science fiction and fantasy together?

Hello,
I would like to have a game take place in a combined science fiction and fantasy environment.  Magic and elves with starships!

I was thinking the initial set of characters could start out in some kind of elite military academy at a high school age.  From their lessons, lives, and general goings on, their adventure begins.
