Yeah.  She is going to be a primarily taijutsu character using the gentle fist next level once I can learn the stance.  Unfortunately I needed to put a bit more than I normally would into con to get that bonus Chakra so I can keep my byakugan active for longer and actually use the stance.  Then again, it actually only says you have to have byakugan to activate the stance, not to maintain it...  Once activated its just a stance right?  Lol.  Perhaps my years of playing Magic: the Gathering have me looking for loopholes in places where they aren't really there (or at least shouldn't necessarily really be considered).

ShadowFox89

Once a stance is activated, you don't need to pay Chakra to stay in the stance. It stays up until you switch to another stance/don't meet any other requirements it might have. You cannot ever have two stances active at the same time.

Okay, so the other two PCs are going to be mainly taijutsu/melee types with some general purpose jutsu. In that case I'll probably do up a ninjutsu specialist. Could I have a character with the Sharingan bloodline, possibly smuggled out of his home village as his parents were worried about him being experimented on to make him manifest the Sharingan early? (I want to get the learning bonus for jutsus he mimics)

ShadowFox89

Plotgan >.>

You can. I foresee an event where the students are kidnapped so their bloodlines can be obtained. Possibly including rape. Yes, even the guys.

Make sure to note anything you don't want happening to your character.

Also, you can use the Moreau race from D20 Modern. Just note that Moreau don't have what would be considered human rights, you are the property of whoever created you. All Moreau are sterile unless created to breed.

This looks interesting, but I have almost no experience with Naruto or the system.  If there's still room (and it looks like there is) for another student, I'll probably jump into this.  Best way to learn is by doing after all.  I play female characters, hopefully nobody has a problem with this.

Since it's modern age, I was thinking of having a petite gunslinger type from America, to mix things up a bit.  Does that work?

I have no problem with you playing a female student. And a gunslinger is fine, just know that there aren't any techniques that work for guns.

You don't need to know the setting or system too well, that's why I'm starting the game at 1st level for most people. I think I'm going to put a cutoff at 3 students per teacher though. So if Zaer plays a teacher, we'll have up to 6 students.

Here's what I've come up with so far:

Name; Makenzie Jones
Gender; Female
Age; 16
Sexuality; Bi, but she doesn't know it yet.
Race; Human
Appearance;

She has longish blonde hair which she keeps in a ponytail.  She has dark blue eyes and she's fairly short at 5'2.  Her most obvious feature would be her breasts which are quite large for her age.
Tattoos, piercings, other markings; None
Class; Fast Hero (tentatively)
Position:  Student
Personality;  Despite the fact that she seems like a fish out of water, Makenzie's stride indicates a strong self-confidence.  She seems basically friendly and outgoing, but doesn't adapt to her circumstances too well.  She seems to be used to making the situation change to suit her needs and wants, rather than the other way around.  Despite this, she is cautious and underneath her confident facade, an insightful person might be able to tell that she has no idea what she's doing here.
History/Background Info;  Makenzie grew up in suburban America, sheltered and safe away from the world.  However, at an early age her father introduced her to paintball and she displayed a natural talent for the game.  With incredible natural agility, unmatched hand-eye coordination, and the ability to think on her feet, she became something of a local legend in her neighborhood.  By the age of thirteen, she had begun to compete professionally, and also started taking self-defense classes.  Shortly after her fifteenth birthday, her long-lost grandfather, returned from his mysterious dissapearance with a strange story of a faraway land.  Nobody believed him except Makenzie.  Somehow she knew it was true, even though everyone else thought he was senile.  He told her of her long-lost heritage - that she was descended from an ancient Viking Runecaster named Sigurd who had travelled to Japan long ago, ostensibly through his magics, and helped a ninja clan in a battle against an evil Chinese warlord who tried to invade Japan.  For this, the Ninjas shared some of their knowledge with him.  The Runecaster passed on this knowledge through the generations, but it was now in danger of being forgotten forever.  He explained that the reason she was so quick and accurate was because of this ancient ancestry.  Her father had refused to learn the secrets, for he never believed in it.  Makenzie was old enough now, and because of her father's decision, she was the last hope her grandfather had to pass on the ancient secrets.  And so she agreed to learn.  He taught her all he could, but his aging mind had lost many of the secrets.  She tried to fill in the blanks by doing her own research, and found out about Junishin Academy.  She has left the safety of her home and travelled to Junishin, hoping that she will find the answers there that she needs to understand the powers passed down through her bloodline.
Ons;  Makenzie is a prude.  She doesn't like the idea of sex at all, and hates the attention her large breasts attract.  She wants to get rid of them as soon as she can afford it.  She's a virgin, and knows that someday she will have to have sex in order to continue her bloodline but doesn't like to think about that.  Personally, if you read my on/offs, you'll see that I love sex and especially rape.  SO basically, I'm basically expecting her to get raped at some point.  However, I know that alot of players may not be into that, so if she goes through the whole game without sex that's fine too.  Like I said in my intro thread, I'm not here for porn.
Limits;  Makenzie doesn't like sex.  I, however, have almost no limits.  There's only a few things that I don't like, but I'm flexible enough that they aren't deal breakers - it kinda comes with the territory when you set up your characters to be rape victims; you tend to accept whatever the rapist wants to do to you.  See my personal on/offs for details.

