The Circus		The Fairground
The Dalton Family founded the circus somewhere before the end of the 19th century, supposedly in Europe but no one knows for sure. The circus has attracted performers from across the world and now boasts a wide range of acts to astound and amaze within it's 'Big Top'. Acts range from jugglers and magicians, to strongmen, contortionists and aerial acts.		The fair that travels alongside the circus has grown and morphed over the years, changing along with current appetites from the public. These days it is a mix of traditional booths and stands for small 'novelty' acts alongside hair raising rides.

Dreamland is looking for performers of all kinds as well as personalities to run the fairground.

Circus performers could include aerialists, fire performers, magicians, gymnasts, contortionists and clowns...as well as the ring master, a member of the Dalton family and descendant of the founder. This is a key role and will require plotting with myself, almost acting as a co-GM, so this role will not be assigned on a 'first come, first served' basis.

Fairground staff could be the owners and operators of the various rides, tarot card readers and fortune tellers, those who run the 'challenge' type booths where prizes can be won, food and balloon sellers...

Customers are also very much needed, whether they are first timers or returning to relive experiences from prior visits. Whether they spend a night among the booths or in the 'big top' or whether they come back more than once. Because of course, without the people and their money...why have a circus at all...?

I am looking for a varied cast to come and join the circus, travelling from town to town. Some are seeking their destiny, others are trying to outrun their past.
Not everyone will be trustworthy, not everyone will be kind, the world isn't all sunshine and sweetness after all, but the 'family' is loyal if nothing else.
There will be friendships and romances and all manner of other connections possible, what happens behind closed doors is no one else's business after all.

Open to all writers playing characters of all genders, sexualities and backgrounds. It is intended to be a kink positive game, with consensual relationships of all forms encouraged.

For those characters coming with secrets or histories they'd rather forget, I'd love to be able to combine and weave these into something that can be played out between the cast. Perhaps people come face to face with someone they once knew, perhaps the circus is going to their old hometown where they swore they'd never set foot again...or where perhaps they were warned never to return to.

SERENA THE SIREN

NAME:  Serena Bradbury

AGE:   23 years

GENDER: Cis female

SEXUAL ORIENTATION/PREFERENCE: Pansexual

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Serena is a slim but toned 5’8’’ brunette with piercing blue eyes and long dark hair which she usually wears with waves or curls when performing.

FACE CLAIM: Alexandra Daddario

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Performer - aquatic act in the circus, works as a mermaid in the fair during set up

TALENTS: Swimming, sewing (makes her own costumes and helps other circus members with theirs)

HISTORY: Graceful and lithe with a voice sweet enough to lure men to the rocks without doubt, Serena charms the outside world from within her little glass tank.

Her mother had called her a water baby, the man she married had called her a freak. Either way, it made no difference, there was no where Serena was happier than in the water. A childhood of Esther Williams movies as her escape, watched curled up contentedly with her father, probably didn't help.

When he died, a part of her went with him. She loved her mother, she did, but the one who she had always felt closer to was him. They understood each other, had their private jokes, their secret glances. When her mother remarried, it stung, not least of all because the man she brought into their home was less than a fraction of the man her father had been.

Determined not to let her father down, she tried her best at everything. She always did alright in school, despite her best efforts she was never destined to be a scholar, and it was in the pool where she won her recognition. For a while, everything seemed to be falling back into place.

Champion for several states in every direction for the last few years in school, a boyfriend who was the captain of the diving team, she had plans for college and then marriage, everything looked just as she'd dreamed and then...there was one night when she was home from college, the night it all changed in every possible way.

And then she had to leave. Get out. And a tearful walk through the neighbourhood that fateful night took her past a poster for a travelling show, it would only be in town for the next few days before moving on.
Perhaps she could move on with it.

The rest, as they say, is history.

NAME:  Miloslav Zbednik (Milos)

AGE:   52

GENDER: cis Male

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Milos stands 5'11"; He's Muscular but not to extreme and he walks with a slight limp.  His receding hairline is a dark shade of red, as are his mustache and beard, all of it well trimmed,  There is a gold stud in his left earlobe. and his eyes are slightly heterochromic green and bluegreen

FACE CLAIM: Toby Stephens

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: As Director of Logistics, he supervises all moves (circus jumps) from one location to another, and the setup and tearing down, that is not done by the individual performers and owner/operators.  He also handles and the hiring of temporary and permanent support personnel for the Fair. He has no role in the operation of the circus itself.

