  • SPACE! Mankind's birthright! Ever since the development of the Alcubierre drive in 1994, extrasolar colonies have brought unlimited resources and living space to the people of earth! Elevating us above the petty conflicts of the 20th century. But the Enemy doesn't like that. The aliens that destroyed our colony on 51 Pegasai want nothing more than to destroy everything we as a species hold dear!
  • FIGHT BACK! The United Nations Space Force is building a fleet to retake the Pegasai system, but to do that they'll need all the help they can get! The UN is looking for the best and brightest sons and daughters of earth to make the ultimate sacrifice. These brave men and women will receive the best training and equipment in human history and form the strongest fighting force in the universe!
  • YOU CAN HELP TOO! The United Nations Space Force is also the most diverse fighting force in history as well! Accepting applicants of all Nationalities, Races, Creeds, Genders, and sexual orientations! Anybody ready to give there life for the homeworld and able to fight for humanity is welcome!
  • UNLOCK YOUR HIDDEN POTENTIAL! Extra Sensory Perception, commonly known as ESP, forms the backbone of interstellar communications and navigation. Without it our ships would be lost forever in the void of space. Now in the war Espers are finding a new job on the front lines, predicting enemy movements, and preparing to communicate with the aliens and negotiate there unconditional surrender once it's time for them to beg for mercy! If you think you or somebody you know may be Psychic, contact UN Intelligence immediately!
  • ARMOR UP! The Mark II Combat Suit is the next generation of personal armor, Allowing a soldier to fight in all environments and carry as much firepower as and entire platoon! Inside your armor you will become the deadliest weapon in the entire universe, the Mobile Infantryman
  • ENLIST TODAY! So what are you waiting for, mother earth needs you! Visit your local recruiting station today!

So I've been playing MuvLuv, and reading the forever war has been making me want to run a good old fashioned game of space marines in powered armor training to fight an unknown alien foe. In the Vein of Starship Troopers (the book and the movie) as well as Gunbuster, Muvluv, The Forever war, Ender's game, and maybe Aliens and Full Metal jacket too.
I'm not sure I could run a whole campaign yet, but I think I could at least do a Full Metal jacket type training segment, and then see what happens next.

The RP would be mostly plot driven but contain a good deal of smut. As in The Starship troopers movie, the showers would be co-ed, and as in The Forever war, enlisted soldiers would be expected to double up on bunks. (Officers are supposed to be celibate and can be court martialed if they get caught, but everyone knows they fuck anyways).

kobrakid92

The similar sounding Starship Troopers plot caught my attention. Count me in. So where do I sign?

Just take the UN Aptitude Exam son! We'll find the right job for you! And Congratulations!

Name: Last, First, Middle
Appearance: Description, image, or both
Gender: M/F/Other
Sexuality: Do ask do tell
Age: Accepting applicants between the ages of 17 and 21
Nationality: Citizens of any UN member nation may join. (OOC: in this alt future, the soviet union still exists)
Aptitude: Leave Blank for general infantry, or select from the list.

Players may chose general infintry for a well rounded grunt, or pick a specialty in exchange for an equivalent drawback. Possible specialties are:

  • General Infantry: You aren't specificly good at anything, but you don't have any real flaws either. Specialization is for insects.
  • Leadership: You have a natural charisma and can take change in stressful situations. This makes you a prime candidate for promotion to squad leader, but will also attract unwanted attention from your superiors.
  • Marksmanship: You have a natural talent with long range weapons, able to calculate ballistic trajectories and judge distances in your head. Unfortunately your contemplative approach to combat lacks the ferocity needed in a close quarters brawl
  • Close Combat: You have a natural fighting spirit which makes you react quicker in close combat, but your skill in long range is limited.
  • ESP: You are an ESPer. Able to read and project thoughts telepathically. With the right training you can even send messages across many lightyears. Most Espers have to deal with seeing things they wish they hadn't, or suffering discrimination from people who fear them.
  • Medic/Engineer/Chaplin: You have a reduced combat ability, but in exchange have more specialized training allowing you to heal people, fix machines, or tend to the spiritual needs of your comrades.
  • Lucky: You aren't sure how you made it this far. There is nothing special about you, and you definitely aren't as good a soldier as all the others, but somehow you've managed to stay out of trouble and stay alive.
  • Other: Shoot an idea at me and If I Like it, I'll approve it. If not, we'll talk until a compromise is reached.

Are ESPers limited to telepathy or might they have other powers as well?

Telepathy and remote viewing is the most common. Precognition is less common and less understood, but tends to manifest spontaneously in people with remote viewing abilities. Telekinesis (as well as pyro and cryokinesis) are the rarest of all and and individual with such talents would be too valuable to risk in combat.

