, it wasn’t nearly the hellhole d’Eon makes it out to be. They simply couldn’t wait to get off the farm and into the big city. This happened at age seventeen when they started attending Columbia University. Four years later they had a degree in applied physics, a new name courtesy of New York’s ballroom scene, and a well-developed taste for decadence. Further educational plans took an interesting turn when waking up in a strange place after a night of debauchery resulted in taking the entrance exam and being admitted to Brakebills, a school of magicians.

Proving to be an exceptional if impatient student, d’Eon embraces the idea that all magic is science unexplained and applied their knowledge of physics to magecraft. This led to an interest in the new discipline of horomancy and the work of the Kikunos. Alas for d’Eon, their experiments using the banned substance cinnabar resulted in expulsion. Stripped of their memories and magic, d’Eon settled into a mundane existence at accounting firm Plaxco crunching numbers.

As it turns out the past d’Eon had known the dangers of their actions and planned a contingency. Detailed notes of their time at Brakebills along with some horomantic device were sent into the future. The present d’Eon was able to use this knowledge along with a Stoppard Cube to tap into the magical energy of their counterparts for other timelines. This resulted in regaining their lost power, albeit with the side effect of having a body that would shift to resemble those of alternate d’Eons.

In order to gain experience with their regained magic, d’Eon engaged in criminal activity. This caught the attention of none other than Ronan Blake, CEO of the umbrella corporation that owned their employer Plaxco. Recognizing the work of a magician, he recruited d’Eon into his circle of magicians as well as setting them up with a pretty sweet financial analyst gig at Vocatus. Now d’Eon works to further Blake’s agenda as well as their own… teaching Brakebills what a dire mistake they made.

What are the goals of your character both short and long term. Work? Family? Etc
Short term: Making a lot of money and leading a life of pleasure.
Long term: Revenge against Brakebills for their expulsion and proving how great a magician they are.

Likes: Attention, Exploring New York City, Dance clubs, Mediterranean cuisine, Fashion, Cosmetics, Britpop, Fruity cocktails, Party drugs, James Bond media, Vintage Playboy magazines, French erotica, 1960s movies, Swimming and sunbathing (sometimes nude)
Dislikes: Prejudice, Modest clothing, Chasers, Boredom, Being underestimated, Being outsmarted, Cooking, Lame jokes about Canada, Sports, Personal questions

Family & Friends:
Robert Belding - Father
Kristi Belding - Mother (Deceased)
House of d’Eon - New York “Family”
Ronan Blake - Employer

Face Claim: Siobhan Atwell

On's and Off's: An aromantic omnisexual, d’Eon can be either a bratty bottom or a pleasure dom(me).

Ons: Exhibitionism, Breast and Nipple play (B), Outdoor sex, Voyeurism, Orgies, Rough sex, Gangbangs, Anal sex, Oral sex, Rimming, Dirty talk, Spanking, Light BDSM

To Explore: Being filmed, Breathplay, Slapping, Extreme BDSM, Whipping, Electroplay, Verbal abuse, Humiliation, Branding and Body Writing, Breast and Nipple torture, Gaping, Fisting, Needles, Knifeplay, Hair pulling, Suspension, Watersports, Bukkake, Facefucking and Deepthroating

Offs: Scat, Pregnancy, Transphobic slurs and fetish terms, Vore, Vomit

Extra: “Artemis” is the spelling they usually use, sometimes while presenting as male they use “Artemus.” While “they” pronouns are used in this profile, d’Eon is quite comfortable with a mix of “he” or “she” ones.

I've updated the links on the first page with the character sheet thread as well as a link to the OCC thread.  I'm placing the game in the NC section just for the spirit of the show, I don't plan on pushing NC stuff on a GM level but if players wish too.  I'm also going to implement a header with Trigger Warning section to be helpful for people to warn them if a post ventures into such topics.

Actually, I was thinking to make my character come from a prestigious magical family. Is that something I could do, or not permissible?
Oh dang, totally thought I answered this, my bad for trying to multitask responses. lol  Yeah that's totally doable.  In the Magician's world there are those who the magical world is totally unknown too and then there are families who are completely magical legacies.  For instance one of the main TV Show characters was Alice Quinn who's family has a big reputation among the magical community.  There area  number of others that come up over the seasons as well.  So it's totally permissible and makes sense.

I’ve been thinking about this game but no ideas are coming.  I just wanted to chime in to say that it’s more that my RL is in shambles right now and it’s nothing that anyone else did wrong.  Figured it’s kinder to post this than to just disappear.

An idea may yet come; I just have doubts it will.
It's all good, and it's all in fun.  Now get in the pit and try to love someone.

