(OOC: Recruiting/OOC post. If you're interested, check it out there and let us know you're going to jump in!)

The morning alarm buzzed through the hallway. Cells - safer for the patients, the doctors believe - clicked open to allow the morning nurses in. Like a choreographed performance, they entered the rooms in sync, platters of pills in hands. The same routine every morning for the past five years.

Opal, her codename rather than the name she's almost forgotten after years locked in the metal-coated room, opened her eyes. The metallic sheen of her irises catch the light before she turned to look at her nurse. The woman said nothing to her - and hasn't for five years - but placed the pills and the paper cup of water on her nightstand. After a moment of examining the vitals printed from the machine connected to her, the nurse's clacking heels left her room. Then another clank of the lock falling closed.

She swung her legs over the side of the bed, feeling how heavy they'd become. Grabbing the cup and pills, she took them one by one - blue, green, red, pink. The water wasn't cold and only made the sweltering room even hotter. She rose, closing the robe closer around herself before moving to the corner of her room. The walls there, thinner than elsewhere, held the air vent.

As she knelt, she steadied herself with a hand and whispered through, "Are you awake?"

Norizuka woke up slowly, yawning and rubbing her eyes like a sleepy, tiny child. Her long black hair was somewhat messy, but she would brush it later like she did every day. She stretched her arms and looked at her nightstand. The Nurse was quick, gone before she even sat up, her daily medication and helpful supplement of water waiting for her. The cup floated over to her hand, as did the pills. She had significantly more medicine to take than anyone else in the Institute, save maybe those who might be in intensive care or in an emergency condidtion. She took sips as she downed the pills, getting through half of them until she heard Opal. She looked over and reached her hand out. Her cane obediently arrived at her hand and she struggled out of her bed, walking over to the vent, "Yes." Her small voice floated back, delivering her short answer. She continued taking the pills, standing tripod with her two feet and the cane, leaning on it with both hands. Her pills lined up midair outside her mouth and entered one by one as she took more water from the cup to help them down her throat.

"Are you feeling alright today?" She fell back into a sitting position, the clang from her heavy body reverberating through the small room. With a wince, she rubbed her lower back. "It's Monday, right? Another set of experiments?"

She stretched her legs out, examining her legs as they slipped from the robe. Her veins were grey now, bordering on black. Assimilation, they told her. That's what they were aiming for. Iron mixed with carbon. Steel in her veins. Or, at least, when they pumped enough into her it would be. The amount of carbon in her blood was too high to make it anything worthwhile. But putting more iron could kill her without proper nutrition.

Forcing herself to her feet with arms that shook under the weight, she leaned a hand against the wall, the metal warping. It'd been years since they'd allowed plaster. "Think of a way to get out?"

"Yes. I am feeling alright." Zuka said, finishing her pills and then drinking the rest of her water, "It is Monday." She answered, not bothering to confirm the second part. They all know what Monday means, when they can remember what day it is. The paper cup found its way back on the nightstand. More mind      and exercises of her mental powers, just like all the previous weeks.
"You know I have not." She answered, a little annoyed that she had asked. Zuka had long given up on escape and tries to convince Opal of the same, but only halfheartedly. Deep down she desperately wanted out, but seeing no way that's possible, no longer tried. The security of The Genesis Institute was top notch and beyond. They are all watched constantly, anything they do out of the ordinary is reviewed and analyzed constantly. What might as well be a private army lived on the island to guard it, keeping things out and in. Even if they got out of their cells when they're not supposed to, they would have to get across miles of water to the nearest land, much less civilization.
Every story has a happy ending.

Opal's shoulders dropped an inch as she hears the negative answer. "Just thought I'd ask," she said, glancing out the window. A few of the ivy leaves dangled near the glass. She moved toward it, fingers spreading across the reinforced window over the leaf. "There's got to be some way. I refuse to believe we'll be stuck here forever."

The second morning alarm sounded, another loud buzz, and the outside doors swung open. The monotonous footsteps of their testers, their captors, came down the hall. "Good luck," she said, tearing her eyes away from the small ray of hope. "Don't let them hurt you. I'll see you at lunch."