[Hoping this is okay with everyone. For one, her gender. For another, her aptitude. I originally wanted to make her EOD (explosives ordinance disposal) but I didn't know how much use a bomb squad would see in this story. So I thought, maybe, instead of bomb disposal, why not someone who uses explosives to help marines breech stuff? Like planting charges on ships or bases while in combat? I don't know if EOD soldiers PLANT bombs as well as dispose of them, so I thought EXO might be a neat futuristic offshot or something. If any of this is a problem I can change it. I'm not married to it. :) ]

Hmm, Personally I'm not into dickgirls usually, but I said the UNSF was open to all. So I'll give it a chance If I don't like it you can still do sexual scenes with the other players.
As for Explosives? A combat engineer would be trained in the use of explosives. Cleaning up unexploded ordinance, deploying demo charges, and digging trenches and such.
Keep in mind that most explosives you will be working on will be micronukes. Tiny direct fusion (or antimater) bombs with variable outputs anywhere between "Hand grenade" up to the megaton range. Everyone will have basic training using them, but you will have access to the more powerful settings and know how to do sensitive things such as repair the magnetic containment on a damaged antimatter explosive.

So do you only get one power?

Oh sorry I should have been more specific, You have telepathy and remote viewing, and when the plot requires it, sometimes precognition.

MzHyde

Well, I'll change her to a regular female unless we get someone with interest.

Just thought I'd point out that there are two other girls listed, it's not as if the guys are going to be short on "entertainment" since there's only two on offer so far.

Erf... It's amazing what happens when you don't post immediately but leave the window open... *chuckles* I missed one of them, and only saw the dickgirl...

At any rate, at least one of them (perhaps 2 by now) are lesbian, so still a market. ;)

And, I just wanted to play a female for the role. lol

Thanks for correcting me; I REALLY need to check myself more often.

Yes there's still a market, I wasn't trying to say there wasn't, just that there were girls in play already is all. Sorry if I sounded snippy.

Alright, this is a lot of people so quickly! I think I'm gonna choke it off at 8 because I want a round number but don't want to push anybody off. I Figure a big party wont be as much of a problem when the Drill instructors are addressing the whole squad. And if things get too chaotic we can allways kill people off in unfortunate training accidents. Our roister seems to be pretty well rounded. I wish there were more guys, but hey, it's porn.

I don't think anyone will really be complaining. Hell most of the girls are bi so there should be enough "companionship" to go around despite the guys being so outnumbered.

Oh yeah, here's a quick backstory.

The Nazis build a lunar colony in WWII and flee to it after the Red Army captures Berlin. The Naizs use there V-4 mass driver to bombard earth from the moon, forcing the Allies to focus on mounting an attack on there lunar colony.
Instead of nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the bombs are used to destroy the Nazi-moon colony. With the moon base now held by the allies, Imperial japan conditionally surrenders, ending the war.
In the Post war boom, the sexual revolution takes full power, making society more liberal and open with sex, Technological inovations from the war cure most STDs and the conservative movement never fully recovers,
The US and soviet space forces both lay claim to the moon, for both it's supply of Helium 3, and the V-4 which can still be used to attack targets on earth.
The cold war escalates, resulting in several small conflicts on earth including the Korean and Vietnamese wars, but the US and USSR space fleets never end up firing there weapons in anger.
During the cold war, both superpowers investigate the potential of individuals with Extra Sensory Perception for there respective space forces. The Ability to send messages faster than light makes them an essential tool for interplanetary communications.
In 1989 Gorbachev and Regan sign a peace treaty that establishes the United Nations Space force as the sole military authority in space. Gorbachev's reformed Soviet union is much more willing to negotiate with the United states and Japanese Empire, leading to peace between the three superpowers.
In 1994, Mexican scientist Miguel Alcubierre invents the Alcubierre drive, a device which allows a spacecraft to travel faster than light by warping space around itself.
In the following decades, the UNSF explores stars which may contain earth-like planets and establishes a series of off-world colonies. Hoping to reduce the burden on the now overpopulated earth.
Then, in 2012, telepathic contact with a colony on a planet orbiting the star 51 Pegisai suddenly ceases. The last messages received were only the emotions of fear and anger, suggesting the colony had been attacked by an unknown enemy.

Also, where shall the RP be placed?

If we are just starting with Boot camp, probably Human NC, if I ever decide to run actual combat that would probably be extreme exotic?

kobrakid92

I think running actual combat would be good for the game. Rather then it just taking place in boot camp. I vote for extreme exotic, not just for the possible combat but also given the situation and back story.