Here is what I have for my student... Please let me know if I should edit/alter anything at all! :>

Brooke Bancroft

Name: Brooke Bancroft

Gender/Sexuality: Female / Heterosexual

Age: 21 / November 13, 2001

Birthplace: Hertfordshire, United Kingdom

Year: Senior

Occupation: Barista outside of Brakebills, somewhere in Upstate New York (she tries to keep it a secret that she has a job)

Magical Discipline: Psychic / Dream Manipulation & Precognition

Physical Appearance: Brooke has long, shiny brown hair which is typically worn down, either curled, wavy, or straight. She has an olive complexion and caramel colored eyes. Her body shape is curvaceous, despite her only reaching 5'4 in height. Her lashes are naturally long and her lips are naturally plump. She tends to wear makeup that makes her face look dewy and shiny in the best of ways. Her nails are always perfectly manicured and polished. She's constantly sporting the trendy fashions and expensive brands.

Personality Traits: Snobbish, Materialistic, Self-confident (outwardly), Insecure (internally), Secretive

Brief History: Despite her oftentimes unpleasant exterior, there is a bit more to Brooke than meets the eye. She has always been someone who comes across as being popular, not due to being well liked, but due to her status. She typically has the nicest and most expensive brand name or designer products, and has no issue flaunting them. Yet, it is a delicate balance, because not all things are as they appear. In order to spare her reputation, Brooke may sometimes be secretive or outright lie to others. It's all with the intention of preserving herself and her family name; an issue of pride because she would hate to lose her self-made status.

Ever since she was a child, she knew that she was a little different. Whenever she had a strange and particularly vivid dream, she'd tell her parents, who would brush it off when she was a child. They claimed she had a very vivid and active imagination. However, as she aged and the dreams became more peculiar, they could no longer deny that it was very odd. Eventually, she was reached out about Brakebills University and after passing the initial exam with a demonstration of dream manipulation, she realized that her abilities were a gift. Unfortunately, that gift was one she couldn't share with her parents. At least not without getting express permission from the University.

After years of having to lie to her parents, she felt that it may have been best to keep her two worlds separated. In fact, there were many things about her life that she tried to compartmentalize because merging her worlds seemed much too complicated. So, what might happen when this year, she is forced to do just that?

What are the goals of your character both short and long term. Work? Family? Etc
I have a plan to create character development for Brooke. I would like to have her experience being vulnerable and sharing that vulnerability with someone who makes her feel safe. I'd also like it, if possible, to work something out where there's a potential that magic being around is in some way contributing to her father's illness. Should there ever be a time when magic is 'gone,' it would be amazing to have her dad feel like he's suddenly healed, only for magic to 'return,' which causes his illness to also return. It would be wonderful to have her question the worth of magic, when it also has such unthinkable consequences; a conflict that would exist between her and magic itself.

Likes: Brand name and designer products, being at the best parties, getting all the attention
Dislikes: Hearing others chewing, burping, slurping, and breathing loudly, being kept waiting, not getting her way

Family & Friends:
Father - Bradley Bancroft - 55 - Bedridden with an early diagnoses of Parkinson's Disease. He was first diagnosed at age 50 and rapidly declined.
Mother - Penelope Bancroft - 50 - Works as a nurse at an Upstate New York Hospital. Picks up multiple shifts often in order to make ends meet. Works at home with her husband as his personal bedside nurse.
Paternal Grandmother - Ester Bancroft - Deceased - She had been well cared for in her last years of life, but the death of her grandmother had affected Brooke a lot in her first year of University. She passed away the summer before Brooke started at University, and it nearly kept Brooke from attending at all.
Extended family - All other family still lives in the UK, or are not considered to be as close-knit as the family mentioned.

Face Claim: Mimi Keene

On's and Off's:
Ons - Attention, Casual sex, Validation, Cheap cologne, Risky sex, Public sex, Rough sex, Multiple orgasms, Oral sex, Quickies, Clothed sex, Passionate sex
Offs - Threesomes or Moresomes, Bondage, Non-con & Dub-con, Infantilism, Humiliation, Spit, Abuse, Permanent markings

Character looks great.  Approved.  Feel free to put her sheet up.

Also you mentioned her being a Barista outside of the school, I do plan on having a neighboring town that has connections to the school called Briarwood where there are a number of Hedge Witches so may be a place for her.  It's kind of the place where most student and faculty go if they aren't going to NYC on the weekends.  I mentioned it briefly in the current timeline write up but really do need to do a write up of the town as well here.

Occupation: Dishwasher - Pub in Briarwood

Magical Discipline: Illusions

Physical Appearance: Albie is 6’2” tall, and weighs around 180lbs, which gives him a lean lanky look just this side of skinny.  Albie dresses very frugally considering his upbringing, and finds shopping for new clothes to be ridiculous when there are perfectly good finds at thrift stores everywhere.  Albie is usually clean shaven, but at times forgets and gets a little wispy scruff.

Personality Traits:
Clever - Albie does well with many subjects, when he puts his mind to it.  He almost could have been a Knowledge discipline, but he is often distracted as well.

Awkward - Albie struggles in positive social situations like parties and dating.  He likes the thought of such things, and definitely tries, but usually mucks it up.

Meek - Albie will attempt to avoid confrontation at all costs. He is just not cut out to be a hero, or a fighter.  While he gets as mad as anyone else, he would prefer to channel that into turning the other cheek and leaving the situation.

