Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.

The Grid. A digital frontier. I tried to picture clusters of information as they moved through the computer. What did they look like? Ships? Motorcycles? Were the circuits like freeways? I kept dreaming of a world I thought I'd never see. And then one day...I got in.

In the year 2045, the world has turned inward, to the virtual reality of the OASIS. Its virtual currency is the more stable than any nation's, many of which are on the brink of collapse. Students go to virtual schools. Most adults fortunate enough to still have a job work within the OASIS. Many lovers have never met their soulmate in the flesh, and scarcely even mind the fact. Most of the world learns, loves, and lives in the virtual dreamscape, creating and sharing their own many visions of escape, utopia, or purpose.

OASIS (Ontologically Anthropocentric Sensory Immersive Simulation) is an MMOSG (massively multiplayer online simulation game) created by James Halliday and Ogden Morrow of Gregarious Simulation Systems (GSS), formerly known as Gregarious Games.

The late James Halliday announced in his final will and testament to the public that he had left an Easter egg inside OASIS, and the first person to find it would inherit his entire fortune and the corporation. Internet service provider Innovative Online Industries (IOI) directed massive resources towards this scavenger hunt, seeking control of OASIS and its predecessor, the internet. Nonetheless, the victor of Halliday’s grand game was a mere teenager from Ohio, one Wade Watts, OASIS ID Parzival.

Wade and his team now guide OASIS with a relatively free hand, usually operating out of Ogden Morrow’s ranch in Oregon, which has led to a relative economic boom and flurry of new tech startup activity in the area.

IOI still pursues other technical, legal, and not-so-legal avenues to wrest control of the OASIS and with it, most of the world economy and political speech. Governments around the world, desperate to get new sources of tax revenue or clamp downs on political dissidents, explore various options for regulating for controlling OASIS. Most recently, rumors propagate about a fractal glitch multiplying itself deep within the source code of the OASIS.

Wade maintains his light touch, keeping OASIS relatively decentralized and open to all. For now.

RP system type: Freeform. Player-player fighting/conflict is player-arranged and -adjudicated, GM-mediated as needed. There may or may not be some NPC surprise attacks later on, courtesy of your sexy GM, moi.

RP setting: Near future cyberpunk. Primarily within the virtual world of the OASIS. Primary physical location, if any, will be in Portland, Oregon, which is the suggested physical location of characters wishing to interact in meatspace.

RP fandoms: ALL. The OASIS is known for its relentless amalgam of pop culture references and recreations, especially those from the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Much of Halliday’s competition revolved around pop culture easter eggs, and many OASIS users style their personal avatars and virtual living spaces around pop culture characters and locations. It's not uncommon to see a Hogwarts graduate on a date with a Jedi, or a Blade Runner driving a deLorean with a ninja turtle riding shotgun and two hobbits in the backseat fighting over the radio station.

RP content: Almost all sexual or nonsexual interactions encouraged. Typical customs regarding O/Os and buy-in from fellow players apply. Fighting / conflict is freeform, the general gist or flow of such is suggested to be felt out and agreed on as needed by the players involved. Will be mediated by GM if needed. Humor and pop culture references and cool shit are especially encouraged.

RP locations: There will be one or more (depending on initial group size) virtual starting locations, likely based on iconic pop locations. The nature of the OASIS sometimes allows relatively easy and quick movement among locations (a fire pole in the Ghostbusters’ HQ might lead down to the Batcave, for example), although users cannot simply teleport around within the OASIS. In character sheets (see below), players may create an in-OASIS base/home/lounge for their character (but don’t necessarily expect to spend all your time in your own base - you won’t have much fun if everyone’s just staying in their own).

Avatars: Many OASIS users appear, within the simulation, as realistic or perhaps touched-up versions of themselves. Others assume entirely new wardrobes or appearances, often based on favorite pop culture characters. A user might switch between their real world appearance and several virtual avatars. Players are encouraged to choose one or more avatars for their characters: typical appearances / identities they like to take within the OASIS, perhaps drawn from favorite fandoms. Several players using overlapping fandoms or avatars based on the same character is fine (even a good excuse to interact). If you see other player avatars in common with yours, you may want to work out differentiating ‘skins’ with each other (for example original vs reboot Lara Croft) to avoid confusion (unless you intend to prank or scam others by pulling a switcheroo).

OASIS users generally create their avatars by purchasing them in virtual shops and/or using RPG-like character creation tools. Like creating a good RPG character, this takes a bit of time, meaning that a user cannot simply shapeshift at will mid-conversation into avatars they have never used before.

Some categories, such as gender and physical description and voice timbre, may vary between a character's real person and their various avatars. For example someone who is male in meatspace might use female avatars (and/or male avatars as well), have taller and shorter avatars, a young user might appear as elder Obi Wan or Yoda, and so on. List your character’s meatspace attributes under the corresponding sections (Height, etc.). Then, in the Avatar section, mention any varying attributes you wish to note (especially if they are not obvious from avatar picture references). An example character sheet is further below.

You are strongly encouraged to express interest and post character sheet drafts here in this thread (but you can PM as well if you like), so that other interested players can see whom they might have to interact with.

Janice grew up learning computers and hunting alike (whether wild animals and the occasional burglar in meatspace or virtual orcs and stormtroopers in OASIS arena games), and after in-OASIS university, has made a living as a social media marketing manager for various subsidiaries of a consumer products conglomerate. Janice’s current job based out of Portland suits her just fine: she hosts marketing events, usually inside the OASIS, thinly disguised as parties, raves, or virtual sporting events, featuring whatever latest X-TREME SPORTS DRINK or LE SEXYSAUVE LIQEUR brand she’s being paid to push with interactive and innovative marketing schemes.

In her spare time, she still likes guns. Lots of guns.

Avatars / Fandoms: Janice has three typical favorite avatars.

The first is based on Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, with darker but auburn-tinted haired, and typical attired in skimpy but otherwise rugged clothing such as crop tops, canvas shorts, boots, and utility belts holstered twin pistols. Janice often uses this avatar in the more “realistic” virtual settings based on the 20th or 21st century, with variations on the theme and gear for Western or older settings.

The second is based on Final Fantasy heroine Yuna, usually also a twin-pistol gunslinging attire, but much more whimsical. Janice usually uses this avatar for sci-fi or steampunk or outlandish settings. Yuna has brunette hair and heterochromia: a green right eye and blue left eye.

The third is based on She-Ra, Princess of Power, sister of He-Man, which Janice likse to take on in medieval-fantasy, sword-and-planet, or mythological sword-and-sandals environments. In virtual sparring or arena games, Janice tries to eschew guns in this form, and uses a sword that can shoot pulses of energy. HADOKEN! She-Ra has a bright blonde mane of hair, and stands taller than Janice’s other avatars at 6’2”, not including the valkyrie-style headdress.