TALENTS: Milos is familiar with all aspects of both circus and carnival (fair)operation

HISTORY:
Milos was born in the Carpathian mountains of Transylvania, to a circus family, though his father was purportedly Romani. At an early age he was a trapeze performer with a world renowned traveling Romanian circus. A serious midair collision during the troup’s first US performance tour, caused the death of his father and brother, and him to be hospitalized and thus left behind until he could travel. They had been performing without a safety net. Suddenly without a family, and already of an entrepreneurial mindset at the age of 16, he sought political asylum from his hospital room, claiming political suppression by the People’s Republic of Romania, and claiming his life was in danger. It was granted.

Milos never fully recovered from the fall, which ended his career as a trapeze performer, and he still walks with a limp. Steeped in circus culture, he toured with US traveling circuses for a time, doing various jobs, but never quite fit in. So he quickly found himself on the carnival circuit, a culture where he most decidedly did fit. He worked his way up from roustabout to ticket seller, show talker, stick, then flat store and gaff joint operator. And he finally took over the seriously troubled Carnaval des Ombres 12 years ago, upon the owner’s death and  essentially rebuilt it from scratch.

Six years later Dreamland, in a move to diversify in a shrinking market, made Milos an offer that was too good to turn down.  And with his retirement assured he is doing what he loves, and has no regrets.

Jonah stands 6'2"; He's Muscular and toned from the nature of his work  His hair is a very dark brown collar length with the hairline nearly intact But his hair is prematurely gray on the sides and his beard and mustache are salt and pepper..His eyes are blue

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND:Jonah was recently promoted from roustabout to ride jockey for the simp heister (ferris wheel)

TALENTS: Jonah is a talented mechanic with a knack for improvisation when parts aren't available.

HISTORY:

Jonah joined the Carnival seven years ago, while it was touring rural Mississippi.  He never mentioned where he came from, and nobody questioned his clothes didn’t quite fit right.  Milos never questioned his employees about their past, especially not roustabouts.  The muscular Jonah was big and strong enough to do the job, and that was all that mattered.  He quickly gathered a reputation as a hard worker, and a reliable one, though he tends to keep to himself when not on duty, unless its a woman come calling ... which has been known to happen. 

On the rare occasions Jonah has been asked about his past, he has simply replied that he was “swallowed by a whale,” just like his namesake.

The Fantastic Fatimah
Fortune Teller

NAME:  Fatimah Khan

AGE:   27

GENDER: Female (trans)

SEXUAL ORIENTATION/PREFERENCE: Bi

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Fatimah is an attractive young woman of Desi ancestry. She stands around 5’ 7” with black hair and brown eyes. While performing she wears a hooded robe but when off the clock Fatimah dresses in casual clothes that display her figure. Her left nostril is pierced and she has had some excellent work performed on her bust.

FACE CLAIM: Amelia Maltepe

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Fairground staff. She is a fortune teller that uses a variety of divination methods from within her tent.

TALENTS: Fatimah has a superb sense of intuition that comes from a mix of natural gift and years of needing to keep her wits sharp. She knows enough about various Eastern and New Age philosophies to make her act convincing. Previously Fatimah worked as a masseuse and will sometimes use these skills while palm reading to put a customer at ease.

HISTORY: Born into a Bangladeshi-American family with a good amount of money and rather conservative values, Fatimah Khan was in college studying philosophy when she came to terms with the fact she was a woman. The revelation didn’t go over too well with her parents, who cut her off financially. This caused Fatimah to do whatever work she could to support herself and make it through her transition, with some jobs rather dubious. Eventually she settled in at a massage parlor known to provide extra services at the right price.

After some years of this, Fatimah began wondering what future she had at the parlor. Turns out not much of one because it was raided by the police. Fortunately for her Fatimah had an odd feeling that morning that convinced her to call off and thus avoided arrest. Not wanting to press her luck more than needed, she decided to skip town. Thanks to a bit of serendipity there was a circus also getting ready to leave. Fatimah was able to improvise a fortune teller act that got her hired on. Since then it has been a pretty good gig, plus a clever girl like her can figure out additional ways to make some coins. What Fatimah doesn’t know is that the true owners of the parlor are of a dangerous sort and that they would like to discuss why she so coincidentally called off the day of the raid.

Fire Performance & Sword Swallowing

NAME:  Desdemona Haehn

AGE:  50

GENDER: Cis Female

SEXUAL ORIENTATION/PREFERENCE: Pansexual

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 5'3" and petite, it is clear that Des invests time and effort in maintaining her physique and appearance. She tends to be very "put together". She has pale skin, green eyes, and her natural hair color is dark brown, but she religiously dyes it black to cover greys.