Principled - Albie believes your word in the most important thing you have.  He would never betray another’s confidence or share a secret.  If he makes a commitment, he’d kill himself trying rather than fail to meet up to it.

Frugal - Having always been floating just above poverty, Albie can stretch a little money a long way.

Brief History:
Albie grew up as the only child of his parents George and Kaite Newdegate.  A rather happy home, with his father a lorry driver and his mother an estate agent, Albie was not poor but decidedly middle class.  Still, he had plenty of friends around the neighborhood, and if a few things had gone strange around him, it was all put down to coincidence.

When Albie was six, his father was in a terrible accident, and while he held on for a few days, he eventually passed away in hospital.  Albie does not remember much of this time.  He remembers spending time in the hospital, and his mother and aunts sending away to visit the gift shop, with tears in their eyes, while they talked to doctors and made hard decisions.

With his Dad gone, things got much harder on the Newdegate’s, with Albie’s mother working herself to the bone just to keep them clothed and fed, and while he might have turned to a bad group of friends, especially considering where they lived, Albie did all he could to be good, helping around the house and just trying to be self sufficient and as little a burden as possible.

After a year or two, things in the UK became too tough, and Albie and his mother came to the US to live with her cousin.   Albie adjusted somewhat well, finishing American high school without trouble and taking his first job waiting tables.  It was here that Albie’s “troubles” began.  It would seem sometimes that when he stood too still, or faded back, that people just wouldn’t see him.  Then when he’d move, he’d startle people.

Thinking he was just one of those people who were ‘invisible’ in life, it was not until a member of Brakebills University found him and explained that this was latent Illusion Magic that he really understood.  Leaping into the University with both feet, Albie finds it all still fascinating after four years, and will gladly look into any type of magical display he can.

What are the goals of your character both short and long term. Work? Family? Etc
Albie would love to learn true Invisibility, and Mirror Magic.  He feels there is a secret world there just waiting to be tapped.
He also secretly harbors a desire to learn to fly (assisted likely) but has never told anyone that

Likes: Reading, Fireplaces, Hot Chocolate, thunderstorms, pets
Dislikes: Confrontation, Public speaking, spiders, peer pressure, exercise

Family & Friends:
George Newdegate - Father - deceased
Katie Newdegate - Mother
Alicia Doyle - Aunt (Mother lives with her)

Friends: to be added later

Character looks great.  Approved.  Feel free to put her sheet up.

Also you mentioned her being a Barista outside of the school, I do plan on having a neighboring town that has connections to the school called Briarwood where there are a number of Hedge Witches so may be a place for her.  It's kind of the place where most student and faculty go if they aren't going to NYC on the weekends.  I mentioned it briefly in the current timeline write up but really do need to do a write up of the town as well here.

Thank you! I'll get her posted up!

As far as the Barista thing goes, I think that because Brooke wants to keep her job a secret (since rich people should not need jobs, in her opinion), she would avoid the places that are heavily populated by other Magicians, on the chance someone might recognize her there, lol. Of course, if it's easier, I can just have her work in Briarwood and hide when someone comes into the coffee place she works at!

Here is what I came up with for a Professor. Please let me know if any of this needs to be edited/altered! :>

Sloan Ashley

Name: Sloan Ashley

Gender/Sexuality : Female / Heterosexual

Age: 33 / August 22nd, 1990

Birthplace: Saratoga Falls, New York

Year: Graduated Alumni

Occupation: Illusion Professor

Magical Discipline: Illusion / Mirror Magic & Vertigo Induction

Physical Appearance: Sloan's eyes are haze, shifting from a vibrant shade of almond brown, to a forest green, particularly in the sunlight. She stands at 5'6, with a pear shaped body and feminine curves. Her complexion is not unlike that of a porcelain doll, and her skin tone is much the same. She has subtle dimples that show up when she smiles and her high cheekbones and pointed nose are dusted with freckles, often covered by makeup. Her hair is bleached blonde, with natural brown roots visible most of the time. Most often her hair is kept long enough to be curtained around her shoulders.

Personality Traits: Charismatic | Dramatic | Impulsive | Outgoing | Competitive

Brief History: Sloan and Shawn grew up together, but spent most of their younger years being raised by their live-in nanny. Their parents were too busy to be parents on most days which created a strained relationship for them all. They were more than happy to leave cash and write checks when their kids needed something though, as if money might be the answer to all of an adolescent's problems. Though their home life was unfortunate, it did bring the sibling closer together. When the day came that they both stumbled into Brakebills University, they were so hopeful for the future and what it could bring, with magic included. Unfortunately, Shawn failed the exam and his memory was wiped clean about Brakebills. Sloan was given permission to tell him the truth after requesting it, but Shawn only grew more depressed, leaving Sloan to wonder if it would have been better to leave him in the dark.