Virtual base, vehicles, or possessions of note:

Janice’s virtual home, and the location she uses for hosting many of her virtual marketing events (and, rumor has it, has allowed to be used for weird virtual occult meetings a la Eyes Wide Shut), is styled after an aristocratic English country home, specifically ‘Croft Manor’ as depicted in the Tomb Raider films and games. It has, for the most part, a rather realistic if extravagant interior, with a climbing gym, pool, and many virtual simulacra of historical or pop-culture artifacts, such as the arc of the covenant and the holy grail from the Indiana Jones films. It also has a Japanese style tatami-mat sparring dojo replicating that from The Matrix. The garage has the vehicles Janice usually uses to get around the OASIS: several motorcycles and sports cars, Return of the Jedi forest speeders, and a helicopter on the roof - which usually blares Wagner's Flight of the Valkyries a la Apocalypse Now when piloted. Janice loves the smell of napalm in the morning.

The manor has a garden maze out back, as well as a small barn with some virtual horses, chocobos (ostrich-size yellow rideable birds from Final Fantasy), and Swiftwind, She-Ra's winged unicorn (and yes, Swiftwind *sparkles*). The barn tends to get used for 'parking' by guests who use 'living' virtual modes of transportation such as Dino-Rider dinosaurs.

Physical Description (optional if pic): The masked photo is a publicity photo, and one of the few images of him in reality. He is not a particularly imposing man, in fact, he's slightly chubby. His eyes are very expressive, a trait that carries over to the OASIS. He is broad shouldered and has some muscle beneath the chub.
Voice: In reality, deep and resounding. In the OASIS, he uses a combinations of sophisticated voice changers and his own ability to sound like basically anything he needs to be.
Mannerisms: Has extreme difficulty looking people in the eyes, even in the OASIS. Likes to hum and sing when nothing's happening. Talks with his hands as well.
History: First things first: Matthew has never really appreciated his own body. The masked pic was for a physical magazine, the last one slowly dying, and he wore the mask to "make a point that I could be anyone", for Matthew is in fact a well known musician in the OASIS. His work blends old and new, and he has been commissioned more than a few times to create a cover or a new version of a favorite from decades ago.

Of the thousands of people who know him, very few are even aware of Matthew's real life. To most, he is Circe's_Siren. His success as a musician in the OASIS itself has given him access to resources he might not acquire normally-custom built avatars for one. He has yet to be recognized by Wade or GSS itself, though he's stated he doesn't care about that, instead preferring to create without any clear goal-just do it for the joy of creating.

He feels no shame in donning a female avatar and going off to do, well, anything. While he's had nothing resembling a long term relationship, he has no problem being intimate with others-he figures everyone is using an avatar, so why worry just because yours has a different set of genitals to your physical one?

Avatars / Favorite Fandoms (pics encouraged): Before he was Circe's_Siren, he was the SirenOfIxalan, and one of his first avatars was Lilianna Vess from Magic the Gathering. He still participates in Draft tournaments held in the OASIS, where the cards truly come to life.

Abilities of Lilianna:

As one might expect, Planeswalker abilities are SEVERELY nerfed inside the OASIS. Instant transport is disabled but that's not too bad since it's way more fun to grab a car and go fast. Other players are also considered Planeswalkers for purposes of who Lilianna can target with her spells, so she can only cast things like Murder on NPCs. Even then, she's also tied to a mana bar. Her big edge over other caster types is the fact that she can also use the "loyalty" abilities of her previous card forms, though Matthew can only equip three at a time to her. These abilities are on a separate resource and cooldown, and he tends to keep to the "Death's Majesty" version of Liliana, allowing her to create endless zombies and bring the dead back to life under her control (note: said "dead" is only NPCs that die, however it can also include followers and pets that other players summon)

Eventually he got a free name change and used it to become Circe's_Siren, and with it, purchased a new avatar. At the time he had been spending a lot of time with a lady who used a Tracer avatar, so his was similarly an Overwatch one: D.Va, also known as Hana Song:

Abilities of Hana Song:

Hana obviously has easy and instant access to her MEKA, which has powerful gatling guns, a shielding defense matrix that destroys any projectiles that enter it, mini-rockets, and boosters for temporary flight. When the MEKA is destroyed, she ejects and uses her pistol instead, and can call a new one after some time. If she charges up that ult meter, she can cause her MEKA to self destruct, causing massive damage in a wide area.

His latest, and as of now, most commonly used avatar, is 2B from Nier Automata. As he built this one for combat, it also comes with a machine gun and laser cannon equipped Pod that floats around him in this avatar.

Abilities of 2B

Quite possibly the least complex of all, 2B's abilities revolve around close combat. She has the ability to teleport her equipped weapons to her hands,
allowing for combos that involve throwing her weapons. She can equip two at once, a light and heavy weapon, which are currently the katanas she used in the beginning of Automata. Her Pod is equipped with a rapid fire machine gun and a laser cannon that requires a cooldown when used. This Pod also allows her to "double jump" and float down from high places. It is unknown if this Pod can be destroyed.

Virtual base, vehicles, or possessions of note: Matthew's base is "The Sound Garden", which has a publicly accessible studio that people can enter to jam with their friends. PVP is disabled, and several instances are available so that other jam groups won't interrupt you. Private instances for private groups or for groups that want to put on a show can be purchased from him. The public side of the Sound Garden can be gently customized, though larger requests have to go through him and are usually part of a Private Instance.

The private, only accessible to those authorized part of the Sound Garden looks more like a charming cabin out in Alaska's wilderness. He considers the Alaskan landscape to be one of the most beautiful in the world, and so decided to make his home out there. Of course, a large, sprawling basement allows him to access all of his music creation tools.

For vehicles, he tends to keep to either D.Va's MEKAs or a Flight Unit from Automata.

And for anyone wondering...pretty much all anyone need to know about Ready Player One, for purposes of this RP, is the summary in the first post in this thread. It's a setting that lends itself well to being a 'meta-fandom crossover' platform for other fandoms.

Both of which have access to machine guns. They also appear to be highly modular, so it may be easy for others to pick up 'n' play with them.

Voice: Claire voice is a bit high pitched, but when online she tends to put it through a filter, making it sound a bit like Karen Carpenter.
Mannerisms: Claire herself is a bit shy in person, quiet, though not submissive she tends not to speak up and assert herself. However in the OASIS she’s everything she wants to be. She can be a bit sarcastic, brash, annoying, and talkative when on a job. She knows when someone needs something from her, and enjoys pushing their buttons, no matter what level of society they might be on.

History:

Claire grew up in a relatively normal existence in Dekalb, Illinois. She was generally friendly and outgoing. A bit short, blonde haired and nerdy at times, she never had much in the way of a social circle.  However what she was above all else was bored. Bored with her life on the farm, bored with her mother and father, bored with the lack of prospects that came with having a solid C average, and very few athletic skills. When she graduated she could either work on the family farm, get married, and produce more farmers, or do something else. The OASIS provided her with that outlet.

She started small, like everyone did and it took time and patience, which she found she had in spades when it came to the fictional world. She slowly built up a small virtual business inside the new economy that the OASIS provided. She found that there were many rich, impatient, spoiled users who wanted to level up and level up fast who had very little in the way of friends, and that’s where she came in.

Have a player who has something you want and you can’t beat them, then she was the one to call. Just want to block or prevent them from completing a quest before you do, then she was the one to call. Just don’t ask her to get involved with the Quest nonsense..unless the price is right.

She’s built a reputation of being honest, if not a bit ruthless and incredibly relentless, something of an OASIS mercenary. She doesn’t particularly have a ton of friends inside OASIS, but she doesn’t particularly care either. She never had many anyway to begin with. The credits she earns allow her to live comfortably, if not high on the hog, but she works for every single credit she makes.

