S.I.N.S ACADEMY

Since the dawn of time, the armies of Heaven and Hell have waged an endless war.
Heading the conflict for the armies of Hell was none other than Lucifer, the first demon and leader of the realm.
To help him win the war, he created seven demons that were different from any others before them. They were created from the very sins of humanity.
Greed. Lust. Wrath. Pride. Gluttony. Sloth. Envy.
Labeled the seven deadly sins, these demons laid seige to the armies of heaven time and time again. Yet their true purpose was something far different.
The seven founded an Academy in the human world, an institute with the purpose of educating and training the rest of hell's demons to wield as much power as the sins themselves.
The Academy was founded in the human realm of Scotland, hidden from the watchful eyes of Heaven to train and educate in secret.

With students flooding in through the doors, the competition is already tight. Who will rise to prominence, and gain the power to fight beside Lucifer himself?

What this game is: A freeform largely sandbox game centered around an academy for demons. Students will be sorted into one of seven houses based on the seven sins depending on personality and abilities. Aside from that, it should run as a typical Academy/Boarding school based roleplay with teachers, students, and faculty. Just with supernatural abilities. This game is LGBQT friendly

Rules and Guidelines

~Adhere to all Elliquiy rules!
~Shouldn't need to be said but... No god-modding. Just don't do it.
~We are all adults here, disagreements may occur but please conduct yourself in accordance with your age and general standards of civility. Respect your fellow players and take any issues to PM to work it out. If needed you may include the GM(s) but once a ruling is made, that's it.
~This game will be placed in the Extreme section. Non-consensual activity is permitted, however, players are NOT required to participate. Any non-con activities MUST be approved by all players involved. Anyone who violates this rule will be dropped from the game.
~Please respect player/character ons and offs.
~This is a fantasy setting, of course there is some wiggle room for the sake of a good story but please use common sense! No over powered student characters.
~These rules are subject to change at the GM's discretion.

Joining SINS Academy is easy!  Simply create a character (all information can be found on the first page or with the quick start guide below) and PM the sheet to Rave.  After approval, characters can be posted in the Approved Characters thread and start posting.

Students

There are so many opportunities for student characters at SINS Academy!  Students are broken up into Houses based on which of the Seven Deadly Sins called to them most.  However, nothing need be set in stone!  Student characters can change Houses over time – either be corrupted, stolen or decide to make the move on their own.  Students can attend courses and socialize with other students, staff and Originals.  They are free to indulge in their sin to their hearts content, experiment with any of the other sins and generally have freedom to explore their natures while receiving the best education the Academy can provide!

Listed below are a few fun options for students to enjoy!
 

~Classes~

Classes have just gotten started and a really easy way for a new character to be introduced to other students, staff and Originals.  There are several courses offered by the teachers and Originals for the students to choose from and each one is unique!

Private tutoring is also an option!  Students can reach out to staff for personal lessons, build a connection and see what the staff has to offer.

~Bedrooms~

All students live at the Academy for the duration of their education and have rooms at the Academy.  These rooms can be personalized and designed to fit your character.  It’s also a great place for socializing with friends, study groups and small parties!

~Common Rooms~

Each of the Houses have common rooms for students to use for various activities.  A great place to hang out, hold events or even the attend the occasional class! 

~Repent~

The demon-run town not too far from the Academy offers a lot of fun for the students to participate in!  A nightclub, shopping options, restaurants and even a nice, peaceful lake are within easy reach for everyone to enjoy.  Grab some friends and head to Repent for fun, relaxation or even to shop for weapons, armor and intriguing enchantments!

~War Front~

Forth year students (or higher) can witness and experience the ongoing war between the Demons and Angels (with GM approval).  Want to test your students skills against the Holy Warriors of Heaven?  Want to learn about strategy and tactics?  Want to tend to the wounded Warriors of Hell?  Now you can!

Original Sin of Lust

Creating the Original Sin of Lust is a bit more complex than student or staff characters and might require a bit more effort as the Originals are a keystones to so much of the game.  Listed below is a bit more information as to the multitude of activities and ideas for the Original Sin!

~Overseeing House Lust~

Every member of House Lust (students and staff) answer to the whims and desires of the Original Sin.  Students and staff can be rewarded for their behavior or even punished for displeasing the Original.  Using the House to spread Lust through the Academy, the mortal world and even Hell itself create a never ending supply of fun options for a character!

~Overseeing Recovery and Chemical Warfare Division~

Lust and Gluttony oversee the Recovery and Chemical Warefare Division of Hells armies!  Want to influence the war personally or simply keep informed?  This is an option to expand the characters horizons and create even more opportunities for the Original!