She learned about her abilities and how to harness them on campus. Before acceptance into Brakebills, she had no inkling of any magic ability whatsoever. A skeptic of sorts, she was always able to convince herself that whatever she thought she saw in the mirror wasn't really there, or that an image she thought she saw was no more than a mere hallucination or mirage. Not only that, but even without practice, she noticed a pattern of others saying they felt 'dizzy' when they were in her presence. Thankful for her competitive years at Brakebills, she couldn't fathom returning to regular life and immediately requested an internship with the school. Once a position as a professor opened, she jumped on it and now teaches the very magical skill she possesses. There is always more to learn and she finds that even as she teaches her students, she is still constantly challenged and ever learning. This is her third year as a professor, after choosing to take a few post-graduate courses on education.

What are the goals of your character both short and long term. Work? Family? Etc
Sloan may be a mostly developed character, but there is a lot of room for growth in her relationships. There may be some work for her to do in terms of getting onto speaking terms with her parents, who she essentially cut off ever since she became an adult and went to therapy, where she learned that what happened to her during childhood was not okay. She has an issue with abandonment, which makes sense given her past, and is something that she will struggle to overcome during her arc. She also has an unhealthy relationship with being a perfectionist. As a child, she was convinced that if she did well enough in some area of her life, her parents would pay more attention to her. This has led to a complicated relationship with a multitude of things in her life (prioritization, time management, making mistakes). Finding a way to get her to overcome or at least face some of these issues head-on would be really great.

Likes: Winning, Creating illusions, Surprising others, Female empowerment, Singing
Dislikes: Being forgotten, Being ignored, Rejection, Failing, Losing

Family & Friends:
Parents - Everleigh and Weylin Ashley are well known among the elite. They are wealthy beyond measure due to their individual success. Weylin is a renowned film director who has adapted countless beloved book series into well known films, and Everleigh is the actress he most often chooses to play the leading lady. They first met on a set when she auditioned for a minor role. He was so enamored that he convinced her and everyone on set that she was the next biggest star. Thanks to his movie magic, he was right. The two have been so busy with movies, premieres, fundraising, and other socialite events, that they barely had time for their children.
Little brother - Shawn Ashley tried to make it at Brakebills, but he failed the initial examination and fell into a downward spiral of depression afterward. He still lives in New York, his dreams of becoming a Magician squashed. He currently spends most of his time at the writing table for his father's scripts.

Face Claim: Dianna Agron

On's and Off's: Vanilla sex; hasn't experienced much beyond that

Extra: Sloan does not sing professionally, but only sings to herself and when she is alone to keep it from getting too quiet. Her singing voice sounds like this.

Mellific explained to me that my lack of Magician knowledge about the books and show (I've only seen season one) shouldn't be a huge issue as long as I read up on the lore in the World Building thread, so here I am~

*waves at Mel*

Question: I'm working on a character whose disciple is healing. As a fourth year, would they be working in the clinic at Brakebills already? Or is that all students with healing magic study from year one?

Welcome.  Yeah, knowing the series and books isn't necessary at all.  The lore is there that might be needed along with some vids even just because the hand movement is sweet. lol

Well, the Infirmary is also the Healing Discipline's House so early year students are required to put in time at the clinic, though they can volunteer, other than for classes though all are considered on call for anything major, since they are living right there.  But later year students can earn extra credit towards graduation as like a lab work.

OK, I think I understand this a bit better now.
So while living there they do on-the-job training at the Infirmary from the first year and on.
But they can volunteer/work extra hours for extra credit?
Yet they also still take classes with the rest of the students at Brakebills.
If I'm way off base on this, my apologies.

No you are pretty much on point other than on the job training.  They really don't go into it on the show, like every Discipline has a house and the Healing Discipline's house includes the infirmary but I assume it's more like attached to it.  So the first years can volunteer to be like helpers, since most won't have a lot of experience, but it's more if they wish.  So if players want to rp with that it's ok.

And yes, no matter the discipline they are designated with, everyone goes through the same classes and learn a rounded magical capability, including now combat magic.  Discipline is more for sorting into their house so students are surrounded by alike people to improve themselves, since most learn outside of classes as well.

And here is my completed character sheet!

Audrey Charlotte Reagan

Name: Audrey Charlotte Reagan

Gender| Sexuality: Female | Hetero-flexible

Age: 22 Years Old | August 12th

Birthplace: Los Angeles, California

Year: 2nd Year

Occupation: Heiress

Magical Discipline: Psychic - Mainly Telepathy and Mind Control

Physical Appearance: 5'7" | 130 lbs | Dark Blonde Hair | Sapphire Blue Eyes

Personality Traits: Magnetic | Seductive | Dignified | Arrogant | Ambitious | Vain | Diva | Realistic | Manipulative

Brief History:

Born in a prestigious magical family, Audrey never really want for anything as she had known only to receive the very best of treatments and was dotted by her parents. Being the only daughter and the youngest of her family, she was brought up knowing she had to be the very best among the best within their society. Her father was very well known among his peers, let alone that their family was old money where they basically inherited their wealth from one generation to another —  but it didn't stop her family from breaking into investment firms and property management.

