Between the time
when the oceans drank Atlantis,
and the rise of the sons of Aryas,
there was an age undreamed of.
And onto this age,
new Gods and Goddesses arose
champions for a world that needed them.
It is I, the chronicler,
who alone can tell thee of this saga.
Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!

So, this game has been going for about a year now, and is coming to the end of the first scenario. We've lost some of the band along the way, so are opening up a couple of spots for new folks to join us.

if you want to see what has gone before.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

I'm interested, I've only been able to play Scion proper once before but I've loved the game ever since. I'm looking through the game and ooc now.
The blues is losing someone you love and not having enough money to immerse yourself in drink.

Scion is a lot of fun, and one of my favourite games :)

I'm also interested, if there are still open slots.

I wish you well and hope you have many players.

Interested. What are we looking at, in terms of house-rules, if any?

Scion is a mixture of urban fantasy and superhero. I think that might be the best way to describe it. All the old legends, all the stories, the folklore, the myths .. they're all true. Millenia ago the Gods overthrew the Titans and locked them away. In time, the monsters of myth and legend, the children of the Titans died off, slain by heroes, the children of the Gods and Goddesses.

About 50 years ago, the Titans broke out of their prison, and there's been a war going on just beyond the corner of your eye ever since. You are a Scion, child of one mortal and one divine parent, and the latest recruit in that shadow war. In time you may rise from Hero to Demigod and to the level of God yourself, joining the Pantheon of your parent, or perhaps forming one of your own.

I've added the house rules to the first post in the game OOC thread.

I'm always willing to listen to suggestions for others though.

Nature: Judge: Judges believe in rules and the power of law, so much so that they can't stand idly by and do nothing when someone crosses the line. Whether it's something as serious as theft or as minor as vandalism or acting out in public, the Judge won't hesitate to call people on their behavior and take steps to mete out justice. A Judge's response is always proportional to the crime-rules are rules, after all-and she works within the bounds of the law whenever possible. When calling the cops isn't possible, however, she isn't afraid to take matters into her own hands.

Judges are the bonds that hold society together. They protect the weak and the innocent and say the things that many people are afraid to say. Yet a danger lies in the Judge's letting her authority go to her head. A very fine line separates protectors from tyrants.

KNACKS
Epic Charisma 1 - Charmer: With the sheer, raw charm this Knack represents, the Scion can smother an upwelling of panic, suspicion or utter hatred directed at her for one scene. The player need only spend a point of Legend. One scene is usually long enough to convince a person that it would be in his best interest to help the character, but it’s up to the Scion (and the player’s roleplaying) to actually say the right words. During the scene in which this Knack is in effect, the suppressed emotion doesn’t go away. It merely remains beneath the surface. If the Scion can’t set the person’s mind at ease by scene’s end, the suppressed emotion returns in full force the next time the Scion leaves the affected person’s presence.
Epic Charisma 1 - Engender Love: Prerequisite Knack: Charmer (Scion: Hero, p. 130) Being able to charm someone is always helpful, but it doesn’t always make getting what you want from that person easy. A charmed person can still think clearly, question one’s motives and turn someone down if something about what she’s saying doesn’t feel quite right. Not so the person affected by this Knack. The character who uses it spends one Legend point as his player rolls (Charisma + Presence + Legend). The victim’s player contests this effect with a (Willpower + Integrity + Legend) roll. If the victim’s roll fails to garner the necessary successes, the victim falls madly, unquestioningly in love with the user of the Knack for a number of days equal to the user’s threshold successes. The victim is blindly enthralled and will do anything in her power to please the object of her affection. This Knack works regardless of the relative Legend disparity between the user and his victim. Using it unwisely against a more powerful character is ill advised, however. Fool Odin once, shame on him. Fool him twice, wolves on you.
Epic Manipulation 1: Stench of Guilt: This Knack gives a Scion an insight into the workings of a victim’s mind. If the Scion hears a topic come up while the victim is speaking that reminds the victim of a misdeed he’s keeping secret, the Scion senses the presence of that secret. The victim needn’t feel guilty about the wrongs he’s done, but as long as he’s taken, or is taking, pains to hide them, the Scion catches on. This Knack can’t reveal what secret the victim hides, nor does it point out specifically what was said in the conversation that reminded him of the transgression. Conversational context is usually enough for a crafty Scion to figure out where to start looking, though.
Epic Manipulation 1: Gods’ Honest: When she’s trying to convince someone of something, the Scion puts her hand to her heart, puts her hand on a stack of Bibles, holds up her right hand with her pinkie and thumb crossed in the palm, or performs some other gesture of sincerity. (Her player also spends a point of Legend.) When she does so, her would-be mark accepts that the Scion is telling the truth about the subject at hand, no questions asked, for the rest of the story. Only solid, incontrovertible proof showing that what the Scion said was undeniably false will convince the mark he’s been fooled. Even then, who ever is showing him the proof will have to convince him that the proof is genuine and not some clever forgery. A Scion with this Knack doesn’t have to lie when she uses it. She can also use it to convince a recalcitrant skeptic of the actual truth. If the Scion does so, no mortal force can convince that person that the Scion was lying (not even professionally faked “proof” to the contrary).

