Trouble with Internet Explorer 11

Yeah, yeah, I know, I should switch to Chrome or Firefox. I've tried both and my screen reader has fits with either of them and, for some reason, when I try to go to some sites, Chrome crashes.

Anyway, over the last week, IE has slowed way, way, way down. In particular, the menu's are taking several seconds to a minute to open fully and sometimes, when I try to open one menu, it's opening another; usually either file or edit. When I open my favorites, I will only see "add to my favorites" for several seconds as other links slowly, slowly appear, then more waiting as the subfolders open and I can move through those, which may send me off to another link in the folder. As an example, I wanted to go and look at the one-on-one forums, and it sent me to maxi-aids, which is another link in the same folder.

I've deleted my history cookies and temp. internet files, but no good. I really, really don't want to reload iIE because I don't want to lose the long, long, long list of my favorites. So... help?

Yes, I really am blind.
Being Literate is the ability to read and understand a language. When you ask for literate, what you are looking for is Verbosity, which is the ability to use lots of words without actually saying very much... like politicians. I consider myself both literate and verbose.

You can try to reset IE. It will not delete your favorites.

What OS(Operating system) are you using? Windows 10(current), 8, or 7? Have you tried using Microsoft Edge? It's the browser that replaced Internet explorer 11. Export the bookmarks and import them into Edge. This article explains and shows you how to do it. The process will only work if you have windows 10 on the same computer. Resetting IE won't delet your favorites list. If I were you though, I would save your favorites into another browser before doing a reset of IE, just to be safe.

Unfortunately, I'm using Windows 7, so using Edge isn't an option. I guess that the next step is to reset the defaults and see what happens... if I can remember how to do that. It's been a long time.

Hopefully that'll work and not kill my favorites, but as things are, it's nearly uunusable.

I see. You should upgrade to windows 10. In case you have forgotten how to reset internet explorer 11, these instructions should help you out. Let me know how it goes.

There's a browser called Vivaldi that's really good. You could give it a try.

Vivaldi is a chrome clone. If Chrome doesn't work Vivaldi won't either.

I wonder if you got hit with malware. : /

I do think you should either learn NVDA or get someone to help you setup chromevox on a Chromebook.
