I play Hunter, have since I switched over to horde, my first Night Elf was a priest and a friend played a hunter and I was like "Awesome!" The funniest thing that ever happened to me and Jin while going out messing around was going to get The Kurken on Azuremist Isle. We came up to Dark Shore pre-cata and just RAN to the boat. Jin's character was like 40 something and I was I think 60. We stood up at the top just before the npcs could see you and planned it out. We thought we'd get slaughters. We ran through and down the pier towards the boat followed by every npc that we could catch laughing on vent about how Jin's character was going to die. Nothing happened. We got on the boat with all these level 80 npcs going "Oh god they're going to gank us... don't move so they don't see us." It was great times indeed. We did eventually get the core hound and I had my first pokemon!

lol I thought I was done for when I got knocked off of my mount... Fun times!

TheGlyphstone

I've got one good counter-gank story, from mid-LK era...I was on my Druid alt farming elemental doohickies in Wintergrasp, keeping under kittystealth whenever possible to avoid getting jumped At the big frozen lake, there were a few people trying to fish, and one Hordie running around blocking fishing bobbers in between attacking the fishers, and generally being a nuisance. He wasn't in Pvp gear, but the fishermen were in worse gear. For some reason, he never even looked down until I came up from below and went all Jaws on his face in my budget-grade T8. Only took two iterations before he gave up, and we went back to farming/fishing in peace.

LunarSage

Right on, Glyph!

Yeah, I'm talking about the corpse campers and other folks who just go out of their way to make other players miserable.

I'm SOOOOOOOO glad they made every Flight Master a level 85 elite.  The respawn time on those guys is like 10 minutes.

I'm very under the impression that if you leave me be, I'll leave you be. Unless we're out in battle grounds where stomping mudholes is allowed I just do my dailies, quest strings and auction house stuff. Though I do love tossing the /rasp out there to unmarked players. :) Though if they happen to flag and mess with me, you're damn right I'm going to defend myself. I do happen to dislike npc slaying because well that's stupid you get nothing out of it. If I want to kill someone on the Alliance I want points to up my gear later. I also stopped playing on PVP servers because I hated the fact that it auto marked you and the other faction could gank you at any time.

On a side note of goodness, I'm just curious as to what classes in the game people play? I love actually hearing about the fun times people have had Horde or Alliance. :)

Ok so when someone tries to change the subject a little and get us talking about fun stuff that we can all enjoy and here we go right back to Horde bashing.  Way to go right back to the age old fight guys.

Not that it matters now, with lvl85 players.

Of course it matters.  A level 85 can't go by and one-shot a FM the way they used to be able to do.

Oneshot, no, but they still die really quick if someone feels like killing them.

LunarSage

Solo?  I don't know about you, but I sure can't easily and quickly kill a level 85 elite by myself.  Not to mention with FMs you're actually fighting a level 85 elite and two level 85 griffons.

...I'd forgotten about the griffons/wyverns entirely.

Aiden

I have played warriors, shamans and rogues since this game's introduction.

I always loved being a warrior and tanking but after Cata, I just lost my knack for it. I have been tanking on and off since Vanilla and in wrath when druids and DK came into the mix I started losing intrest in him.

I have two lvl 85 tank warriors, both retired now (Human and Tuaren). Another 70 orc warrior on a RP server, long retired.

Rogues-
I have two lvl 85 rogues, orc and worgen. My orc is my favorite and he is the one I am doing my achievement hunting on, halfway to the 100 mount achievement and shooting for loremaster once in a while.

Shamans-
Again I have two - Squidface and Orc- the squid face has some raiding under his belt but I retired him, the orc is 83 and on the sidelines since I have been mostly playing my rogue.

Ohh I forgot about a lvl 73 rogue, another worgen I had on another server (Thunderhorn) which is also now slumbering peacefully.

Not bad considering I don't raid or do heroic dungeons (and rarely do normal dungeons).

Depends on your class, really. Rogues probably don't have too hard a time of it. CS the FM out of stealth, pop evasion, mutilate, KS, spam mutilate until dead, vanish. You need some gear to do it quickly, but it's not particularly difficult unless someone's around to get in the way.

They are meatier than they were at 70 by a long shot though. I remember when I spent my one week as the ghost of Stormwind being a goof that I once killed the FM there in under ten seconds, a timer I could check due to having sapped a player right next to him. That was less about griefing and more about having fun being chased - I wouldn't camp any particular NPC in the city, I'd run around the whole place picking them off here and there and fleeing from the folks who'd try to hunt me down for it. Felt very rogue-like. ^.^ Was also fair practice for figuring out how to hunt Alliance rogues when they'd do the same thing in Org/Undercity (oh god, Undercity was PLAGUED with rogue invaders for a few months during BC - all those tunnels and waterways and arches to hide in/wall-walk onto).

Character timeline:
Although my first character was a Nelf hunter, I gave up on her at about level 18 (so boring). From BC to LK my main was an undead warlock RP'd as emotionless and logical, not emotionless as in sociopathic psycho, more like a plague-bearing Vulcan. There was a brief period in which she sided with the Lich King not because she was evil or under his sway, but because she accepted the rationale of his argument. It didn't take too long for her to examine the flaws in it and turn away from the Scourge's interests again.