Everything seemed perfect at first — that was until her mother suddenly fell ill and was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer, chronic myeloid leukaemia, when Audrey was only just a teen. From then on, her life drastically changed — even more so when her brother had enough of his parents, especially when their father disapproved of him wanting to marry his long-term girlfriend whom their parents deemed unfit. Instead of confirming their parents' ideals, Francis left the household and the family to pursue his happiness while leaving his only little sister to fend for herself.

Since then, her father had solely focused on her and making sure she would be moulded into the perfect heiress to take over the family business and inherit the family fortune. Her mother was given the best medical care and facility, though her body had become frail, and she would tire quickly. Despite that, Audrey remained ever close to her and made sure to spend as much time as she could with her, especially when the whole family had known how her father couldn't help himself and slept with other women behind his dying wife's back. Even then, Audrey remained ever-poised and ever determined to make her parents proud, while also to ensure she would not be the same failure like her brother.

What are the goals of your character both short and long term. Work? Family? Etc
Short Term: To keep her popularity in check and making sure she keeps with her studies.
Long Term: Excelling in her field to harness and understand her magic better. Also to make sure her father will be proud and she will inherit the family's business like she was expected to do.

I understand, sometimes one has to waffle on the faceclaim before stumbling on the perfect one.  Approved.  Feel free to post in the character thread.

Also, just to note, I am working on a starting thread for orientation day, which most students would attend, as well as for all the various houses.  Also since we had enough I've submitted for a big group board which should help organizing better and easier.  And will also post up a calendar and all once that is done.

Alejandro Muñoz

Name: Alejandro Muñoz

Gender/Sexuality: Male/Heterosexual

Age: 24, February 14th

Birthplace: Madrid, Spain

Year: Second

Occupation: Waiter

Magical Discipline: Physical - Fire Manipulation

Physical Appearance: 5'10", 157 lbs, dark brown hair, light brown eyes

Personality Traits: Flirty | Passionate | Loud | Charismatic | Prideful | Possessive | Materialistic | Confrontational

Brief History:
Born to a lower class family who was just getting by, Alejandro always had his eyes to the moon, wishing for something more than what he had. He didn't like living the way he did and he certainly knew that living the rest of his live in what he considered complete squalor was out of the question; he needed everything.

So in order to earn money, he did plenty of odd jobs here and there until he was discovered by a talent scout who asked him to join his cabaret club. Alejandro was promised an extravagant wage and he accepted it on the spot. It was here that he used his natural charisma and talent for conversation, as well as his good looks, to entertain women.

Everything was going well until one night, the boyfriend of one of the women he was entertaining crashed into the club. The man was a notorious gangster and he didn't appreciate that his woman was going every night to see Alejandro. He had caught some rather spicy messages between the two and he went to deal with Alejandro himself. So a chase ensued and Alejandro ran for hours through the streets of Madrid. In the end, he was cornered and they started to beat him. Out of desperation, he felt something begin to burn inside of him and right before the boyfriend could deal the finishing blow with a crowbar he'd brought, Alejandro held his hand out and set him on fire. Amidst the panic and confusion, Alejandro managed to escape and return to his flat. He wasn't sure what happened.

The day after, a letter arrived at his front door. Inside it was a message written explaining that he was seen the night before and explained that the phenomenon that Alejandro experienced was indeed magic. Alejandro couldn't believe it at first, but continuing to read the message. It explained that there was a school that accepted people who could use magic from all over and they were taught how to hone their abilities. It was hard to believe but Alejandro knew that his life in Madrid was over after what he did, so he gathered all his belongings that could fit in a small suitcase and took the first plane out to The City That Never Sleeps.

Well, we are at big game status now just form the applications.  I'm working on getting some more stuff up as far as the calendar and rules here.  I'm going to open things up with an Orientation post for new students, and existing students to help them.  A party for staff and students will happen on that day, a sort of mingler along with any parents and patrons may be there.  Not required to post there but will be a way for some brushing of shoulders and such.

I'm debating about a social media thread, I know a lot like that.  n the books, cell phones and electronics are forbidden on campus or just plain don't work because the campus is encrusted with so many old spells.  They never really establish that in the TV show and with how things have changed, I feel like the restriction would have been.  Still, computers and cells may have issues in certain areas due to the residual spells so crystals may be needed in certain public areas to avoid them short circuiting. lol

Big Game Thread

Edit: Also I've asked Timeless to co-GM with me and totally not to take advantage of her graphical design skills and wonderful aesthetic choice... well not only because of that... >.>

A wild Hazel appears

Name: Hazel "Haze" Moore

Gender/Sexuality: cis-female -- heterosexual**

Age: 25 (August 13th)

Birthplace: Atlanta, Georgia

Year: Fourth Year

Occupation: Hazel loves to perform songs at open-mic events when not putting extra credit hours in at the Infirmary.

Magical Discipline: Healing Magic

Physical Appearance: Hazel stands slightly around average height at 5 ft. 7 in. She has an athletic but curvy build, and her hair is a dark brown--nearly black. Her eyes are also brown. She often likes to wear stylish and trendy clothes.

