Type of Role Play: Predominantly Gay with a Mix of Bi and Straight, Extreme Small Group
Genre: Supernatural
Number of New Players Desired: 4 or 5
Maximum Number of Players: We currently have 1 GM and 6 Players, which brings us to 7.

Primary Setting: Dr. LaLaurie's Academy, New Orleans, Louisiana, Current Day, Current Date is January 5th, 2015.

LaLaurie House Floor Plan

Plot: Similar to the television show American Horror Story: Coven, this scenario will follow the antics and events of a Coven of Salem descendents who reside within a boarding school - Dr. LaLaurie's Academy, for this version - centered in New Orleans, Louisiana; however, unlike the show, this will be an all-male institution, save select staff and servants, who may be of the female persuasion. It will be dark and twisted - more so than the last attempt that was made to launch this scenario - with character development and relations at its core, but a healthy dose of sexual activity mixed in for good measure. Limits will be respected, but be warned that things can and will turn extreme from time to time. This will not be for the faint of heart. I myself have very few limits, so I'm more than willing to 'go there.' Granted, I'm not one to torture or kill helpless women, children or animals. Men? Sure. Anywho...

Style of Play: Freeform with a Minor Leveling System for Powers
Pacing: Casual to Steady, Semi-Committed, Quality Posting Preferred
Level of Sexual Activity: Mild to Extreme

Additional Notes: Nothing is written in stone! I'm all eyes and ears. If you have an idea that doesn't initially fit with this IC, we can probably work it out. Just ask! There are no stupid questions, only stupid actions when you second guess yourself or make assumptions.

By the way, I plan to make this more game-like than not. So, for example, certain aspects of character creation - such as primary and secondary powers, as well as histories and motivations - will be purposefully withheld from the group, just to keep things interesting. I want there to be an element of surprise and for characters to disclose such details through role play, up to and including sexual desires and wants. I've participated in far too many plots where a player simply looks at another player's character sheet and acts/reacts to something they read there and not to what was actually happening in-game. Now, that's not to say that I, as the GM, won't be privy to such details, but I would prefer that these things be kept secret until made known through a character's thoughts, words, and actions.

Cheers,
TNT aka Tony

Working on something for either one of the staff spots or the advanced student... ideas incoming!

You know I am interested  ;) Just gotta decide if I want to revamp my old character or start all over... hmmm

Got ya penciled in for the Advanced Student, OM, as per our PM conversation.

Yes, bb, I know and I'm excited, too! I look forward to seeing which route you'll go. To vamp or not to vamp? Hmmm indeed. Oh, and to answer your PM'd question, there will be a formal character sheet, but I'm not going to post it until we get enough interest shown. That said, start formulating/reformulating those PCs and plots!

You know how much I do adore male witches  :-)

I'm tentatively interested, but I'll need to wait and see the extent of the system/game-like aspects before I let myself start thinking character concepts.

Yes, I know all too well. *smirk*

Anywho, I'm not thinking of anything too elaborate system-wise. I'm not really a fan of such things myself. Basically, when it comes to powers, I'm thinking of dishing out a certain number of points - and rewarding additional points throughout the game - that can be used to more or less buy and then level up said powers, of which there will be many. Also, to keep things a bit more realistic and, well, even, there will be limits set, at the start, so that a PC doesn't suddenly have the ability to set the entire academy on fire with a single stroke of their pinky.

Make sense?

Voicing my interest here!

Nice! I just sent you a reply to your PM and answered a few of your questions, which - I hope you don't mind - I'd like to share here...

1. Yes, this is an alternate version of AHS: Coven, so we won't be seeing any canon characters or exact story lines from there, unless the group wishes, wants or demands it. We may dabble in the 'who will replace The Supreme plot,' but that will probably be as close as we get.

2. Yes, there will be powers beyond The Seven Wonders. What those will be are yet to be determined. I have a few things in mind. If anyone else has any thoughts on the matter, do not hesitate to share!

I believe that is all for now. I'm off to lunch with friends. Keep those interests cummin'! Tell a friend! Tell two! We still have plenty of slots open.

Cheers,
Tony

Count me in for a student!! If there is still room!

Right now I'm leaning towards student myself -- though if I made a second character, it would probably be a Spirit or Society member.

As I've said before, I know nothing about the series.  Any info given here would be appreciated when needed.  Or I could just play a clueless novice and learn along with my character.  *shrugs*  That would work.

bb and locke, Student slots have been saved for you both.

