I've decided that I'm going to pause this idea.

Thank you to everyone that volunteered, made character sheets, and/or participated in conversations.

Gangland: Urban Decay - PvP System-lite (Interest Check)

I'm looking at possibly starting up a group game that revolves around 3 opposing factions in a setting of modern urban blight. All factions and locations will be completely fictional. Members will be multi-ethnic and non-gender specific. LGBT friendly.

I'm looking for flexible go with the flow sort of role players that won't take any PvP personally as this whole RP will revolve around constant threat of violence between the 3 factions.

My games tend to be fast posting with the expectation of several posts a week from players.

The system and setting is still under development. Your input is requested and appreciated. (Click here for system conversation).
T
he system will be simple, easy, and not require complex calculations or any sort of mess like that. The E dicebot will be used to resolve PvP combat and players are expected to roll with the punches and lose their fights when needed with style.

Factions:

  • Police - Line County Police(LCP or "Black & Whites" to the locals) are the local law enforcement agency. They are understaffed, underfunded, have no room in their county lock-up and do their best to only involve themselves when innocent civilians get hurt/robbed. Otherwise they only come out in force for serious criminal offenses such as catching large quantities of narcotics or arresting murder suspects. They are fairly well respected by locals and the two major gangs but if they cross the gangs paths at the wrong time it can get messy. Messy can also lead to arrests/shootouts.
  • Rolling Nines - R9s, Color to represent are Blues. They get their name from the 9th Street Freeway that roars overhead of their district. A multi-ethnic area like the rest of Line County but they live down in a ravine. Predominantly with old 3-4 floor apartment buildings and small shop faces.
  • Sin City Ballers - SIN, Colors to represent are Reds. They get their name from the Ryersin Projects, a massive 20 story rectangle housing complex with a courtyard in the middle, the building sits on top of a hill that overlooks Line County, down into the ravine and out onto the beach. It's surrounded by tiny little single family one floor houses.

Line County - Is part of a massive city similar to Los Angeles but in a state of Urban Decay more along the lines of Detroit. It's industry is all dried up and the state & federal governments are not giving any form of financial support. It means that unemployment is closer to about 50% in the area and public infrastructure is rapidly falling apart. Life is hard on the streets of Line County a once thriving tourist destination that had quaint little shops and beautiful beach front. Now the hotels are mostly abandoned. Only tourists come from up state or inland but even those numbers are dwindling fast.

Once it was a multi-ethnic hub full of life but that was a couple generations ago. Tourist jobs never did pay well but people were happy. Now the people are poor and desperate. The government largely ignores life here.

It's up to you to make your own way and protect what's yours from anyone that tries to take it.

We'll be recruiting for all 3 factions.
Each one will have it's own thread.
Then there will be one thread for a neutral area that runs along the beach.
The neutral beach area has the largest presence of police and is a common destination for locals and tourists alike. It's a lot like the Venice Beach boardwalk area - street buskers, small shops, little parks, and big beach with a pier.

Post your interest, thoughts, conversation, ideas, questions... etc...

Recruiting about 12+ people: 4+ for each faction. That should be enough to let each thread stand as an independent group RP with crossover to other threads.

More needed and some neutrals

I might join. Is it possible to play a citizen caught up in all of this, who ends up picking a faction mid-way through? If not, I'll pick the police faction.

I would like everyone to start in one of the factions. The idea is to have 3 separate small group RP's going on at the same time that cross over one another in the neutral area or onto each others hoods.

Unless of course I get a lot of interest and can get at least 4 members of each faction. Then I would be open to letting people take on the roles of ordinary citizens (small business owners, etc...)

Note: There doesn't always have to be violence... I posted a rough idea of what I was thinking of for a simple system and it includes options for Rap Battles, Dance Battles, and Gambling.

First system-lite proposal (To be edited/or maybe changed completely)
Quote from: Moraline on September 05, 2013, 05:59:55 PM
Right now what I'm thinking is a simple D20 system with Ranks.