So I'm already confused. I thought I would post my questions here so other noobs can benefit.  ::)

  • So...this character sheet has a spot for Pantheons and then God? I figured out the Pantheon portion, which basically is asking what mythology my character's parent belongs to. The God portion? No bloody idea. xD This website doesn't mention it.
  • Deific goal? No clue what's supposed to go here either. >.>

So for instance, Herakles would list Dodekatheon under pantheon and Zeus under god.

Flower

And Flower slow moment. xD Thank you though. <3

About how much of a mix of combat, talking, etc is it? If I want to make a Scion of Odin who was adopted by Thor and /really/ likes to hit things, would she be left twiddling her thumbs most of the time?

I try to match my scenarios to the players, so that everyone gets their own chance to shine. There is likely to be some combat in most scenarios, but I couldn't day exactly how much in any given one.

That's fine. Whenever anyone has a concept they've settled on, just add it to the thread so everyone else can see what's being worked on and come up with.

I'd love to get in on a new Scion game! And I know it'll be good if you're running it, HH!

Is there any niche in particular that you think is missing from the current Band? I always have plenty of Scion concepts in my head, so I'm sure I can fill any role needed.

(I also wouldn't mind having another shot at playing Cuckoo, from the game we were in together that never really got off the ground, if that's okay?)

Are there any pantheons you do or don't want in the game?
If you're such an iconoclast, where were you when we trashed Constantinople?

Alright, this is the up to date copy. Andy was kind enough to help me last night but there's still a lot remainings. I only completed information through Attributes. The rest is just prefilled stuff  stolen from Hairy's template.

What year is the game in?