Dotley, does this mean you're one step closer to joining? Please say yes! I mean, uh, no pressure.

Pixel, OM & bb took the words right out of my mouth. I think it will add a nice level of realism if you have zero knowledge of what's happening to you and around you. Relish in it! Exploit it for all it's worth!

Ceralilly! What role would you be interested in taking on?

And, to all. I think we may be at a good place for rolling this along. We're student heavy, but that's okay. With me taking on the roles of both Headmaster and Butler, we have the basic staff needed to make this work. The others can be layered in as we go. So, I will probably post up a blank CS in the next day or so, as well as open an official OOC, and we'll go from there! If anyone has any questions or needs, ask away here or PM me.

Cheers,

Thanks, Pixel. I'll note your interest - as well as lockepick's in playing either a Society or Spirit - but I think for now we'll stick with one character per player. Once we have our feet wet and get a good feel for where we're going, I'll open the claims up for a second character. Cool?

Also, on an entirely unrelated note, I would like some feedback, from everyone, on keeping certain character details withheld, only to have them revealed through the scenario. Does this sound appealing, annoying or just odd? Oh, and, when we get to power selection, would you like to pick your own or be given one, almost naturally selected, through PM? I'm sort of liking the thought of giving everyone an initial power, in secret, but then allowing most to select their second power or third if they are an advanced student/servant/staff member.

Thoughts?

That was my intention.  Give you the option of having me as a second character if we get to that point.  I do want to get into the story before taking on two roles.

I love the idea of withholding info.  I'm a sucker for learning with my characters.  It makes writing easier in my opinion.  I have to figure out other characters along with my own.  It would bring up some very interesting conversations and incidents along the way.  The powers idea is good as well; random initial power and chosen second.  Like jumping into an RPG with skills you have to learn to use before you get good enough to actually earn some.  I'm for it.

I can’t promise anything quite yet since I don’t want to disappoint, but I am still interested! When the character sheet is released I’m definitely going to see what I can come up with.

Lately I’ve discovered a penchant for writing older characters so I’m really only interested in a Staff or Servant position. Leaning towards Staff since a teaching role sounds like fun  :-)

Excellent! I will save you a Staff spot and if for any reason you wish to run off into the night, never to be seen again, that spot will be returned to its original place with no worries and no harm done. That's just how I roll. Also, if you suddenly change your mind and want to play a Servant instead, I'm sure we can work something out, up to and including ditching my butler, Philip.

I'm alright with being given an initial power, maybe if it could be assigned before we do our character sheet so we have it in mind? Also YES secrets sheets. I say just visible names ages and pictures.

On Multiple Characters: I only intended to start with one -- the musing about playing a Spirit/Society member was for the future. I wouldn't even pencil me in for those positions, since it's rather hypothetical. All my ideas for Spirits that I come up with don't allow a lot of direct interaction, and make them probably ill-suited for a PC...

On Secret Sheets: I think it's an interesting idea! I think this was said, but I would still like some sort of public sheet -- even if it's just basic stuff like: Name; Picture; 'Faction'. Could even be more of a database, I suppose.

On Powers: I always love the idea that there are rules (or even a light system) to how our power grows, even if they're totally OOC. It could be us getting 'arcane experience' or something based on posts, time, or specific events -- or even just the GM saying "When something big/dramatic happens, I might allow additional powers/control to be attained". Though I feel like I should say -- I'm also fine if we just don't ever upgrade. I guess I've just played in a lot of games that claimed we would grow and then we never did. Not sure how helpful that input was...

As for the start: I think we'd need to start with one Power, just so we have a reason to be at the school, though our level of control of even that one power might be weak. I can think of a few ways to get a student into the school that hasn't manifested their power yet if somebody really wanted that story, but I wouldn't make that the norm. (Staff member with 'witchfinder' ability; giving that student some super mundane power that is just enough to know they have ANY potential; etc.)

I agree with Lockepick on all his points.  On this one about CS in particular, I do believe we need some form of public versions just to help us with the story.  It's nice to have something to go to for general info when you're trying to write a post.  Just so we don't have to remember every little thing.

Yes, initial powers will be given before CS's are drafted up. It's far too important to not know it advance. The 'when' or 'how' it developed will be left up to the individual player. So, some will have known about it since birth, while others may decide to make it a bit more recent.

Interest in multiple characters is more something I'm taking note of behind the scenes. So worry not. Nothing is being written in stone.