Skills:

Every Skill starts at Rank 0,
Every challenge won earns you a new Rank (That's a best 2 out of 3 rolls).

Dice Roll Modifiers
Rank 1:  +1
Rank 2:  +2
Rank 3:  +3
Rank 4:  +4
Rank 5:  +5
*  Bonuses come every 2 ranks thereafter. (Ex - Rank 7 +6, Rank 9 +7, Rank 11 +8, ...)
**Bonuses stop at a +10 but the Ranks get higher just as a sign or respect.

  • Fighting (empty handed):  Starts at base roll
  • Melee Weapon (knives/clubs/chains):  +2 Over Fighting Skill (only +1 for brass knuckles)
  • Gun Play:  +5 Over either Melee Weapons or Fighting
  • Parkour/Running:  This is a running skill and can be used the same as fighting only to make a get-away instead.
  • Dance Battle:  This is for those occasions when people just want to throw down some dance moves and show off their style. Life isn't always about banging on the streets. Sometimes it's alright just to make fun of the other guys.
  • Rap Battle:  It's all about busting out the verses and spitting out the lines. If you don't have the skill to step up to the mic then get off the stage.  We all got a story to tell and some of us are just better at telling it then others.

Battles/Combat
Combat would work by both players rolling 3 times and making one post of rolls only.
Whoever wins the best 2 out of 3 wins the combat.
The loser of the combat is the one to post/type out the flow of the fight.
The Loser gets one last chance here to escalate the fight or run away (If there is any way out.)
The winner types out the final winning couple blows/stabs/ or shot.

  • The outcome of the fights flow would be determined by the dice wins and losses.
So if Player A, won - lost - won his rolls.
Then his opponent Player B (the loser) would post/describe the combat by indicating how he started to lose the fight right away, then made a comeback, and then got beat down.
  • Player B (the loser) could then opt to escalate the fight to a gun battle if it was any other type of fight.
Or - He could opt to try and run away (If there is any way out.)
Either will result in another best 2 out of 3 rolls battle.
  • If the fight is escalated or there is a chase, the winner gets to post how the other guy ran or escalated the fight. If not then go to next step.
  • Winning Post - Player A would then post how he won the fight with the final couple blows/shot etc...

Optional Gambling Game
(No skill for it, unless you cheat with loaded dice.)

Toma Todo

IC - A single six sided dice (OOC: Random number 1-6 on the dicebot)

Each player puts a dollar in the pot at the beginning and after each win.
Select the first player by dice roll or other means.
Each player rolls once, and the die tells you what to do:

If you Roll a:
1: Put in one dollar
2: Put in two dollars
3: Everybody puts in a dollar
4: Take one dollar
5: Take two dollars
6: Take the pot (you Win!). (Start over - everyone drops in a dollar again)

*Optionally the stakes can be raised*

Sounds interesting. I'm giving this one some serious thought. If everything works out I'll join.

Yukina

So if its possible, I think I'll just stay in reserve in case of the overflow option.

Also interested! I loves me some political semi-PvP.

Per usual with a group game, my interest will be partially based on how many other compatible gay dudes are in the game.
Like what you see? I am currently looking for new plots!

Interesting. I'll keep an eye on this game.
Did you have any idea of a faction you might like to be a part of. Or any specific overall ideas on the concept? I'm really hoping that the potential players will be part of the overall development process.

Lockepick, if you know of anyone else that might be interested that fits your description, please invite them to take a look at the game.  I'd love to have more people on board. My hopes is to have a fairly large diverse crowd.

Totally looking for interested parties and hearing feedback/suggestions/ etc...

I'm in. Either the R9's or SIN. Thinking (if it's okay) to play a high member of the gang (if not the highest).
Out here in the fields, I fight for my meals and I get my back into my living.

I don't need to fight to prove I'm right and I don't need to be forgiven.

Typical gangs have what they call "Sets" and "Cliques."

The Set covers a larger area or loose affiliation of Cliques.