Avatars / Favorite Fandoms (pics encouraged):

Claire’s first and favorite avatar is a copy of AndrAIa from the 90s series Reboot. The character by default came with a collapsible trident, which she modified to have energy blasting capabilities, similar to a force lance. The avatar has the ability to survive underwater as well. As of yet she has not modified its clothing. She finds this one fits in almost all settings and tends to use it the most, from Sci-Fi to Fantasy.




Her second, whom she uses when she undertakes a quest that requires more stealth then anything is of the often hyped but never seen Nova, from Starcraft Ghost. Her abilities include a cloaking mechanism, various scanners, and a variety of blades and blasters.






Virtual base, vehicles, or possessions of note:

Claire purchased a replica of the Waverider for her mobile base. It was fast enough to allow her to use as a fighter, but large enough she can keep any loot she chooses to keep on board. She had it modified to include a docked fighter instead of a drop ship, which she can take on smaller excursions with her, or use to “Tag team” if she has someone accompanying her on a quest (Not too often.) She leases space from a small business inside a non-pvp zone aboard a replica JLA Satelliete, which gives her a secure site to store her vehicle when logged out. 

Her ship is over seen by a hologramatic Rommie, from the show Andromeda (Replacing Gideon), and maintained by dozens of NPC Exocomps, from Star Trek The Next Generation (More expensive in the short run but saves from larger fees later on for ship repairs later.)
She owns two different fighters currently, which she swaps out given her mood: A F-302 from Stargate and a Starfury from Babylon 5. She only currently has two ground vehicles, a Light Runner from Tron Legacy and a 1990 Harley-Davidson FLSTF “Fat Boy”, an exact replica of the one used in Terminator 2.

She has an item she keeps on whatever avatar she might be playing, that was dropped on one of her best raids, a collapsible space suit, which expands out from a wristband. She wears this no matter which avatar she is in.

She has a smattering of random Pop Culture weapons, both purchased and dropped, depending on her moods to use them. Her best drop was a Virtualizer from VR Troopers, which allows her to transform once every 3 days into a near indestructible version of the Ryan Steele trooper, also known as Metalder in japan, for a time period of 1 minute. There are only 3 of these Virtualizers in the entire OASIS (One for each trooper.)

Oh yes, I think 2B's flight unit and Clarie's fighter craft will go together nicely, and may have to be worked in.

And are very much in the spirit of the source material (which had Transformers / Gundam etc. being piloted by its main chars).

If it helps anyone percolate ideas about their characters and/or first posts, the likely starting location will be as follows: your characters, in their OASIS inboxes, will be receiving drawn-at-random (...or were they?) tickets a la Willy Wonka golden tickets (or the Fifth Element FLOSTAN PARADISE! contest) to a marketing event (think a movie premier pre-screening, album release party, or similar event) at Croft Manor. Your chars' flight craft, motorcycles, etc. are one way they might choose to arrive in style. Valet optional.

Arriving on foot will work too. Much of the OASIS simulation has highly interconnected geometry (doors and Stargate-like gates which seem to lead from one place to another) and, for example, characters' bases may have pre-installed doors that lead to more 'urban' parts of the simulation, or to friends' bases, etc. (such as the Ghostbusters / Batcave fire pole example in the posts above). Jut outside Croft Manor there will be a 'fast travel point' of this type for chars who arrive in that fashion (esp if on foot) from more densely populated parts of OASIS.

There will be more forthcoming information about post header styles (to denote the where, when, and who-you-are-tagging) of posts, time passage within the RP, etc. and the usual things like an char sheet thread, OOC threat, and IC thread (possibly multiple for different locations if the group is big).

Excellent question.

OASIS is somewhat like an ultracomplex MMORPG, it does have a virtual currency (which is exchangeable with meatspace currencies, and in fact has become the most popular currency) which can be (and often is) used for in-OASIS goods and services such as vehicles and bases. Additionally there is a crafting system and, to some extent users are able to create their own things and get more bang for their virtual buck by putting in a lot of time and sweat equity. (Sort of like building stuff in Minecraft, or designing the schematic for 3D printing a particular object.) And actually yes part of the particular backstory I have planned is that Wade & team are in the process of trying to improve the overall virtual prosperity by improving tools and access for creating/copying/modifying things.

Also worth noting that there can, and frequently are, multiple or similar copies of the same thing (especially from very popular fandoms) here and there in the OASIS, for example a number of users might have their own versions/copies of Bilbo Baggin's home of Bag-End. (IIRC there was a plot point in the book where they had to figure out which of 256 copies of the Tyrell Pyramid from Blade Runner was the one they sought.)

For purposes of the RP I have so far kept this rather abstract, and did not delineate a specific per-player budget limit or anything (and this isn't a system RP, in part b/c I don't think there's any system that could handle the sheer variety of possibilities without lots of homebrewed stat blocks for particular things, and fairly pricing every possible item would be a fool's errand, etc.). Naturally I may step in an ad hoc basis if someone declares their char owns half the virtual real estate of the OASIS or whatever.

Mannerisms: Quite for the most part, Benny doesn't like getting involved unless he has to or is absolutely necessary. He is an easy going guy the type who stays on the fringes unless circumstances dictate other wise. When he has to though Benny is all business and can usually move in and direct every one pretty easily.
History: Benny was never rich or had a good life. He was born in the stacks to two hard working parents who didn't have the time for him much less his four brothers. He did his best to learn as much as he could about living in this world. He became a somewhat successful thief as a teen at least until he was shot outside of a broken down seven eleven when he was fifteen. One botched medical procedure later (who has good health insurance these days?) and Benny was alive but without the use of his legs.

While this would have caused some people to bite the old bullet Benny decided to use it to his advantage. He worked out a deal with a medical company to get set up with his own home in the stacks and his own OASIS rig. The medical company was looking for people to research the effects of being in the Oasis on a paraplegic. The testing is funded by one of the many facets of the OASIS to draw more people in further and make sure they never want to leave. Benny knows morally the company is bad but frankly does not care.

Kyle was a bit on the smart side as a kid, genius actually. OASIS schooling gave the North Carolina kid a chance to excel in ways he might not otherwise have. Gifted in programming, world design and mathematics, he won a scholarship -full ride- to MIT by 17. Where he met his best friend ever, Jake Styles. Jake was the perfect foil for the skinny introverted kid from Small Farmtown, NC. Athletic, just as sharp in math and nearly as good in OASIS world design; the two worked together both in/out of school . They were clue hunting together, looking for the Easter egg.

Then Kyle got lucky.  He found James Halliday’s logs for the year before he died. Every where he’d been in OASIS, At 19 he literally was on the cusp of finding the first clue. He only told one person about the logs. Jake.

He work up in the middle of the night to the sound of collection agents hammering on his door about his new debtor status. He knew immediately someone had sold him out, Jake, and that he about to become the indentured servant of IOI. He tripped his system’s protections, watched as terabytes of data on the Haliday Easter Egg went up in smoke and he vanished into the debtor prison system that kept him a prisoner for three years.