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Performer | Fire Performance and Sword Swallowing

TALENTS: Des is an adaptable performer and has enough experience to fill a variety of different performance roles. Her primary performance talents (past and present) are as an aerialist, fire performer and sword swallower.


HISTORY: Desdemona has been with Dreamland for as long as anyone can remember. Her parents were both performers and she grew up entrenched in the circus lifestyle. She has had the pleasure of learning from and performing with many Dreamland greats over the  years and has cultivated a number of diverse talents as a result.

The circus was her first and remains her primary love, though she was married to another performer for a short time in her early twenties. His death is rarely spoken of, either by virtue of discretion or on account of sparse few having a long enough history with Dreamland to truly know about it. Regardless, there are occasional whispers of foul play and cover-ups when the topic surfaces.

Most of Des’ time with Dreamland was spent as an aerialist. She honed her craft for over two decades until the physical demand of the work began to take a more serious toll. In recent years she has filled multiple roles, her most recent being fire performance and sword swallowing. She has also dabbled with Tarot, and is happy to fill in or assist wherever needed.

She is generally a nurturing if somewhat enigmatic presence within the group. There is always a willingness to help those that have need of it, to offer guidance, and to ensure the operation and the people within it succeed.

Aerialist / High-wire performer

NAME:  Ella Dare

AGE:  25

GENDER: cis Female

SEXUAL ORIENTATION/PREFERENCE: Heterosexual

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Dark-haired and dark-eyed, Ella's petite physique (she stands only about 5'1" / 1.5 m tall) means that she is often mistaken for a little younger than her years.  She moves easily and gracefully and has a ready smile.  When not performing, she always dresses casually.

FACE CLAIM: Maia Mitchell

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Aerialist

TALENTS: A skilled trapeze artist, Ella has also learned high-wire tricks and more traditional gymnastics.  While she was recuperating, she also helped with some of the backstage tasks of the circus and carnival, and hopes to learn more of them so she can move to that full-time once she retires from performing -- which may turn out to be a great deal sooner than she'd planned.

HISTORY:
Billed as the Death-Defying Dares, the family name was originally Dubrowski -- not a name that rolls easily off the tongue.  Ella's grandparents had their surname legally changed when they started their act, choosing Dare partly because of its usual meaning and partly for the pioneering female aerialist Leona Dare from the late 19th century.  Since then, at least some of the members of every generation have been performing under the big top, and having grown up in that world Ella was terribly excited when she was old enough to officially join the group.  Unlike some in the family, she felt that she was most at home in the air and reveled in the time she spent far above the ground.

Last year, however, there was an accident during a rehearsal that injured Ella and her sister, Katrina.  Her injury being more minor, Katrina bounced back fairly quickly, but Ella broke her leg rather badly and has struggled ever since.  Forced to sit out for some weeks while she healed, she was at last able to slowly start practicing with the family again -- then found herself afraid to attempt the more difficult stunts even once her leg was completely healed.  Where once the risks of the act were simply an accepted part of life, now she fears doing any of the maneuvers that made her family famous.  Her leg is still a useful excuse for getting out of practice before the stunts get too difficult, but that's wearing thin and she isn't sure how much longer she'll be able to hide her fears.

Big Cat Tamer

NAME:  Delina Grier

AGE:   27

GENDER: Female

SEXUAL ORIENTATION/PREFERENCE: Pansexual

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:

Standing at 5'6", one would think that large cats would want nothing more than to just pick every last morsel of meat off of Delina's bones. And while she does sometimes make for a good target...as has been noted by the litany of scars along her back, legs, and arms...she has proven to be more than meets the eye. Dirty blonde hair, bright green eyes, and full lips show that this fiery package is more than just another pretty face.

FACE CLAIM: Jennifer Lawrence

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Performer, along with two lions, a tiger, and two cougars.

TALENTS: Able to handle big game easily, training-centered, fearless, and has proven to be very protective of her cats.

HISTORY: Delina has always had a love for animals. When she was little, she showed an affinity for training the house pets...going so far as to even get the house cats to respond to her call when they decided to explore the back yard. It was rather impressive to watch an orange tabby and a black shorthair come frolicking back into the house with nothing more than a whistle from a ten-year-old. Still, it allowed Lina to get into all sorts of other fascinating jobs...most specifically with the Bronx Zoo in New York City. For someone like Lina, it was a dream come true.

