"Wonderland; a world crossed with things not even our imagination could concur."

"Shall you be, say, a 3 or a 9? Because you certainly aren't any Ace."

"Oh dear, that really won't do at all. You should get that head on more sideways than that."

"Pick a door, any door. But watch your step. You wouldn't want to fall. But then again, you might."

Welcome to Wonderland, where your mind is divided and put into tarts.

What's that, you say? You don't want your mind put in a tart? Well then stay away from the Queen. There's a nasty rumor she does that.

Now, where was I? Oh yes. Welcoming you to Wonderland. I would try to explain it, but it would only confuse you further. There are far to many, shall we say, different things here. It's best you just see for yourself. So look in a mirror, or go down a hole, either will do, and see what you might see.

Things to Note
  • While this is inspired by the books and movies, it is still a original group with original characters.
  • This will be placed in the Non-con Exotic section.
  • This will be GBLTQA and rainbow writer friendly.
  • For more information please see the world building thread, where you will also find character sheet codes.
  • Vampyre Valkyrie is my co-GM.

    Rules to Play By
  • All characters must be approved by PM.
  • If you choose to leave the group, please inform me and anybody you are RPing with so we're not left hanging and I can mark your character as "inactive"
  • IC Posts should have substance, no one-liners.
  • Please try not to keep anybody waiting on a post longer than one week. Inform them if you will be longer. Real happens, I understand that.
  • Use the post header properly in every IC post.
  • While I have few limitations on characters, please abide by the ones I do.
  • If you are not familiar with The Oath of the Drake I ask that you please take a peak and try to abide by its words.
  • Most importantly, have fun! The draw for this group is creativity, so let your imaginations wander and enjoy what it brings forth.

    Roles
  • There is currently a need for more White aligned characters!

    Character Creation Rules
  • While characters are all original, characters that fit into a cannon role must fit that role and make sense for it.
  • Animal roles cannot be actual animals. Anthros (preferably the kind with animal features such as ears and a tail with a human body instead of the "furry" variety) are fine. As are people that can take the form of an actual animal as well as people who simply have traits of an animal.
  • In a sense, the first few and most important roles will help build the world, which is why I hope people that people who take roles like the Red Queen and Mad Hatter will stick with the game throughout.
  • Original character concepts can be anything so long as they fit the wonderland vibe.
  • You may notice that I did not include some usual sections such as Race. This was purposeful so to remind that lovely wonderland vibe of "what the fuck!?" I figure in a way, all the characters will have their own ideas of who and what the others are.
    Claimed Characters
    • Alice claimed by Bloodied Porcelain
    • The Red Queen claimed by Ember Star
    • The White Queen claimed by Vampyre Valkyrie
    • The Black Knight claimed by TheBlackThrone
    • The White Knight claimed by DemonLord FuriousPyro
    • The Knave of Hearts claimed by Landshark
    • The March Hare claimed by TheBlackThrone
    • The Cheshire Cat claimed by Ember Star
    • The Door Mouse claimed by Ember Star
    • The Blue Caterpillar claimed by Vampyre Valkyrie
    • The Jabberwock claimed by Chrystal
  • Other more obscure roles such as the Dodo Bird, the Raven or Bill the Lizard can also be claimed. However, the important roles above, are, well, important and take priority. I will also be allowing completely original characters. But, again, priority is as priority does. As for the Red and White Kings, well, considering that the Queens have always played a bigger role, I'm leaving the availability of the Kings up to whomever ends up with the Queens.

Hello!  :-)

Just curious if this game is going to have a GM run plot/story or if it’s more of a sandbox deal?  I’m assuming it’s not actually going to follow the adventures of Alice exclusively as that’d place a heavy burden on her player and create kind of a natural bottleneck for the game.  (By bottleneck I mean a situation where everyone in a game is waiting for one person to reply before they can post.)

Somewhat curious but a little uncertain how the game is set to work at present.

Hello, if you take a look a look at the World Building thread (which is linked in the last line of "things to note"), you'll find that information explained in part in the first post.

However, to condense for a.more direct answer; a little of both. It will have a GM directed plot that will loosely follow cannon to begin with (though with adjustments to avoid said "bottle necking" and weight on players), however it will also employ sandbox qualities with freedom of range for characters.

I'm quite interested in the role of Black Knight.
Do you have any questions? Or did you want to claim it?

Yeah, I'll go ahead and claim it.

I'll have to have a picture showing him in armor, and then others that show how he looks out of it, though.  There are like no good looking, spooky, Tim Burton-esque black knights.  They're either all armored, or they're just...not right.  Besides, apparently people don't draw/paint African-American men in armor.

As CK said, no. The list is updated as roles are claimed. I did have one person interested in WR. But since they already claimed one role, they were gonna wait and see before claiming s second.

Ah... Sorry, BeeP, I sort of assumed, as Ember said she was after a Co-GM and was going to be picky about who she chose, and as you had the main female lead!