Norizuka didn't answer and got on her bed before her escort showed up. She looked up at him, blankly, like she did every week.
"Come on." He grunted, also like every week. The entire institute seemed like some kind of repetitive purgatory. She got off the bed and walked beside the man, who had to walk extremely slow for the small girl. The sound of her  moving down the hall was distinct from anyone else, with two light footfalls and then the clack of her cane connecting with the tiled floor. The man brought her to an elevator and took her up a number of flight, the machine stopped, opening to a single room with no exits but the elevator. Top floor, but a single room. Every single elevator lead to one of these, isolated to prevent danger while testing or preforming operations. Norizuka stepped out and faced the head of the Institute, Scott Bacula.
Scott smiled warmly through his short but thick beard of light, yet rich brown hair. It covered his chin and upper lip, reaching around the bottom of his jaw and up for his scalp, but didn't quite make it. His hair was of the same color and luster. He was a tall man, broad and muscular, but not in a very intimidating way. He looked more studious than powerful, dressed in a white doctor's labcoat, suit vest and tie underneath with plain slacks and shoes, "Hello Norizuka."
"Hello Scott." She replied in a bland voice. Honestly, she liked Scott. She thought he was nice, but she would remind herself what he does, he keeps people here and experiments on them against their will, for this she knew she could not like this man! Even so, he was charming and warm, so her disgust and good feelings towards him canceled out, creating a sort of apathy.
"Are you feeling well?" He asked kindly. He was standing in the center of the room, only a few items out in front of him. A deck of cards, a lead ball, some hair gel and a few other things she didn't quite recognize. One thing she did recognize though was the helmet. It looked like a biker helmet without the part of the mask you could look out. It was all black and had a few strange devices rigged to the back of it. She usually had to wear it whenever they did testing, it monitors her vitals and power output.
"Yes." She answered.
"Good. Then we can begin."

Unlike Zuka, Opal was taken from her room by two armed guards. Around her wrists, two manacles are put around her hands, twisted around her back. She moved down the hall, joined by a staccato sound that signaled her descent down the stairs. Soon, all windows and fluorescent lights were gone.

In a room with a few others, she was left back against a wall, told to wait her turn. She shared a look with two others and nodded. When she sat, the floor itself shook. Two nurses, both in face masks and gloves, inserted an IV into her arm. She'd spent years tugging it out the best she can, only to repeatedly find herself sedated. Now she just sat there, allowing the mixture of iron and glucose to pump into her veins.

Norizuka was one of the first to finish her session. She was sitting at one of the cafeteria tables where patients deemed 'stable' were allowed to eat and converse in a group. Only twice a day was this allowed, lunch and dinner. She picked at her food, her legs dangling far from the floor. Chili with some vegetables, along with vitamin supplement that they specifically gave to her every meal, as required by her physical state. She watched as more people filled the cafeteria, returning from their sessions.

Another cup smashed against the wall as Opal knocked it out of her way. As always, her bones cracked as she walked through the cafeteria line. Her back, bent nearly in half, straightened slowly, the noise drawing a few onlookers. She took the plate of food from the server and slammed it down on the table beside Zuka before crashing into her seat.

She didn't mean to be overly aggressive, but the weight began to be too much. Staring at her food, she idly rubbed her fingers over the needle mark from the IV, not wanting to scratch it open.

Norizuka kept her eyes on her food, not reacting to Opal's noisy entrance, "Welcome back. How was your session?" She asked, picking up her spoon and taking a bite of the Chili. It did taste like Chili, but it was bland, hardly excellent cuisine. What she would give for a pear...

"Peachy. Nothing like making me weigh a ton just to see if my bones can handle it. Newsflash, doctors, they can't!" She yelled the last part toward the doctors who monitored them at lunch. Picking up a fork almost proved to be too much for her, so when she went to spear the salad she was given - can't have her getting fat, can they? - the fork went straight through the table.

With a sigh of disgust, she tossed it from the table. "Hands again, it seems."

Zuka looked so puny next to Opal, who had a strong athletic build. She looked up at her taller companion, "Would you like me to help you?" She offered. She never liked seeing Opal like this, angry (Well, more angry than usual) and upset.

Opal turned her angry eyes to Zuka before relaxing almost instantly. "No. It's..." She motioned down to her food before picking up the lettuce with her hands. "It's just rabbit food. I can eat it with my hands. Salad dressing ruins it anyway." A tomato popped into her mouth with ease as she chewed on it.

Picking up a piece of carrot, she swallowed and laughed. "It really is rabbit food. All with vitamins to make me strong. And even more iron." She glanced over at Zuka. "How went your trials?"

"Same as usual. Me and Scott, stacking cards with my brain, building a castle with them. Chucked a bowling ball around." Norizuka told her modestly. She didn't think all that much of her abilities, but the fact that it was always Doctor Bacula who did her sessions with her always nagged her. What made her so important?

"Sounds like another fun time testing out your powers." Opal smiled, though inside she felt the dull ache of jealousy. What she wouldn't give to be able to sit with the Director and not go through her "medication" but instead train...

"I'm still considered to be too dangerous for trials. Another few weeks. As if five years hasn't been enough." She brushed back some of her red curls and scrunched her nose as she bit into a carrot, mocking the face of a rabbit.

((Alright.))

"I would not call it fun." Norizuka said, looking up at her. She had been at the Institute since her parents were killed, which makes nine years.
She laughed at Opal eating her carrot, resting her hands on the edgest of her cane, which she had lying across her lap.

Opal shrugged, picking through the leafy parts of her meal. She wouldn't give them the pleasure of eating the dressing - which she could only imagine what it had in it - or the broccoli. She knew she should avoid the tomatoes but they were far too good.

"So. what are they doing with you for the rest of the day?"

