I feel like I should open up another spot so that we can get a Twilight or Daybreak and have two perfect circles in the team. XD

<3 Well even though Im a midnight caste I obviously have a lot of daybreak skills.

Just have the Raksha pretend to be a Twilight.

Nothing could possibly go wrong with that.  :p

Also a great idea. The fey are whatever they pretend to be.

Well, I guess as a Raksha she can probably fake it really well.

Zaer Darkwail

I am fine with free learned spell per circle learned. It makes most sense and makes the prequisite charm a less charm sink. I remember there was background learning spells freely but it was likely removed in 2th edition (called Savant or something).

Anyways necromancy is fun and it means there are three abyssals, but I will be curious to hear how your abyssal became renegade PaleEnchantress :).

RSGAlex

The backgrounds in 1e were Sorcery and Necromancy, unsurprisingly enough.

They were unbalanced because of how quickly they scaled up by cost. I forget the exact amount, but I think that at five dots (seven BP) you had about a dozen Terrestrial spells, with the option for some additional Celestial Circle spells if you could learn that circle.

This was a more focused version of what was wrong with the 1e Liege background.

XD

I'm fine with the sorcery charm houserule, its a pretty common one.

and i second the motion that a raksha-as-twilight is a terrible idea. Wed need to enslave nexus just to get me enough glamour to do crafting all the time.

....im also on fire.

Zaer Darkwail

1) Crow watches fair folk who is on fire.

2) He points hand nearest sausage stand and fires off his claw snatch one and pull it towards him.

3) Then point said claw towards flames of fair folk and cook the sausage from the claw.

alas, its purely cosmetic,

...though i might beable to fix that later on...

Also, i want to say, raksha are social monsters, i have seen low level mindfuckery that costs 5 willpower to resist, like 3 different social PDs, and a imperfect that allows me to apply my MDVs normally against unblockable/undodgeable social attacks, and ive read very little of their charms.  :o

RSGAlex

Even after the errata went and made them more playable (and took out some of the more abusive tricks and flat out abuses of mechanics) they are still pretty damn nasty at social trickery.

Hyena: You've got one too many background dots. Not counting Resources, your backgrounds add up to 8 and you're supposed to have 7. Also, you forgot to list one of your favored charm purchases in your BP expenditures. The math is right, you spent all 23 BP, you just forgot to list 3 charms bought, you only listed 2.

Adjustments made.

Making up a character right now. Im foggy on one thing and that is what do I spend to learn spells? IIRC it's a background but I can't find anything that actually says that.

They're purchaseable as charms at character creation at the discretion of the ST.

Also I have no problem with the house rule for the extra spell when purchasing the pre-req charms   ;D

Background
The abandoned wooden shacks that rotted in the most decrepit area of the port's shanties were shunned even by the beggars. The liquid filth was home to a wide variety of vermin and pests. The few taverns and porters that did business in the area paid no mind to disposing of their trash and refuse among what was left of the buildings. Some people however had no choice but to live in them. As much as the homeless needed the charity of others they were quick to take from each other if they could. One man and woman could not exist among the other people. They were both blind and deaf or nearly so. On their own they could find foul sustenance among what others discarded. They stayed hidden to avoid being victimized. The one time they knew they had to find another was when the female was ready to give birth.
It was no happy occation to have another mouth to feed, and yet the pair were too fearful of others to allow their child in any one elses hands. Unlike his parents the child was quite canny and in full possession of his visual and auditory senses. His screams went unheard as pests and vermin crawled over him inside the lightless box in which he existed. He crawled in filth, excrement, and squalor. His first words were things said to beg of others. He would often to go the other parts of town to prostrate himself before others hoping to evoke enough sympathy to acquire from strangers what he could not from his parents. Earp had been what his parents called him. It wasn't even so much a name as it was a sound that was easy for them to make. He was a cute baby that despite being underfed grew into a beautiful boy a pediastric relationship with a rich gentleman (A dragon blood exalted, though he didn't know what that meant) became his salvation. Being the sexual pet of a rich old man could hardly be considered a good thing, but the warped feelings were the closest thing the unfortunate boy would ever have to being cared for.
In his patrons household he became a sponge for knowledge. He was given an education, find clothes, and enough food to never be hungry. Using his body his mentor seemed odd at times but the human connection at least filled the cold he felt within. Earp even became friends with his masters children and was often paraded at gatherings for his unconventional wit and exotic beauty. Years of contentment, if not happiness, passed until foreign troubles called his patron away. The mistress of the house would not let him stay anywhere on the property and so Earp went back to the streets and stayed once more in the light less squalor his parents did. In his extreme depression he didn't even see the diseased condition his parents flesh was in. He contracted their leprosy and his beautiful body and face putrefied. In time he was forced to a leper colony. His face and genitals withered, ruptured and blackened. His beauty, the only thing that ever convinced someone to help him, was destroyed before his eyes. His bitterness and loss made him welcome death. He exhaled his last labored breath alone and unwanted; full of hatred for all of creation.
Ironically in death he was desired not by one deathlord but by two. The dark voices that spoke to him made him want to tear himself apart. Each presence spoke honeyed words that offered him carnal pleasures and luxury beyond mortal comprehension. They said they would make him more beautiful than ever. They offered him truth, power, and best of all a purpose. A shame he could only ally with one of them.