During that time two things happened; the first was that Wade Watts and his friends  found the keys, the second was his uncle Felix died and left him everything. Including the remains of a well invested lotto ticket. He was free as soon as the inheritance posted to his accounts. Twenty years of potential debt slavery washed away.

With freedom and money came perspective, with the end of the Hunt came a bit of relief. Watts was a good guy and he could care less about the slim chance his clues could have put him in that spot five years early if he hadn’t been betrayed.  He created a new OASIS identity and set up a business while working to ‘break’ a few of his friends out of their debts and into lives that they could enjoy. Catching up on his schooling and the state of the art of online design. Looking for Jake.

History: From the moment she was born Anne was a little special, for years her parents had tried with little success to get pregnant they had gone into dept trying several courses of IVF. None of it worked and the Loveitt's had given up having a child of their own,so they had adopted a little boy who became their whole world. Jack had only been with them a few months when Rachel found out she was pregnant. The couple were delighted and thing were going well...until a complection meant that Anne was born before she should have been. So the baby spent the first six months in intensive care, Rachel, her husband Pete and little Jack visiting every day. The day the Loveitt's could take Anne home was a happy one and the complete family spent two whole days of bliss together.

Then something happened little Anne began to struggle to breath her skin going an alarming shade of red, the family rushing her to the hospital and all sorts of test were done and the baby was but in an ice bath to cool her feverish skin. It turned out that because her immune system hadn't fully developed Anne had hyper allergies to nearly everything. She could go out but only for a short period of  time and had to be completely covered from head to foot. So the youngster was home schooled and found it very difficult to make friends, so she made her own creating an imaginary network with who to play with.

This built Anne into a slightly crazy young woman who had a tendency to talk to herself, so when she got OASIS, it was the opportunity to make her dream home and job. Anne loved animals and nature. She wanted to travel the world and see different places. So her farm also has minute replicas of the top sights around the world i.e. the pyramids, Taj Mahal and so on. Even though Anne is restricted in real life by where she can go and what she can do she is very knowledgeable in many different subjects.

The first is based on Ruby Red from Jumanj: Welcome to the jungle, Ruby has a smoking hot body which she show of in tight crop tops and shorts. Ruby is an expert in karate, Tai'Ch, Aikido and Dance Fighting. This avatar is used in more modern settings.


The second character is based on Sargent Calhoun and this avatar is used for the more sci-fi and steam punk settings. As this avatar she has access to lazor guns and an shit ton of detonators.

That's right. Primarily in-OASIS (perhaps exclusively so; so far each character is in a different meatspace city. Commercial air travel etc. are still a thing though.) 

Related to that point, the History char sheet section doesn't have to be very elaborate; half the point of the OASIS is it doesn't matter that much who you are in RL. Some users like to talk about their meatspace selves while inside the OASIS and/or have avatars that look more like themselves, others prefer to keep the identities more separate.

btw it's not strictly necessary to cover different genres with a character's avatars (and you don't have to have 3), and the vast majority of the simulation does not have any strict limits on who can enter or in what form (people's private areas might). For most users, it's simply style or preference that they may shift avatars to fight local themes.

His nanny was the closest he had to a mother. After he graduated his mother and father gave him a sizeable sum of money. It was time he had to live on his own and kicked him out of the house. He just had the credit card and the clothes he was wearing.
he could have done all the wrong things with that amount of money but instead he bought himself a nice apartment, and invested in his own OASIS rig. The rest of the money he put on a savings account. he didn't have to work another day in his life, but that became dull in a while. That's why he started spending more and more time in OASIS.

Her face remains mostly unseen behind a containment mask and breathing filter, though beneath she is lavender weathered with lines of plum, freckled with mica like glittering scales. Three fronds fold back over her head like an ice queen's crown over cords of black hair.

Yes, I really liked things like Matthew's music production or Claire's settlement claim that explain their means / lifestyle and connect them to a virtual economy. (Isn't strictly necessary for sheets, but it looks like everyone has one, which is cool, for example most recently Tacita's acting career.)

These sheets are lookin' mighty fine, and we definitely have critical mass. We may start within the next few days...but if you're just peeking in or still doing a sheet, no rush, I plan to leave recruitment open for awhile, (well unless we get an absolutely huge number before then), at least through the movie's opening in a few weeks, since I suspect that will bring a wave of interest. And again, there's no need to be familiar with the source material...all you need to know is literally in the first post of this thread.)

Those gifted in multitasking and/or with high kinesthesia can comfortably use an increasing number of limbs, with Sarah herself holding the record for independently moving twelve limbs at once.

As a result of her success she now lives in a comfortable apartment in the city and has far more advanced systems and development software with which to design the Avatars she sells. Many corporations still seek learn her proprietary code for their own use.

Another red-head named Sarah, this Avatar was one of the first she developed and holds a special place in her heart. As such she hasn't sold it to anyone else. But only Sarah's take gives the user full and independent control of the zerg 'wings' for an unmatched level of mobility and versatility.

A massive 'Mothership' class vessel from the game series of the same name, The Great Harbor Ship of Bentus is Sarah's digital home... and one of the largest mobile constructs ever to be modeled in the OASIS. As the inside of the massive ship is never shown, Sarah has taken liberties in it's design to provide herself with a virtual home that can contain anything imaginable... even entire cites.

StarViper-class attack platform

This super-heavy fighter craft is Sarah's go-to craft on those occasions when she need to blow something up. With heavy shields, thick armor plating, two twined heavy laser batteries, and two proton torpedo launchers it's move heavily armed and armored then most corvettes while only requiring a single crew member. Sarah's personal vessel has been modified to have seating for two, though it's an extremely close fit... just the way she likes it.

Audi RSQ

The sporty, self-driving car from the movie "I, Robot". Sarah's model comes with a more advanced AI, armor plating, and color-changing 'smart paint'.

Voice: Charming and charismatic more often than not, he can adapt his voice to fit the needs of his current avatar. Most of the time, however, he simple comes across as the confident and brave "good guy" in the situation.
Mannerisms: Social, he likes to style himself as one of the players that can be turned to when someone needs help. This is largely in an effort to make up for most of the things he has to do in meatspace--but it doesn't change the fact that in OASIS he tried to be a hero, as shown by his typical avatar choices.
History: There's really no way to mince words about it--Chris is a hacker, and a fairly prominent one at that. In his younger days he was a black hat hacker, taking advantage of the crumbling society of the real world to have all the fun he wanted. He picked on businesses, governments, random people on the street...He wasn't a very good guy. In the digital age, cyber mercenaries were in high demand, and he styled himself as one of the best. And it all came to a head when, on the death of OASIS creator James Halliday, he was approached by Innovative Online Industries to become one of the Sixers in looking for the Easter Egg. It sounded fun--so why not?

He was in for a rude awakening. In his hunt for the egg, he started to see the effects that what he was doing were having on real people outside of the game. Notably when IOI began to hunt down and kill people outside of the game, using some of his own hacking methods to track players down. Facing a moral crisis, he tried to quit...and IOI went after him. Managing to evade them, even as his defection came at a painful personal cost, as the hunt for he egg ended in Wade Watts taking ownership of OASIS, Chris took what he knew about IOI's actions to the government.

