I figured it would give her a more concrete 'role' in the unit other than just piloting a grunt suit. You know, like there's a Demolitions man, and a Medic. Wouldn't Pilot be an acceptable role for her?

Could just call her Armored Infantry? xD I don't know, a Mighty Grunt isn't exactly a toy, its some heavy weapons, I think giving her too many others skills on top of it would be a bit much. I don't mind her also being their transport driver too, though. But to say something like Pilot or Vehicle Specialist implies she can drive all sorts of things.

I'd suggest dropping the Mighty Grunt thing so you could make her a full-on Pilot and give her a helicopter and everything, but that might make ground combat a little boring.

TheHangedOne

I think having her be the driver would be a good idea. Presumably, they have some sort of van or other personnel carrier to get their group to wherever it is they're deploying, right? The bonus here, is that we can have a reasonable place for them to have a stockpile of ammo  and medical gear and supplies to use, without having to lug around tons of the stuff on their persons.  Plus, the Medic could have things that aren't really portable in the carrier, making it able to convert into something of an impromptu ambulance.

Also, you really would need some place to keep the Mighty Grunt suit safe when it's not being actively worn.

Or maybe that would be a bit grandiose. Just my own two cents on the matter.

That's my major concern. They're a unit specializing in urban combat. Sure a pilot or something might be useful, but it would be a bit of a boring role to play, since a significant amount of it would be waiting outside while they rush into the building.

I think its a good compromise to say she can pilot a Mighty Grunt and drive like... their mobile HQ, like TheHangedMan suggested, it can have supplies, a place to put the MG, and stuff like that.

Hey, it was just an idea. No big deal. :x

Edit: I want a clear a few things up before I pop over my backstory. It didn't say so in the timeline, but which of the plates are completed at this point? I know they weren't completed in-order since Sector 6 never actually gets finished, and I think Sector 8 is completed early on since it exists in every FFVII thing, but it'd be nice to have an official ruling on that?

(Why is there so little info on upper Midgar? :( )

Without anything to the contrary, I think we can say all the Sectors but 6 are at least in livable condition.

First draft up!

Name: Sally Reynolds
Age: 18
Gender: Female

Rank: Sgt
Position: Mighty Grunt Pilot

Weapon: Mighty Grunt Weaponry- The standard loadout of a Mighty Grunt suit has two single-barreled machine-guns, one in each arm. They aren't as accurate as Sally would like, but the sheer amount of ammo they give her makes her feel better. Other weaponry is occasionally attached when the superiors deem it necessary.

Martial Arts- Despite being fairly petite, Sally is an avid student of the martial arts. When out of the Mighty Grunt suit (or when it's damaged to the point that she is forced to flee it) she moves swiftly with her claw bracers and rollerboots on her skintight undersuit. Considering the lack of actual armor on the undersuit, it's probably a good thing that she's quick on her feet!

Materia: Awaiting Assignment! It should be noted that it's effectively impossible to use Materia while piloting the Mighty Grunt, and her undersuit only has two material sockets.

Appearance:

When Sally dresses casual, she dresses CASUAL. She's a fan of all matter of (what she thinks are) stylish hats, and baggy shirts paired with shorts. It's a mobility thing. She's also a fan of boots, seeing as how she only really has a single pair of heels and sneakers in her room for formal events and exercise respectively. She does have the traditional MP street uniform and dress uniform, but she's generally going to be in the undersuit to her Mighty Grunt while she's in the field.

http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110816003249/finalfantasy/images/1/1a/Mighty_Grunt_Artwork.jpg

Much to her dismay, she's been unable to get approval to change her Mighty Grunt or undersuit's looks more than the unit's insignia. The Mighty Grunt is still that ugly shade of red, and the undersuit is still dark blue. Not fun!

Backstory: Sally Reynolds is a member of a surprisingly affluent family that currently lives on the Sector 8 Plate, her father a ShinRa scientist and her mother the heir to a prominent trading corporation. While not the strongest girl around, Sally was intelligent and quit, and tended to excel in school and gymnastics. A pair of overly doting parents also ensured that she basically got whatever she wanted. If she asked for a puppy, she got puppy triplets! If she wanted to learn how to protect herself, she got a wutai national to teach her martial arts. If she wanted chocolate, she got a personal chef. If she wanted to quit school and join the military, then- WAIT WHAT?!

Sally was caught up in the swell of patriotism predating the Wutai War, and quit school to join the military. She was inspired by the rising stars of the SOLDIER program, Sephiroth and Genesis, and joined their fan clubs pretty much right from the start. She has repeatedly applied to join the SOLDIER program, but for the time being has not been accepted. Instead, she managed to climb the ranks up to Sergeant in record time, and became a Mighty Grunt pilot. While she STILL wants to be a SOLDIER above all else, she does rather like riding around in powered armor.

Limit Breaks
1.1: Magun: Burning Gold! The critical point of all! Sally loads special ammunition that allows her to fire explosive shots over a small area, covering it in flames as hot a Phoenix's breath! (Mighty Grunt Only)
1.2: Flash Kick! A leaping vertical kick that makes great use of the undersuit's high speed. (Unarmored Only)

2.1: UNKNOWN
2.2: UNKNOWN

3.1: UNKNOWN
3.2: UNKNOWN

4.1: UNKNOWN

I think Mighty Grunt appearance customization would be more allowed in Delta Squad :o since they would allow more personalization of equipment than the standard military. :o

also, FFU reference? xD

And I like the character! :o

I'll work on getting some stuff together in the next few days.