Zircon slithered on the ground through people's legs, being careful not to touch them. Some saw him and wondered what he was doing. Others knew him and just ignored him, knowing better than to question what the boy does. He snaked his way to Opal and Norizuka and reached an arm up to grab one of Opal's little salad tomatoes.

Norizuka watched him with a smile. Ryan usually annoyed people, but she found him amusing. She had known him since he arrived five years ago, she was fourteen and he was eight. He hasn't changed the slightest bit since the first day, with the exception of the abilities given to him by the Institute.

Opal rolled a tomato across her knuckles before handing it down to the boy. "There you go, Zircon. Don't eat it all in one bite!" She took a piece of broccoli and began to chomp on it. "Where's that annoying boy? The other blond? Don't you like pestering him?" She handed down another tomato.

From across the room, Pyrite raised his head and would glare over if he had any sight left. Instead, he left both hands around his hot cup of tea and frowned. "Leaving me alone. You deal with him now. He's a pain in the ass." He brought the tea to his lips, sipping it in silence. He didn't know what was in it, nor did he want to. For all he knew, it could be poison and he wouldn't be any luckier.

Zircon, despite the warning, stuffed the entire thing into his mouth, his each stretching to contain it. He got up and sat in between the two girls, "Mlfflp f    mnnl!" He informed them and then bit down hard on the tomato, which shot red juice across the table. He chewed happily.
Zuka caught all the juice before it hit the ground. An imaginary container held it and it floated over, falling onto her tray, "Why don't you come sit with us, Pyrite?" She offered, knowing he could hear her.

"Over there?" Pyrite said. "With that...?" He motioned toward Zircon, then sighed. "One moment."

The chair clattered behind him as he rose, the tea in hand, and he began to make his way over. Chairs and people move out of his way, afraid to incur his wrath.

Opal moved out of the way, pushing a chair out for him. "Stop being mean. You're not as scary as you think." She smiled over to Zircon and passed another tomato over. "Now, what are you doing today? Being a snake?"

The boy swallowed and took the other tomato, holding it up in the palm of his hand, "Don't be silly," He told her, "I have limbs don't I? Besides, pets aren't allowed here." He smashed his fist into the tomato, making it explode. Zuka was ready for this and had made a sort of force field around it, so the juice didn't splatter all over everyone.
"Be careful not to make a mess, Zircon." She told him. He laughed and dropped what was left of the food onto her tray, "How was your session today, Pyrite?"

"Hey!" Despite the reprimand, she laughed. "Don't do that, Zirc. You could get that in someone's eyes and bl--" Opal shut her mouth, sparing Pyrite a glance. "Sorry."

Ignoring the other two, he turned his head to Zuka. It was the only way to prove that he actually was paying attention. "Fine. There's not much I can do when I can't see. I can feel the tiny box they give me but if I can't figure out the wiring, what good am I?" He shook his head. "Yours?"

"Nothing special." She said, feeling another pang of sorrow for her friend. Well, at least she considered Pyrite a friend. Even with all her disabilities and problems she would take all of those and more to retain her sight. Being blind would be such a nightmare, she wonders how he can even handle it.

Ryan wriggled his sauce covered fingers in front of him and slapped his hand onto Opal's face, dragging it down, wiping the liquid and pieces of tomato on her.

Pyrite nodded once to her. "You know, I almost remember how the locks on the cells look. If they haven't changed them, maybe I'll spend the afternoon flicking them open and shut to freak the guards out." He took another sip of his tea. "Very least I can do to harrass them."

"Ugh! Zirc!" Opal grabbed a napkin and began to wipe at her face, trying to go "easy" despite her heavy hands. "Why would you do that? Wait. Don't answer that." She shook her head and smirked to Pyrite. "I like the way you think, Fool."

"Don't call me that."

"Zircon." Norizuka said quietly to get the boy's attention. He turn around, licking his fingers off. He gave an affirmative 'hmm?' that he was listening, "Would you mind fetching me some water?" She asked him. He nodded vigorously and jumped out of his seat, doing flips off his hands and feet onto the table behind them. Standing atop the table he ran down it to the water cooler. She watched him go, slip on someones tray and slid across the table and land hard on the ground.

Opal winced, putting her hand up in front of her eyes. "That kid is going to break something." She walked over to him, hands on her hips as she gazed down, bent at the waist. "What are you doing, Zirc?"

"And she calls me fool." He shook his head and tried to take another sip, but realized it was empty. Raising a brow, which causes the blindfold to go up, he put the cup down. "I think I have exercise tonight."

"You're not sure?" She asked. Zuka was sure the repetition would make anyone remember when they have appointments when they could keep track of what day of the week it is.

The child grabbed Opal's legs and pulled himself through them, sliding on his back. He brough in his knees to his chest and rolled backwards, his feet connecting with the ground and then he sprung up behind her, giving her a tight hug, "Command, this is Agent Bostic! We got it! Returning to base!" He said into his invisible head set. He began trudging Opal away, but due not only being bigger than him, the added weight of her heavy bones and body made her immovable. His feet just slid across the floor trying to take her in a direction, but going absolutely nowhere. This didn't stop him from trying of course. It was like he was on a treadmill.