It was the offer of The Lover Clad in Raiment of Tears he accepted, alienating The Bodhisattva.  The exaltation made the broken child a genderless creature of inhuman beauty. The Widow of the Morning Stark, as it was named, learned well under The Lover. It's command of magic and necrotech rivaled that of the Daybreak caste. It's soul though was quite at home among the blasphemous Midnight caste. It saw the underworld as something beautiful; A near perfect copy of the utterly horrid realm of creation. The Widow would have been happy to ravage creation in the name of The Lover, but something about the Neverborn upset The Widow. They were frightening, but pitiable. The same world that tortured The Widow until it's last breath kept it's very makers in a wretched undying state. The sweet peace of oblivion was denied to them, yet for as much as they wanted to die they wouldn't accept any possibility of doing so without destroying everything along with themselves.

The Widow had tasted power and it wouldn't let it's own war against reality be secondary to that of the Neverborn.  The Neverborn will find their true death if the Widow has to deliver it to them personally.  The underworld will be saved and in the absence of the Neverborn, The Widow will be it's mistress. That's at least the plan. There is a potential eternity to carry it out.

The Lover has been rather unconcerned about her renegade servant. Perhaps she is curious to see what The Widow comes up with, perhaps she just hasn't felt the need to strike yet. The Bodhisattva still hunts The Widow like a possessive jealous lover.

The Sirens of Decay (The Cult)

"Reincarnation into this wretched world is a punishment that lasts forever. The void is complete annihilation. Between the two lies your only
escape." - The Widow of the Morning Star

The Sirens of Decay are The Widow's cult. They are similar to most death cults in their view of creation being a cruel chaotic place. The
difference is that they dont crave the complete annihilation of the void. Instead the Widow serves as a deific figure who can deliver their souls
to The Underworld where they can exist eternally rather than be subject to the chaotic whims of the cycle of rebirth. Widow is fairly honest about
the nature of The Underworld. The Siren's are told that if they don't see it as a paradise it is simply the chaotic flaws of creation that have
given them that outlook. Most of their prayers and meditations are spent preparing their minds and spirits to fully embrace the nature of the
underworld and love their lot as The Widow's eternal slaves. The Widow is quite the slave driver for it's ghost servants but it will protect them
from being enslaved by others, and wouldn't condemn them to the eternal suffering of being forged into soulsteel. Ghosts that don't worship it are
a different thing entirely...

Cathedral Catharsis

The Widow's large manse exists in a small shadowland and also serves as it's main temple. Many cultists both living and dead tend to the beautiful structure and elaborate gardens. It is appointed with a Master Necrotech Laboratory (The ability to get this and make necrotech is why I bought more than the automatic 3 resources)

The Stone of Inhuman Beauty.  - The Hearthstone for the Cathedral. The Cathedral existed as a massive monument to the Unconquered Sun during the first age, but it was pillaged during the usurpation as well as several times since. The most recent looting was done by The Lover clad in Raiment of Tears, and it was she who created the shadowland around it. The Lover got what she wanted from it and it now belongs to the Widow. Widow has done some significant repairs, warping it's style to reflect Widow's own dark tastes. It's still not fully restored. Should it ever be fully restored it's dark majesty would rival (if not surpass) the great temple of The Bishop of Chalcedony Thurible.