I left her background a bit obscure in parts to allow room for modification.  For instance, I'm not mentioning what her ancestral powers are or anything like that - in fact some of these I think would be cool to leave as a mystery so she can discover them during the game.  I'm still not sure what abilities I want her to have (aside from firearms skills and excellent accuracy).  The premise for the character is to be "different", I always love to play characters that aren't what people expect.  That usually means I run into trouble when trying to do that with a system i have no experience with.  Any input or feedback is welcome.

Well, I haven't specified if this was taking place in OUR world (IE, with the nations, religions, etc), or a homebrew world with a Modern setting. It's up to you guys. Otherwise, I don't see a problem right now with what you've got.

For class, I suggest Fast Hero. If you don't have D20 Modern, there's the online SRD. If you've never played D20 modern but have played 3.0-3.5-PF Dnd, it will be easy to learn.

I've played d20 DnD, but I think that's about it for d20 rpg's.  Most of my experience is with CoC, but that's a percentage system.  I am a game designer though, so I should be able to pick up any system pretty easily.  The setting for my character is based on assumption, if you decide to go with a different kind of world, let me know.  I can easily adapt.

I'll go with Fast Hero for now, since it does seem to fit.

Here's the SRD for D20 Modern.

The setting is based on what is easiest for the players to go with. I enjoy typing up settings, so I can adapt it to suit the needs of the group. I think I'll cut off students for now, until we get more teachers.

Shadowfox were you thinking one teacher per student at first for solo-instruction?

Also, shadow2k that's a really cool image, did you make it?

ShadowFox89

I was thinking 3 students per 1 teacher to keep groups small. We don't have enough teachers at this point for one-on-one.

I knew all that about the stances.  The reason I mentioned all the Chakra is to keep my Byakugan active!  I was just wondering if since it does say that the byakugan being active is necessary to go into the stance, but doesn't actually say you have to end the stance in if her Byakugan is deactivated.  I am just asking since the stance is a bit reliant on the sight if I could activate the Byakugan, go into the stance, then deactivate her Byakugan to conserve chakra but still stay in the stance.

ShadowFox89

The Byakugan is a requirement for keeping the stance active. If you are no longer using the Byakugan, the stance goes 'inactive' until you reactivate the Byakugan. That is to say, the stance is still there, but you do not benefit from it's effects. You don't need to spend the Chakra again to activate it when you activate the Byakugan.

That sound clear?

I used a heavily modified version of a hentai game called Schoolmate to make it.  I use games to create most of my characters.

Yes.  I was just checking.  Sorry, I admit I was just being a muchkin because I didn't remember reading that you didn't gain the benefits of the stance if the Byakugan wasn't active.

Chaeronea

Um when was there mention of this being in a modern setting? I remember there was a discussion about whether to run it in a Narutoverse schizo-tech setting (with kunai and jutsus alongside telephone lines and advanced computers in medical facilities) or in a full-on modern setting or ancient setting, and Mysterica mentioned that in a modern setting with our current levels of ID required for everyday life it would have been a real bitch for her character to stay under the radar for so long. Personally I don't think guns in a Narutoverse setting would be very disruptive - it just depends on how advanced the GM wants the weapons to be.

And Shadow2K, if you want to download the rulebook for this RPG then check out this link: http://www.narutod20.com/downloads/
It's based on the D20 Modern RPG but there's quite a bit of information to go through - the rulebook is almost 1100 pages, and 400 of those pages are jutsus. The contents page in the rulebook doesn't have pages numbers but I've written up a RTF contents page, so if you want it let me know and I'll PM it to you.

Cheers!

Whatever setting the players feel most comfortable with is what we'll go with. I can adapt Junishin to whatever is needed.

Chaeronea

ShadowFox, I have to admit I'm more comfortable with the canon Narutoverse with mostly low technology but some high-tech, or even just standard low-tech, mainly because the idea of hidden villages full of shinobi simply doesn't hold up in a modern world (how do you hide a hidden village from recon satellites, for starters?) Also in a world where modern technology is widely available the impact of jutsu-wielding shinobi is massively diminished.

With that in mind, however, I've got no problem with introducing firearms to the Junishin world. The occasional mundane guards with relatively primitive firearms (say American Civil War vintage - revolvers, breechloading rifles and double-barrelled shotguns) would certainly ramp up the challenge. Shinobi probably wouldn't use them due to their noise (except for a few trained specifically as snipers - imagine Tenten with a rifle for real long-range work while keeping her kunai for closer-in stuff), plus it's easier to use kunai and shuriken in conjunction with existing jutsus.

In regards to Mak's background maybe she actually is from modern-day America and travelled to a different world that Junishin is in - the initial character sheet specifically mentions that characters from other dimensions are okay. Heck, maybe that's tied to her bloodline - possibly a predisposition towards the use of spacetime jutsus to explain how she was able to cross to Junishin?

shadow2k

This is why I left the background flexible.  Travelling across dimensions or whatever is certainly possible.  This way, she can have a knack for equipment (guns) that other characters may not have, giving her a special ability in a sense.  Of course, if firearms are rare in the world, she may not be able to use that knack for a while.  That's fine too.  And if needed I can alter her background too, but I'm kinda liking this trans-dimensional thing.

Let me know if you want me to edit Mak's background.

As far as firearms go, there's a fairly fascinating historical scenario regarding the introduction of firearms to Japan and the effects it had on warfare and society.  It could make an interesting setting for the RPG.