Secrets sheets. Ahhhhh! First of all, I must say that I love the open dialogue we're having about this. It's really nice to see. It shows me that it matters and that you guys care enough to want it done right. What I don't love is my inability to make myself clear on the subject. Bad me. Shame on me. So, to clarify...

There will indeed be a Character Sheet section and there will be a detailed Character Sheet that everyone must complete, in full, to play. However, what there won't be are fully realized sheets for all to see. The group will get the basics and then, as the game progresses, details can and will be added once they are disclosed in-game. Everyone will send me their completed sheets and I will post them up with the appropriate pieces, so no need to worry about what to share and not to share. As things unfold, with your help, I'll disclose more information. Make sense? If not, feel free to ask more questions here or PM me. I basically want to create a bit of mystery, an element of surprise. As I mentioned before, I hate it when someone reads a CS, reacts to what they read as if the character had it tattooed on their forehead or had available copies to hand out to everyone they met on the street, and nothing is ever said or done about it, as if this were a natural occurrence. Well, bah, I say, bah! I want things to unfold in game, to be revealed through thoughts, actions and words. Cool?

As for the Power Point System, it truly is going to be a basic guide, just to keep things on the up and up. Most players will start with the bare minimum and, basically, it will be up to them to decide how they want to allot them. Do they give their base power 3 points or do they give it 2 and save 1 for a new power? What happens when they hit 7? Is that the cap? I still have to work out the details, but it will be very basic, user friendly and, to be perfectly honest, not written in stone. If we feel that the story would benefit from a sudden spike in abilities, I'll allow it and we'll play it out! This is all about having fun and creating both wicked and wonderful characters, not keeping track of points and levels and whatever. So, please, fear not, I do not want to get lost in systems and rules of that nature.

As for how everyone comes about finding their way to the academy, it will be different for each player. Some will be invited - witchfinder indeed! - and some will have been discovered on the fly, while others may have done a bit of digging around and, somehow, caught wind of a secret sect of witches. Perhaps their power helped them discover the truth or they simply had a calling. For whatever reason, each will find their way.

Phew. I think that covers most of the major points brought up and I hope my explanations shed enough light on them to make it a bit more clear. I should have the blank CS up either tonight or by tomorrow night at the latest and, well, I should probably warn you all...it's gonna be a fun one...er, at least I think it's going to be!

Cheers,

Most players will start with the bare minimum and, basically, it will be up to them to decide how they want to a lot them.

Etched in stone, indeed.  I demand my info be carved into the very fabric of time and space.  You will do this or I swear by Sexy Zeus I will bake you the worst batch of oatmeal raisin cookies ever.  You have 24 hours.

I'd prefer to know how they student came about the school before writing up a CS, unless they don't know this info before we start.  If the CS's are supposed to just be a generalization made months or weeks before they even know about the school, then that's fine.  But if some of us are supposed to be at the school already I feel like that would factor into our character build.  You may have all this sorted out already, in which case I'm just talkin' out mah butt.  So yeah.

It'll be great, Tony.  You have a great group here already.  Along with the attention to detail you put into your stories, I can't see it going badly.  I know I won't drop out for sure.  *grins*

Yep. Just like the initial power piece of the puzzle, we'll hammer out the exact details - for you, Pixel, it will be down to the milisecond, observed by hundreds, signed off by Oprah and certified with a golden star - for how ya got to the academy, long before ya submit your final CS.

It's an all-boy boarding school, so...

That said, you could certainly play a Servant or Social character who is a lesbian.

I could've probably figured that out for myself with a little bit more reading lol. Thanks for the heads up.

Roen

I've been a little creatively backed up for a long while now, as some of your players could attest *lamely waves to Dotely and Lockepick* but this concept really tickles my inspirational bone, though I don't usually do fan fiction kind of RPGs.

I'd love to take part in this, if there's still room.

I could go with either a student or a staff member, and add a second society character as the game progresses, perhaps an antagonist, maybe one of a competitive faction to the coven, similar to the voodoo high priestess from the show.

Hey Roen!

Sorry to hear about the back-up, but happy to hear that this inspired you. Just so you know, this scenario will be loosely based on AHS: Coven. So, it will be less fan fic and more inspired by. There won't be canon characters from the show - unless the group wishes or wants that down the road - and I think, so far, the only storyline we may dabble in is 'who will be the new Supreme.'

Anywho.

