I wish they had called it the I-Slate like they were going to. I cannot take an appliance seriously if it reminds me of a personal hygiene product.

IP is also the abbreviation of Intellectual Property. See, see! Jobs is trying to take over the world and without Bill Gate's evil to keep him in check and vice versa. The world would have already plunged into eternal darkness that not even a ring falling into that blender could cure!
If you're searching the lines for a point, well you've probably missed it; there was never anything there in the first place.

I think it's funny how many folks growl about Job's evil that were the same folks cussing Gates not so long ago.

They're both evil. Windows has got the software problems and I've never had an Apple computer that spent more time being used than it did being fixed.

Bad Hardware v. Bad Software... God help us if they ever team up.

Really?

I've yet to have an apple fail on me. (aside from my iPhones).. everything else works good.

Both Apple computers I and my dad bought have spent more time being shipped back to the factory for repair than in actual use. We have them back but we use HPs because we're scared to use the Apples.

Ironically I never had a problem with Windows until Vista Service Pack 2. I think they're both just evil.

I LOVE my Mac Pro (it runs windows better than my HP did) and my mac book is about right for what I paid for it.

I've yet to have either hang, BSoD or do mystery restarts/updates like the last 2 windows machines I've owned. A bit harder to customize and get software for but all in all I like the mac more than the last few PCs I had.

It ain't perfect.. but it's better OS wise than Vista was.

It's all about one's luck I suppose.

I don't like EVERYTHING about the mac.. (upgrading is a pain to find cards to put in..)

Hard drives on the mac pro.. YE GODS.. easiest set up EVER.. took longer to uplug the system to get it on my desk to open it than it did to slip it into place. No cords, no cables.. pull out one of the drive clips, screw the captive screws into the drive.. slide it home.. close case.. connect cables.. reboot

That being said.. I imagine the iMacs are a friggin NIGHTMARE

Opening the original iMac was like breaking into a hard-shell crab, only without the tasty reward inside.  Everything was crammed together, worse than any laptop I've ever seen.

I much preferred the G4 - there was literally a big colored button that you pushed and it hinged open like a tackle box.

I can honestly see no point to the ipad. Its a larger iphone, but it has no more uses than a computer. I kinda want to see a gas can, or a bottle of lighter fluid blend. It might have to be set on fire, but I think it would be interesting.

If you google the blender brand name, you should be able to find the one that Callie mentioned with the lighters.

Based on what you just said, the point of the iPad is the same point as a computer, which you obviously use. I'm not on the Apple bandwagon in terms of having to have the latest piece of trendy technology, but I can't deny that Apple is making some interesting innovations in terms of computer technology. It's in the very nature of technology to evolve and improve; computers have consistently been modified every couple of years with new breakthroughs. They went from taking up entire rooms to sitting on a desk to sitting on our laps to fitting in our palms. Regardless of whether or not it's necessary to eliminate keyboards (as in the case of the iPad, it's good to experiment with new things. I remember when laptops first became popular, quite a few people saw them as trendy technology that had no real point other than a slight increase in convenience; now, they're more popular than the desktops that preceded them.

The piece of technology that I find rather futile is the netbook. It has a great number of limitations in terms of memory and processing power due to its small size; hell, most of its functions can be performed by a smartphone that costs $100 less. There are a number of articles about the impending obsolescence of the netbook, so unless computer makers can find a way to decrease the size of its components while simultaneously increasing their efficiency, I don't see netbooks lasting much longer.

You make points, I suppose, but here is my reasoning behind my position.

Apple Makes good computers and smart phones already, this is some bastard hybrid of the two that has about half the functions of either, without most of the important ones.

The ipad is not in fact a computer, is it? its somewhere between a kindle and an iphone.

you literally cannot use an ipad one handed, and it would be an awkward size to hold one handed, so you already need somewhere to put it. It looks like it would be an awkward key interface, especially if you have to put it down to use it.

I have watched the one with the lighters, it was cool. I just want to know what would happen.

Paradox

I suppose that's true; however, this is the first generation iPad. It's functionality is bound to improve as Apple receives feedback and releases newer versions. I never thought I'd find myself defending the damned thing, but at this point, I'd rather wait and see. It's too soon to judge the technology because it's only just been released. If subsequent models continue to have the same flaws and limitations, then I'll throw all my efforts into mocking and ridiculing it; for now, I just mock its poor choice of a name  :P

Oh, most certainly. I know that may well be what happens. I disparaged Vista greatly when it came out too. Mainly, Im just a sarcastic bastard. I dont have anything against it, it just seemed like a fairly pointless piece of tech. Shiny though.
