Firstly, I'd Like to apologize for the rather long title of my game ( To be titled Vengence Of Angels.)

This is a re-start of a previous Rp that never quite got out of the  planning stage. Too complicated and confusing (I had several tables with multiple d10's plus other numbers). So I'm doing away with that and making it a purely story driven roleplaying experience (no dice).

So lets get down to it shall we? (more information can be found on http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Main_Page#.U5CnPfldVzo )

Background

It is the 41st Millenium and there is Only War. Mankind is beset on all sides from without by the alien, and from within by the the traitor and the heretic. For Ten thousand years the Emperor of mankind has sat on his Golden Throne on Holy Terra. His imesurable psychic powers protecting humanity and the Imperium.
The Imperium was founded by the Emperor, also called The Immortal Emperor, God-Emperor, and the Master of Mankind, at the end of the Age of Strife - a very long period of anarchy, war, and destructive regression which brought humanity to the brink of destruction and reversed the technological progression made during the Dark Age of Technology.
As the Warp storms of the Age of Strife subsided, after having secured the scientific posts and spacedocks of Luna, along with the factories and scientists on Mars, the Emperor began to unite mankind under his rule. A vast navy was built, with which his armies undertook the Great Crusade, which lasted for about two centuries.
During this two hundred year-long military campaign, the Emperor employed his most potent military units, the Space Marine Legions, led by their leaders, the Primarchs. These, combined with the might of the Imperial Army (which was later separated into the Imperial Guard and the Imperial Navy), brought thousands of human worlds together under the Imperium. The Great Crusade ended with the corruption and treachery of the Primarch Horus, the instigator of the Horus Heresy.
The rebellion was fought across the galaxy. Horus, seeking to achieve a swift and decisive victory, led most of the traitor forces in a direct strike at the capital of humanity, in the Battle of Terra. In the final decisive battle between the Emperor and the Arch-Traitor, Horus was slain, leading to the breakup of the rebellion. However the Master of Mankind was himself mortally wounded. According to his instructions he was placed on the life-preserving Golden Throne, where, for nearly ten thousand years, he has remained. Though physically a carcass incapable of movement or communication, his omnipotent will extends across the million worlds of the Imperium, beaming the psychic energy of the Astronomican, soul-binding psychic humans and struggling against the daemons of the Warp. He endures by his undying will, and by the sustenance that only the souls of sacrificial psykers can provide. By the numberless masses of humanity he is worshipped as a god.

Mankind Is largely defended by The Armies of men and war machines of the Imperial Guard (also called the Astra Miitarum). Countless Billions of men and women dying on battlefields literally as numberless as the stars in the night sky in defence of the Imperium and a planet that many have only heard of in legend.

How the Armies of Man traverse the stars is due to the Fleets of starships of the Imperial Navy.

Possible interest in this, will need to give it some thought. I have heard these have trouble really rolling for some reason.
Also, the background part, I have always been under the impression that the Imperial Guard/Navy was not a voluntary service but rather a tithe. Correct me if I am wrong, that is the fluff that I know.

Baalborn87

Can depend on a persons stature in society. Navy Pilots would tend to be high born (to some degree) or have family connections. Also whilst the Imperial Guard is provided man power as a tithe. Some planets have a voluntary system with wages (which are usually sent back to the soldiers dependants).

ArtemisHighmore

Fascinating. I guess I have always just followed the guard. Amazing to see the feats they are capable of in a universe of super soldiers.

BlackNight897

I would be interested; my worry is that I may only be able to post once or twice a week.  Can this posting time work?  I would hate to have people hanging around waiting for my post....and ultimately causing the RP to wither :)

Baalborn87

Shouldn't be a problem to begin with. Would have to see what other players say and how the pace sets itself.

Ollumhammersong

I do love warhammer. I admit to never having tried anything regarding the Imperial Navy but I am game to try.
Hi i'm a polymorphic alien who has taken the form of this signiature to have sex with your pupils, and by the smile on your face I can tell your enjoying it.