Epic Charisma 2 - Inspirational Figure: The Scion’s well-chosen words can play on humankind’s social mentality, giving hope and courage to not just one listener, but a group. The Scion gives a speech to gathered listeners—whether he’s calling upon them for help, raising their spirits after a local disaster or strengthening the bonds of community among them—and spends a single point of Legend. As long as his words are intended to inspire them in some way, every person who can hear him listens spellbound and receives a point of Willpower at the speech’s end. The only limit is that the listeners must be able to hear him clearly without him using the aid of any amplifying or broadcasting equipment. This Knack inspires other Scions as easily as mortals, but it doesn’t inspire titanspawn. Nonetheless, titanspawn are compelled to at least let him finish his speech before carrying out whatever they’re up to.
Epic Manipulation 1 - Stench of Guilt: This Knack gives a Scion an insight into the workings of a victim’s mind.
Epic Manipulation 2 - Gods’ Honest: When she’s trying to convince someone of something, the Scion puts her hand to her heart, puts her hand on a stack of Bibles, holds up her right hand with her pinkie and thumb crossed in the palm, or performs some other gesture of sincerity.
Epic Dexterity 1 - Trick Shooter: Not only do the Scion’s Epic Dexterity bonus successes add to (Dexterity + Marksmanship) dice rolls, he now doubles the bonus he receives from taking an Aim action (see p. 190) as well. What’s more, the player ignores the difficulty penalty for the character to either disarm an opponent with a ranged special attack or mark his opponent without causing damage. (See “Special Attacks” on p. 199.) A character must take an Aim action in order to be able to ignore such penalties, though. If a character fires from the hip or blazes away in a cordite-reeking, brass-raining, muzzle-strobing gunfight, only the regular bonus successes from his Epic Dexterity apply.
Epic Dexterity 2 - Shot To The Heart: Prerequisite Knack: Trick Shooter (Scion: Hero, p. 128) When fighting against fearsome titanspawn with armored hides, scaly skin or chitinous shells, sometimes a Scion has to aim for a very precise spot. Indeed, it was just such a weak spot that was the downfall of Achilles. Naturally, that sort of precision can be hard to achieve in the heat of battle, especially against a target with a supernaturally impressive defense. With the steady aim provided by Shot to the Heart, though, a Scion never needs to worry about hitting a small patch of exposed flesh, a vulnerable tendon or an eye between blinks — his attacks excel at finding the weak point. While Shot to the Heart is active, the Scion reduces any penalty for attacking a specific weak point by an amount up to his Epic Dexterity score. That is, if a giant turtle-like titanspawn has a weak spot in its soft underbelly, but striking the unarmored area has a difficulty of 5 and the attacking Scion has an Epic Dexterity of 3, then the Scion reduces the difficulty of making such a targeted shot to difficulty 2. Shot to the Heart can’t reduce the added difficulty of a targeted shot to less than zero — making an attack on a vital spot is never easier than just hitting the damn thing. Also, Shot to the Heart doesn’t give the Scion any innate knowledge of where a vital spot might be; it just lets him target the spot more effectively if he knows where to find one. While Shot to the Heart requires a Knack typically used with ranged combat as a prerequisite, this Knack can be used with any of the Scion’s attacks. Activating this Knack costs three points of Legend. Its effects last for one scene.
Epic Appearance 1 - Perfect Actor: The Scion can put on an emotional display so convincing that anyone who can see him clearly enough, and in person, to read his emotion feels that same emotion just as strongly as the Scion seems to. That emotional state lasts for the rest of the scene. When the effect wears off, the affected victims are unable to explain what came over them, and are likely embarrassed by letting their feelings run away with them like that. Activating this Knack costs one Willpower, and it works whether the Scion is beautiful or awful.
Epic Appearance 2 - Blinding Visage: Mortal beauty or ugliness can take one’s breath away, but divine beauty or ugliness can do so much more. When a Scion grows angry at a mortal — such as a tabloid photographer who just won’t leave him alone — his player can spend a point of Legend and sear his visage into the mortal’s retinas. Doing so blinds and disorients the mortal for the remainder of the scene. If the Scion’s Epic Appearance represents beauty, the victim meanders aimlessly, dazzled by the character’s divine radiance. If the Epic Appearance represents ugliness, the victim staggers around in a blind panic unable to get the awful visage out of his head. Rules for dealing with blindness appear on page 186 of Scion: Hero.
Epic Intelligence 1 - Speed Reader: The character can read and comprehend with perfect clarity an entire block of text—such as two facing pages of an open book—in the amount of time it takes her to blink. She need only be able to see the entire block clearly enough to focus her eyes on any given word in it.
Epic Intelligence 1 - Telepathy: The character’s mind is so powerful that he can think thoughts directly into other people’s brains for them. These thoughts come through in a recipient’s head as words spoken in the sender’s voice, and are recognizable as coming in from outside. The sender must be able to see the person whom he intends to address thus, and he must spend one Legend point per sent thought (i.e., per sentence). If the sender has the Multitasking Knack (from Scion: Demigod, p. 65), he can send the same thought to several people at once. The sender cannot receive telepathic information from a recipient unless the recipient also has Telepathy and spends the Legend point to use it.
Epic Stamina 1 - Body Armor:  The Scion’s body is so tough that, even unarmed, he can parry close-combat attacks that would inflict lethal damage. If a berserker hopped up on Jotunblut or a thrall full of eitr tries to split the Scion’s skull with a fi re ax, the Scion can take the blow on his forearm and knock it aside without serious injury. (That assumes the character’s Parry DV is sufficient to cancel out the attack roll’s successes, of course.) While that benefit remains in effect all the time, the Scion can also engage a temporary one that offers even more protection. With the expenditure of a Legend point, a measure of the Scion’s ichor wells up from within and coats the Scion’s body. This coating hardens into a gleaming, metallic armor that’s no thicker than a hair’s breadth. This armor has a bashing and lethal soak equal to the character’s Legend, and it inflicts a mobility penalty of only -1. The ichor coating is thin enough to fi t comfortably beneath one’s clothing, so it adds its protective value to that of any other armor the character might already be wearing. Natural armor from this Knack lasts for only one scene and disintegrates at the scene’s end.