Unfortunately, dreams like these tend to have rocky awakenings. For Lina, it was the decision to trade out older lions for younger ones that might be more likely to produce offspring. The callous way that it was handled caused the teenager to argue against it, but to no avail. The two lions were traded off, and through the rumor mill Lina was able to find out they had gone to a safari campground where they were later killed.

The anger she felt from this led Lina to pursue a degree in zoology. It gave her a bigger appreciation for large cats, and allowed her to find a job with the circus to train and work closely with them. For the past year now, Lina has worked her way to become the trainer and caretaker for the large cats of the circus, putting her degree to wonderful use.

Gabriel Thomas O’Doyle
Works the crowd outside the tent as a Juggler, Broad Tosser (three card monty) and a times, a talented pick pocket

NAME:  Gabriel Thomas O’Doyle

AGE:   35

GENDER: Male

SEXUAL ORIENTATION/PREFERENCE: Heterosexual

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 6’1” and reasonably groomed.  Dark hair, dark eyes. 
FACE CLAIM: Michael Huisman

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Juggler but Gabriel doesn’t favor the garish outfits that the actual performers wear while under the tent and until he comes to grips with wearing them, he has to work the crowds outside.  He also runs a three card monty table when given the nod by those in charge.  It depends on the mood of the crowd, the size of the crowd and the general disposition of the nearby town.  Gabriel is sure to give a sizable cut of the profits back to the Dalton’s.


TALENTS: Juggling, sleight of hand, picking pockets and picking locks.  Gabriel is good with his hands.

HISTORY:  Gabriel grew up in London and spent much of his younger years doing his level best to survive.  His father was a dock worker and an unpleasant drunk.  His mother was ready and willing to do whatever was needed to make ends meet which often lead to Gabriel being on his own, learning the ways of the streets and doing what he could to eke out an existence.

Arriving in New York shortly after turning nineteen didn’t really put him on a different course.  Yes, technically he was out from under the influence of his parents but really he’d been on his own since he was a small child.

Jumping from job to job, failing his way through life one day to the next, he began using what he had learned on the streets as a child and began picking pockets as well as fleecing tourists on the street with games of three card monty.  He wasn’t living the dream but he was getting by when not getting chased by police or angry people.

A two year stint in prison was where he taught himself how to juggle and when items meant for juggling weren’t available, he’d juggle…well…anything really.

Getting out of prison lead him to carnival work.  It was really the only place that would hire him and while the pay is passable, Gabriel sticks with the work because it affords him the opportunity to see new places, meet a copious amount of new people and find new and greater opportunities to make some proper money.

Light Technician

NAME:  Maxine Tallowhill

AGE: 25

GENDER: Cis Female

SEXUAL ORIENTATION/PREFERENCE: Straight

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: 5"5. Small and lethal. Despite her petite and curvy frame she has arm muscles to spare thanks to lugging all those lights hither and yonder. Brown curly hair cut just on the shoulder. Deep mesmerising green eyes.

FACE CLAIM: Jessica Alba

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Lights! You want blue and mysterious, Sparks is your girl, you want a solo spot? Sparks is your girl. You want a disco ball to be lit with a rainbow? Sparks is your girl

TALENTS: Max has always has a flair for the dramatic but her talents lie solely in the realm of lights. She can do pretty much any lighting sequence you desire with the flick of a button. She makes it look easy but light programming and timing are an art in themselves! She will on occasion change a sequence on the performer. This is usually when the original idea doesn't gel with the performance. Max will always do this in the rehearsal prior to live performance. Nothing like a light change to put you off!

HISTORY: There's no secret story as to how or why Max and her twin (tbd) arrived at the circus. Brought up in a rather strict religious home where men left school at 16 and went to work and women didn't go to school at all but learnt the day to day running of the home.  It was her brother, the elder who came to quickly realise that life could be more then this. Though his time in education was limited it gave him access to books where he learnt about the world.

He would tell Max stories of great wonders, far of places and filled her head with dreams. It took months of planning, of him saving his allowance in secret to plan their escape. However escape they did. In a rust bucket of a car he had managed to buy from an old school friend. The twins left in the dead of night knowing they would be seen as good as dead to the community and could never return.

They traveled for a while after this picking up cash in hand jobs on the road. Moving from place to place wanting to experience everything! And by everything they did try it all! Parties  fast food  drinking, smoking. An accidental run in with local police when they attempted to buy drugs stopped them really falling off the wagon.