Now a white hat working on a tenuous basis with the government (mainly to avoid prison himself) he still logs into OASIS regularly. Having changed his handle since his more notorious days, he looks for any remaining Sixers that he knows are out there hiding under different handles, to bring them to light for what they did in the Easter Egg hunt. And if he can make up for some of his own actions along the way, well, that's a bonus. As such he's developed a bit of a reputation as a "fixer" of a sorts, if someone has a problem. Avatars / Favorite Fandoms:

One of his preferred avatars of choice is a throwback to Chris's childhood--as at his core, he likes to try and cling to some semblance of the past, when things were so bad and painful and guilt-ridden. There's the seeming age-old Internet saying of "Always be youseself, unless you can be Batman--then always be Batman" that he takes small offense to. Why not be Superman? A symbol of hope, justice, truth, and all the other things that he certainly wasn't in past years?

The inspiration for his OASIS handle, Superman is his most common avatar, fitting in most any setting and situation. And if the traditional Superman doesn't fit, he has back-ups of redesigns and alternate versions to fit in, such as a fantasy Superman. Fitting his online personal of being charismatic and heroic, it's not often that he switches. But there are the times and occasions where the avatar simply doesn't fit, and so he has several back-ups and alternates. After all, sometimes it just isn't worth the accusations and grumblings that the avatar of one of the most powerful superheros ever is just a grandstanding attempt to be self-important and OP in a game.

Boba Fett is his next most used avatar, either for sci-fi settings or when he's following in the character's footsteps and hunting down any Sixers he knows are still out there, and managed to escape Watts's purge after claiming the Easter Egg and control of Oasis. Just as he acts as a hero when using his Superman avatar, he's more quiet and "cold" when playing the bounty hunter. Not speaking as much and preferring to solo-play. It doesn't stop him from some of his typical tendencies, however, and he's still just as likely to step in if he sees a player being a bully in some manner in OASIS. But where Superman is for more social- or team-orientated situations, Fett is better suited for stealthier or one-man situations. Also, Fett serves as a better avatar for Chris's preferred past-time in OASIS--fighter pilot combat sims.

His personalized, custom avatar is saved for when he plays with the few he's met he considers "friends" or is close enough to he may actually have met them out in meatspace--or very rarely when on official work. Saved typically for fantasy setting, he also has a modern/futuristic/cyber-punk loadout for the avatar. And, like most men, the freedom provided by the Internet and OASIS has tempted him to...experiment...with some things. As such, he has an alternate, female version of most of his avatars--his preferred ones being Power Girl for Superman, Samus Aran for Boba Fett, and a stylized sorceress for fantasy or high fantasy settings. He spoofs his handle when using his female avatars, however, just to avoid any awkwardness in the event he bumps into someone he knows. Sometimes it's just fun not having to be himself, after all.

Well I figured even a gun nut like Janice wouldn't be able to keep up with the speed shooting of someone with six arms! She can fire two handed and still have three guns out at once! History: Darlene moved a lot as a child. As the daughter of an american politician she never seemed to be in the same country for more than a few years as he travelled Europe and brought her along. As a result she never really had that many close friends growing up. Sure it was fun enough to hang around the other ambassador's children but it quickly wore her out.

Eventually she turned to Oasis as a means to escape everyday life and quickly found the friends and community she had been looking for as a child. Now working a day job at the embassy in Berlin she takes every chance she can to go back to the Oasis, eager to make new friends and have new adventures.

Lately she has been having a lot of fun going to discos and parties using this avatar. While the avatar does allow her to levitate as well as shoot energy blasts she usually uses another avatar for combat situations.



Whenever a situation requires her to join in battle or go on a mission of some type she springs for Meryl Silverburgh. Being an enhanced soldier from the Metal Gear, the avatar allows for enhanced combat capabilities. It mostly just becomes a sort of aim assist whenever she's shooting her guns.



Darlene has a final avatar in the form of Ada Wong, altough she has never actually used it. She has yet to find an appropriate situation to wear it, and mostly keeps it around as a back-up.

Darlene only has a small base in the form of an exact copy of Mulder's office from The X-Files. It is her most secret nerdiest sanctum and few have been invited back to see it.

I haven't decided if I'm going to throw a character into this or not, BUT I am definitely tempted.  The only thing holding me back currently is that I'm already in a few games, (one of which I'm running with Mannik), so I've got enough going right now.  Having said that, I might at the very least make a character and put it aside for a rainy day if that's alright with you guys, otherwise I'll not bug ya.  :D  Either way, while I haven't read the book, I DID start it once and just never finished it.  I want to though, especially with the movie coming out.

If I DID make a character though, chances are I'd pull Princess Zelda's more Hyrule Warriors style as far as her combat/abilities are concerned, for one of my avatars I mean lol.  Beyond that I don't know yet, but again, I'm definitely interested.  Good luck though FF!

This looks interesting. I read the book several years ago and loved it, since I knew a lot of the references as I was a serious gamer in the 1980s... Well, here goes. Hopefully this suits:

Mannerisms: Hiro tends to play a sort of calm, Zen-like detachment, and it takes a lot to rattle him. He tends to be taciturn and sullen, and it takes a lot for him to trust people.
History: Hiro's father was a black United States Marine assigned to Yokosuka who had married a Japanese woman. He had been killed in action before Hiro's third birthday, and his mother had been disowned by most of her family, and neither did his father's family care much for them, so they had a difficult life with only her war widow's pension and what part-time jobs she could get to support them both. Hiro's maternal grandfather was the only other family member who accepted him, and he taught him kendo, which Hiro eventually became rather good at.

Hiro's distinctive appearance led to him being discriminated and bullied in school, at least until he attained a respectable level of skill in kendo, although that still left him effectively ostracised by most of his peers till he finished high school, and he had almost no friends there. He thus retreated into otaku hobbies, not least of which was the OASIS, and made many online friends in the Japanese OASIS community, only a few of whom he managed to meet in real life, since many of them were eccentrics or shut-ins who never left their homes. He is currently attending the University of Tokyo and is in his senior year as a computer science student.

Voice:  Despite living in the city among many disenfranchised youths and the like, Julia is very respectable and speaks clearly, coherently, without much of the slang that's prevalent in her neighborhood
Mannerisms:  Julia was raised to be respectful and kind to any and all people she came into contact with.  She is firm but fair, some could even argue wise beyond her years, but she's able to smile freely and laugh openly among her good friends and family.
History:  Like many that number among the 'Missing Generation', Julia was born in a time where people like her had nowhere they could really go save to the OASIS.  Unlike many looking to escape their lives or to make something of themselves in a world that could be anything they wanted, Julia had bigger plans.  She attended school, made friends in and out of the virtual world, and actually strove to make a difference in reality so many tried to escape.  Her family, her parents specifically, were and are still very active in their community, despite some stiff opposition from less than reputable people, but even they can agree that if not for the O'Donnels' doing what they can to improve the lives of their neighbors, things in the Bronx would be far worse than what they are now.  Growing up in such an environment where they give so much of themselves, Julia too strives to be a positive, guiding force for everyone she meets, regardless if it's in or out of the OASIS, which she admits she spends more time than she should inside.  Still, it's not at all uncommon to find her surrounded by a group of kids half her age as she tells stories and tries to leave a lasting, good impression among those she can reach.  When she isn't babysitting, she's usually busy finishing up her class work to be a dedicated mechanical engineer, hoping to raise bridges, both literal and otherwise, as well as offer far more affordable, cleaner living for people that are far less fortunate than she's been in life.  For now, the OASIS has actually been a pretty good testing ground for many of her building designs, of which she's helped create many in her little corner of the net.