Personality Traits: Adaptable | Responsible | Detail-Oriented | Impatient | Callous | Overprotective | Collaborative

personality expanded
Adaptable: Hazel can quickly adjust her techniques and approaches to suit different people's needs in a dynamic magical environment.
Responsible: Haze takes her healing role seriously and is dedicated to fulfilling their responsibilities at the school.
Detail-Oriented: Precision is crucial in magic, and Hazel pays close attention to details to ensure the best results.
Impatient: In her desire to see quick results, Hazel often becomes frustrated when her magic doesn't show immediate improvement or results.
Callous/Lack of Empathy: Hazel sometimes struggles to understand or connect with other people's emotions.
Overprotective: On the flip side, Hazel sometimes becomes overly protective of other people's lives and safety, resulting in boundary issues and potential conflicts.
Collaborative: Hazel works well in a team, cooperating with other magical practitioners and sharing her knowledge to improve outcomes.

Brief History:
Hazel Moore grew up in a family of skilled healers where magic was an integral part of her life from a young age. Growing up, Haze was surrounded by stories of her ancestors' accomplishments, which set high expectations for her abilities. Hazel was expected to carry on the family legacy, leading her to develop a strong sense of responsibility from a young age. Her siblings Elena, Lucas, and Olvia also contributed to her competitive nature. Elena, the eldest sibling, is great at being nurturing and wise--sometimes offering guidance to Hazel. Lucas, the second sibling, is adventurous and outgoing but strives to branch out away from healing magic, focusing on physical magic. And Olivia, the third sibling, is knowledgeable in exorcisms and potions and has a more competitive attitude than Hazel. Olivia isn't the type of sister to share secrets or give guidance--often telling Hazel to find answers on her own. Haze is the youngest sibling.

In her free time, Hazel sings to help with her emotional expression since it's hard for her to convey her emotions otherwise. Singing allows Hazel to process her feelings and connect with her own emotions. In her early years at Brakebills, Hazel excelled in her studies due to her detail-oriented nature. However, this heightened her competitive streak and impatience with other students (and sometimes staff) who challenged her by being better than her--or those who couldn't keep up. Yet it wasn't always sunshine and rainbows, as Haze had a setback during her second year at Brakebills, a magical mishap that resulted in another student nearly losing their leg. Now she is often cautious, overprotective, and sometimes controlling regarding others' safety. As she continued her studies at Brakebills, Hazel witnessed how true collaboration and empathy could lead to more effective healing. Although she is getting better at sharing knowledge, she still struggles to connect with others on an emotional level--often looking at the injury first before understanding the person.

Character Goals:
🕊 To be one of the best healers in her areas of study--better than her sister Olivia.
🕊 To become more empathetic with others.
🕊 Developing new magical healing techniques that push the boundaries in her field.

Likes: Singing | Magical Research | Herbal Teas | Junk Food (guilty pleasure) | Moderate weather | Nature Walks | Yoga | Cooking (though she's not very good at it)
Dislikes: Unnecessary Drama | Spicy Foods | Freezing Temps. | Extreme Heat | Lack of Progress | Manipulative People

Family & Friends:
⛥ William Moore: father - 63 years old.
Eleanor Moore: mother - 56 years old. Deceased.
⛥ Elena Moore: eldest sister - 34 years old.
⛥ Lucas Moore: brother - 30 years old.
⛥ Olvia Moore: sister - 28 years old.

Face Claim: Saweetie (Diamonté Harper)

On's and Off's: Link to O/O's.

Extra:
🕯 Her affinity is Injury Treatment, but she also focuses on Curse Analysis.
🕯 **Throughout the story, Hazel learns she's actually pansexual.

Gender/Sexuality : Male / Heterosexual

Age: 41, October.

Birthplace: Kyoto, Japan.

Magical Discipline: Natural magic, weather manipulation.

Physical Appearance: At 6’ 1”, Koizumi is tall for a Japanese man. His dark black hair is chin length, layered, and his eyes are a deep, warm brown. He has a calm presence and demeanor that contradicts the power of the forces he can manipulate. Aki has a full body horimono in the kame no ko style with a munewari of empty skin down the center of his chest. The main motifs on his back are Fujin and Raijin, the gods of wind and thunder.

Personality Traits: Grounded | Confident | Trustworthy | Mysterious |Honorable | Spiritual | Patient

Brief History:
Koizumi comes from a family with a long line of magicians, most of whom were gifted in natural magic. In that regard, he’s something of a legacy. His father was a renowned master of herbal magics, and his mother was equally know for her ability in plant magic. They thought at first that he would follow in their footsteps, but the kami has other plans, instead gifting Koizumi with the ability to manipulate weather, like his great grandfather.

Born just outside of Kyoto, Koizumi was raised in a magical family that began his education in the arts early. He took them seriously, and worked hard to learn all he could and, once they began to manifest, to master his abilities.  His magical education went had in hand with a grounding in Shinto and Buddhism, and the martial arts, assisting him to become grounded, focused, patient and quite comfortable with his talents. With so much natural energy at his fingertips, a solid moral foundation and understanding of his place in the world is a necessity, a thing he tries to instill in his students.