Since these are small local gangs, they'd be "Cliques" and each one has a "Shotcaller."  The Shotcaller is the local leader.
Depending on who we have and how many want the position we'll see about who gets to be Shotcaller. So far you are the only one that's asked about it.

Kaya

Color me interested. I like SIN, just for the name.  ;)

I am not looking for the role of the leader, a normal member will do fine for me.

(Anyone who thought the last part was dirty, shame on you.  ;) )

A word from Sgt Gruff, "It's time to get packin' recruit." He hands you a weathered looking shotty and standard issue sidearm.  "It's a war zone out there. Don't go trying to take down every two bit pusher and low life you see if you want to make it back home at the end of your shift... Oh and welcome to the Line County Police Department."

Outside the vehicles are all black and white's with chipped paint, rust in the wheel wells, bald tires, and the interiors are dark grey. The police radio looks like it's been ripped out with bare wires dangling and the place where the laptop should be bolted in is just an empty metal framed tray. A quick glance over your shoulder will find a caged in back seat, complete with cage windows, ripped seat and what looks like blood stains. Oh yeah, this car is a beauty. Nothing like top of the line equipment for our boys&girls in blue. Well, actually black uniforms with bullet proof vests but you know what I mean.

It's already been said but welcome to the Thin Blue Line.

I'll probably post up character creation stuff early next week. Still waiting to see if we get some more people interested before I get players to make characters.

Also we are still working on the system to be used (please feel free to join the conversation):
The aim is to create an ultra-simple system that can be explained in only a few paragraphs.

Set me down as interested for SIN. I'm thinking a capable and trusted enforcer, not up to being a lieutenant or leader yet, but definitely not an errand boy or footsoldier. I can back that idea down to footsoldier, though, no problem.

I'll put you on the list for SIN.

We'll most likely only have a gang clique so the positions will just be shotcaller and soldiers. Unless we end up getting much bigger then expected.

The expectation all along, right from the very first post is 4 people in each faction. Each faction has it's own "main thread". If I can't get 4 for each faction then the entire concept falls apart.

Rachubka

Can I bust up gang members for being too rowdy? I'd like to bust up gang members for being too rowdy.

(Cop interest!)

Lord Rupert Everton

I'd be interested in being a cop. Maybe something undercover or some other relationship to a gang that makes it difficult for me to openly bust heads.

Moraline

Hey Rachubka! Glad to see you stopping by. I'll put you down on the list.
As for busting up rowdies.. Um.. might want to be careful with that. This city is practically a warzone. How about, "arresting them when they are trying to shoot at people and only when you out number them so you can make it home alive at the end of the night."

Hello Lord Rupert Everton, I'll add your name to the list as well. It looks like our police force is now all full.

  • Has a dependency on codine and novacane.

Tales:

Seb was born into a low-class family, with a mother who taught pre-schoolers, a father who fixed up cars for back-street money and a sister who sold herself to pay for tuition fees. Up until aged four, Seb never spoke a word, until he witnessed his mother's accident, to which he said "Mine". Raised by a now single father, who had no control of his kids, Seb began to live his own little way. He and his friends set up a small school gang, involving regular beat-ups, thefts, and general nuisances. Aged ten, Seb stole his first watch from the local pawnshop, and aged thirteen, received his first criminal record for handling a knife in public - for this, he was kicked out of school and black-listed on the education board. His gang had drifted apart due to personal trysts, and Seb had become a loner in the suburbs. Aged sixteen, he grew a fascination with cars when working experience-shifts with his dad, who taught him the tips and tricks of cars and bikes despite the record his son was slowly building upon. The two worked together awkwardly, until Seb decided that his father's business needed a push; he came up with a plan the two of whom agreed upon immediately.