~Intricate Sibling Relationships~

As all the Original Sins are related and living within the Academy together, there are endless opportunities for sibling alliances, rivalries, intrigues and politics.  Everything from battles in the arena, political maneuvering for power and influence to even stealing off with their students… there are so many options and opportunities!

-Character Creation and Game rules can be found following the link.  As well, it holds the coded character sheet.  Once that has been filled out, send it to Rave for approval.  Every player, at this time, can have up to three characters!

-After that, you’re free to get started!  You can begin posting at your leisure or even pop by the Out of Character and say hello. 

-Need some help getting started?  That’s easy enough!  Feel free to post requests for interactions in the OOC thread or even PM players to get a scene started!  Feeling a bit lost?  Or have some questions?  Feel free to send Rave a PM!  He’s a friendly GM and always willing to answer questions, point players or characters in the right direction and work with his players to provide a fun atmosphere for everyone.

The Seven Houses

Wrath

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Proverbs 15:1) - Wrath , also known as "rage", may be described as inordinate and uncontrolled feelings of hatred and anger. Wrath, in its purest form, presents with self-destructiveness, violence, and hate that may provoke feuds that can go on for centuries. Wrath may persist long after the person who did another a grievous wrong is dead. Feelings of anger can manifest in different ways, including impatience, revenge, and self-destructive behavior. Students in this house are often Demons who excel at violence and destruction, preferring to blow things up and take a direct approach to violence as opposed to their counterparts.

Pride
“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18). - In almost every myth, pride, or hubris, is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and the source of the others. It is identified as believing that one is essentially better than others, failing to acknowledge the accomplishments of others, and excessive admiration of the personal self (especially holding self out of proper position towards God & Lucifer). Dante's definition was "love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbour". Students in this house are demons who typically excel at most things they do, whether it be academic or battle oriented. They have a heightened sense of self, and consider themselves the top 1% of their species. They often gloat about their skills, and form exclusive groups.

Envy

“Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation” (1 Peter 2:1-2). - Like greed and lust, Envy is characterized by an insatiable desire. Envy is similar to jealousy in that they both feel discontent towards someone's traits, status, abilities, or rewards. The difference is the envious also desire the entity and covet it.
Envy can be directly related to the Ten Commandments, specifically, "Neither shall you desire... anything that belongs to your neighbour." Dante defined this as "a desire to deprive other men of theirs". In Dante's Purgatory, the punishment for the envious is to have their eyes sewn shut with wire because they have gained sinful pleasure from seeing others brought low. Aquinas described envy as "sorrow for another's good".
Students from this house are often spiteful and hateful, excelling in demon magics and illusions rather than physical combat. They are mostly agile and fluid, preferring to plot an enemy's demise rather than go up and stab it face to face.

Greed

“Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more” (Ephesians 4:19). - Greed, also known as avarice, cupidity or covetousness, is, like lust and gluttony, a sin of excess. However, greed is applied to a very excessive or rapacious desire for everything, including material possessions. Thomas Aquinas wrote, "Greed is a sin against God, just as all mortal sins, in as much as man condemns things eternal for the sake of temporal things." Students in this house tend to be naturally greedy, seeking to learn everything and master every art. This is a nearly impossible feat, however those who do succeed are among the most powerful demons known. Students in this house also tend to prefer weapons they've collected or stolen over the years, rather than relying on physical combat.

Lust

“But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). - . - Lust, or lechery (carnal "luxuria") is an intense desire. Lust could be exemplified by the intense desire for money, food, fame, power, or sex. Mainly, the desire for physical contact and sexual relations manifest themselves as lust, often driving their captor mad with feelings of desire, need, and want for their object. It is not limited to humans, as one can lust for objects or goals, however the feelings would be stronger if humanly focused.
In Dante's Purgatorio, the penitent walks within flames to purge himself of lustful thoughts and feelings. In Dante's Inferno, unforgiven souls of the sin of lust are blown about in restless hurricane-like winds symbolic of their own lack of self-control to their lustful passions in earthly life. Students in this house are often beautiful, the most gorgeous demons Hell has to offer. They use the power of seduction in order to obtain what they want, and tend to favor stealth in combat if they must fight. While weak physically, they are often irresistible to those they charm.

Gluttony

“for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags” (Proverbs 23:21). - Derived from the Latin gluttire, meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste.
In Christianity, it is considered a sin if the excessive desire for food causes it to be withheld from the needy.
Because of these scripts, gluttony can be interpreted as selfishness; essentially placing concern with one's own interests above the well-being or interests of others. Students in this house often do everything in excess, whether it be train or eat or sleep. They are often selfish in their desire, especially for food, and as such clash with students for the house of Greed. In combat, they often go over-the-top, massacring their enemies needlessly or mutilating them beyond necessary. They are especially hard to teach.