There is still one Novice Student slot open, as well as one Instructor/Staff. The choice is yours to make. Once you decide, I'll set that spot aside for you and then you can start working on your CS. Initial powers are being randomly selected by myself and provided to you through PM, as is the 'how you were contacted to join The Academy' piece of the puzzle.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask them here or by PM.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
TNT

@TNT: I noticed our floor plan doesn't have a gym or anything. I find that a little hard to believe given the pictures of staff so far! :)

Hey, Toy, thanks for the warm welcome!
Thank you too, Lockepick!

I'm really torn... I want to play a student, but playing a staff member also sounds like a great way to get into the thick of things. I think I'll go for a student, and add a faculty character later should it be permitted. I'll PM my concept to you later, when I get home.

What pictures of the staff? What have you seen? *looks around*

Anywho. With average temps being in the low 70's to mid 80's on the high end and upper 50's to mid 60's on the low end, I figured both the porch on the 3rd floor and the open air courtyard could easily be used as an area for exercise and equipment. Not to mention, there will be room in the service hallway on the 1st floor, for those colder/rainier days. So there is plenty of room for random pieces of equipment. If your character wants or needs something a bit more structured, perhaps he can propose such a thing to the Headmaster and that can be his pet project.

Just so everyone already involved is aware, I have gone ahead and closed out nearly all of the PC categories, save the single Staff Member that remains. The Servants have been fleshed out with NPC's that I will control, up until the moment someone shows interest in the category. At that time, they can either take on the existing NPC or make a new one, which means certain death for the correlating NPC. *gasps* As for the Social & Spirit categories, I shut them down as well, so that those with a Primary PC can add a Secondary S or S when the story permits or, better yet, demands it!

I believe that is all for now.

Cheers,
TNT

UPDATE: That last slot has been taken! Woot! We now have a full house!

Twisted iN Tux

Cum one, cum all!

We have open slots, bitches! Er, I mean, witches!

Uh...yeah.

*shifty eyes*

Anywho.

Please take a moment to review the pertinent details on page one. If this sounds like a scenario you could sink your supernatural teeth into, let us know! Feel free to show interest here or PM me directly. If you have any questions, any at all, just ask.

This is an existing group that is looking to relaunch sometime very soon. We just need some fresh blood, so to speak, what with the departure of two players. We're not looking for a complete reset, not at all, we're just looking to fill the one or two vacancies we currently have. Your characters will be slid on in with the greatest of ease. *pinky swears* So don't worry for one moment about being the new kid(s) on the block. Truth be told, we're still very much in the beginning stages of story development.

Cheers,
Tony

Ixy

I would love to make a character for this.  I could do a female or a male, but would like to know what preferences players would have and what would help drive story for the game master.

Hi Ixy!

Thank you for showing interest in our scenario. What caught your eye? Are you a fan of American Horror Story? Most of us are fans and fairly well versed in the series. Anywho. Seeing that this version takes place in an all-boys school, we're looking for a male student. Is that something you'd be interested in pursuing?

Let me know,
Tony

Ixy

Yes-- I haven't watched "Hotel" yet, but I enjoyed Coven greatly.  I'm good with that, whatever's needed... an experienced student, a novice, or somewhere in between?  Will the plot involve the whole aspect of the Supreme?
______________________
The big print giveth, the small print taketh away.

Twisted iN Tux

He would be a Novice Student, and while the Supreme storyline will be touched upon, it's not the main driving plot. We're looking to pay respect to the source material, but also take it on an original spin around the block, so to speak. It's more about the collection of unique characters, weaving their complex stories, as well as fighting, more or less, for the survival of their kind and coven.

ViperFang

I am feeling tempted to throw a character in here, but it's looking like I may be too late. Is there any chance of slipping in another novice student?

Twisted iN Tux

Hi ViperFang!

It's never too late.

Would you have any interest in playing a house servant or does it have to be a student? The servants have powers, too, so it's not like they're just, well, boring servants. They have a bit more freedom, as well. We currently have three claimable NPC's, as noted on the first page of this thread. Also, there is one slot kind-of, sort-of open for a member of society. One of the writers, who is currently away from the boards, was the niece of the headmaster. I'd be open to allowing such a slot to be taken if you can whip up an awesome character concept. Otherwise, I suppose we could make room for one more student. They may end up bunking with someone else - including one of the servants - seeing that the house is swiftly running out of beds. *smirk*

Let me know your thoughts, here or via PM!

Cheers,
Tony

ViperFang

Hmmm...

I could maybe be interested in my guy being a personal trainer, though he might resent being called a servant xD At the moment, I am gonna think more about the student angle, but I will be gone most of today. If the slot is filled by then I will try for something else.