Working for his father, Seb would obtain vehicles by any means and bring them to him, which would then be resprayed, fixed up and then driven to a buyer. By doing this, Seb had begun to learn the streets of Line County better than any cabbie, and his name was slowly becoming a known thing. Half the money went to parts and tools, and the other half was split between Seb and his father. This went on for eight months, until one car Seb had 'acquired' belonged to the head of a local unit, who respectively killed his father during a drive-by shoot-out. Now with only his sister, who was most likely somewhere downing a morning-after in someone else's bed, Seb was left to fend for himself. In honour of his father, Seb tattooed a small cross on his wrist using a razor-blade, cotton-bud and ink.

Within a year, Seb had found himself staying in the Ryersin Projects, paying minor rent for a two bedroom flat on the 19th floor. Using what money he had with the cars he'd stolen, Seb bought weights, clothes and food, before settling in amongst the residents. Aged 18, Seb was introduced to the leader of the Sin City Ballers, who was in "need of a man who could drive a car faster than Senna could on codine". He took the job immediately. Not only did he get in, out and away before the cops put their coffees down, Seb had also worked on drug-runs, escorting and drive-by assists. He learnt how to handle a gun, where the best spots were to hide cars, and even took up fighting as a small hobby.

Up until four months ago, Seb is now a wanted criminal for the murder of Charles Brandt, a local businessman whose crippled body was found protruding from what was left of his crushed Jaguar in the Line County Scrapyard. CCTV of Brandt's office shows Seb entering, throwing Brandt across the desk, and through his office window. It is assumed Seb had help in this matter, but it's not known who.

Seb is now the designated driver of the Sin City Ballers, acting as a getaway driver, an escort, and a decoy pursuit, allowing for his companions to escape while he leads a wild goose chase. He has been shot on the job, and stabbed due to a beef with a hot-headed kid. He's had cars stolen, and he's taken them back, leaving a trail of monoxide and blood. No one knows the streets of Line County like Seb does, and no one can outrun the police like he can.

Sexual Preference Straight.

Character Mortality: Seb Farrer is mortal.

Why did they join the faction that they joined?: Seb joined SIN because it's the only family he's got, albeit a dysfunctional, bullet-born family. He wants enough money to get away from the city, but knows it'll take more than a bag-full of green to get out of Line County for good.

What do they want out of life?: Seb is too busy to think of anything other than the getaway; anything else that plagues him he tends to drown out in over-the-counter codine and cigarettes lined with novacane.

How long has their family lived in Line County?: Seb is unsure, but his father had been working there for the best part of twenty-five years, so he sticks with that.

Zoey Fisher
Faction: SIN Rank: TBA
Player Name: Dashenka
Description: 26 years old, 5'6", 121lbs,

Tools:

  • 2x Desert Eagle Semi automatic pistol.
  • Samsung Galaxy SIII (in white obviously)
  • Sunglasses
  • Kayanta

Hooks:

  • Former drug addict
  • Always carries both her guns.

Tales: When Zoey was born, her faith was already to become a gang member. Her father was in the SIN, her mother worked as a stripper. Her family didn't have a lot of money but managed to scrape by because of her mom's work or her dad's jobs. On a day the nightclub her mother worked was raided by the police and in the shootout that followed, Zoey's mom got shot and her father was taken to prison. This was the day Zoey got hooked on drugs.

Friends of her father took her in as part of the brothers code. Zoey wanted revenge and worked her magic on the others who enrolled her into SIN. She was given her dad's gun and as she grew more and more familiar with it, she started practicing with two guns. At the moment she is one of the few ambidextrous gunmen in SIN and she rewarded herself with another gun.

Despite looking and acting all tough, Zoey has an incredible weakness to animals which dates back to her youth. When she was little she saved a kitten out of a sewer drainage and later on sheltered many animals from small rodents to dogs and even a deer.

Although she had a good body and works out regularly, Zoey doesn't show much of her body unless she's at the gym or the beach. Normally just wears t-shirts or tops and jeans.

I'm thinking and I sort of created my character with Los Angeles in mind. You know... beach, nice weather, surfing, old convertible cars, some basketball.

OH yeah, a dog is okay as long as it's reasonable. I just don't want to see some pony sized pitbulls or dogs that are as smart as Lassie.