Sloth

“The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway” (Proverbs 15:19).  . -Sloth can entail different vices. While sloth is sometimes defined as physical laziness, spiritual laziness is emphasized. Failing to develop spiritually is key to becoming guilty of sloth. In the Christian faith, sloth rejects grace and God.
Sloth has also been defined as a failure to do things that one should do. By this definition, evil exists when good men fail to act.
The exact deadly sin referred to was believed to be the failure to utilize one's talents and gifts. Students in this house are often lazy, and are generally regarded as the lowest house in standings. While their personalities prevent them from succeeding, it should be noted that they are the strongest physically. They are known for their brute strength, as a demon from the house is often endowed with enough strength to lift tons of weight and clear obstacles other demons can't...if someone can convince them to stop being lazy and do it.

Class List

Charon - Ability Mastery: Advanced Uses.

Guidance on the use of abilities for combat purposes through direct experience. Students will learn to sharpen their powers for combat through sparring with classmates, and the instructor. Those who have yet to use their powers for combat will receive guidance on combat applications. The lesson requires a combat-ready or combat-applicable power, and will be graded based on the instructor's criteria. Those with no prior combat experience are invited to attend, but are warned that injury may occur.

Open to: Students who meet the above requirements.

Mina - Curative Studies: An Introduction.

A brief overview of the importance of curative studies and its history. The lecture will also include in-class synthesis of a standard, military-grade healing potion which will be graded on the following criteria: speed of synthesis, quality, and safety.

Meg - Blind Fighting

This course focuses on training students to hone their instincts for use on the battlefield.  They will be rendered unable to see their surroundings, and then forced to dodge attacks, navigate unfamiliar terrain, and battle an opponent.  This course is offered at three levels for beginner, intermediate and advanced students.

Open to: All students; note: students are responsible for applying to the correct level for their abilities.

Meg - Primal Warfare

This course focuses on teaching students to fight without weaponry or armor.  During the course, Meg will force the students to delve into their primal demonic nature and learn to develop natural defenses and weapons for their fight against angelic foes.  It will also teach them to abandon advanced fighting techniques in favor of instinct and ferocity for those times when feral brutality is not only necessary, but preferable.

Meg - Psychological Torture

This course will train students to use their opponent's mental and spiritual weaknesses against them in torture and interrogation situations.  Students will be trained to identify their subject's individual weaknesses, and the best methods of tailoring their psychological torture to each individual.  There will be occasional joint sessions with Veradis in which students will learn to combine physical torture methods with psychological torture methods to maximum effect.

Kamau - War Tactics and Strategy

A class going over the tactics and strategy involved in war time and how to apply it. There will be very little combat in this class, as it is mostly theoretical, but it is quite important and useful.

Kamau - Emotional and Mental Control

This will cover a variety of distractions both physical and mental. It will focus on teaching students to block these distractions during wartime...and any other time as well. Emotion suppression, mental strength and even the dampening of sexual urges in times of peril. Other students or faculty may be brought in for demonstration or testing.

Veradis - Interrogation and Torture

This course features methods of torture and interrogation techniques.  It will include both physical and power related techniques to enhance the students ability to achieve their goals.  The course will focus mostly on techniques best used against their angelic adversaries.

Veradis - Angelic Studies

An introductory course featuring information about their angelic enemies.  This course will explain the structure of the angelic forces and the Seven Virtues.  It will offer basic information on their combat capabilities and some well-known powers.

"Oh I've been called many things. The Origin. The Evil. The Root.

Everything but my name. I am what most people boast about having, despite the enormity of my Sin. Oh how strange it is, for these...insects, who call themselves human, to cheer and parade around their pride... It is as if they celebrate the very core of all sins...

Proud to be American, they say. Before that, it was proud to be British, and before them, they were proud to be Romans...All but the last tumbled and fell upon itself, fallen upon my Sin and my brethren's...They do not see, they cannot see.

Oh the naivety.

How, that they do not discover me as the root of all sins is a testament to their place on the food chain... Corruptible, Feeble, Weak. Such things cannot belong in my world. We, are better. As a species. And I am better still.

Yet here I am, teaching those who cannot comprehend how elevated from their standing I am...Why? You may ask. For Pride to lower himself to the level of these...students, and share what I know. Oh but it is far more complex.