Shortly after this they found the circus and fell in love with the travelling job. Going to place to place having a supportive family of misfits around them. They both showed natural talent with technology Max for light and he for sound and so they became known as "The Tech Twins"

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Without sound there can be no performance! I have spoken! Sound Technician! The Lord of Sound!

TALENTS: Some think that all Robbie does is type in a search box and hit play but it is so much more then that! He runs multiple programs snipping and cutting desired sounds. He is also a talented musician and often inflicts bars of his own work into the music.

HISTORY: The first sign of a rough upbringing is when one's own parents can't think of a separate initial for your twin sister. The second is having a twin an hour younger. Brought up in a rather strict religious home where men left school at 16 and then straight into an apprenticeship for a job that they would do for life.

It was he that during those lucrative school years away from the community where his imagination and thirst for knowledge where encouraged that Robbie learnt of choices not just for him but for his sister too. He could see the same desire in her eyes

To be more then just a house wife! And for him learning that love came in many shapes opened his eyes to the fact that his community would never accept who he wanted to be.

Max's access to education was even more limited so he helped out as much as he could smuggling home books from the library . Keeping old homework for her to try and creating stories of the world for them to explore.

Robbie knew he had to leave and he was taking Max with him! His days of school over and his life already planned he took the opportunities life offered saving his wage until he could buy a car. Plotting and planning with Max late at night. When a decision of her future engagement was announced he knew it was time!

So they left, never to return, they traveled for a while after this picking up cash in hand jobs on the road. Moving from place to place wanting to experience everything! And by everything they did try it all! Parties  fast food  drinking, smoking. An accidental run in with local police when they attempted to buy drugs stopped them really falling off the wagon.

Shortly after this they found the circus and fell in love with the travelling job. Going to place to place having a supportive family of misfits around them. They both showed natural talent with technology Max for light and Robbie for sound and so they became known as "The Tech Twins"

Human Contortionist

NAME:  Alice Carter

AGE:   Thirty three years old

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Outside of the performances, Alice often lets her black hair down, and opts for casual, comfortable clothing.  Her body is adorned with a variety of tattoos that tell a whole bunch of different stories, and at times differ depending on the audience and person who asks.  She stands at five feet, six inches, and is petite to the point where family would often remark how she needs to eat more.  During performances, she puts on a smile and leotard that covers the tattooed flesh in a tight and snug fashion.

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND:  Performer - Contortionist

TALENTS:

• Contortionist:  Alice possesses the natural ability to bend and contort her body in a way very few ever could hope to achieve.  Over time this talent has been molded and shaped, polished to a performance-worthy style that can help to attract crowds.  She can get herself in and out of tight spaces.
• Good Liar and Storyteller:  Would she pass a lie detector test?  Would she be able to fool an eagle-eyed detective?  Probably not, but Alice is a pretty good story teller with lies, and can often get regular, every day people to believe her bullshit.  It's helped her in the past with getting things needed and desired, as well as out of a few sticky situations.
• Makeup Artist:  A skill she learned from her father, Alice is a pretty decent hand at doing stage makeup for performances.  Having learned with her father at a young age, it's a skill that has gotten better over the years.

HISTORY:  Alice's history changes depending on who's asking, really.  Like any good story teller, she changes and caters it to the audience at the time.  Subtle little changes, weaving in a new thread into the story of who she is according to Alice.  There are times when she might tell someone she grew up on a farm, or at times the descendant of industrial royalty, always keeping an air of mystery about it.  You might know she's lying, but that's by design.  She wants you to know she's lying in that playful manner she's adopted, wants you to keep guessing.  Few really know the truth, and it's something she likes to keep to herself.

The truth of the matter, however, is not something scandalous or grandiose as one might think. 

She grew up to a single father in Hollywood, her mother having died during childbirth.  Her father loved her to death, and always tried to keep an eye on her.  School was rough on her, and it's where she began to tell tales and lies about her homelife to those pesky, unruly bullies in her life.  Her mother was a spy for the government.  She was a model.  A famous writer.  They saw through it, teasing and tormenting her, and it was there that she learned the valuable lesson of keeping such things close to the chest.  Things got better after a while, as she found a taste for gymnastics and how she could contort her body, but still such lessons remained in her mind.

Gynmastics became an escape for her at school.  It was there, with her natural talent and abilities to contort her body, in which she found a bit of a welcomed respite from life.  There was acceptance there, appreciation for what she could do, and while she never won any medals, it gave her a comforting break in life.