Dasha was right, it's basically an LA type of location. I'm purposely not giving it a specific location. Just assume California coastal city.

... and drugs, burnout buildings, empty high rises, decaying housing projects, burn out cars, abandoned building lots, crumbling old abandoned factories/malls, illegal immigrants from all over the world, and streets so empty in some locations you'd think you were in a ghost town...

Welcome to Line County, the city so poor that after the city went bankrupt it's creditors when bankrupt. The city so poor they don't even put it on maps. The state of California just pretends that Line County doesn't exist. Ten years ago the state of California government passed an amendment that struck Line County from the records books. They don't send funding to it, they include it in any census, they are so ashamed of it's existence that they don't even ask for help to fix it.

Okay, I'm sorry if I'm being nit-picky about things, but I'm still trying to get a handle on this place.  Is all the above to be taken literally?  As much as I'd love to live and work in a place like Line County, the fact of the matter is that I need a paycheck now and then for incidental expenses, like the electric bill and car insurance.  And while I might be okay with putting people in jail for free, I'm pretty sure there aren't many lawyers who would work in the proscutors office (or anywhere else) without a pretty hefty salary involved.

To answer the bolded question. Sure why not... Yes, pretty much. If you look at places like Detroit (real life) you'll see where all government employees, school teachers, police, fire, everyone.. had to take massive pay cuts in some cases going without pay checks periodically but people stayed at their jobs because there is no other work in the city.

This former city (Line County) is worse off then Detroit. It's like all of the bad things in Detroit and LA combined. I've been saying that from the very start.

There are actually other cities besides Detroit in the US that are just as bad as I'm describing. These would be the cities that went bankrupt before Detroit.

*Note: I added the little part about writing them off the map and stuff because it adds some flavor to the desperation of the people living here. After all it's RP, it just adds to the drama.

Quote~ http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/07/18/detroit-isnt-alone-the-u-s-cities-that-have-gone-bankrupt-in-one-map/

All told, 8 cities and towns have filed for bankruptcy since 2010 — and two of the filings were rejected:

-- Detroit
-- San Bernardino, Calif.
-- Mammoth Lakes, Calf. (Dismissed)
-- Stockton, Calif.
-- Jefferson County, Ala.
-- Harrisburg, Pa. (Dismissed)
-- Central Falls, R.I.
-- Boise County, Idaho (Dismissed)

An additional 28 utilities, water districts, hospital authorities, and other municipal units have also gone bankrupt in the wake of the financial crisis.

A question about the lay out of the game Mora if I may?

Will you make seperate threads for each of the clans and one general thread? Or put it all in 1 and make sure we all tag correctly?

Just my two cents, the former set up sounds better. Isn't the maximum number of threads per game equal to half your players?

Also, character sheet is forthcoming, but I have to crash and work again tonight. Off for most of the coming week, though!

Anyhow, in my quest to get a better understanding of the setting and clear up a few things (like how can a city/county that doesn't have any legal standing for its existence have a police department), it appears I've annoyed the person who set up this otherwise wonderful scenario.  She's obviously put a lot of work into it.  I apologize for all my shortcomings and won't be bothering you again.  I'm sure my spot won't be hard to fill.

...

The location is called: Line County  (Line County Police = LCP)

There is no real suburban area unless he was with a different police force from another city. In which case you could say that he came here to really get into the action or something.

Line County is a war zone. If you check out my last post in the recruitment thread, you'll see that the police are front line soldiers.

A good analogy to being a police officer in Line County is less like being a police officer and more like being a soldier in Afghanistan
.

As an officer your equipment is worn out, you maintain everything yourself. There is almost no back up. You are a Black&White soldier fighting a war and trying to find ways to maintain the peace. Well, peace is too good of a word. You are just trying to keep the war from growing out of control.

Every day you get off work and make it home at the end of the night it's a relief. It means you've survived one more day.

.. and yes, please post your interest in the Gangland thread soon.