Hunter Phoenix

Hunters mind was a little dulled, they had drugged him up on that stupid muscle relaxant so that he couldn't break out of his chains once again, he was always strapped up, The Institute had given him this strength and now they block it for their own safety. He could still talk and shout though.

"Hey Opal, Zirc, someone, come get me outta these chains please? Can anyone pick locks at all, I know one of you can, I wanna be able to walk around here"

He had been chained up for almost a month or so now, he was annoyed with The Institute, he was annoyed with the chains and he was especially annoyed that he had no one to talk too.

"Relax, Zirc, relax." She laughed, not even feeling his grip as she walked in the direction he tried to take her. "Where are you taking me now?" Unable to dodge people fast enough, a lot of those that crossed her path ended up on the ground. "No where dangerous, I hope."

Hearing Hunter, she paused. "You know we can't, Hunter. I can't pick locks, and Zirc here..."

Pyrite gave her a shrug. "They're unsure if I need more exercise. I'm dangerously thin, according to them. And if I exercise more, I may become dangerously thinner." He reached out for Opal's cup, finding it on the second try. "After all, they don't want to have to treat me like you."

Norizuka always found it odd they kept Hunter locked and chained in the cafeteria. Probably to set an example for behavior, "I could, but they'll just put you back in. If you want out you should just behave. It's not so bad doing what they tell you to." She said, wanting him to take her advice. It's not so hard to be obedient, is it? A lot less troublesome for everyone.
"What is that supposed to mean? Treat me like what?" She questioned, knowing full well what he meant and joking about it.

"Silence Criminal! You have violated the law! You will now pay your fine, or serve your time." He continued tugging her toward the water cooler.

Hunter sighed and nodded to himself in agreement

"This is true, looks like I will have to behave myself then, for the time being"

He stayed silent and unmoving, talking to himself in his head like he normally did, he also wanted a smoke, like he had every day since he had come here, but he couldn't have one, so it was the best way to give up really; being chained up.

Pyrite rolled his shoulders, his gesture akin to rolling his eyes, and smirked. "You know. Like I'll break if someone touches me." He held a hand an inch away from her, smiling. "If I come too close, I could break you."

Opal began to walk again, shaking her head. "You're never going to move me, kid. We've been through this. What do you want? Water?" She glanced back at Hunter for a moment, feeling that she'd be in the same position just a few months down the road...

"You'll be out soon," she said to him.

Pyrite brought his hand closer, fingers wiggling. "Then let's test this, huh?" Closer and closer, he stopped an inch away.

Far off, in the small court yard outside, in one of the dark corners. Jaiden sat, reading another book. He disliked all the noise in his room, the low vibrations, but it wasn't like he wanted to be here. It's been a long time since the last surgery and his hair had grown back, but rubbing the back of his head he always felt the scars. Turning the page of his book, he hears noises. "Children." He sighed to himself.

He enjoyed staring off into the distance, losing himself within his mind. Because of the stupid collar he had to wear around his neck, the portable wave length disruptor, he couldn't really use his powers unless it's pretty basic stuff. But then again, the collar does keep him from losing his mind. High up in a tree, his thoughts were broken by the sound of a chirping bird. "Oh to be free again... Just like you."

Jaqueline

With his palm close enough, Zuka pressed her forehead against it softly. It really would take much to crush her skull, just with one hand even, but she trusted Pyrite.

He jumped down and gave Opal a respectful bow. He took one of the paper cups and filled it with water, splashing the stream as it came down by flicking it. Soon the cup was full and he picked it up. Zircon gave the Water cooler a bow as well, and then slammed his head with full force into the large glass bottle. It shattered against his skull, water and glass flying in a small radius. Bits of glass were stuck into his face and he laughed, running down the aisles. A couple of security guards ran after him. The boy giggled and cackled like a maniac as they chased him, he quickly stopped to set the water in front of Norizuka before continuing his chase. They apprehended him and took him away as he babbled something or other about kittens with spikes.

Norizuka picked up the drink and took a sip, her forehead still in Pyrite's hand. Zircon did this sort of thing often, it got him dragged back to his room where they would put him in a straight jacket and lock him up, usually having to restrain him to feed him. The cuts would heal within a day most likely.  broken limbs took him about a week, maybe more.

Hunter watched the scene unfold in front of him

"That kid sure is one crazy S.O.B"

The muscle relaxant was wearing off a little, he could move his fingers now, but still couldn't move his hands or arms, another hour or so and the good doctors would be round to top him up and then he would be left alone again for another 6 hours before they came around to do the same thing again.

With his hand against her forehead, Pyrite sighed. "The boy is going to get himself hurt one of these days. I don't need sight to know that." He'd know it was Zircon breaking the water cooler just from years of knowing the kid. "Where's that guy? The older one with the books?"