After school, with her father not able to afford a babysitter, she could often be seen tagging along with her father on Hollywood sound stages and sets.  A makeup artist on shows and a few movies, he would have young Alice sitting in the corner of the dressing room, doing her homework while he crafted iconic looks for the stage.  As she graduated school, Alice took on odd jobs here and there, mainly working as her father's assistant in addition to waitress jobs and the like.  After a while, Alice left her father's side and joined up with the circus, favoring the nomadic lifestyle rather than being tied down to one place.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Katie’s a blonde-haired country girl with a laid-back manner. Standing around 5’ 8,” she’s got a bit of thickness in all the right places. Coop’s typically a jeans and t-shirt sort but cleans up nice in a sundress.

FACE CLAIM: Sara Jean Underwood

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Fairground staff. Coop is the main carpenter. With so much being made of wood at Dreamland it’s a pretty steady gig. She’ll also helps out in other ways to keep things running smoothly, whether lending a hand with a stubborn motor or a boot while dealing with an unruly drunk.

TALENTS: Woodworking is Coop’s best talent and she’s darn good at it. She’s also not bad as a mechanic, although this applies to vehicles far more than carnival rides. Pretty good card play and can be handy with her fists if need be.

HISTORY: Katie Cooper was born and raised in Beaverton, Oregon. A tomboy growing up, she was into GI Joe, football, race cars, and westerns. Her father owned a construction company, which is where she learned to handle tools. Katie thought she’d carry on the tradition but a series of misfortunes put an end to the family business. Instead she spent a few years tending bar at a dive until she headed to the carnival on her day off. Wandering the grounds, Katie noticed the pretty shoddy carpentry. She was overheard by a member of the staff and got challenged to do better. After spending a few afternoon hours proving that she could, Katie found herself with a new job.

“Coop,” as most people call her, has been the main carpenter for a good number of years now. She enjoys the work, the atmosphere, the travel, and her fellow circus folk. An easy-going soul, she likes nothing more than kicking back with a couple beers after a hard day’s work and maybe finding a roustabout or two to have some fun with. The only dark cloud in Coop’s life is the ongoing money troubles her family has been having back in Beaverton. She sends them what cash she can but things are still pretty tight at home. Coop has started gambling in an attempt to get a bit more scratch but that could end up leading to new problems for her.

He has a small phoenix tattoo on his upper left arm with the name 'Hunter' in the phoenix.

HISTORY:

Dash and his little brother Hunter were born in a trailer park just outside of new york city. Their mother and father tried their best, working with the hand that life dealt them. Their mother was a bit of an alcoholic, not raging, but enough that their father had to pick up the slack in raising the two boys. On weekends the three of them would work on the dad's 1969 Dodge Charger. The brothers would pick up jobs at the auto-part store in exchange for parts, and slowly they changed out every piece, making it almost brand new.

But soon their father's past caught up with him, and he was arrested and put into jail. Their mother tried to do her best, but she was passed out half the time. Dash ended up taking on his father's role to help raise Hunter, making sure they had food on the table, clean clothes, and anything else the family needed. Dash worked two jobs to help pay for it all from the age of sixteen.

Eventually, Dash and Hunter moved out to New York together hoping to find better jobs. Dash made ends meet with odd jobs, cleaning, cooking, ect. Hunter however wasn't exactly the best at keeping jobs, getting fired over and over, so Dash had to support them both. Hunter's guilt came over him and said he was going to find a way to make money for them.

But that attempt to make money eventually led to Hunter's death. Now Dash, with fresh burn scars on his back and arm, needed a job that would keep him moving. He saw this circus passing through his town, and on its final days convinced them to give him a chance. Now he works as a stagehand, switching out sets, helping the performers, and does the job well. He doesn't like talking about his past and prefers to keep a low profile.

NAME:  Deidre "Dare” (Deedee to friends and family)

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: At 5’10”, Deadre is an attractive young woman with an athletic svelte build.  Her natural blonde hair, which she dyes darker to match the Dare Family aesthetics, falls to the middle of her back and she wears it in a long ponytail during her performances, or loose when not performing.  Breathtaking blue eyes sparkle the most while under the spotlight.  During her performances she typically wears a skin tight leotard; though, isn’t opposed to showing off more skin if the occasion requires.  In her usual day-to-day life, she can often be seen in jeans and a tee, or athletic wear.   

FACE CLAIM: Doutzen Kroes

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Performer | Aerialist

TALENTS: Graceful, flexible, and born without a fear of heights, Deedee is a world class acrobat and dancer.  Comfortable on nearly any apparatus, as long as it’s ten feet in the air, Deadre’s spent a good portion of her young life training as a gymnast.  She possesses an eye for aesthetics, a drive to push the limits, and a desire to put on the greatest show she is capable of. 

