Whats something that just drives you nuts in a game?

Like In ESO it doesn't matter whats class you are everyone can lock pick and craft at the same level.

On the subject of Elder Scrolls ... quite a bit in Skyrim, actually, but at the moment the lack of a dual cast/attack button and the way the most irritating npcs always seem to be the ones you can't kill stand out.

On MMOs in general, the community. I love how expansive the worlds can be but there are usually just too many toxic elements in my experience, and often not enough reasonably competent players who aren't toxic to actually play through the way the game was intended.

Mass Effect 2 forcing my Sole Survivor Shepard to work with the Illusive Man the whole game, then just walk away for six months to let him screw everyone over later. Also the way it pretty much gutted the RPG elements from the series and dumbed down the powers and equipment customization.

Edit: Also, two words: Thermal Clips.

Classic Mario, I think it was one of the first ones.. The one where they were blocks, old Nintendo school one. One of the final levels were impossible to cross unless you were 'large' otherwise you would die from attempting the jump. I made a picture of the jump proportions a long time ago as well as the stage and lava, green is Luigi and the red is Mario.

Mario is Rig

And all seriousness, that is the jump equations. I only crossed it once, but that was with Mario in his 'large' state and after dying I came to find being small isn't going to cut it and you couldn't get a big powerup around that stage prior to the jump, since it started just there.

You have just beaten a boss that was nearly impossible to beat and the game freezes up before you can save.

I swear, I thought I was gonna destroy something,

In Dragon Age Origins,

I decided to spare Loghain and Alistair bailed on me. With all his amazing equipment.
I felt like killing the bastard!

Also, any boss fight when I've almost killed the thing and I die. And then I have to start the fight all over again (if I'm lucky and saved right before it). Rage inducing!

So I make a A&A thread but do I put it here?  No.  Of course not.

This design choice in control schemes for 3PS games baffles me:

Design Team Member A: "Hey! Lets map all the important stuff in 3rd person shooters to a single button!"
DTM B: "Yeah, we can map "Open/Close, Pick Up, Interact, Take Cover and Revive Teamate" all to the A button! What could possibly go wrong?!"
BTM C: "BRILLIANT!"

Unskippable tutorial sections. *Mashes random buttons in extreme frustration* ''PLEASE LET ME SKIP!'' *Cries in a corner*

Kuruwa

Loading times, anything unskippable (tutorials, cutscenes, anything that the developers force the players to sit through even if they don't want to), elements placed in the game simply to make it more time-consuming, or to stretch it out, quests or missions where you just have to do the same stuff over and over, fetch 100 of this item, go get 50 of that... It drives me nuts!

Plot holes.

I detest plot holes.

Gameplay issues I can accept with a resigned grim and some black humour. Plot holes bring out the rage monster in me.

This, pretty much. I was trudging my way through Shadowrun Returns at a good pace up until the story told me I did something that I know I didn't do - that I explicitly avoided doing, in fact - which pretty much killed my interest in finishing the story.

I haven't played this game, but my boyfriend has. In one of the RE games, Leon has to escort some chick to safety. She always kept on either dying or getting Leon killed. I could feel his pain.

When AI scales with you in strength in a lazy way. An example of this is from a game I love but wish it would be done smarter:

In Samurai Warriors 2: Empires (or any Empires game I've played by KOEI, for that matter) let's say you invade a region and take it. Then your officers level to from 1 to about 4. Which is great until you discover that enemy officers suddenly jump up to your level on the next turn. Even if they did nothing at all.

I am unsure on that in the latest Samurai Empires.. 6 or 5 I think? Think it may be 6, but whichever the recent one is, the enemies seemed to scale different or level on their own. I went in one place and got RAPED by a high level General. And that was on a default 'normal' setting. This too, mind you, was a 1x1 fight, as you know some generals like to team up on you. Think it may of been Lian Bo or whatever his name is, but damn he was beast.

Edit: It may be up to Empires 7, I dunno, to lazeh to hook PS3 up to check. ;/

Dynasty Warriors 6, I think did that differently. But SW2:E and DW5:E did it in the way I mentioned, which irks me. Makes it predictable and a bit unfair to the player actually doing stuff on the map.

I am curious on how DW7:E holds up, alas I have no PS3 yet.   ???

Drake Valentine

Yea, well the games kind of get repetitive after awhile as well. >.< 7 was interesting, you could summon a mount you bought and you could have up to two different weapons equipped/switch through them. Also in customizing your character you can select their special moves from any move, not just the move of the weapon. Of course, I try to stay around similar weapon specials since they will just pull out some random weapon to do the special. DWE:7 also had a lot of scenes going on with your character and there are different endings depending on your fame level.

Also if you are 'evil' Emperor, your generals will leave you left and right unless they are 'evil.' But again, lot of repetitiveness in that game series, which I got bored with it after two-three playthroughs.

I remember at least one game where the enemies leveled based on your 'main' protagonist.  You collected other party members throughout the game, but if you basically kept this one guy in the background and let your 'sidekicks' do all the work and all the leveling, then the enemies would stay at a fairly low level.

Being invaded and loses. That sucks.

On that note any pvp element that intrudes upon the main game unless pvp is the primary point of the game.

Or a random super boss that felt like it was added in at the last minute.

Also... tedious boss battles that take forever. It's not challenging, it's flipping boring. An example of this is Darth Vader in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. I couldn't ever picture Vader running away from much, either. Not even a ridiculous Starkiller clone.

Euron Greyjoy

Not being able to stop the snowball effect. Key example is when I was playing Rome Total War as the Britons, Spain managed to conquer all of Gaul (France) and Germania (Germany). Before Spain became a super power, I was having some success in Germany conquering mostly the northern cities with ports. However, my faction leader who happened to be also my best general, didn't have any children to become the future heir. I had forgotten you need more settlements, in order to get more family members. With Spain slowly creeping into Germania and a weak family member becoming faction leader, I was forced to withdraw from Germania. Even when I had invaded Spain with three armies and took half of Iberia, they were too strong and able to take back their lost settlements. Don't get me wrong, I love a challenge and the idea of being able to lose. However, I should at least be able to claim victory from the jaws of defeat. If I would of continued the game Spain would of conquered all of Italy and won, having conquered Rome.

Did that in HALO Reach once just after I drove off the side of the map. Loaded, fell off, loaded, fell off. Was quite the laugh to watch.

for me it was mostly CoD, a grenade often ended up besides me when checkpoints were being made... lol

Poor character balance...

It's annoying when one character is noticeably weaker than others. To the point where you wonder what the developing team was thinking.