Every Mighty Grunt limit break will be an FFU reference. :3

I figure she hasn't learned that she has permission to customize the Mighty Grunt yet, but will learn shortly. NEON PINK POWERED ARMOR GOOOO! >.>

Leo supports the choice, as it means more attention and attacks drawn to her instead of him. :P

Zaer Darkwail

Landon would agree to not to disagree but nor he would approve it. But his general gist is that 'if she plans to die inside that thing someday in dangerous mission, then let her paint it look whatever she wants it to look'. Altough it could bring some major eye brow raising from Shinra officials see all military colored Delta squad and then bright pink Mighty Grunt. Very least the grunt stands out from other grunts clearly ;).

Anyways eagerly wait for first IC thread and see what material will be having. I think in general I and Mighty Grunt work as duo who draws all attention of enemy fire while lightly armored folks use the covers and the distraction to advantage. In Landon's case he is more mobile tank who can fit inside buildings while Mighty Grunt focus on vechiles and such (if not bust inside to buildings).

Latooni Subota

The Mighty Grunt makes a snazzy target! IT HAS TWO GUN HANDS! SUCK THAT, BARRETT! >:3

After careful consideration I have decided it would be best for myself and the group if I were to drop this RP. Sorry to do this and I am sure you'll find someone to fill my spot. Have fun with your RP.

I'm sorry to hear that... well, that throws a bit of a wrench into things.

I think a demo expert is somewhat vital to a squad like this, but I also said I didn't want anyone else along... I also don't want to ask Latooni to switch to Demo, as she seems to be quite enjoying the Mighty Grunt, and I do like the idea of having one along...

I don't suppose anyone would like to play a second character?

If nobody else feels like doing it, I could, though Rachael would still be my 'primary' character.

Ideally, I'd like someone who can balance the two, but I'll take what I can get as long as neither character is neglected enough to weigh down the progress of the rp.

I could always just port Brandy over to fill the role. After all, if she can mix potions, and she can mix more..."recreational" concoctions, I'm sure she could make some interesting explosives. Besides, we've seen so many hot-headed demolition experts in fiction, so why not mix things up with a stoner? ;D

I'll get cracking on modifying her profile, then. Of course, if Latooni interjects and decides she wants the role, I'll pass it off to her.

Josh just wants to kick some ass, she can have her pink armor.

Let me know how this works.

Name: Brandy Denara
Age: 23
Gender: Female

Rank: Sergeant
Position: Demolitions Expert

Weapon: Brandy doesn't use anything in combat that wasn't made by her own two hands. However, there is a lot she can make with her own two hands. Grenades, bombs, plastic explosives, satchel charges, and even rockets for her Heavy Weapons friend can all be stitched together in her lab, in varieties of explosive, elemental, EMP, acidic, and even flavored. Of course, this mostly has to made beforehand; she can only improvise rudimentary explosives in the midst of combat, but she always comes with more than enough boom-boom on hand.

Of course, her close friends know that weaponry is hardly the only thing she makes in her lab...
Materia:

Appearance:
Brandy

Backstory: Born to a Junon dockworker and a Wutai sailor who really had no interest in being together after one night of ill-advised intimacy, Brandy spent a whole lot of her childhood traveling around, spending a few months with her mother in Junon, then shipping over to Wutai to be with her father, who, at the very least, started working jobs on land so he didn't have to make the girl sail with him everywhere. Both parents cared for the girl and did as much as they could to make her happy, but, of course, having two different sets of friends and two different cultures and languages to learn in two different regions made building a stable lifestyle difficult for the girl. So, naturally, as she got to thinking age, she started looking inward for something to cling to. By the time she was 10, she found it: science.

Brandy loved to learn, but not just anything. She didn't care about the historical significance of Junon, or the writings of the great Wutai storytellers. No, she didn't really care about what some dead people wrote or did at all; she just wanted to know what made their bodies function in the first place, and what made nature work around them. And the more she studied the hard sciences, the deeper she wanted to go, until chemistry and biology became her main views. The very essence of life. She set up chemical labs at both of her homes and conducted extensive, often nonsense experiments with whatever chemicals she could get her hands on. Of course, being a teenager by this point, when she discovered how certain chemicals could have relaxing, entertaining effects on the body, she started to follow this path of experimentation quite zealously, inviting her friends over to help test her results on those lazy afternoons, when her parents weren't looking.

Of course, however many dozens of mind-altering substances her research was beginning to create, one couldn't deny that, whether by hard work or by gifted nature, the girl was a genius when it came to chemicals. She ended up graduating early to be taken in by the Shinra Science Institute, where she worked as an intern for sometime before being hired into its permanent ranks. The money she started pulling in was enough to help her mother start an early retirement, but before she could do the same for her dad, the war with Wutai broke out and she was left unable to contact the man, leaving her to wonder whether or not he had been drafted, and whether he or not he was alive if he had.

Still, she didn't really know the reasons behind the war, and Shinra wasn't exactly eager to spread the truth about who the aggressor was, so she remained at her post, simply hoping the whole thing would blow over. Thankfully, she had never given up her old habits of producing some recreational compounds in her spare time, so she was able to keep her mind at ease through the ordeal, up until she got the offer to leave the lab and try some field work (secretly being seen as a liability to the more unethical research that would soon be moving into the HQ's on-site labs). It was a strange offer, but, always excited to try new things, Brandy went through some basic combat training and joined the military's Demolitions department, where she would eventually join up with Delta Squad. Now was the time where things would really get interesting.

Theme:

Limit Breaks
1.1: Smoke Bomb Brandy whips up a bomb with chemicals from her more personal stash and lobs it. Enemies caught in the small gas radius become completely pacified, completely non-inclined to attack for a little while.
1.2: Clusterscrew Brandy takes a satchel charge, ties several other explosives to it, and throws it enemy-ward. The initial blast launches the other explosives around the area before they detonate as well. High collateral damage.