While Celenex gradually became more a raiding powerhouse (0/21/40 lololol) I made a couple of alts to try out different things and enjoy some downtime, as raiding is just such a source of stress and boredom. This was the period in which Gravo Blackhammer, formerly of the Twilight's Hammer clan before they went all batshit-crazy post-godsmack and became the Twilight Cult, and Syrazad, a high elf from an alternate timeline in which there were no Blood Elves because they refused to go against the Alliance and rebuffed the naga's help, and were subsequently wiped out. As you might imagine, she had little love for just about anyone in either faction as a result. Gravo was more or less just my blacksmithing bitch and Syrazad I enjoyed purely for the satisfaction of being sneakysneaky. I also made a Nelf druid but could never find any worthwhile RP Alliance-side on the Shadow Council server (there was little enough to be found Horde-side either, but at least that little bit had some substance now and then; A-side's was all about tavern parties and angsty romance and hanging around the moonwell chatting about nonsense, got dull :| ).

LK hit and I just didn't enjoy the warlock anymore. The major overhaul to affliction made it much less fun for leveling (I still don't know why they felt a need to remove Siphon Life as a spell - that was the greatest farming tool warlocks had!) and of course the goofy 0/21/40 boom-boom build was dismantled, and I didn't feel like essentially re-learning the class. Besides, DK's were out! So I finally got to make a Shjade-like character due to the option for a black-ish skin tone, hooray. Spent LK tanking with Shjade, a little light raiding, burned out again just before the Icecrown Citadel patch came out, took a break.

In the week before Cata's release, when they'd already released the patch to make all the classes Cata-style, I came back and decided to basically start over by leveling up my RP joke-character Ultio, the Bunny Paladin, who I'd made for comedy and ERP sometime during the LK expansion, by leveling her as Ret and refusing to wear any helm that didn't give her bunny-ears. This meant wearing the statless easter bunny ear hat until about 35 or so, then wearing that quest helm from 1k Needles that looks like it has armored bunny ears (the profile page is Oops, sadly, but you can see the helm in the mini-profile picture by her name). Ret, as it turns out, is hilariously easy to level up, at least with the Cata talents. I chewed through 10-80 in about 12 days and plowed into the Cata content at about the same rate. Once she was 85 I started doing the same thing with my Shjade DK, but the class felt extremely watered-down from how I remembered it (particularly the self-healing on death strike), so I tried the rogue next and holy hell was assassination fun since they removed the requirement to be behind enemies to use mutilate. Good lord. Burned through 80-85 with Syrazad and used her as my main dungeon-runner for the two months or so I stayed active.

Eventually became clear the game's endgame content was as boring and repetitive as ever, and it always would be at the end of every expansion, so I quit permanently in March/April, sold my stuff, dropped the gold in the guild bank, and washed my hands of it.

So...yeah, over the course of my time in the game I played just about every aspect of it: mostly dps, a good amount of tanking, very little healing (druid), but at least a little of everything and on both sides of the faction line. I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of how the factions' playerbases compared - though only on my server, of course. Horde RP and players just suited me better on ShC. *shrugs* Didn't make A-side evil or douchier or anything. They did seem to have a greater population of jerks and immaturity, but they also had the larger population so just on a quantity basis that's bound to happen. Ratio-wise it probably wasn't so different.

I understand that Horde vs. Alliance is going to bring about some passionate responses but let's not take it to the personal level, okay guys? :)

Haloriel

I like both, personally.  There are things that are cool about Alliance side(which is where I mostly play nowadays), and same with Horde side -- though admittedly I usually played Blood Elves there.  I'm interested how far the Forsaken will be allowed to pretty much go nuts with plague, or so it does seem to me.  Neat to see some roleplayers in the thread. :)  I have a mage, a couple paladins, and way too many priests.  I guess that's what I get for wanting to be every spec before dual specialisations came about. :D

Blizzard is PISSED that was leaked, I feel sorry for the dumbass who is responsible for that leak.

I am happy as hell that the pandaren's will finally be appearing in the game!

Woof.. someone is BEYOND fired.. they're going to own the dudes grandkid's college trust fund.

I'm glad..odds are the Pandaren will be another NPC race though

Aiden

I am happy to have them in the game, I know they started off as a joke but it will be sweet to see pandaria finally.

On a lighter note.

TheGlyphstone

It's entirely possible they're registered it as an expansion for Warcraft 4 or something, or just to keep anyone else from taking it. If they ever do appear in WoW, it will unquestionably be as a noncombatant NPC race, for the whole China problem. WoTLK took forever to get released in China because of the cultural taboo against skeletons, and the national obsession with pandas is even stronger than that.

Callie Del Noire

It's not unexpected, I mean look at what the folks who made City of Heroes had to do with the Fifth Column. They had to remove ALL Nazi associations to let the game be released in German (where it's illegal apparently)

I say that the Panderan should be let in but hey.. I'm not terribly PC. It's one thing to be considerate of others, it's another to totally avoid anything potentially confrontational.

Anyalyss

As for the original thread question, it's easy, the horde has Blood Elves! *giggles*

I couldn't resist, they're my favourite :-)

Besides, ever since Dungeon Keeper, "It's Good to be Bad" so, there you go, main reason to hate the goody Alliance :P