HISTORY: Deidre Dare was born Deidre Kroes to a pair of Bosnian refugees.  Born years after the conflict which forced her parents from their homes, Deidre was raised in what some would call a nomadic lifestyle.  Her father struggled to hold down a steady income, and her mother did her best to make ends meet.  Deidre was homeschooled for most of her adolescence, which often meant helping her mother with the various house cleaning and other odd jobs she could find.

Deedee was about seven when her father found a job as a roustabout for a traveling circus.  Her mother was given a job as seamstress and cook.  According to Deedee, she soon fell in love with acrobatics and can’t remember a day after her family joined the circus that she wasn’t practicing in some fashion.  The dazzling lights, amazing performances, and the roar of the crowd captured the young Deidre’s heart.  Naturally talented and flexible, she was on her way to perfecting skills at a very early age.

At the age of fifteen, the circus she’d grown up in, was bought out by Dreamland and she met the Sensational Death-Defying Dares for the first time.  AT eighteen, she decided to forgo college, not that it was ever much of an option, and pursue life as a performer.  Billed as a “cousin” of the Dares, Deidre landed a peripheral position in the Aerial show as a rope dancer.  Hard work and motivation slowly advanced her presence under the Big Top.  Understudy eventually turned into a dual act on the scarves, which lead to intermittent solo performances, which then lead to the aerial hoop which is where she spends most of her time, even now.  Last year, however, when Claire and Ella injured themselves, Deedee was called up to the trapeze act, where she did double duty - trapeze and aerial hoop - until the real Dares returned to health. 

Happy to help anyway she can, she’s currently content with the aerial hoop; though, seems to be constantly trying to elevate the performance with new tricks, music, lighting, and other ideas.

HISTORY: The product of a broken home and rundown town, Lena has long been searching for the kind of family she's only read about in books. On her first visit to Dreamland as an adult, she was taken, not  just by the death-defying stunts, but by the community she immediately recognized between the performers. As it turns out, one the few happy memories she has from her troubled youth, was a visit to the circus with her now-absent father. Is it positive transference from the past, or just that magic big top haze that allows anyone to dream of the impossible? Unable to shake circus fever, she's now a regular on the trail, and desperate to snag a position in the troupe that could make this feeling last forever. Without any specialized training, she knows some convincing will have to be done. But if there is one thing she has going for her, it's that carny-like, do-whatever-it-takes tenacity. Working her way from the bottom, Lena is determined to weasel her way into this family of misfits... even if it means clawing her way in.

TALENTS: Horsemanship, using kindness-centred training on his four horses and one pony. A hard worker, Kit is willing to lend a hand where needed and is reliable in a crisis. He is a secret adrenaline junkie, fit and agile with excellent coordination and balance and has a strong drive to devise heart-warming and thrilling new tricks to please an audience

HISTORY: Kit was the son of an often-disinterested single mother pursuing her lucrative career in an English market town. Bullied at school for his cut-crystal accent, he took refuge in the local riding school. His disapproving mother bought him a pony to keep him occupied at home and to ensure he was mixing with ‘the right people’.

As an audience member, aged 14, he volunteered at a small circus to ‘ride a horse’. He took to bareback riding immediately but never imagined it as a career.

While working for a racehorse trainer, Kit discovered his talent for handling a difficult young horse but on returning to the Yard one day found the horse had been certified as dangerous and had been put down. Blamed for being too soft with the animal, Kit left, heart-broken, disillusioned and under a cloud. His mother died from an accidental drug overdose, at which point Kit discovered her high-end clothing shop was a front for illegal activities. Discovering the lies his life had been built on had a negative impact on his self-esteem

After the untimely demise of his mother, he sank his funds into putting together an equestrian act. Although quiet, he has a ready smile for friends and truly comes alive when performing. Despite still battling against his trust issues with people, he is seeking to have fun and catch up on having a social life. This may lead to interesting experiences. Kit is new to Dreamland and hopes to fulfil his destiny therein.

