Hey all,

So as a big fan of The Call of Cthulhu rp, I was just wondering if there would be any interest if I ran a COC game on here.  Nothing set in stone yet of course.  Essentially I would just like to know who would be interested, where/how far would you want the game to go and what era would you enjoy the most?

1890s
1920s

Ooh.  The 1920's, please.  Or the 1890's -- I always like the gaslight angle.  I'd do best with either England or the U.S. for a setting, but I can manage other places.

If it goes as far as Extreme I'm not so interested, but anything up to NC is fine with me.  And it being CoC, death and/or insanity are just to be expected...

Hmm. How... Elliquiy-ish would you want it to be?

I know it's currently UN, but I'm just wondering because I'd rather enjoy a combination of the 1890s setting and your crossdressing / genderbending preference. That might just be me, though...

As a huge fan of Lovecraft, I would be -so- in .. but would have to vote 1920's first, 1890's second.

Any rating level is a-ok with me, up to and including extreme, but NC is fine if others don't want it that far.

Transgirlenstein

As Elliquey as possible more then likely.  I love odd/weird Cthulhu characters..that and I never say no to gender bending ;)

I'd be interested!  Especially if there's a chance of being ravished by abominable supernatural entities :)

There is always a chance ;)

Sounds great!  I'm flexible when it comes to setting but I'm partial to modern Japan.

The Dark Raven

I second Lorelei on the ravishing, but would go for 1890s.  Something about the belle epoque in London, Paris or Chicago just totally makes my engine run...lol

One for modern Japan..1920s and 1890s seem about even.  In fact, 1890s seems the most likely but I have not decided yet so if there are any great great prefences.

Are there plans yet for how the unwary group might find themselves involved with these horrors, whatever the setting might be?

Ah the hardest part of any cthulhu campagain..how to get the pcs together.  I swear, every Cthulhu party of investigators is like a bad joke. "So a hobo, a professor and a rabi go to investigate a cult.."

None as of yet though my favorite to do in a gaslight game (and in modern day japan games) is everyone being a member of a club or corporation.  Sometimes (espeiclaly in 1920s) games I use the characters (so if someone is a pi and someone else is a criminal..).

I will post what I am looking for, don't know how many people I would take on either.

Still interested .. have a character idea if you go for 1920.

Question though.  I have CoC 5th ed. not the most recent.  I have read that there are few changes, but just wanted to make sure.

Transgirlenstein

I actually have the 5.5 book.  I've looked thorugh the 6th edition but like most changes from Chaosium, I didn't see anything that stuck out.  One of the reasons I've alwyas stuck with COC is that they never make any major changes and when they do, its so simple to still use the old product.

Ok, so I got a lot of interest.  1890s and 1920s seem to be tied.

Who would only be interested in a 1920s game and who would only be interested in an 1890s game?

Once I know that, we can continue with character creation and the like

I vote 1920s first, as I noted before, but will play 1890s too.

Valerian

I would slightly prefer the 1920's, but that isn't a deal-breaker by any means.  My CoC book is also 5th edition, actually, but as long as that isn't a big issue, I guess I'm good...

The Dark Raven

I vote 1890s, but that's because I'm lazy....I know the fashion better.  Just let me know what is decided, and I can brush up either way....lol

I don't have any of the books.  Hope that's okay.  Between the two choices, I'd probably say 1920's although Japan remains my fav.

1920s is defeintaly the winner then over Modern Japan and the 1890s.  I'll be out of town Saturday and Sunday but in the meantime whoever is interested can send me the following:

Your character's stats (I would prefear if everyone uses the 100 point build buy.  No score higher then an 18 except Education which can be as high as 21.  Everything else is figured out as normal.  If you decide to have a score of 3 in something for some reason then I would be okay with a stat of 19.  If you just wanna be random and use the dice system then go right ahead).

A backstory/history.  Doesn't have to be long..just give me some idea of who they are.  If you wanna leave something vague then feel free too but I might just use it in some..way then.

A list of three npcs.  These npcs can be friends, enemies, allies, rivals, family or contacts.  Anything from your mother who lives above you to that hooker who works around the corner.  Be creative but try not to go overboard.

Anything particular you are interested in/looking for in the game.  This could be anything from "I wanna get a chance to do something awesome." too "Can I get tentacle raped?" or "Can I not be tentacle raped?"

If you have any questions then let me know.  Pm or im me.

Almost forgot, location and tying everything together.  My thought is this, the game will be set in Arkham, Mass.  The easiest way to get everyone together is to in some way be connected to Miskatonic University.  If anyone wants to be a student then let me know cause there are actual guidelines to playing a student (just stuff like how high certain skills are).

Just cause it is set in Arkham though does not mean that your character has to be from there orignally.  You do not have to play an American but at least make sure your character knows how to speak English (otherwise things will be hard for them).

Cheers

W00t! :)

my character will fit in 100% perfect then, will work her up over the weekend and send her to you. :)

Transgirlenstein

I realized I also have a campgain sitting around (Tatters of the King) i could use.

essentially, it is set in 1920s London, England.  Characters that work the best are intellectuals and artistic types.  You do not have to be English but at least speak it.  Remember, guns are illegal in 1920s London.  If you would like to play a bohemian style character, this campagain is for you!

Darn it, I was away during the vote.

And I've read Tatters, so I should bow out.

Go to Chaosium's website and download the CoC Quickstart rules PDF.  It's free and should be enough, along with trippingsatyr's help to get by with. :)