Having been raised around the classics, one of which was the legendary Robin Williams, and all that he too enjoyed in his time, her father introduced her to the Legend of Zelda, of which she's seen pictures of Robin's daughter during a LoZ commercial back in the day.  The comparison between them is striking, to say the least, but one of her avatars naturally lean towards the Princess of Hyrule, the reincarnated heroine who has only become more capable the deeper into the timeline one goes.  The Triforce of Wisdom is proudly worn on Julia's right hand when she uses this one, but like most things in the OASIS, the myriad of abilities one can find attached to Zelda's name has been toned down to give others more of a fair chance against her and vice versa.  Besides being a competent swordswoman in this form, Zelda is also a master archer, combining her divine magics to augment her already deadly accuracy.  (Light based magics, healing, barriers, enchanted/limitless arrows, etc.  No precognition without GM input or anything else that might be 'game breaking').



To continue the trend of her royal fetish, Julia found the wonders and magic of the Final Fantasy franchise after one of her then new friends introduced himself as Zidane from Final Fantasy 9.  As such, it didn't take her long to discover Beatrix, the Rose of May, the General of Alexandria's all female knights, and the protector to the Princess Garnet til Alexendros.  The rest is history as they say.  With her sword, Save the Queen in hand, Julia has carved a name for herself as one of the top swordswomen in the OASIS, although whether it's because of her own skill or because of her legendary sword itself, no one can say for sure.  (It's her, not the weapon that makes her so strong.)



To finish Julia's triumvirate, Emily Kawldin, daughter to the late Empress Jessamine Kaldwin of Dishonored 1 and 2 fame.  While she'd never admit to it, Julia may or may not have written some fan fic about Lady Emily and a certain Black Eyed Bastard when she first discovered the franchise from days gone by.  That aside, like the other royal protectors and royals in her list of preferred avatars, Emily is more than capable of standing on her own merits, even without the Mark on her right hand that gives her similar if nerfed down versions of the Outsider's powers.  When she needs to enter or exit an area without being noticed, or seen at all, this is the form she calls upon first and foremost.

Every princess needs a beautiful and loyal steed, and Epona serves Zelda more than adequately when her Champion and Hero of Hyrule isn't around to ride the roan haired beauty himself.  Epona is fast enough to contend with even the likes of Shadowfax, and she is valiant and brave much like Link himself.  Do not underestimate this incredibly intelligent and ancient horse who is as wild and free as the land she strives to protect in her own way.



Beatrix, thanks to the gift of the Dark Matter received during an 'item quest drop', has been given the ability to summon Alexander, he who passes Holy Judgment upon all those that would do her or her friends harm.  The mechanical Aeon might be weaker than his in-game appearances, but even in the OASIS, no one would anger her without being too sure of themselves with this thing ready to be brought down upon them.  (Only usable once a day.)



As is true to her namesake's home, Dunwall Tower is a homage to all things Dishonored and Dishonored 2.  Unlike most of these structures within the OASIS however, Julia recreated the place herself, while also including a few personal if lore friendly additions to the impressive palace that once resided within the heart of the Empire of the Isles.  It is here that she is able to put her feet up and just relax as she tinkers with various projects, both for school, and for her personal enjoyment.



On's:  It really depends on her mood at the time, but most days, if she's passing herself off as Zelda, Julia's tastes run far more in the vanilla, with her kinks and desires growing more varied the further down one goes in her Avatar list.  (See RP Preferences for the rest.)

To people not from England or even not from his particular area of England, he would sound if anything typically British with a very PR way of saying things. However, the dialect is notably local to him, slang, curses and whatnot are common for him, as are the more exotic British curses.
Mannerisms: Usually polite, but terse and unwelcoming when stressed. Prone to trying to get a laugh out of people and something of a sarcastic git.
History: As a distinctly middle-class chap in one of the more well off areas of the Black Country (it exists, google it), Brian has had it relatively easy until now. He went to school, passed his exams with decent enough scores and then went on to college. That's where the difficulty starts. College wasn't all it was cracked up to be, and with the prospects of university already being low Brian gradually just gave up instead, turning to the OASIS for entertainment and a social life. The fact that he stood the chance to make the odd quid here and there certainly helped that decision.

One of Brian's chief passions is and always will be history. It may not exactly be a fandom per se, but it has heavily influenced the choice of his primary avatars. With one notable exception, if he can get away with it, he will apply a historical avatar. As such, his favourite and the one you will most likely find him wandering around the OASIS in is an avatar of Woodes Rogers, perhaps the most successful pirate-hunter of all time.



And while there are many franchises, series and whatnot that Brian adores, the only other one that he uses as a source of avatars is the one from where he derives his OASIS ID, Warhammer 40K. Ever a fan of the Imperium of Man, Brian will jump at the opportunity to make use of his Commissar avatar. While others view them as monsters or as team-killing assholes, Brian cannot help but love the look of them. That and they have a very swanky hat.

As a base, Brian employs an admittedly extravagant country estate right from postcards of England, you simply can't fault centuries of taste. To acquire such a nice base of operations, Brian had to go through the daily grind of gaming for at least two years to afford it, happily abandoning his previous base of a very small apartment he'd won in an impromptu sword duelling competition, he counted himself lucky they were only using smallswords.

His family runs a small convenience store, and he occasionally gets drafted into helping there, running the register, stocking shelves, unloading trucks, what have you. His parents do pay him when that happens, which is how he’s managed some of the upgrades to his possessions in OASIS.

It doesn't look like much outside, but it's much bigger on the outside, and it moves. The "key" to the TARDIS is an incredibly high encryption password Gabe has put a lot of work into.

Airwolf with some elements of Blue Thunder -- as it was described on the show, Airwolf is "A Mach plus attack helicopter that can kick butt." It has an impressive array of weapons, is incredibly fast, and has decent armor. Gabe also imported a few elements from the other 80's helicopter show, Blue Thunder, including a lot of sensors, cameras, and a whisper mode.

History: Mallory was around 20 years old when the event of the OASIS occurred, with the balance of their virtual world at stake to whoever found the egg. Originally a person that went to the OASIS to simply meet new people and interact with others while she lived in her boring town within California, she felt that she had to do something, in order to keep her safe haven from disappearing. With enough power as she could muster, she helped some of the resistance, along with many others, by becoming th fighting force to their ever growing army. The day was win, and celebratory in their victory, Mallory went back to her relaxed lifestyle within the OASIS, making two new avatars and dong whatever she could to enjoy her world that she helped save. Despite her care free worries, she does have the obligation of working i normal society, having a job at a cafe as a waitress in order to fuel her monetary habits to live.

Being a fan of the Final Fantasy series, Mallory tends to use avatars of characters that she played and connected with. She uses the avatar of Serah Farron when she does combat situations, as well as for simply having fun.



For more fancy and high end meetings and situations, she tends to use an avatar from Final Fantasy XV, of the character Luna. She loves the appearance of the character, especially the clothes and designs she has for her outfits.







