So, coming from some other roleplaying sites, I was used to use anime pictures as pictures for my character and they were kind of easy to find through various anime porn boorus and so....
but to my discomfort (but greater eye pleasure :P ) I found out that E seems to dislike anime pictures....So here is my question: where does everybody find these totally perfect model photos and the right for their particular character? D:

It's not that we dislike anime characters.  All too often, though, they are perceived as being younger than the required 18 years of age appearance.  Many anime characters appear childlike even when they are of age.

Google is your friend for finding images, though.  Put anything in the search field and hit enter then click the images option.  Turn off the filter if you want sexy pictures.

For some reason my efforts at linking a picture here have always failed, although I've been using the proper code, like this (I am changing out one of the square brackets now to make the coding style come out: [IMG)url[/IMG]. It just doesn't "take" even though the url has been to a pic uploaded at an image site: all I get is a place marker. Also, the option of uploading pics as attachments seems to be disabled by default. Can somebody explain? I don't think the problem is that the image sites I've been using would have some error that stops them from being linked up here.

An image must end in .png or .jpg mostly...so you don't take the url from top of the bar (like google.com) but right click on the image and click "copy image URL" (like https://www.google.com/images/srpr/logo3w.png )

I tend to follow a few tumblr feeds that appeal to my interests.  When a potential picture comes down, I either Like or Reblog it for later use.  It's the same place I get my avatars, too.

When I google I generally use the word 'model' somewhere in my search. Or you can look for a model site. There are plenty of tumbler pages dedicated to beautiful men and women.

Not to mention that you can look through the Finders and Seeker's forum. We are constantly posting pictures there that you can use for character images if you so desire.

As for getting a picture to show up in a thread there are buttons that wrap around your code either before or after you type it in.

Take for instance my avatar. With out the IMG code it looks like this

http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt317/in_the_dark_photos/Male/ava/ava_dissi8.jpg

So if i highlight the entire string and press the Insert Image button

It displays as a picture

Many people resize their pictures using code. Someone else will have to help you with that. I prefer to use thumbnails and have the image link to a larger version of that image. To do that you highlight the image code and the link contained with in it and press the Insert Hyperlink button Then insert the link to the new image preceded by an = sign after the 'L' in the first url.

Click the the following image and a new picture will open up in a new tab. It's a different image because apparently I don't have a larger version of it... I'll have to go hunting later...

Since my character pictures are generally not showing naughty parts I host them at photobucket and that site will generate your codes and links for you.

You can always upload it all to the Elluiki - avatars, characters, signatures, settings, all that.

You can then sort (and find) your uploaded content through the MY CONTRIBUTIONS link. ;)

My question is: is that legal? I suspect that most of the images used as avatars are copyrighted... I wouldn't want to get into trouble because of using some copyrighted picture.

GothicFires

It's one of those things that if the owner of the copyright asks you to stop, then you stop. but you would most likely not get caught. If you use someone's artwork directly from their website you want to respect their stated feelings on using their images for avatars. But for the most part it's a non issue.

What about getting sued or prosecuted? Does it happen?

GothicFires

Unless you have made money off someone else's work then they generally do not sue you for using it without their permission when you agree to stop. And in the grand scheme of things, using an image as an avatar is not that big of a deal.

Yes, as Gothic says. The real trouble begins when an artwork is used to generate money without permission. Things do get sometimes nasty when an artwork is used without permission as a prominent feature (of a website, say), but for a user's avatar?

It's not worth it. Especially if the user agrees to stop.

Many people resize their pictures using code. Someone else will have to help you with that.

It's really very simple: when you insert your image, after the initial "img" part you add in either height or width and a value, and it will make the image conform to that value (if you only use either height or width, it will maintain the image's scale for you; if you want to change the scale you have to enter both a new height and new width).

For my avatars, I generally use movie images, so mine are pretty easy to find...but for characters...I tend to use Deviant Art and Model Mayhem. On Deviant Art, I never use images if the artist says on the image or on their userpage not to use their work for any purposes. Deviant Art has a nice little tag with a big red stop sign that most users use when they do not want you to use their images.