When it became known that Brakebills was in need of a natural magic professor, Koizumi’s father recommended him for the position, knowing of his son’s desire to experience the weather of various locations. He agreed and left Japan, promising to return, and has since been using his time as the school to learn as much as he can about the local variations in weather. He also has a keen interest in the hedge witches, and what knowledge they might possess about the spirits of the land he now finds himself in.

What are the goals of your character both short and long term. Work? Family? Etc.
Koizumi believes that in order to call the forces of the weather, he must get to know the kami of a specific region, and so wants to travel to as many places as he can over the course of his life. Eventually, he plans to return home to Japan, to take up the mantle as head of his family, settling where the kami call him.

>3> I couldn't resist...

Qin Heng Shirong

Name: Qin Heng Shirong

Gender | Sexuality: Male | Demisexual

Age: 35 Years Old | 23rd March

Birthplace: Hong Kong

Year: N/A

Occupation: Professor

Magical Discipline: Knowledge - Meta-Composition and Circumstantial Prognostication

Physical Appearance: 6'1" | 165 lbs (75 KG) | Black Hair | Dark Brown Eyes

Personality Traits: Intelligent | Observant | Perfectionist | Cynical | Reserved | Stoic | Blunt

Right off the bat, people who first met with Shirong would think he's an unlikable, sarcastic bastard with a flair of self-importance. And truly, none can really fault them for thinking like so, especially when the Asian man tends to keep to himself and he likes his solitude. Sarcasm comes to him as natural as he takes his breath of air and it doesn't help that sarcasm is his joy. He can be extremely blunt with his words without giving a second thought, mainly when he wants to give someone a piece of his mind. Sometimes people would even think on how he can be such an emotionless bastard, especially when he could be quite unsympathetic at times.

Nonetheless, if someone gets to know the man longer and even tolerate his sarcasm and stoicness, the Chinese man can prove to be a very interesting company. Perhaps it trailed from his Asian roots, but Shirong had always been a very intelligent young man, proven in his speech and mannerisms. He was that one person who would prioritize his studies, first of all, out of everything, and even until now, he is constantly researching and learning to improve on his skills and widen his knowledge. Also, Shirong is loyal to the people he calls his close friends and wouldn't mind offering assistance if they were in trouble. Other than that, he does have a conscience (as much as it surprised people) in that he couldn't refuse on helping someone who looked like they were in a dire situation. Other than that, Shirong tends to keep some things to himself despite having a few close friends. It's not because he doesn't trust them, but there are times when he just felt he could endure by himself and with his own strength — even if that may not be the case.

Brief History:
Shirong was originally born in Hong Kong as the only child by his Malaysian Chinese mother and Taiwanese father. His early childhood was filled with his family having to move to different countries because of his father's job; moving from Hong Kong to Indonesia, then Singapore and even to Malaysia. Because of his family moving so very often, Shirong never really made a place for himself during his early childhood and he already noticed on how his family was breaking apart from the pressure. Eventually, his parents filed a divorce when he turned ten years old and his parents shared custody with him.

After the divorce was finalized, his mother made a huge decision to move to USA as she wanted to pursue her PhD in business. Apparently, he had relatives in the States, so it was rather convenient for her mother and himself. They moved into New Orleans and it was the first for Shirong for him to ever feel settled in one location. Truthfully, he had found a lot of difficulties to fit in especially during his middle school years. It became a little worse when people started to bully him because of his race along with his appearance and how he tends to keep to himself. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Shirong was actually visiting his father back in Hong Kong when it happened. He quickly returned with his father accompanying him, only to find that his mother was one of the missing people within the tragic natural disaster. It seemed that her mother was one of the volunteers who tried to do her part, but she was swept away by the current. It tore Shirong apart.

His relatives' home was also destroyed from the hurricane and it took a good chunk of the loans to rebuild the house back again. Fortunately, his father was generous enough to donate some money for the repairing cost as well. From then on, Shirong was mostly trudging along and unsure of what to do — that was until he received an odd invitation to attend a university he never heard of. To realize he had magic though had basically opened his eyes and his world, only for Shirong to invest his studies in his magical field where he was determined to fine-tune and harness his magical skills. From then on, he decided to stay and remain as a professor, keen to bring forth the new wave of students and also instill the hunger for knowledge in them just like he had found within the university.

What are the goals of your character both short and long term. Work? Family? Etc
Short Term: To be nicer and more patient to the newer students, reluctantly, on the behest of the Dean.
Long Term: To better understand and also harness his magic better, but also to pass the knowledge to whoever is deserving.

Likes: Books, History-Fiction novels, Comfortable clothes and shoes, Dark chocolate, Maturity, Wittiness,

Thaaankk yoouuu! Posted into the character sheet thread, woooot.

Kakihara

We are just starting to get underway and have the first event to let players get their characters mingling and dipping their toes into the water of Brakebills so there is plenty of opportunity to still join if interested.