Comic books were always something of a past time for Mallory when she was a young girl, and the Batman series was something she especially loved. Relating to the character of Barbara Gordon, she always wished she could be Batgirl one day, and be a hero that strives for justice and to help others in need. Mallory custom made this avatar to have the outfit and weapons of the coming book character of Batgirl, but molded the avatars apperance to nearly resemble herself, down to the beauty mark under her left eye.

Mallory’s base is a replica of a section of Altissia, a lavish city in the realm of Final Fantasy XV. The beautiful architecture and weather cycle of day and night makes the base, and the surrounding areas, beautiful and exciting to explore, with even a small dock near her base that has section of beach for fun times when she wishes to relax. Persistent grinding and saving funds in OASIS is what got her the base, and she couldn’t be happier with the result.





Posessions:

Mallory, in all three of her forms, uses a NPC animal companion mod based around a Moogle. It helps find items for her while she’s on missions and hunts, holds said items, and also alerts her if another OASIS user is nearby.



On's: As her Luna avatar, she tends to go more vanilla, lovemaking and foreplay the norm. She does tend to go farther down a list of kinks and such if her partner is willing. As Batgirl and Serah, Mallory does still have her tendencies towards vanilla sex, however she does love the idea of being dominated, as well as her secret kink of anal; all three of her avatars are fans of the latter, being her secret addiction.

I general I would encourage you to only do so if you're sure you have the bandwidth/energy to pour into both though (better one fleshed out and frequently-posted-for character than two less-so). With the avatars, one character could masquerade as several anyway (they just can't be in multiple places at once) and avatars can vary by gender and other parameters.

But if you do have the bandwidth for two, then sure.

History: Sakurako Miyazaki has always a rather meek and quiet individual. She recently moved to Portland to hopefully find a nice place to peacefully hide away in her home without any fear of interruptions. The shy bookworm always enjoyed coding and thus has always thought of the OASIS as her personal home since delved into it to escape her bully-filled school life back in middle school. It didn't allow her to completely escape those issues, but in a world of technology and pop culture, she thrived.

The Den-Liner (both her base and vehicle) has been the earliest artifact she has ever owned. It functions as a flying, highly armed bullet train with a nice amount of personal living space. The front car is dedicated to piloting the craft with the bizarre control scheme of using the Machine Den-Bird as the input device. The second car holds a personal cafe. The remaining cars act functionally as large display cases for all of her stuff (mostly previous gear relating to her past avatars and a bunch of other anime and Kamen Rider memorabilia).


The Machine Den-Bird is Poppy's personal motorcycle for when a big honking train wouldn't be the most practical transport.


The Buggle Visor Zwei is currently Sakurako's personal weapon of choice. It canonically functions as 2-in-1 chainsaw and energy blaster, but she has modded its screen to act as a secondary GUI for her personal menus. When not in use, it's stored upon her belt buckle.

The very first IC post (Ruby Rhod) has the where- and why- of the initial scene of the RP. Read the very first IC post, which is short (Ruby Rhod's party invite) to get an idea of the who-what-where-when-why. Your character will be one of the golden ticket winners (as are they all). The party has been crashed by some dinosaurs (now dealt with) and orcs (cleared from the main room but still running through the halls).

Hey I've got an idea - you could add your character to the library where I did a recent post - showing the cast of Clue and Clueless who were having cigars and brandy and, well, playing Clue - they were relatively unaware of / insulted form the chaos in the main hall, so that provides an explanation for where your character has been. Or he could simply be a late arrival to the party who's just rolled up out front.

Physical Description (optional if pic): Muscular and athletic due to programming his Oasis rig to not allow him to log on without proper exercise and taking in the proper calories he is the type of man you would see in real life and think that man is a pro mma fighter or a football star.
Voice: Unlike the man you would see his voice is rather light and soft often being mistaken without visual cues to be female. Having delt with this all his life Richter has grown to embrace the feminine side of life in the Oasis. Who would know otherwise right?
Mannerisms: Rather Shy and soft spoken Richter has a introverted way he holds himself. While not afraid to stand up for his friends what few he has the man would not be found in a party willingly. While he has fought quite regularly in gladiatorial pvp matches which his expertly kept physique has helped him win hes not one to party afterwards.
History: Richter, a Gunter from back before Parzival found the first key, and one of the few whom could state to be a real Gunter. Born July 4th, 2025 the boy grew up in a rather rundown mobile home within one of the many Stacks across the country. When he was born, the game known as OASIS had already recovered the money lost within the creation of it, and and thus his parents were both employed in the game. Richter gained his first headset and gloves at the tender age of five, when he was enrolled into one of the many schools within the OASIS proper. From then on, like many of the people in this world, he was raised and taught within the OASIS more than he was at his house. His family, albeit kind and loving, had to put the game before him at times to make their ends meet and put food on the table.

Through his schooling, the young boy was a Freshmen in the OASIS high school when Halliday died. Distraught, he was among the many that became a Gunter to find the hidden Easter Egg that the rather recluse creator made. Pouring endless hours over the Almanac, he could recite quotes and facts at will, and though looked down upon for being a Gunter, he never faltered. His parents, having found out about his obsession, made it a rule that he would be allowed to partake in his time, so long as he kept up on his studies. It was hard for him to do, but he did do it, and graduated with honors at the age of Eighteen.

It wasn't until he was moved out of his house, and into his two bedroom Flat in Salem, Oregon that the first key was found by a Gunter Named Parzival. Soon after Followed by Art3mis, Aech, Daito, and Shoto, the top five scoreboard leaders of the OASIS. Richter berated himself for a time, not being the first Gunter to find the keys, and due to the flux of IOI sixers, his screen name at the time was never found on the leaderboards. Throughout the next five months of lull between the first key and the second key, the PvP fighter tried his best to pour over the Almanac again and again trying to figure out what he had missed. When Art3mis found the Jade key, he accepted the fact that they had that special spark. It was an insight that he could not compete with.

It was by this point that Richter, like many of the other Serious Gunter looking for the keys, had his own state of the art haptic suit and visor. Unbeknownst to Richter though, he, like Perzival, had taken to restricting his log ins to the OASIS to keep himself healthy and fit. His reasons for such a regimen was simple. He wanted to be better at PvP, and since it was his source of income, the fit body and clear mind that such a thing granted was too good to pass up. Finally when the time came, Richter was counted among the many loyal Gunter to answer Parzival's call to arms. He didn't like the idea of the Sixers owning his beloved OASIS, and joined the fight before Castle Anorak. He was just another face among the crowd, but he gleefully took out many Sixers that day in the fight. Having been so late to the jade key, he did not get a Mecha like the others did, the fight was quite the sight to behold though, and knowing that his own diamond key would probably not make it before the insight the high five had, he resigned himself to fighting. Hoping to fill the shoes of their friend Daito, whom had been lost in the war for the jade key.