As for others, since she's a lifer in the circus, Ella is likely to know everyone who's been there longer than a few months at least a little, so all kinds of possibilities there.  As for newer arrivals, she'd be happy to help them settle in.  She's probably seen plenty of acts come and go and will appreciate the ones who stick around for a while.  :)

Act / Description of their role within Dreamland

NAME:  Maise Whitlocke

AGE:   33

GENDER: Female

SEXUAL ORIENTATION/PREFERENCE: Bisexual

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Maise is shorter then her brother, but is as densely packed with muscles as he is in comparison to her frame. Blonde hair that hangs down to her shoulders. She’s declined the tattoos her brother has gotten, combined with his beard leading to them looking different by a bit. Though if one puts them side by side the relationship is quite evident. More agile then her brother, she is closer to the gymnast he is not, though holds her own in terms of power.   

FACE CLAIM: Beth Phoenix

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Strongwoman – Twin act.

TALENTS: As a strongwoman, Maise is quite physically strong. Part of the act includes she and her brother lifting seemingly physically impossible objects. The act also includes balancing, tumbling and other such feats as well. When not performing, she can sometimes be found goading people into the hammer bell ring game, or at a booth for arm wrestling. She was more the mechanical one then her brother, and assists where needed in upkeep of equipment. She’ll also occasionally help roust problems around the fairgrounds.

HISTORY: Maise grew up on her parents farm in rural Montana, raised on the land and eventually helped take care of it. The farm was relatively quiet, run by their parents, a few hands, and her mother and father. She was blessed, as her brother was, with their fathers physical strength. Eventually this led to games between them where they would lift, toss, and do various things with what they were gifted with. She found she took more after Mom, and could be found chasing after her from an early age with her fisher price tool set, to help fix the tractors.

As they grew older, it was expected they would eventually take over the farm. When the parents fell ill, they tried everything they could to keep things afloat, but all it did was put them further into the banks pocket, entwining their fate to the risk. And it didn’t work.

Maybe it was the passing comment the bank officer made as they walked out of the house, maybe it was everything, but Maise saw red. It had happened before, when Jenny Gunderson insinuated she had lost her virginity to one of the horses on the farm and she put her head almost through a locker. It had happened before when one of the farm hands got too handsy and she broke his nose.  It happened again. She wasn’t even really aware of doing it but she left the hotel that same evening and followed the money man. The next thing she knew her brothers hand was on her wrist and her fist was soaked with his blood.

They left town that night, though she’d have stayed and faced the consequences. She was numb to the next few days…though if you were to ask her honestly she might say she liked it. The small amount of cash they had didn’t last long, though occasionally she would hustle a few arm wrestling contests at bars. More then one ended in a fight and if her brother noticed the bruises on her knuckles he didn’t say anything. 

They were cutting boredom with the starts of what would become their act when talent recruiter for a traveling carnival noticed them. They offered them a spot performing. Eventually the two agreed, and that started their overall career. They switched operations a couple times, not finding the right fit until they came to Dreamland about six years ago. It was here they found their fit, and they've been there every since.

And dreamland is his family. He always seemed to be around when help was needed. He was fad.

HISTORY:  Abe and Milos met in an otherwise unoccupied southbound railroad boxcar 25 years ago.  The circus season was over and neither of them was important enough to stay on the payroll. So they were following the hobo route to Florida looking for work, two clueless lambs among among a pack of hungry wolves. By the time they got to Florida, each of them had saved the other's life. ...  And they were family.

NAME:  Donato Falco.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Falco stands at a trim, toned 5ft 8. Dark curly hair touching his collar and framing his face accentuates his sparkling blue eyes. In keeping with his Italian heritage he has a tendency to speak with his hands. Often found wearing black backstage, Falco scrubs up well and is fond of wearing shirts with jeans.

ROLE WITHIN DREAMLAND: Fairground staff. Driver, stagehand.

TALENTS: With safe and sure driving skills, Falco gets people where they want to be on time and enjoys ferrying them around when they want to see the local sights. He doubles up as a stagehand and, although it isn’t his favourite aspect of his job, he plays his part in set-up and tear down with his hands-on attitude to life.

HISTORY: Falco was born in southern Italy but moved with his parents to northern Italy when his father got out of the fast-food and ice-cream shop industry and bought a hotel/restaurant on the shore of Lake Garda when Falco was six years old.

Naturally expected to work in the family business, Falco gained his driving licence early and undertook long-distance trips and local delivery of imported speciality foodstuff. His father named him ‘Donato’ which translates as ‘gift’ but Falco grew to hate the name after finding himself at loggerheads with his father and at odds with his rather religious mother.

When the circus came to town, Falco seized his chance to present his clean driving licence and, after learning the ropes working in two smaller circuses in Europe, joined Dreamland approximately six months ago. He speaks English well enough but people hear him coming with his cheerful Buongiorno! ringing out after around ten in the morning.