Ally & Obligation

Prince of Shadow and the Widow had a brief tryst. They are good friends and occational lovers, but at the moment the Widow owes Prince a favor for helping it evade their master, The Lover.

Enemy: The Bodhisattva pursues Widow desperately. The extend of what lies between them has yet to be fully revealed.

Seraphic Deviltry
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

The oldest and most powerful of the three ghostly "brides", Seraphic Deviltry serves as the high priest of The Sirens of Decay. In life his name was Jerion and he was a famous courtesan that provided companionship and exotic entertainment for rich mortals and dragon blooded clients. Though there were rumors of his illeagle occult practices it was not them which caused Jerion to die the youngest of the three ghostly companions. A jealous lover's obsession drove her to murder the object of her passion. Seraphic Deviltry appears as a tall handsome youth, dressed in revealing roman style garments, with lean muscles and long green hair. His ghostly abilities make him an increadibly powerful nemessairy.

Wicked Tongue

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

A Lintha Pirate in life, Wicked Tongue is the most specialized of Widows ghostly companions. Falamar's story is that of thousands of Linths brother's and sisters. Initiated in his late teens and castrated, his cruelty and ambition brought him respect among his peers and infamy among his enemies. In his early thirties, the heavilt pierced and tattooed Falamar met his death in a suprise attack by the saliors of a vessel he and the rest of the crew were boarding. He still appears how he did in life, tall and wirey, proudly displaying the trademarks of the pirates all over his body. He has actually become less cruel since he died. Widow only rarely needs to call upon Wicked Tongue's powers, but when the oppertunity arises he can make wild hungry ghosts into docile pets and ever alter their apperance. It's very difficult for him to affect creation so he usually rides with the window hidden inside one of Widow's posessions. His love and desire for Widow run so deep he can hardly feel anything else.

Rule of Three

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

Rule of Three is the youngest and most physically capeable of the three ghostly brides. Verona, as she was called, led a somewhat typical life for a tribal women.. At least until her humband and all the appropriately aged men went to war and were never seen again. With the men gone, and most likly dead, the women were without their hunters and protectors. Verona was not going to just sit there wait with her family to be eaten by a marauding beast or taken as wives and slaves by an enemy tribe. She and several of the other strong willed matrons trained all the able bodies females to be capeable hunters and warriors in their own right. When their enemies came they were ready. Verona's death was to a malaria epidemic, something she couldn't fight. She lived for the longest time among Widow's henchmen, dying in her late 40's. She was never particulartly beautiful, but she has a atletic build and could not be called ugly. She prefers to dress in a tight black suit complete with mask and hooded cape. Underneath it she wears her armor. Rare among ghosts, her powers allow her to affect creation.

Okay then, new house rule time:

Sorcery and Necromancy

Buying a [X] Circle Sorcery/Necromancy charm gives the character one free spell of that circle. The character must still have the means and the training time to learn that spell, and if they don't at the time they buy the charm then the spell is considered "on hold" until they can learn it.

Martial arts initiation charms

Raksha who buy the charms Root of the Perfected Lotus and Bulb of the Perfect Lotus gain one free charm in a martial arts of that level. They must still meet the selected charm's prerequisites, and have a tutor and the training time in order to learn them. If they don't have those thing when they buy the initiation charms, the free charm is considered "on hold" until they can learn it.

Similarly, Dragon-blooded who learn an Enlightenment charm gain one free charm in a Celestial martial art, with the same conditions as outlined above for Raksha.

Even Blade Style changes

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Fiery Garda Force Attack
Cost: 4m or 4m, 1wp
Minimums: Martial Arts 4, Essence 2
Type: Supplemental
Keywords: Combo-OK, Obvious
Duration: Instant
Prerequisite charms: Even Blade Form
With a sudden red flare around her hands, the martial artist brings all her strength to bear in one tightly focused strike. A successful attack deals piercing damage, but the Fiery Garda Force Attack has another aspect. If the martial artist’s foe successfully parries the Charm-supplemented attack, then the character may reflexively spend a Willpower point to break the parrying weapon. The martial artist is not required to attempt this.