Opal watched Zirc go, staring at the water that has flooded through her shoes. With a loud groan, she started toward the outside, hoping the sun would dry her off. Of course, outside was nothing more than a cell's worth of boxed in sunlight with a few trees. She found a spot in the light and stood there, trying to lift her legs up to dry them.

"Ah. Right. Ghost. That kid." He shrugged and kept his hand still as possible. "You know, if they see me doing this, they're going to think that I'm trying to kill you. And then I'll be thrown in the darkness. Not that it bothers me." He gave another shrug.

Hunter was experimenting with his hands, he could now move them once again, and still the doctors hadn't come to top him up with relaxant, maybe they wouldn't come, maybe he could break out of his chains soon and be able to walk around again.

"So what's this darkness like then? Sounds like solitary confinement to me, sounds rather boring, anyone got a smoke at all?"

Pyrite tilted his head toward Hunter, keeping a steady grip on Zuka. "I don't know what it's like. I can't see it very well, what with being blind and all." Scowling, he turned back to Zuka. "And of course I don't have a smoke. They don't even let us have candy in this place."

Hunter nodded in thought

"Yeah I guess your right, shame really, I used to like skittles personally, taste the rainbow and all that, I once nearly choked on one, made everyone laugh"

He then realised that he could move his arms, so bringing them down, he broke the chains holding him and his stood up and stretched, then fell to the floor when his legs gave way.

"I don't see why it would be such a foolish notion to be honest, we have a wide range of powers, we could use them to get out of here, instead of been kept prisoners by the psychopaths that call themselves doctors when all they do is treat us like animals and keep us locked away from the rest of the world"

I've seen hundreds of people try an escape," Norizuka said, her voice quiet and sad, "They do not enhance us like this and just expect everyone to play nice. They have precautions on every level to keep us in."

A janitor was busy cleaning out rooms that didn't have people in them. Either because they were doing sessions or were eating, rooms were empty often. He was in the Gem wing and entered Opal's room. He stuck a piece of paper with some writing on it underneath her pillow, obscuring what he was doing to the camera, making it look like he was making the bed. Catching sight of Ghost, Opal moved over, bending down to his level. "What're you doing, bookworm? Anything interesting?" She smiled to him, wagging a finger in his face. "Something worthwhile, I hope. Finding a way out?

"Yeah, and on top of that, who would want to do something like that? Escape here and try to survive in the real world?" Shaking his head, Pyrite sipped the last of Opal's drink. "Think about it. We're like captive animals. Released in the wild and..." He snapped his fingers. "Done."

Lynn ate alone in the cafeteria during lunch. She didn't approve of any of the insects in this Institution. In fact, she was thankful for this place. It changed her for the better. Whenever she got out of this hellhole, she would be unstoppable. Her parents would never be able to control her again. Lynn munched on some turkey pieces, taking bites of rice as well. The only problem was the constant headache from the information overload. The boy two tables away just farted. She could hear it and smell it. Her eyes closed and she wished should turn it down. She hated crowded areas like this.

"Some of us do not have lives to return to." Zuka said quietly, regretting saying it almost immediately. She changed the topic, "We are helping the world Hunter. But that does not change the fact that they are helping, even if the means do not quite justify the end."

Closing the book, Jaiden begins walking back towards the building. His stomach began to growl, and growl it did. He hated being with other people, but getting this hungry he'll do it. Sneaking back inside from the court yard, he walks towards the cafeteria. The noise already giving him a headache.

At being ignored, she blinked and watched Jaiden leave. "Hmph. Well, forget you too, then!" She leaned back against the courtyard wall and frowned. Maybe she was a bit too loud and obnoxious...

Stopping, before getting too far. It finally dawned on him that he wasn't alone. Turning back to see who it was, he peaked back out side. His mind just couldn't think right and what to do. Opal kicked at the ground, as well as she could with her heavy limbs, and watched the sparse bits of grass fly up, along with clumps of dirt. Gasping, she knelt, impressing two circles into the ground, as she tried to put the grass and dirt back. "Careless! Why don't you think, Opal? I swear..."

He watched her a little, too scared to go out, but yet still quite interested in what she's doing. His brain began to function, putting different combination together of how to repair the grass and soil. But before any form of result came to his mind, the necklace hummed again, cause him to lose his thoughts.

Lynn winced with the raised voices of the crowded cafeteria and leaned on the table, covering her ears. She kept her eyes closed and wished she could cover her nose. Most of these people smelled horrible. Did they have issues bathing? Just because they were always locked away didn't mean they didn't have B.O. And to Lynn, everyone's B.O. was ten times worse. Alone, Lynn loved her newfound powers, but around others, they kinda sucked. That's why the doctor's were trying to get her to learn how to tone down the senses.

After doing the best she can, she sat back on her feet and stared at the mess. When she stood, she saw her even larger mess and swore. "This sucks!" Yelling almost made her feel better. Another, wordless yell followed as she hit her hand into the wall. It cracked a bit before she relaxed, letting her shoulders drop. She needed to get out of there. She was starting to lose her mind.