Quote from: Moraline on September 07, 2013, 01:52:27 PM
You are pretty much correct accept in that Detroit is a lot worse off then you think it is and so are those inner city locations in LA. There will be business areas outside of the place we are playing at and suburbs outside of it too but those are not part of the Line County area where we'll be inhabiting.

I am intending for Line County to be rougher then most modern cities but not by much.

Detroit is Batman's Gotham City without the Bat. It's actually worse then Gotham city because the unemployment rate is around 50%. Stats will tell you it's like 20-30% or something but that's because the majority of people living in the city have stopped looking for work years ago.

For fun, I suggest the documentary, "Detropia." Which to be honest, that documentary paints a sunnier picture of the city then a multitude of other shows from around Youtube will paint for you.

((Check out this video to get a picture of Detroit's police))

This is Detroit:
(junkyard neighborhoods, skyscrapers empty of businesses for decades, and downtown streets you can walk in the middle of during the day and not see a car)

1SAZ

Jonathan 'Jonah' Falk
Faction: Police Detective Third-Grade
Player Name: 1SAZ

  • SIG Sauer P226 9mm
  • Blackhawk Sportster SERPA paddle holster
  • Light undercover ballistic vest worn under his shirt.
  • Steel Handcuffs and key

  • Notepad with a pen slipped through the rings, kept in his breast pocket
  • An odd cross strung around his neck

Hooks:

  • Bassist. And yes, he is very good with his fingers for being one.
  • A huge geek. He has a Glamdring letter opener on his desk, a collection of swords in his apartment, and a bookshelf dedicated to manga and graphic novels. He also has the Green Lantern symbol tattooed on the left side of his chest and a stylized sword with wings on either side tattooed on his right forearm
  • Friendly with the gangs, though they know he is as clean as they come. IA, however, disagrees.
  • Often seen chatting with members of the gangs and reminding them of the LCPD's presence.
  • Regular at the firing range, and instructor for their Self Defense Class for pistol shooters.
  • Has been shot three times in the line of duty, once in the ass
  • Has a particular favoritism to Scotch, and can be found off duty at one of the local bars

  • Hates cats. Don't ask why.

Tales:

  • Born in the middle of the night on February 29th to a former 'model' (porn star) mother and an unknown father.
  • Arrested for breaking and entering at the age of 10, let off with a slap on the wrist thanks to the arresting officer feeling sorry for the kid.
  • Charged with assault after stopping the rape of his mother at the age of 15. Charges dropped once the mother admitted that her client attacked her.
  • Placed in foster care while mother served a five year sentence for drug possession, prostitution, perjury, and theft.
  • Entered LCPD's Officer Training Program upon graduation from high school.
  • Almost expelled from training after a confrontation with another student after student spread about the identity of his mother along with pictures of her during her 'modeling' days.
  • Spent three years as a beat officer before Organized Crimes took notice of his casual acquaintance with both gangs, offering him a position as a detective.
  • Recently demoted to Detective Third-Grade after letting a gang member flee (though his reason was that the crime didn't hurt the civilians and was only $50 and a pack of Menthol cigarettes, and chasing the suspect would probably end in gunfire).

Sexual Preference: Heterosexual
Character Mortality: Yes, death is a possibility

Why did they join the faction that they joined? Jonah wanted to leave the path of crime that he was heading down and his morals led him to the other side of the fence. He feels a strong sense of duty to Line County, and to it's people, whether they are civilians or members of the various gangs.

What do they want out of life? Peace in Line County

How long has their family lived in Line County? At least three generations at this point.

He spent the next two years in jail, missing the birth of his daughter and rethinking his life in the R9s. How long has their family lived in Line County? As far back as he can trace, not that he tried very hard.

But but.... She said we couldn't have pitbulls! :P
LOL.. Pitbulls are fine. Just no pitbulls the size of small horses. In other words, real sized dogs are all okay.

QuoteSo we got a German Shephard and an English Stafford... we should call them Adolf and Winston :P
I approve this message!

Dashenka

Not 100% if it's an English Staff or an AmStaff... It looks like an English though.