My pride in our species far exceeds anything else I have come to embrace. The power that lies within each and every one of you...the potential that I see wasted by demon after demon, killing themselves to minuscule sins like Sloth and Gluttony...Oh how I will change you. Oh how I will mold you, into something else. Something that breeds its own root, and produces its own sins. I will create you into something better, something stronger.

Something I can be proud of."

Skills: Pride is arguably the most well educated among all the Sins and students, valuing knowledge and power over all. He has read every human, demonic, and angelic text every wrote and ever to be written. In terms of combat ability, Pride is the most complete fighter. While the other Sins are extremely dangerous and powerful, it is often that they are specialized in what they can do. Pride, however, encompasses most battle techniques using the other six as a blueprint. He has a vast mastery of bladed weapons, out of simple favoritism, and will often give combat demonstrations using a sword or a rapier rather than brute strength or magic, however both can be incorporated.
Powers:  Among many powers that originate from the root, the three most important ones are as follows:

Invulnerability: It is a known fact that if one was to target the Sins, Pride would be the hardest to kill. He is immune to most magic rituals and exorcisms, combined with the natural demon ability to be unaffected by bullets and mortal weapons, it is incredibly difficult for Charon to be injured let alone killed. The exception to the rules, are the other Sins, his siblings. If desired, Lust has enough power to sway or charm him, while Wrath can get him angry if need be.

Speed: Out of all the things honed by Demons, speed is usually not among them. They take their original speed and stronger legs for granted, un-aware that even though they can outrun Humans they cannot outrun Angels. As such, Pride is the fastest among the Sins. It is said that if he runs at full speed, he can break the sound barrier, evident by a few sonic booms in his wake during his earlier days of combat. His siblings would attest to this.

Specialty: Every Original has their own little flare, something that makes them unique. Greed has her Golems, and Pride...well, his pride. In the very beginning, Lucifer allowed the Original 7 to infect humanity with their sins once and let things take shape from there. However, Pride was the only one to retain control over this ability. No incantations are needed, and no spell needs to be uttered. You simply have to be fighting Pride in order to be infected. The infection is both physical and mental. The enemy becomes so over-inflated with pride that they become a corrupted root, spurring from it all the other sins on a smaller scale. The enemy falls to the seven sins even though they are only fighting one, and rapidly begin to self destruct from being too greedy or lazy. Using a human as an example, infected by the root, Sloth would take over and his movements would severely dull. Wrath would take over and his mind would be clouded, allowing for reckless moves and rash decisions. Infected would greed and envy, they would turn on their own comrades to steal their weapons out of jealousy. Armies crumble at his feet and turn to in fighting, thus, ensuring victory every time.

Question! I'm a little confused on the setting. The synopsis says it's a fantasy setting, but your character depicted here is in a suit that looks modern. So.. which is correct? Is it a fantasy setting with, like, knights and wizards and peasants and such and you just picked that image because the face fit your character? Or are the characters modern and in a more current style of dress?

It's a fantasy setting since we're talking about non-human characters here, thus making it fantasy. However the actual plot/academy takes place in the modern human world. As such, demons can't be walking around looking like...well, demons! Thus, they do what they can to blend in.

Think of it like Demon Hogwarts. Fantasy, but with modern human elements.

Demons don't have to be "evil". Evil and Good are relative terms anyway depending on which side you're on. The Academy is founded to be just that, an institute of learning. While some houses may focus more on combat and fighting, others focus on general knowledge, history, magics.

Even Demons need medics!

Haha, I'm glad to know!

Also, Demons can get pretty old :P It's safe to say that they live endlessly unless their life is cut short. Generally, the older the demon the more powerful they are simply because they've endured Hell longer and know more.

But yes, to your general point, if I were to weakly compare them to humans, characters would be 18+.
Though again it doesn't really apply here  :P

For some reason when I read this, I got the idea for a Succubus or Incubus in the House of Lust who might have the innate talent and beauty for the work, but needs to learn the proper techniques of seduction. I don't know why that idea came to me. But consider this a mark of interest.

I FOUND THE MODEL FOR MY CHAR! For me that's like 75% of the battle. So I should definitely be able to swing the char sheet by the deadline!

Hmm.

Generally I would like to keep the ages fluid to give the players interested as much freedom as possible (within game limits :P) but for the sake of it, let's just say teachers will have to at least served in Hell for over three hundred years. It's a minimum requirement, per say. Keeping in mind that serving is different than just being there, so you'd have to have earned the right to teach sort to speak. How each demon goes about doing that, though, is the player's own decision.

As for the model finding thread, this can actually be very helpful for interested players struggling to find an image! It's such a lovely idea, thank you for offering! I may even place a link with your agreement somewhere in the original thread just so it's always available.