Finding a bench, she tentatively sat down, hearing the creak of the metal and wood below her.

Starlequin

Trent sat in the kitchen, out of the way of the bustling cafeteria workers as he ate his sandwich and sipped his water. He kicked his feet up and munched quietly, his eyes darting this way and that as he studied each person in the kitchen. Ms. Rossa, the white-haired old bitch who ran the kitchens, walked to and fro between the stations, checking things over with the sharpness of a drill sergeant. She dug a spoon or fork into every dish, the slightest taste telling her whether each was prepared according to her explicit designs. Mr. Dell, the rather youngish fellow working on the meats station, trembled just a little as she reviewed his work and found it adequate. Mrs. Hampton stood passively over a tall, simmering stew pot, stirring a thick sludge with an even thicker stick.

Rossa's eyes fell on Trent and he gave her a quick, smart-ass wave and grinned over his sandwich. He had a feeling she knew what he was up to; no doubt she'd have to be one of the first to die, if the chance for escape ever rose. Trent sort of liked the rest of the kitchen staff; he chatted them up occasionally. They were mostly just working stiffs, scratching out a paycheck and probably sending it home to their families. He didn't fool himself, though. There was every possibility that that was just what they wanted him to think.

He finished his sandwich and gulped the last of his ice water, and pushed his dishes away. A tune came to mind and he began to whistle softly, making up a bluesy melody as he went along. One of the guards noticed and tensed, but Trent held up both hands in a universal 'no trouble' signal and the guard slowly relaxed. Trent took note of the guard's name and badge number; most of the guards were pretty careless, but now and then one would display evidence of a brain.

[Hm, observant little bastard, aren't we? What's your name, bucko? S-1...Verdon? Ah, Vernon...we'll be keeping tabs on you, sparky.] He thought to himself as he rose from the table. He was still a little hungry, and decided to invoke one of his little 'privileges', digging through the fridges and pulling out a small yogurt cup. It had cost him a lot of effort to earn the few freedoms he'd been given, but they were worth it. General free run of the kitchens during daylight hours, minimum security escorts, and of course his guitar. Of course, it pissed off Rossa to no end, having him in her kitchen at all hours; he felt her lethal gaze on his back as he rummaged in the fridge. A mischievous smile played over his face and he took two more yogurt cups, just to piss her off a little more. From the look in her eye, it seemed he succeeded.

He left the kitchen with his dairy treasures and passed the resident bookworm heading into the cafeteria. "Hey, Ghost. Think fast." He tossed a yogurt cup easily to the kid and walked on, chuckling. Hm, one left. Who else should benefit from his generosity today? He looked down at the two cups. One peach, one lime. He spotted that frail girl with the cane and the cape near the cafeteria entrance. He cupped a hand around his mouth and shouted for her attention before sending one of the yogurts sailing through the air toward her.

"Yo! Zukes! Special delivery, compliments of the 'Bitch in de kitchen'!"

Lynn winced again. The stupid joyful boy was shouting again. As if the ruckus in the cafeteria wasn't enough. Lynn's eyes noticed something sailing through the air. Yogurt. Yogurt was a special treat, rarely given out. So he filched it did he. Well, Lynn could respect that. However, she wanted that delicious peach flavor for herself. She pushed herself up and jumped into the air. It was almost as if she had disappeared and reappeared in the air, catching the yogurt cup in the air. It was in fact, because of her super speed. Many times she felt like a ninja doing things like that. The speed and the jumping were her favorite aspects of this Institution. Those she had down to each detail. Lynn grinned as she landed, yogurt in hand. She could already taste it on her tongue now. Oh how she would enjoy every bite. She hadn't had yogurt in weeks. The only thing she regretted was that it wasn't chocolate. Oh she would do anything for a chocolate bar right about now.

Feeling the yogurt smack him, Jaiden quickly vanished. The necklace began humming but he managed to out think it as he ran. See this is exactly the reason why he hates other people.

Jaqueline

Norizuka winced at being called 'Zukes' and his language. She was raised in a very prim and proper home, vulgar language made her uncomfortable. She also never used contractions, something that really didn't get through when her mother was teaching her English. She was fluent in both Japanese and English, but more so in Japanese.
She looked up to see the pudding fly through the air and then be caught by Lynn. She did nothing to stop this. Though it may have been a fruit pudding, her favorite, she was willing to let Lynn have it if she wanted it. This didn't stop some feelings of anger, but she quelled them quickly. Lynn could snap her like a twig just like anyone else in the place. Picking fights and arguing are not good activities for her.

Opal gazed up, not noticing anything but the spattering of yogurt on the ground. With a groan, she shook her head. "Trent..." Rising up, she started to make her way in. "What the hell?"

Hearing the man, he turned his head to the side before feeling the wind from Lynn's jump. He held a hand in front of Zuka, brow raised. He could hear Opal coming over, her heavy footfalls like thunder. The boy causing the trouble, such an annoyance, always set him on edge.