Personally I think you'd make a great choice for Co-GM, but it's up to the two of you (obviously).

I have my hands too full with Salem, Mass Exodus, Survival, and (potentially) Durmstrang when it gets started, so I dont really have the space to take on Wonderland too. XD

Our lovely White Knight offered up this solution to the Kings.

Quote from: CarnivalOfTheGoat on September 07, 2014, 12:46:31 AM
One possible alternative way to look at it:

While Alice met the White King, the Red King spent the entirety of the book asleep (she sort of met him, she saw him at one point).

The Kings might exist but simply not be active on the chessboard. Which makes things tougher for everybody who feels they have to accomplish something since there is no possibility of a 'checkmate.'

Which I quite like. This means I or our queens can NPC or mention them in our posts without having to actually worry about them.

I thought I'd see what you lot thought about it.

Also, if Koka and whoever ends up as our white Queen wants somebody to play their King, I have no problem with that either. Personal experience in the past has just pitted the kings as hard to come by and retain in my mind.

Chrystal

I think that is an excellent solution. Let's face it, the biggest move a king makes on a chessboard is a Queens-side castle.

Just out of interest, I had a look to see what position on the chess board the J would occupy...

I'm guessing a rook on the Red side. (Seeing as the Tweedle Twins are the white rooks. I think the Crow is one of the red  pieces?)

Please check out my latest A/A post.

I'm trying not to get too far into the whole chess thing. But yes. A rook sounds about right.

Question though... if I NPC the Red King can they turn out to be a rather masculine looking woman (perhaps she fools most people) or even someone that falls into the category of "other"? Or must it be a male to truly be King?

Nah. I'm very 'lax with gender roles here. Last Wonderland group I was in, the Red Queen was a drag queen, and I loved it! So I have no problem with a masculine woman being a king.

There is also characters like, The frog footmen (always found them entertaining), Alice's sister (be interesting to have her show up), Bill the lizard (he 'worked' for the white rabbit.) I think there were two or so other servants as well, the duchess's cook, all the cards of the queen....

I want no ordinary lover. I want a storm. I want sleepless nights and endless conversations at four a.m. I want passion, I want madness.
I want someone who's able to make my whole body shiver from a distance and also pull me close to make sense of all my bones.

how about the whiting, the snail, the lobsters and the oysters.

Actually I have a bit-part character I suggested to Ember but neither of us were sure exactly how she would fit in, but if people like her I will ask Ember if I can keep her as a cameo....

She's "The Cake" and she shrinks anyone who eats her so they can hide inside... ;)

Would so like to avoid the chess thing as much as possible :P

I was imagining that the chess-board would be there only as a motif...A sometime occurrence in the landscape only. Not as something which in any sense dictated moves, required knowledge of chess, or any of that rot. There were plenty of places in Wonderland which didn't look anything like part of a chessboard, and the chess pieces weren't confined only to spots that distinctly were 'on the board.'

Also, a big 'yes' to the dear old Mock Turtle being a grand thing. :)

I like the idea of the 'rules' being utterly fluid and incidental.  Most of the time they're never mentioned, or they are completely made-up if they are mentioned, but every once in a while they appear out of nowhere and are used to a character's advantage/disadvantage, in an utterly arbitrary manner.

That sort of thing seems very fitting for Wonderland's unique brand of nonsense.

Yes, this. Particularly the 'incidental' and 'utterly arbitrary' so long as it's promoting excuses for interesting roleplay rather than crashing anyone's fun. 'Rules' that exist only when they are most entertaining.

Right, my understanding was that we were talking about 'is there a chessboard' and then 'if so, do people need to know chess rules' and I'm encouraging answers of 'yes, but it's backgrounded' and 'no, oh heck no' respectively.

And then I think we wandered into the idea of 'Wonderland IC rules' which are utterly ridiculous and arbitrary and fun. NOT meaning (at least so I interpret what people were saying) any sort of OOC rules.

(Although I do have to say with regard to chess rules, I briefly entertained a very Elliquiy thought about a doomed romance between a white and black bishop who could never enter each other's squares because each bishop is tied to moving on only one color of square. So they just zip diagonally alongside each other, shouting heartfelt adoration...I will stop now.)

Oh, I adore that game and the really dark and gritty feel that McGee gave the world, while maintaining the whimsy.  In fact, the fact that there was a twisted whimsy to the game is what makes it work so well.  But, I was thinking more movie adaptations.  Because, honestly, I wasn't a big fan of Burton's version.

P.S.:  Found the Black Knight's mount.

I thought it was terrible only because it lost a chunk of its horror aspect. Sacrificed horror for a psychological trip. I missed when the whole feeling of the game was creepy from the giggle children in the background, the kinder piano sound, and how every bad guy was so grotesque in design that even the Card Guards were frightening. *sigh* The sequel just seemed so mellow compared to the first one. Oh yes, and the gory deaths.