Well I expect it to start out like Full metal jacket, with a boot camp section and a combat section. They would probably be separate threads.

kobrakid92

Alright that sounds like fun. I can't wait! I do have one last question though. Will the aliens be more like bugs from Starship Troopers or Xenomorphs from the Alien series, or just some random hostile species?

It's a surprise!

AKunoichi

Okay I was gonna post the IC, BUT HOLY FUCK THERE'S A PROBE LANDING ON MARS RIGHT NOW!

Chaeronea

Dammit! I've just discovered this game, which sounds great (even though I despised the Starship Troopers movie I loved the novel and the 'Roughnecks' animated series, and the 1990s TV series 'Space Above and Beyond' which sounds like it could fit in quite nicely with this setting) - and then I find out that it's already full!  *sigh*

Can I at least go on the short list in case a vacancy crops up?

AKunoichi

Yes feel free.

As for the Starship Troopers movie, I am conflicted on it. It's a very fun movie, but it was written as a direct insult to the book. Im also torn over ALIENS. It's a fun movie, but it tries to hard to be a heavy handed Vietnam allegory that dosn't really work. (if the VC were xenomorphs we would have been able to just bomb Vietnam into dust and win the war) The plot goes out of it's way to make the humans stupid just to so Aliens can win.

Although to be fair, the only Vietnam allegory that actually felt like Nam was the Forever war.

ANYWAYS, rant over. What kind of character would you make were there room?

Chaeronea

#33
Well there are a couple of characters whom I've used as base templates for characters in several different roleplaying genres.

One idea I had for this game was a former gang survivor who had gotten his act together and joined up when the news about the 51 Pegasei incident hit the media, hoping his toughness and MMA/shootfighting experience would be enough to get him into the Marines to help him make a break with his old life and get a clean start. Unfortunately Kobrakid and Irish Wolf already had male CQC specialists written up, so I bopped this idea on the head and dumped it by the roadside.

The idea I wound up going with was a guy whose family have been US Marines for generations, so there's the expectation that he'll join the Corps and serve as well, and he's wanted to do so fromn a young age. On the other hand his dad, who runs a construction business utilising his experience as a US Marine combat engineer, doesn't want him to join up in case he comes home in a body bag. However my character still wants to join up, especially after word of the 51 Pegasei incident hits the news. He's quite fit and he's got a fair idea of what things were like in the USMC from family stories and chatting with their service buddies, but he'd still be in for a shock when he finally goes through basic training. I'm not trying to make my character a Marty Stu or anything, but you mentioned in the OOC thread that doing things too well in Basic was as bad as screwing up - I was thinking of having my character do that. Something like the following...

DI: Davis, you completed the obstacle course with no major problems. Congratulations!
Character: (smugly) Sir, thank you sir!
DI: But the rest of your squad had trouble. Now, what's the main lesson that one of you maggots who wants to be a Marine needs to learn? I'll tell you, maggot! It's TEAMWORK! And as a member of their squad, you need to show teamwork by showing them how it's done!
Character: <hesitantly> ..Sir?
DI: And they've been having so much trouble with this simple obstacle course you need to show each one of them individually how it's done properly! Pick one, take them around the course showing them how it's done properly, and finish here. Then pick another one and do it again until you've shown them all ho it's done properly. There are eight others in your squad, since you are a maggot rather than a human and therefore can't count, so that will be another eight laps around the obstacle course! Understood, Davis?
Character: Sir, yes sir!  <thinks to himself> Oh fuck...

And here's the character sheet...

Name: Davis, Russell Kevin
Appearance: Russell stands six foot even in height with a lean but surprisingly well-defined build. His hair is dark brown and wavy, his eyes are normally deep blue but pale to an icy shade when he is truly angry, and his clean-shaven features are quite handsome.
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Age: 18
Nationality: American
Aptitude: Leadership. You have a natural charisma and can take change in stressful situations. This makes you a prime candidate for promotion to squad leader, but will also attract unwanted attention from your superiors.

AKunoichi

Chaeronea, if you are still interested, you can join, Just assume your character was there the whole time.
As for people who are in but have been lagging behind, I'm assuming you are still there but have managed to stay out of trouble.
Also there are a bunch of implied but unseen characters. It's a Platoon of about 30 ish people roughly evenly divided between men and women.

If new people want to join after this. Same rules follow, read the backlogs and submit a character to me, If I agree, you can pretend you were there the whole time.

For specialities, I'll prefer people at this stage be generalists, or use a speciality that hasn't been taken yet. This will change if somebody drops out. A Chaplin* or lucky person would be cool.

*A Chaplin does not have to be a prude, this is the future of the 70s, the sexual revolution never ended, modern medicine cured aids before it could take hold, and the conservative movement is dead in the water. Most religions have become more liberal and neopagan/new age religions are more common.