Lynn landed on the head of some random kid who yelled at her before she hopped off and onto the table. She ignored his protests and gazed at the yogurt with a smile. Her eyes slide  to Zuka. The girl definitely had potential. The potential to stop Lynn in her tracks. And Lynn didn't like the idea of someone stronger than her one bit. Her eyes narrowed at the girl in suspicion. Zuka, however had made no protest, or no attempt to stop Lynn. Despite her hating everyone, Lynn didn't approve of confrontation and would avoid it as much as possible. She was someone that did things in the shadows, where no one noticed until it was too late. Regardless, Lynn had the yogurt now, and didn't believe Zuka to be powerful enough to stop her. Not yet anyway. With a satisfied smile, Lynn peeled back the top. The girl inhaled deeply, taking in the succulent peach scent. It had been forever since Lynn smelled fresh peaches. In the back of her mind, she wondered what they would smell like now, with her exaggerated senses. Somehow, she doubted she would know any time soon. Lynn brought the top to her lips and licked the yogurt off. It tasted wonderful. Like real fruit. Lynn smiled again in satisfaction. She needed to get a spoon.

Starlequin

Trent turned and began to walk away as the yogurt left his hand, but stopped and glanced back over his shoulder at the sound of commotion. He watched just in time as Lynn appeared from seemingly out of nowhere and snatched Zuka's gift right out of the air. His eyes narrowed a bit as she raced back to her own seat, and flickered from her to Zuka who stood passively watching the sneaky bitch take off with her treat. Trent was aware of what both girls were capable of, and he knew that if the frail girl had so desired, she could have kept her yogurt. With the power she wielded, plus the friends that stuck around her, heavens knew she could put up a fight if she struck a mind to. And yet...

Trent simply shook his head and turned back to Lynn. Some people, he thought, just didn't have any fire in them. And some did. If Zuka wasn't going to put up a fight, he certainly wouldn't do it for her; he'd worked too hard to earn the small freedoms that could lead to the real thing, to lose any of them for disruptive behavior. She might have been frail, but that was no excuse for being a doormat. He figured she probably had her reasons, and left it at that.

He turned again and was about to leave when he noticed the other yogurt cup lying splattered on the ground. [Aw, dammit, Ghost. All you had to do was catch the damn thing; I didn't even throw it that hard!] Trent shook his head and walked on, ignoring Opal's clunking footsteps back toward the cafeteria. His thoughts turned to Lynn again. She was one of the few left in the Institute, either captive or captor, that he had yet to get a reading on. And that bothered him. The others were pretty simple. Zuka was simply resigned to her fate; Opal was anything but, but unlikely ever to make an escape on her own due to the steel they kept feeding her; Pyrite was sort of a bitter jerk, but given his situation one couldn't blame him much; Zircon was simply off-the-wall nuckin' futs; Ghost was a bigger nerd than anything else, a wallflower if Trent had ever seen one; Hunter just wanted out, but didn't seem to have the brains or the patience to wait for his chance; even Bacula and the other doctors were easy enough to figure out. But Lynn... Trent didn't know if she wanted to stay, to escape, to self-destruct, or what. There was a mean streak in that one, like a rattler that just wanted to bite whatever it could find to see how good it could kill.

He didn't like Lynn much, but he damn sure respected her. The same way a dog catcher respected a rabid hound.

The loudspeakers turned on and ordered all patients to be back in their rooms in  ten minutes.
Norizuka lifted herself from her chair using her cane to help push up. She felt a wave of fatigue wash down her body, sapping her sight for a moment. This happened at lunch pretty often, she was used to it. She slowly began walking back to her room. She was tired again and wanted some more rest. She always felt like an old lady, needing a cane and naps all the time. It was self demeaning, but she had come to accept it.

She snatched a spoon from someone nearby, straight from their hands. The poor boy didn't even notice until his fingers hit the custard he was aiming for. The boy yelped and snatched his hand back, anxiously looking around for his lost spoon. But Lynn was already gone, nowhere to be seen. She wanted some fresh air and started heading for the courtyard with her prize. With the first bite, her taste buds rejoiced from the deliciously melting taste of peaches in her mouth. Lynn closed her eyes and sought to concentrate on the taste. Unfortunately, unlike her other senses, taste hadn't been amplified, but for the moment it felt like it. It tasted heavenly.

The girl passed Diamond on her way out. His code name had always made her giggle. Every time she saw him, she thought of the various jewelry commercials she used to see on TV. What a girly name for a man. At least hers reflected her in some way. Ivory. Valuable, yet deadly, like an elephant's tusk. Taking a moment to slow down enough for him to see her, she glanced at him as she stepped by. For him, it was like seeing her blink in and out of space in a matter of seconds. She smiled heartily at him, holding up the yogurt cup in a toast. "Thanks for the treat." It wasn't a real thank you by all means, more like a mocking one as she disappeared from his sight again. She knew the guy didn't like her, no one really did, but Lynn could care less. Life, especially this life, wasn't about lowering yourself to other people's levels just to make them feel good and stick around you. Life was about simple survival by any means necessary. Especially this life, here in the Institute. Lynn had seen, on many occasions, others being punished because they had stuck for their friends, getting themselves in trouble in the process. Foolish. No one was worth being beaten, starved, locked away, or anything else they could think of. Lynn was well aware of the various punishments this place could dish out. She had learned the hard way to keep her head and eyes down.