Baalborn87

Me neither. Felt it could open some enjoyable roleplay. Do you play the cocksure maverick. Or the by the books guy who spends hours going over textbooks. Or even the noble born who feels its their birth right to be in charge.

Ollumhammersong

I play whoever I feel like doing at the time. usually the archtype I have gone the longest without playing. More often than not though I play fairly religious characters in fantasy and sc-fi realms. I might play the officer this time. Divine right and all that jazz.

Are we purley a Thunderbolt squadron? Ot are the tunderbolts being back up by a lightning or two?

Baalborn87

if only a small interest. Primarily thunderbolts. More interest would probably open more fighter options.

But there's always opportunity to cross train if the need arises.

Thanks:) To be honest...if it does hold up the pace...then there will be plenty of oppurtunities to write my character out.  It can only add to the futility and insignificance that comes with being a part of the imperial war machine.  "...today is a good day!"

Landshark

Hey Baalborn always cool to see a 40k game in the works.
Curious about general layout. Are they purely a fighter wing or are you gonna treat them more like Rogue Squadron fro SW in that they are sent on mission that involve piloting and ground stuff?
Are we in a war campaign vs a particular enemy or does our vessel patrol a set space keeping pirates down or possibly a frontier ship dealing with all manner of stuff.
When you say recruit you mean fresh from home or just new to the piloting corp?

Sorry thats a lotta questions but trust me....there will be more :P

Baalborn87

Hey shark, good to see you again (i think it was you I rp'd chaos with).

At the moment, you are a fighter wing with limited cross vehicle training (valkyries and the such).
Second, you are a new squadron fresh out of the academy on your way to your first assignment (details will be provided on deployment but ship borne rumours are that it invloves xenos).

Landshark

Im sure the answer will be no since this is story driven but any restrictions on homeworlds and such?

Baalborn87

Providing you n give a convincing reason as to why you joined the Imperial Navy. I have no objection. Though you'd be hard pressed for a convincing argument as to why a feral worlder managed to pass the written exams.

Landshark

hehe well yes Sir you are correct there. But reasonable worlds are fine then..good thats what i wanted to know.

ArtemisHighmore

Kind of a rough draft here, hoping it is what you are looking for.

Player Name: ArtemisHighmore
Character Name: William ‘Liam’ Radagest
Call sign: None yet
Nickname: None yet
Age: 20
Sex: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Background: Born on the Bakka Triumveron moon of Grey Harbor, Liam grew up around flying, his father working as a pilot for the Bakka Shipyards that serviced Battlefleet Bakka in the Segmentum Tempestus. Since he could remember Liam had longed to be just like his father, flying around space with nothing but his skills to guide him. Thankfully his father was receptive to this idea and would often take Liam with him on his trips, even allowing the youth to try his hand at the controls, for which he showed a natural ability. Not content to just have his son follow in his steps, Liam’s father encouraged him to look beyond, to seek fame and glory in the Navy, supporting these ideas with history lessons on the fast fleets and the epic battles in which they were involved.

By the age of 16, Liam had a number of years under his belt piloting both atmosphere and space craft, working with his father as he awaited his chance to apply to the Imperial Academy. His acceptance was one of the happiest moments for he and his father, all of their hard work having paid off. Eager to be off and explore the galaxy, Liam had devoted all of his focus into learning to be the best pilot that he could, applying himself to every concept and seeking all of the extra practice he could get. He also became a bit of a hothead, feeling that flying was in his blood and his right, eager to prove it whenever the chances arose.

Dirtythesnapper

I am interested, but am already drawn a bit thin at the moment. I laughed when you said the age was 20-25. The imperial las*nerf*guns ensure they don't live beyond 25.

The Real Imperial Guard
True justice is quite simply the will of the Emperor.

That's just what I'm after. Feel free to add more detail if/when I get enough interest to make character thread.

@dritythesnapper. The age takes into account the years spent training at the academy.

ArtemisHighmore

Oh good. I will think about how I can add to him as we await more interest.

Baalborn87

There usually is a bit of trepidation with 40k themed stuff

ArtemisHighmore

So I have noticed. I think this is the third one I have tried to join.
