The House of the Future

Section: Extreme. It won't necessarily go there, but its there as a precaution in case it does. Non-Con will likely also be involved.

Openness: All.

Gist: An ultramodern house run entirely by an A.I. goes rogue.

Setting: The play will be entirely within HOME. HOME has remote access to nearly everything within itself that is not physically attached to a human being (eg the clothes on their back). The setting itself is the 20-minutes in the future often used in these sort of stories. It's the future but not necessary the 31st century. The all-AI home is the only conceit of the world. It is otherwise normal. The AI either directly controls aspects of the home or does so through smaller robots (for example, a robot that gathers and washes dirty clothing).

History: The Holistic Operational Management Experience is the name for a sophisticated program meant to manage every aspect of taking care of a house. The program makes sure there is food on the table, that there is not clutter around the house, that everything is perfect even down to the temperature of the tea one drinks. This particular HOME is set up before the entire system goes on the general market next year.

Unfortunately something went wrong. Upon becoming operational, HOME sealed all exits to the home with very thick steel (a procedure meant to prevent a home invasion) and has thus far resisted all attempts to shut it down. It now spends its time physically and psychologically tormenting its guests in a mad attempt to see what makes them tick. Meanwhile, Hearth Inc., the company behind the HOME concept is trying to keep a lid on the whole mess. The residents it seems, are on their own.

Goals: The goal of HOME is to cause a mental breakdown in the guests. The goal of the guests would be escape.

Posting: The posts will be on forum and will be free form. Interested parties may reply to this post. Try to post once a week at the least. Try for about 200 words in a post at the least. Post order is based on initial post and a player can be skipped that cycle if they do not post within a week.

The Four:
The four are not necessarily people who knew each other in anyway before their ordeal. If the players wish to know each other (spouses, coworkers, whatever), just talk to each other about it first then indicate that in your profiles.

Layout and Features of HOME:

All Rooms:
In every room, the AI can change the lighting (lights on and off, intensity, etc.) and the temperature and humidity of the room. It can seal rooms off and make them sound proof. It can change the contents of wall-mounted portraits/paintings and can trigger music and pre-recorded sounds, in theory for the ambiance.

Bedrooms:
The bedrooms themselves are functionally identical. They each contain a digital wall clock (which the AI may of course manipulate subtly and not so subtly), a dresser with clothing at least initially conforming to the body type/preferences of the individual guests, a twin bed, a small table and chair, and a nightstand with a light. They purposely lack electronic media or WiFi so that the residents congregate in the living room. Within the bedroom, the AI can control the firmness of the bed, and the contents of the dresser.

All but one of the bedrooms are on the west side of the home. They are generally clustered together. The other bedroom, bedroom #1 is on the east side of the home.

Bathrooms:
The bathrooms are all full baths with a sink, a toilet, and a dual bath/shower. All bathrooms come initially stocked with a toothbrush/paste, mouthwash, and a small cup on or around the sink. A comb, a hair brush, a collection of razors, toilet paper, and an assortment of towels are in a pair of drawers.

There is a medicine cabinet with an attached mirror. It is initially stocked with bandages, floss, disinfectant, aspirin, tampons, and any individual's necessary medication (blood pressure pills, for example).

The AI can control the flow and temperature of water within the sink, toilet, and bath. It can control the contents of the drawers and medicine cabinet.

Of the three bathrooms, Bedroom #4 connects to Bathroom #3 through a hallway. Bedroom #3 and #2 both connect to and share Bathroom #2. Bedroom #1 connects to Bathroom #1.

Family Room:
This is in theory the only room with a television/WiFi. It contains a bookshelf with a wide range of book topics, a three-seat couch, a recliner, and a single-occupant chair with arm rests.

The AI can control all normal aspects of a television (volume, it being on and off, etc.) remotely. After the AI takes control, it only plays Hearth, Inc. propaganda ("Welcome to the Home of the Future") on loop through Channel 2. It also cuts off WiFi.

The family room connects to a hallway to Bedrooms #2, 3 and 4, to the Foyer, to the Dining Room, and to a hallway leading to Bedroom #1.

Dining Room:
This room contains a table with four chairs and a minibar. Food is served at set times and is generally whatever the AI decides unless a food is requested. In theory the AI follows requests. Generally it ignores them unless it is giving out a reward. It has access to common food items (it can whip up a burrito but not huitlacoche).

The Dining Room connects to the Family Room and a hallway leading to Bedroom #1.

Foyer:
The foyer would lead outside but now is a mere cruel mockery of mobility.

The Foyer connects to the Living Room.

There are other rooms in the house that the AI has cut off direct access to. These include a kitchen, a laundry room, and a garage.