There were a few people in her corner of the courtyard, but by showing up behind them, she chased them off. Once again, not many liked her, some even feared her for her cold personality. And again, she could care less. Lynn perched in the corner on a bench, enjoying her yogurt, relishing every bite. She wanted to make it last and would eat it extremely slowly, enjoying every last bit of it.

Before he could offer Zuka any help, two guards were at his sides, assisting Pyrite up toward his room. With a groan he stood, hearing that yes, he did have exercise later. Vigorous exercise. Touching his stomach, he wondered just how much longer he'd last.

Opal fell into step beside Zuka. "I'm starting to understand why Ghost eats outside. Who'd want to deal with that insanity?" Getting used to the weight, she tried to hold herself a bit straighter with a sigh. "How was the rest of lunch?"

The pain from the necklace he wore, felt like millions of jackhammers were trying to burrow deep inside of his brain. "Get back to your room." That was the only thought which crossed his mind. Never had he felt that pain before, coupled with the fact he was using his powers already to stay invisible. Reappearing to the normal world, he was feeling it, the insanity that he feared, was creeping back upon him. The necklace was there to protect him, but it seemed to be more keeping him under control. Screaming loudly, he fell to the ground, hands on his head trying to rip the necklace off from around him. But just like many times before, it stayed on strong. He kept tugging it and pulling on it. The harder he tugged the more whiplash he was giving himself, but it had to come off, NOW! The pain was getting unbearable, the world around him was fuzzing out, as warm red liquid came from his mouth and nose, when finally everything went silent, except for a small crunching sound. His mind was clear, the vibrations had stopped. The necklace had stopped and no sooner had it quit than his vision cleared up. He found himself on the floor, his nose was bleeding from falling, as he coughed up blood. For once in a long time, he had peace in his mind, peace and quiet. The necklace itself didn't come off, but as he was running his fingers around it, he felt a small broken piece. Maybe they wont know, he thought to himself.

Trying to get himself off the floor, was a very daunting task. His knees were shaking uncontrollably, as he held onto the railing attached to the wall. Now to find his way back to his bed.

Jaqueline

"Fine." Norizuka answered, continuing her walk. Guards lined the halls on the way to the rooms as opposed to everyone having an escort or two. She split up from Opal at their rooms which were next to eachother and entered her. The guard shut it behind her and she stood in her room feeling small and alone. Get a grip! She told herself, shaking her head and lying down on her bed, staring up at the ceiling.

He held his hands up and walked back to the cell he hadn't seen in a long time, since he had spent so long chained up, he laid down on his cold bed and sighed.

Pyrite paused, sensing someone on the ground in front of him. By the sounds, someone having difficulty rising. He held out a hand, inches from whoever it was, and sighed after a moment. The familiar beat of technology came from his neck. "Ghost, get the hell out of the way. People are going to trip over you."

Opal went back into her room, taking a seat on her bed. As she leaned back, trying to get both legs to cooperate and join the rest of her body on the comforting mattress, she heard a crunch. Momentarily, she felt her breath leave her. Was it a bone? Her spine? She didn't feel any pain but who knew if she would with all the junk they'd pumped inside of her. Maybe her bones were finally giving away and becoming just metal? Oh god, she thought, repeating the phrase to herself.

Another crunch as she moved. She used her hand, swiping under the pillow before pulling out a sheet of paper. Relief flooded in, hot and quick. She read it quickly. "What...? Upside down?"

Lynn had finished her yogurt in peace, letting the outside noises and scents wash over her. She much preferred natural senses than unnatural, man-made ones. If she could, she'd become a hermit, way up in the mountains. And only when she needed something would she go to humanity and take it from them, no one being the wiser. Lynn sighed as she got up from the bench, tossing the empty cup and spoon onto the ground. She didn't bother putting them where they belonged, knowing that someone would pick them up. After all, it was cell time again. Lynn both loved and hated her cell. Loved it because it was mostly quiet and scentless, with some exceptions of course. hated it because she felt too confined. She couldn't run, couldn't jump. There wasn't much to do in it. Lynn sighed and slowly headed towards her prison. It was one of the few times she walked slowly. A guard prodded her in the back and urged her to move faster. She nearly smacked him upside the head, but restrained herself. Attacking the stupid guards would get her no where. Instead, she growled and disappeared from his sight to run to her cell. The guard panicked and started looking around for her, only to find  another, more veteran guard laugh at him and explain that she went to her cell. Lynn sighed as she entered, hearing the click of the door behind her. Just another day after all.
