Snow Cherry

The unseen pulse of the wind outside
Hastily bid his heart to follow step.
Every night was the same, so it seemed.

Warily stretching out towards slumber over his tent…
Oak trees would hum their lullaby with the wind.
Rubbing rough twigs and dropping their
Dead leaves; these trees knew that autumn had passed.
Secret knowledge spoke to him “winter is here…

Etching its cold tendrils into the deepest earth, death
Could not be any closer!”
How could his life slip so quickly?
Over the years which were taken for granted he now
Endures the inner pain, the blatant fact, that
Death knocks at his door. Now, these are the

Dreams that scare you and make you cry.
Odd they may be, yes. But
When your time has come and when you find that
Nothing has been prepared for this moment…

A bed of comfortable and loving ashes shall be your rest.

Loving and comfortable indeed!
Opportunity has passed him by, so sad.
Nurturing soul, open heart, intimate love, humble pride, fervent spirit,
Generous mind, rooted family, and inspirational motives will

Secure any man into existence and place worth
Into his being.
Long is his night…his night of realization.
“Each and every day” He cried, “I worked for nothing!
No amount of possession can replace the depth of love
That I lack!” True, he had everything.

Comaros and boats, condos and vacation homes,
Occasional parties and friends here and there;
Rest assured, he had it all. His big,
Red brick mansion with a beautiful manicured lawn which
Invited everyone’s ‘ooos’ and ‘awws’ was his pride. But –
Death is here, my friend.
Oak trees will continue to hum their lullaby with autumn and
Racing pulses of the unseen wind shall continue

Into every year of our earth.
Never before have you felt so alone than this

Hour, where darkness and slumber
Indent your emotions. Dreams
Slip into your

Mind,
Into your
Nerves to announce the presence of
Death.