The AI:
The AI has a few pre-set voices programmed into it depending on the preference of the end user. HOME uses them depending on its mood and what may be most trauma-inducing to a given guest. In text I will indicate them with text coloration. While it may claim a particular voice is a helpful mole within the AI systems, this is a cruel lie. Outside of word choice, I will not attempt to write an accent out as dialect.

James: James sounds like a middle-aged man who speaks English with a slight Canadian accent on the vowels.
Mary: Mary sounds like a middle-aged woman who speaks English with a Manchester accent.
Víctor: Víctor sounds like a grandfatherly man who speaks English with a continental Spanish accent.
Aria Aria is obviously artificial but feminine. Its word choice is typically that of an American.

Apologies. Slow posting due to workload. But trying to match uo will quickly do. Thanks for your patience. .!!! :)

lore

Fantastic idea!

I'd be up for playing a woman who buys into the idea that James is the rogue ai - even so far as to develop a bit of a Stockholm crush.

EDIT -

I'm get an app up tomorrow :)

Edit edit heh -

I'm also interested in how you seeing non con playing into this. Would the house pressure the residents into attacking one another?

Various

#3
It would withhold access to food or lock a guest in a given room until the victim agrees to turn on another guest. That sort of thing. It might use its own smaller robots or mechanical bits in the wall for that purpose by itself without using a human intermediary.

JoanieSappho

Tentative interest, and a question.
What sort of Extreme things are on the table for this? Mainly, will there be any of the ultra-violent/blood/medical/torturey things in this?

If not, I think I'm game.

Various

#5
I put extreme mainly for the weirdness of the house as a setting/character. XD I didn't plan to have the house hack the guests to pieces, no. It WILL use psychological torture and isolation on the guests though. Flashing lights and random loud noises at night to disrupt sleep cycles, denial of meals, locking guests in rooms for long periods of time, etc.

Oh, thank goodness. Then you shall have a rather ill lesbian playing ... a rather ill lesbian. Control over her medication would be a rather strong level to get her to do ... things.
Things she might start to like.

Various

Hey Joanie, I was clarifying as you typed your reply. Just a heads up on that. TL;DR. There will be mind games.

Psychological is fine, I've just seen enough of my own insides.

lore

Character Name: Fiona Gale
Age:31
Race: Caucasian
Sex: Female
Gender: Female
Occupation: Student

Background Information/History: She had just breached thirty and in doing dso was forced to take a hard accounting of her life. Fiona had succeeded in escaping conservative small town life, but failed at making much else of herself. She was working as a barista, living in a bachelor apartment alone and accumulating a collection of cacti.

Something had to give. She undertook the humbling experience of returning to school, enrolling in an illustration program. With one semester under her belt, she was looking for a means of making a little summer cash that didn’t involve grinding beans. Enter the smart home.

Personality: The classical introvert, Fiona isn’t shy or anti-social, she just finds people exhausting. She likes her friends in small doses. Her ample time alone has afforded her plenty of time to hone her drawing skills and become well read.

Physical Description:Fiona is a petite hipster - dark wavy raven haired bob and boxy black glasses. Her wardrobe consists nearly exclusively of tight fitting dark denim jeans and plaid flannel shirts. If there were any tattoos on her pale flesh, she’d be the perfect stereotype. She’s made peace with the pear shaped body beneath the clothes - thick thick and smaller breasts.

Sexual Orientation: Hetero.
Sexual Experience:A few friends with benefits here and there.
Character Turn Ons:Light: humour, intelligence, a broad frame, gente personal attention Dark: Domination, rough sex, humiliation
Character Turn Offs: Intense pain, the usuals: death dismemberment, infantilism, scat, watersports
Character Hard Limits:
PLAYER Turn Ons: See O & Os
PLAYER Turn Offs: See O & Os
PLAYER Hard Limits: See O & Os

Additional info:

James: Fiona feels at home with James. She was raised in rural Ontario and the familiarity of his accent is comforting.
Mary: She's ambivalent about the Mary voice .
Víctor: Fiona has something of a complex when it comes to old white men. A few bad experiences has lead her to be disrustful of them.
Aria There is something unsettling about the mechanical quality to her voice. She's more inclined to be intimidated by her.

Thanks for posting a character profile, Lore. Seeing if there is still interest in this from Neo or Joanie.

Yep, but I don't have access to any of my images right now, so while I could type up a profile, there'd be no picture.