Also not too sure if the Shephard would end too well given the historal names and their fates. He might end up OD'ed on Anti Flea.

I was tempted to include my own dog, something similar to Sam from I Am Legend, however I think Seb'll stick with his Ruger ;D

CS still under construction, but here's a little tidbit! I'm jumping on the 'pets with badass names'

His name shall be Iorek, and the dogs shall quake in fear at his ferret-y shenanigans.

You got a german shephard?

Nah, I don't own a dog, I meant a characters dog, if he had one.

If he did have one, I'd give him a husky. ;D

I know. We really want a second dog but not sure which. Actually considering a husky but the problem is the amount of exercise they need.

Lithium

Elira Kadare
Faction R9s, Chief Enforcer
Player Name: Lithium
Description: Age: 31 - Height: 5'5" - Weight: 129 lbs.

Tools:
Hooks:

  • She's not shy or afraid of being crude
  • Treats her work like a business, tries to avoid making it personal
  • ...but God help anyone that pisses her off enough to make it personal
  • Has a lot of pride
  • Drinks pretty heavily without being an alcoholic
  • She can be slightly racist at times
  • Sleeps with a stuffed animal when she's alone

Tales: Elira was born and raised in a ghetto in Albania that might have even made Line County seem like an upgrade. She had hard working parents and a very protective older sister, but life was still rough, each day a struggle just to keep food on the table and wood in the fireplace. Very, very slowly, her family had managed to save up enough money to move out of the ghetto and into a cheap, but still pretty decent part of the city's suburbs - but then all hell broke loose.

Elira was in her mid-teens when the civil war started, a few months before it was officially declared. Different rebel groups started coordinating together against the corrupt government, and nowhere was the movement stronger than in the ghettos, where the oppression and injustice had always been at its worse. Elira's parents got caught up in it, their patriotism leading them to join the rebel cause and put their savings towards purchasing weapons and other gear instead of the home that they'd always dreamed of.

Her older sister, Venera, didn't take it too well. She was firmly against the idea and went off to try to regain the money that their parents had wasted (at least according to her) by working the streets as a lady of the night. Elira was caught somewhere in between, but eventually ended up joining the rebellion alongside her parents once she was sixteen, believing that they were fighting for the greater good.

Four years went by. Elira's father took a hail of bullets to the chest during a firefight with the military, her mother was captured and executed by a firing squad after being extensively tortured and interrogated. Elira lost her sister as well after Venera had battled the HIV that she'd contracted for a year and a half. Having nothing else left to live for, she put all of her anger and focus into the war effort, playing a big role in the rebels' victory where they finally overthrew the higher powers.

She thought that things would finally get better after that, and they did, but only for a short time. It wasn't long before the seeds of corruption germinated and grew once again, stronger than before just like weeds. Only this time, the new leaders had learned from the mistakes of the former ones and operated through more subtle means. Meanwhile, the nation was shattered and the population too exhausted to engage in another war, so things went back to how they'd always been before getting even worse.

Former members of the rebellion broke up into smaller gangs, each of them vying for survival, trying to grab a bigger piece of the meager riches and resources leftover than all the others. Elira herself was too tired and disillusioned to look for another cause, so she did the same as many others, joining one of the gangs on top of offering her services up as a mercenary. Having had more success than most, she built up quite a name for herself - perhaps too much of a name, since she ended up on the police's most wanted list as well as several hit lists on top of it.

When the heat became unbearable, Elira liquidated all of her belongings and put most of her savings towards smuggling herself out of the country. She wanted to go somewhere else, somewhere that she'd be able to have a fresh start, and this time she planned on doing it right so that she ended up at the top and would never have to fear anyone again.

Sexual Preference: Bisexual
Character Mortality: Yes

Why did they join the faction that they joined?: It seemed to her like the stronger of the two gangs in Line County.

What do they want out of life?: Never having to live in fear.

How long has their family lived in Line County?: They haven't.

I've decided that I'm going to pause this idea.