Most normal weapons shatter or are sliced in half. A fine or exceptional weapon (as detailed on p. 365 of Exalted) may resist destruction. The owner's player may roll their Dexterity + one or two dice, respectively, against a Difficulty equal to the attacker's Martial Arts score with success indicating that the weapon withstood the awful blow. Artifact weapons roll Dexterity + 4 with a difficulty of the attacker's Martial Arts score, and upon failure the weapon is forcefully de-attuned and cannot be re-attuned for the rest of the scene. Essence-forged weapons such as the Glorious Solar Saber are instantly dispelled and must be re-invoked if the target wishes to continue using them. The three great masters of the Even Blade Style teach their students that great quality ought to be admired and that the bearer of a great weapon should be respected. Oftentimes, practitioners will pull back and bow to such a foe respectfully before continuing the fight.

If a weapon is broken by means of Fiery Garda Force Attack, then the martial artist may continue the attack against its bearer. She loses three successes from her attack roll, but otherwise, it is resolved normally and as if the target had no Parry DV in the first place. If an artifact weapon is de-attuned but its owner is still capable of carrying it, the attack is still successfully parried. Otherwise, the attack is resolved as if it were a mundane weapon that was destroyed.

Thoughts, everyone?

Laughing Hyena

For a terrestrial ma charm that seems a touch too powerful. Able to de-attune an artifact and cancel out essence weapons created by charms?

PS - I have no problems with sorcery being treated that way considering how boned it already is.

Dracorion

Point. What if it disarmed the target instead of de-attuning the artifact?

RSGAlex

I think that we should look for John Chung's rewrite of Even Blade.

The style's got a few more issues than just Firey Garda.

Anyways Even Blade style does have some issues indeed than just single charm. Also de-attuning artifact weapons are more CMA level stuff (solar style has charms to do it and also break form stances). Terrestrial style is meant to own mortals but not fellow exalts (only being mildly useful). Altough Five-Dragon Path style in itself has some very powerful charms in it which have uses against even celestial exalts. But it's considered a 'lesser cousin' style of the Immaculate Dragon Styles.

Dracorion

Right then, having read the rewrite, I'm on board with it. If no one has any protests, we'll be using Jon Chung's Even Blade Style rewrite.

RSGAlex

I not only encourage using it, but am now smiling because I kinda remember the circumstances around that rewrite.

Okay im nearing completion of the "Crunch" mechanics for my character. I do need storyteller approval on these things though.

First off two of my flaws aren't from the "mutation" system in exalted. I actually pulled them from a Vampire:The Masqurade Book but I think they work rather well here.

Rival Lieges (3 points): Not one but two deathlords wanted to exalt The Widow as their own. One succeeded (The Lover clad in raiment of tears) the other did not (The Bodhisattva anointed by dark waters). While the Widow's renegade status means it isn't especially key to The Lover, The Bodhisattva feels he might be able to reign The Widow in to his command. If not he might seek to undermine or harm The Widow in revenge for being the vassal of a different lord.

Beacon of the Unholy (2 pts): In VTM it meant that any very devout mortal or clergyman automatically recognizes the character as something wicked and unnatural. Since religion and gods work differently in Exalted I was thinking it would Apply to anyone that would be considered "pure and virtuous" (not necessarily virginal pure). At 2 points I think its balanced as an occasional annoyance and very rare major hindrance.  If you would implement this as a big sign on my head that says ANATHEMA to every member of the wyld hunt who glances my direction than I may need to examine my options.

Also I have a question

The Necromantic spell "Flesh Sloughing Wave" looks like one I really would like. Though the actual range is ambiguous. It created an ivory sphere of energy that you throw at the ground which then detonates.  I'm interpreting this as the sphere being able to be thrown a decent distance away. If the alternative interpretation of "you throw it directly at the ground" is correct and it always goes off at my feet than I think I might find a spell that doesn't do an undodgable 14L damage to me and all my friends around me.