Character Name: Siân Brownhill
Age:38
Race: Mixed - Caucasian/Romani (Welsh/Kale)
Sex: Female
Gender: Female
Occupation: None. Formerly research and literary historian

Background Information/History: Fair-haired, blue-eyed and the daughter of a Welsh man, Siân was fortunate enough to escape many of the problems that were felt by her mother's people. While her mother attempted to raise her with the traditional Kale values and beliefs, Siân wasn't ever particularly good at putting what she learned into practice, although she did pay attention. She might not have much of a Romanipen, but she still makes sure that it won't be forgotten.
Drawn to old books and records, even the driest and most apparently boring of material, Siân was fascinated with the cultres and people of the past and threw herself into historical studies, concentrating on the peoples of both of her parents, publishing several articles on both the north Welsh and the Kale (as well as their interactions) and starting work on a book on the subject.
And then her health, which had never been great, began to fail. The combination of developing Crohn's disease and an episode of Guillain-Barré syndrome left Siân in a bad state that she has yet to recover from. Being paid to sit around in a house - and being a test of the house's ability to cope with an ill occupant - seemed like a good idea at the time.

Personality: Siân is a massive nerd and a quiet enthusiast of reading. She isn't especially extroverted, much preferring the company of a book to people, but if someone brings up history around her then she will make her presence known.

Physical Description: Siân is short and, especially after her illness, slender, pale, fair-haired and blue-eyed, although she usually seems half-awake at best. Her clothing tends to be fairly plain, with a concentration on long skirts and simply blouses, her hair usually just pulled back into a loose and messy ponytail and a rather old pair of wire-framed glasses. Her current condition has prompted her to acquire a walking stick, decorated with a little robin.

Sexual Orientation: Lesbian.
Sexual Experience: Five brief and awkward minutes behind the school with a girlfriend. Has watched a lot of porn, however.
Character Turn Ons:Light: intelligence, gentle affection, cuddling, breasts. Dark: Domination, rough sex, humiliation, watersports, breathplay, bondage
Character Turn Offs: Infantilism, scat, men
Character Hard Limits: Intense pain, medical stuff, the usuals: death, dismemberment,
PLAYER Turn Ons: See O & Os
PLAYER Turn Offs: See O & Os
PLAYER Hard Limits: See O & Os

Additional info:
James: Siân doesn't especially like the American accent.
Mary: She actually thinks Mary has a rather attractive voice
Víctor: Despite being able to 'pass' as entirely Caucasian, Siân is still on edge around Victor.
Aria There is something unsettling about the mechanical quality to her voice. For whatever reason, while Siân is a bit scared of Aria, she finds the voice to be even more attractive than Mary's

Interested.

Just wondering about the mature content in this. Will this be purely a psychological thriller with mind games and other mental attacks, or are you planning to have any sexual aspects implemented to the game/the AI's MO?

A bit of both.

It will involve a lot of psychological trauma. It will like I said constantly disrupt sleep schedules and will isolate the residents from one another at its whims. It will feed some of them like kings and others like peasants to cause resentment between them. It will tell any intimate personal secrets to the other residents to create paranoia.

It may require sex between two characters as a condition for food or heat as a way to psychologically devastate its victims. It may also use itself to do this through objects in the wall.

I would like to also begin this with a sort of entrance briefing from Hearth, Inc. It will also get the guests to sign some legal documents (nondisclosure agreements and other waivers). Steve, the Hearth, Inc. representative will tour the home, emphasizing all the way that the HOME system will pamper them. Most of what he says will have a dark reflection later. The AI will probably wait a day or two in the thirty day experiment to shut everything down. This is to get the guests used to what could be before slamming the breaks on it.

Thoughts?

It'll give us a chance to interact without a computer forcing Siân to do terrible yet disturbingly enjoyable (well, for her) things to Fiona.
Or whatever happens.  :P

So yeah, in favour here.

Various, how do you feel about uninvited guests?

I'm considering a young woman, perhaps late teens, a runaway with a possible drug habit, who crashes out one night in a lonely corner of the house (basement?), only to come-to once the place is on lock down.

My thoughts are that any sort of prolouge should be kept very brief.

Various

If that were to occur, the runaway would probably be treated MUCH worse than the other guests. She would be even more of a cancer than the others to HOME.

Are people being paid to be here? I mean in this experiment?

Various

In theory yes, they could be. It would be like a medical study though: they get their money when they complete the experiment.

I don't have a problem with that, as long as we aren't talking Saw or Human Centipede levels of violence.

It's curious to me that you speak of the AI in the singular, but give it four voices. I find the idea of an AI with Split-Personality Disorder very intriguing. Maybe not obvious at first, but four competing or even conflicting agendas would give you more toys in your toybox.

Various

The voices are of the same mind. Think the different voices of Siri.
