I pity the foo' who doesn't know what Fallout is.

The Wasteland is a scary place: the Vault Dweller knew, the Lone Wander Knew, EVERYONE KNOWS.
You would never expect to survive it alone of course, right? Right.
What I'm proposing is "sandboxish" group roleplay that takes place in the Fallout universe with OCs.
By this, I mean that you go with the flow, only stopping to plot small events.
The overarching theme would be survival, and what happens when people are in a hopeless world full of uncertainty? Crime and naughty business. ^_^
I really like Vegas, so I would much prefer if it takes place in that general area.

SO if you are interested in RPing this scenario with a lovely banana like myself, post here!

I could get on board this. Would it be set before/after the games?
If the idea is survival I assume characters aren't allowed start off running a New Vegas Casino, cause those guys tended to have the resources to be comfortable already.

Pre-Vegas. :P So everything is the way it is when you start out a fresh game of NV.

And no, EVERYTHING, weapons, food, shelter, will have to be earned.

I'm not too sure on that but basically, not too big. I like small groups.

I suppose if you started off with a single, certain community and let things branch out from there? Like maybe the first few members all need to be residents of Goodsprings? Would keep people together at the start. No good having every location populated by a single person.

I'm glad you were amused~ No point in it being there otherwise, even though it's true.

On that subject, it would be interesting if, say Goodsprings got attacked by bandits or a larger arm of the Legion, for example. But this time, they don't fend them off with a strange bit of help from the courier, and everyone is forced to evacuate the town and wander the Mojave.

It would allow players to be somewhat in a group, but not necessarily entirely tight-knit. I find that stories where you have a bunch of individuals not really doing anything cohesive tends to fall apart somewhat faster than group ones.

Sounds Like a plan.  Or maybe some small community that is raided and ruined, leaving the players as survivors that somehow escape (hiding, away from the settlement at the time of the raid, one of the few still standing after driving off the raiders, etc...)

Yes Goodsprings seems like it would be a good starting place, small and kind of out of the way.

So what about factions of you don't mind me asking.

Meaning could your PC's be apart of factions?

I'd say bandits. Legion members in Goodsprings actually causes me to get goosebumps.

On that note, I think I would like to include the basic improvable(through special circumstances) SPECIAL system. That combined with three "tagged" skills would make for an interesting aspect.

Well yes. I mean since most won't see eye to eye on things so I figured that each would either be their own person or join some faction like you can in the game.

But of course. You would however have to spin it so that you have a suitable reason to be in Goodsprings(faction wise), though.

Well a simple they were exiled would be a simple play on it, but it would have to be a better reason then that I figure.

Make it as simple or complex as you like. That's part of the sandbox part ;3

How would that work?  The improvements I mean?

And speaking of skills - how would you handle things like finding books and other skill-ups?  (mostly books I guess in NV)

The improvements would happen via random events like in the games: implants, special items, ect. This would be up to you, as long as you don't superpower you character this way :P

Since keeping up with skills would be a major nuisance, I was thinking of just having them tagged, without any real value other than to show your characters strengths. Maybe the books could be used to change them like this: you have science, lock picking, and guns tagged. You find a book for medicine, you would either gain medicine AND keep the others, or gain medicine and loose another, or nothing happens. I think I might be getting a little confusing. Anyway, this could be done through rolls. OR you guys can suggest something.

Re Z L

War, war never changes.  The faces, names, and weapons have changed from the dawn of time to the modern era.  When the world made the ultimate weapon, they marveled at their brilliance without thought of consequence.  When the doors guarding the secret of the atom had been unlocked there was no way to hide it away again.  The proverbial Pandora's Box had been opened and its terrible contents unleashed upon the world.  To abate the worries of the population one company created underground structures known as Vaults.  Space in a Vault came at a premium.  In the case of a nuclear war they would shield those within so that at least a fraction of the human race would survive a Nuclear War.  They thought it was the last World War, when the power of suns rained down upon the world scorching the land and leaving it a radioactive wasteland.  But war never changes, and it never dies.  Now a new war begins, one for survival.  The weapons and purposes and names may change, but war never changes.

Re Z L

Well good!  ;D  <3

Here's some other options for stat-ing out characters, unless you want to keep it strictly freeform (though you can probably mix a couple of these things around)  http://falloutpnp.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Other possible starts:

A recently opened Vault in the New Vegas area, the group is a team from the Vault sent out to explore
A small recently created band of bandits, either good or bad (maybe think Firefly)
A squad of New California Republic recruits (gives the group a little more structure, but makes the game a little less sand-boxy)

Ohhhh PNP link looks promising.

I think I like the goodsprings setting though, gives an element of randomness. ;3