Then it happened. The Catalyst was used. His avatar, at the time, having been wiped along with the rest of the users. He watched the final gate though. He was among the many cheering Parzival on to get through the gate, and when he did he was among the few, that held their heads high for never giving up on the gunter dream. He took some time to himself, about a month, from the loss of his last avatar and through a message to Parzival, the new owner of the OASIS, and the rest of the group, he made a new account linked to his bio-metrics. It was at this time that Hitomi came into the OASIS. Over the next seven months, Hitomi rejoined the world of PvP fighting. Making a name for them self, the man known as Richter, now twenty nearing his twenty first birthday, still hasn't shaken the shyness that he held all his life. His family knows the real Richter Kingston, but will anyone else get to learn of him? Or is it the name Hitomi to be what everyone knows. A name that holds respect among the OASIS community. Her M-19 Falcon in hand, and her lessons in Muay Thai making her quite a dangerous opponent in the legal PvP matches. Utilizing the avatar for X-23 in those matches, Hitomi relishes the increased healing and Adamantine bones, as well as the blades, to enhance her deadliness in the ring.

Where the future will take Richter is a mystery. But when asked Ready player one? His answer is always, YES.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t exceptions from the norm, however. For example, Nathan Drake. Or a younger Harrison Ford. And possibly Geralt. Definitely Geralt.
Physical Residence: cheap apartment, kept well ordered, with a room kept clear so that he doesn’t have to worry about smacking anything while in the feedback suit. The room has a harness, and a treadmill, to prevent unfortunate accidents like falling over and breaking his visor.

Voice: He describes himself as “so basically if Elvis was a tenor, and had a lovechild with cowboy hat, basically that.”. In short, he tends to speak naturally at the low end of his vocal range, although he can adjust the pitch quite a bit with a good warmup and some effort. He’s rather skilled at imitating accents, but by default he tends to have a bit of an “American-but-nowhere-in-particular” accent, due to being raised as a military kid, and moving around so much. He tends to speak at a normal volume, although he does speak a tiny bit slowly, since he likes to make sure he’s understandable.
Mannerisms: He enjoys speaking his mind, ESPECIALLY when it would get a reaction. He’s also rather snarky most of the time, although it’s usually friendly, in a way. He does like to start discussions, often having a respectful argument with someone, and has joking referred to himself as “a mass debater” before laughing his ass off. And god help you if he figures out a nickname for you (he still refers to Chris Pratt as “Crunchy Rodent”)
History: He was born in Oklahoma, and both his mother and his father were in the military. This meant that he never really got to put down roots, moving around from place to place every couple of years. He did moderately well in high school, although he kept to himself most of the time. When he finally moved out so he could live on campus at a community college in California and get his certificates in welding, engineering, construction, and electrical engineering, he started making some friends, and he get a job rebuilding the stacks as a much safer, affordable apartment complex

What he usually wears when he’s in a fantasy themed world. This is the set worn by Oscar of Astora. He keeps this avatar at his actual height, because “you can’t hit me sucker. I’m like a cockroach, tiny and fast, and stupidly tough. Git Gud!”

Gladiatorial Avatar:  Khaimera

He’s very fond of this skin, although it doesn’t fit in most places. He keeps it at his actual height as well, and tends to use it for the Arena almost exclusively.

special abilities?

Andrew has done his best to work with server mods to replicate most of Khaimera’s abilities from the Paragon MOBA. These include
* Minor Superhuman Strength: We’re talking the low end of Olympic weightlifters. Nothing technically Superhuman, but it sure as hell is stronger than most folks.
* Regeneration: The more he hits his opponent, the faster he heals, but there is an upward limit, and if he can’t attack for more than a second or two, he has to build it back up again.
* Funky spirit powers: Short bursts of superhuman speed (We’re talking around fifteen seconds per minute, here, and it’s about on par with an Olympic sprinter), unleashing the spirit-beast (about the same strength as a bear) to savagely maul someone for a split second once every two minutes.

Social Avatar: Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden

Harry Dresden, the title character of the Dresden files. This is one of the few avatars where he actually uses a taller height, because otherwise it wouldn’t be true to the character... and he does like to loom over people.

Special abilities or powers?

* Magic, as it works in the series (mostly): This Avatar has a large, but very slowly recharging mana bar. It can cast most physical spells (shields, projectiles, elemental magic, etc) but not mental spells. Andrew also does his best to follow the rules of magic as presented in the novels, for no other reason that “roleplaying in the way I see as proper pleases me.” He also has it set up so that breaking any of the rules of magic has a random chance of causing a knight to track him down, resulting in a tough battle, sine the knight will be sporting anti-magic weapons and armor, as well as being a spellcaster as well. Why the added challenge? “Roleplay, damnit.”

Alternate Social Avatar: Volt

Volt, from warframe. As a warframe, it boasts superhuman speed, strength, stamina, and durability (all low level, around twice to three times the human norm), as well as the ability to stick to walls, and shoot lightning. This lightning ability operates on a slowly recharging energy bar. He has this avatar set to be stunned by emp blasts, both for balance, and because “sometimes a challenge is really fun.”

He’s planning on getting a Deadpool avatar for dicking around in, since people expect Deadpool to do that sort of thing, and he wants people to know what to expect.

He’s also debating having a few female avatars, in order to explore his desire to try out what being a different sex would be like, as well as facets of his sexuality, personality, and identity he wouldn’t be comfortable exploring in any other environment. If and when he does make one, he will likely choose:

We may be rolling most things to 'next morning' soon depending on what people want to do (but it's fine for different subplots to be posted at different in-game times, and the chars can always catch up later. In fact some of this is already going on).

I was thinking of being an online merchant for custom made items, computer science/engineer background who enjoys playing with source code. Basically making items to use for a specific user on themselves or couples. Like items that can change avatar height, weight, looks things like that.

OASIS Merchant Mode: Felicia Philippa Roberts/Rose Dandy-Ba

In the form of Felicia Philippa Roberts, John takes the source code of the player and creates unique and interesting items for her customers. It is a good cover for how John actually earns his money in Oasis. Felicia stands at 4’ tall and has a prehensile tail and sticky pads. She is curvy and offers a discount sometimes for a good favor.

In the form of Rose, John pretends to be Felicia’s understudy. In truth Felicia is just a reskin of the Rose skin and she can do anything that she would as Felicia. Standing at 5’, 4’ if you don’t count the ears, Rose has a bushy tail and is color blind. In the guise of Rose, John goes to all the hottest parties.

The Code Bearer is Blankslate’s base of operation and while it doesn’t pack a punch like other ships of its size it certainly is stealthy seeming to appear and vanish at a moment’s notice. All the weapons are designed to cause the other system’s weapons to go buggy not do actual damage to the ship. Thus limiting the danger to The Code Bearer and allowing it to escape.

Needle

The trusty hunting spear of the Lady Amalthea, this weapon is always sharp and casts a faint glow around it when it’s dark. The weapon is enchanted to never miss it’s mark and do 1d2+2 points of damage when it strikes its opponents

Additional notes and commentary (optional): John is more interested in causing mischief than maliciously hurting players and enjoys his roles as an online "merchant". The Hacker Persona is how he gets back at the players who are making problems for others. He sees himself as something as a do gooder but not in any official capacity. He'd much rather have fun with his furry or fairy avatars than go all crusader on people, unless they really deserve it.

P.S. My availability for E in general will be lower for the next few months (like I might be on 1-2 times a week instead of per day) but I won't be a Gone Girl even if it looks like it for a few days at a time. And I might be on a trip for about a week around the end of this month.