Swashbuckler

Name: Brody Johnson

Gender/Sexuality : Heterosexual

Age: 33, November 12th

Birthplace: Annapolis, MD

Year: Graduated Alumni

Occupation: Admin officer, Healer

Magical Discipline: Healing

Physical Appearance: Standing 5’9”, Brody is hardly the tallest guy around, but he makes up for it (in a way) with an overwhelming and misplaced self confidence.   Always clean, showered and smelling good, Brody is well built for heading into his mid 30s, his body that of someone who spends enough time exercising to be just shy of obsessed, but well over the line of vain.

Personality Traits: Charismatic - Athletic - Witty - Arrogant - Crass - Irresponsible - Provocative - Irreverent

Brief History:
Brody Johnson grew up in the affluent town of Annapolis, Maryland.   The only child of Edgar and Denise Johnson, Brody was rather spoiled growing up as his father was often busy with his work as a prominent doctor at the nearby hospital (as well as several extra marital affairs) and his mother kept busy with her socializing and gossiping with other trophy wives.

When Brody was 14 his parents sent him to a private school in New England, which Brody rather enjoyed as his parents marriage, a sham to everyone but him, was deteriorating rapidly.  The removal of their son from the house for long periods of time spelled doom for his parent’s marriage, and in his junior year they divorced.

It was around this time that Brody’s abilities began to manifest.   During a lacrosse game (because of course he played lacrosse) a player on Brody’s team was hit in the head and badly injured.  While helping to carry his friend from the field, Brody somehow healed the injury, and while everyone there simply thought the injury had not looked as bad as it was, Brody knew something had happened.

The recruitment to Brakebills came soon after.

At Brakebills, Brody was a middling student.  Naturally gifted at Healing, he thus did not feel pressured to overly apply himself, and the rest of his learning consisted of simply scrapping by learning just enough.  Besides, why study when there are so many amazing and magical girls around.

At the end of his tenure, having lied to his parents for years about where he was going, convincing each that he was living with the other, Brody managed to talk his way into the Brakebills administration office.  Pushing paper for the first few years, Brody has now managed to work himself into a position with enough prestige for his ego, while requiring very little actual work.

What are the goals of your character both short and long term. Work? Family? Etc
I’d like to see Brody settle into a grown up as opposed to reliving his school days at Brakebills.
Perhaps something/some reason to actually develop his healing ability

I haven’t written on e in a bit. But I just happened to peek on the boards out of curiosity and found this. I’ve been waiting for a game about this show Forever! Lol. I may have to see if I can dust off the old keyboard to see if I can come up with something for this one. That is if your still recruiting people?

But yes, we're still open and recruiting! We just started the first event thread, so this is a good time for you to join if you're still interested.

Hehe hello Timeless!!! I’ve missed you! Glad to hear you’re still recruiting, I have an idea or two brewing. I shall see if I can get them down and submitted quickly then. Hopefully the muse juice flows freely. Lol.

Still accepting characters?
Hello.  Yes, it's a sandbox game with some thru stories so we are always open and accepting characters.  Let me know if you have any questions or such that you may have.  A character sheet is on the first page.  I believe I have a link to the lore and such as well there.

Sorry had a few bad days on my end. But I’ve hammered out at least one of my ideas and will be writing her up as quickly as I can. Sorry for the wait!

No worries, it seems to have been a hectic week for many, including myself.  Take your time and let us know if you have any questions.

Curvy! <3 Heeeeeey, oooo, look, it's a Curvy character.

-touches- >->

Anyways, almost everything looks good. However, we have to address one thing about your character sheet. Expect a PM from us in a bit! >3<

Kakihara

We are slowly getting rolling with the first week of the school year going so it's a perfect time for new players to jump in as a student or staff.  We have a great bunch of writers and so much lovely potential!

Kakihara

We have had one player leave but we are still going along and still in the first week of school so great time to introduce some new school members or residents in the local town that are hedge witches.

Timeless

We are still looking for players! Positions for professors are still open, or you could play a student if you like.

For the meantime, there's no way to add bookmarks. But what you can do is, add an alert to the topic or the board. When you open a thread, you'll see a button to the top right which says 'No Alerts or Emails'. If you click on it, you will see drop box. Just click on 'Receive Alerts', which allows you to see any updates on the specific thread or board you wanna keep an eye on.

To check on updates, you can see the 'Updated Topic' just above and beside 'Unread Posts'.

Thanks for letting me know. That was killing me trying to figure something out lol. Also, Dorian Graves has been sent in for approval.

Caela

Loved this show and love the concept for continuing a story in this universe.

If you're still taking characters, would you be more in need of teachers, students, or ancillary (friends/relatives/business folks) characters?

Timeless

Caela! <3 Haaaaaai!

As of right now, I think we are flexible with all sorts of characters. At the moment, there is only two professors who are played by Kakihara and myself. But honestly, go and make whichever you would like. The easiest would be a student.

Caela

Hello Timey!!!

I'll look at the character sheets and see what comes to mind. I have a couple of (very) loose ideas for both a teacher and a student, so as I look things over, I'll see what takes hold more. :)