Epic Stamina 1 - Skin–Shedding: Not only is this Knack a life-saving power, but it can also be an effective (if surreal) means of escape. If an enemy’s attack against the Scion inflicts enough damage to cause knockback, the Scion may spend a point of Legend and a point of Willpower to reflexively negate all damage from the attack. The attack still inflicts its knockback, though, seemingly knocking the Scion completely out of his skin. The empty husk collapses at the attacker’s feet, disintegrating over three ticks. The Scion who was apparently knocked out of his skin lands perfectly unharmed however far away the knockback threw him, retaining all of his clothing and possessions and radiating a golden sheen until the shed skin disintegrates. The Scion can use this Knack only once per scene.
Epic Perception 1 - Fool Me Once: Scions with this Knack are particularly adept at seeing through illusions and other supernatural masking effects. By spending two Legend points, the Scion can, for the rest of the scene, automatically see through all illusions created by a being whose Legend is less than her own. In addition, the Scion can recognize the telltale signs of the illusionist’s signature, if she has encountered that character’s deceptions before. She can’t sense an illusion and pull information from nowhere about its creator (that requires the Mystery Purview), but she could sense, “This is one of Loki’s tricks,” if the Lie-Smith had fooled her before. The one exception to the use of this Knack is trying to see through illusions and supernatural deceptions created by beings with either Ultimate Manipulation or the avatar expression of the Illusion Purview. The abilities of these divine tricksters transcend normal means of detection. A God who employs Ultimate Perception, however, has a chance to see through such illusions anyway. Ultimate Perception and use of this Knack guarantees success.
Epic Perception 1 - Subliminal Warning: Whenever the Scion enters an area where an ambush is waiting, even if he has no reason to suspect he’s in danger, certain tiny clues set his subconscious on edge, preparing him for an attack. When the attacker finally springs the surprise assault, the Scion hears the tiniest rustle of fabric, sees the slightest flicker in his peripheral vision or feels the gentlest twitch of displaced air, and the clues he already noticed all add up. As a result, the Scion gains an extra number of dice equal to his Epic Perception on the standard (Wits + Awareness) roll to detect the ambush.
Epic Perception 1 - Social Chameleon: Being thrust into a situation full of strangers who have bizarre customs and weird manners (such as a sorority house at the height of rush) can be disorienting, but the character with this Knack handles herself with remarkable aplomb. By observing the behavior of the people around her and reacting preternaturally quickly to their reactions to her behavior, she can fake like she fits in just about anywhere, with any class of people. She still has to dress the part, and the language barrier might pose its own problems, but she won’t embarrass or draw attention to herself unless she goes out of her way to do so on purpose.
Epic Perception 1 - Perfect Imposter: Prerequisite Knack: Social Chameleon (Scion: Hero, p. 136) Impersonating someone in order to infiltrate his home or workplace or to get dangerously close to someone he cares about is more difficult the less well the impersonator knows his subject. The best makeup and disguise means nothing if the imposter can’t react to life’s little surprises exactly as the subject of his mimicry would react. With this Knack, however, the Scion can discern with preternatural quickness how the people who think he’s someone else expect that someone else to react. Their minute changes of expression or body language give their expectations away, allowing the imposter to react accordingly. For the most part, this Knack plays itself out without resorting to dice rolls or trait comparisons. As the imposter’s player roleplays (and the imposter himself does so also), the Storyteller simply informs him of what the unsuspecting characters’ expectations are, and the player chooses his imposter’s reactions accordingly. This Knack does not provide a supernatural disguise that would fool someone with the Unfailing Recognition Knack (from Scion: Hero, p. 134), but even if such a Scion can see through the imposter’s disguise, his recognition alone would not be enough to convince anyone else. The imposter retains the wherewithal to stand up to any impromptu interrogation and maintain his charade in everyone else’s eyes, thus making the only other Scion who knows the imposter’s true identity look like a horse’s ass or a liar.

What kinds of stats are you giving the new people, Hairy?

Same character generation as we used when we started the game up.

Anyone who played through the first scenario will get xp for that, but it shouldn't put them significantly ahead of the others.

Any official Pantheon should be fine, with the exception of the WW2 ones. Sorry, but those just don't work for me. I may be prepared to allow non cannon ones on a case by case basis

Cuckoo would be fine, but you'd probably need to recreate her, I think my character generation may have been a bit different to that other game.

Alright, this is the up to date copy. Andy was kind enough to help me last night but there's still a lot remainings. I only completed information through Attributes. The rest is just prefilled stuff  stolen from Hairy's template.

What year is the game in?

Looks like you still have some knacks to pick out, but we can help you finish the sheet up :)

The game will be set in the present, more or less. Think of it as pretty much modern day, though I may monkey around with actual events and stuff.

Great! I'll do that, then. I think she fits your criterion of not being a simple clone of her divine parent, from the way that she takes after the Morrigan's cattle aspect rather than her more popular raven aspect. I'll comb through the creation rules and have something for you soon!

Eee! Scion! (I'm excited.)

Oh, Hairy, are new players going to be Legend 3 or 4?  It's quite the pertinent question since we may end up with a healer.

Hrm hrm. Here's my somewhat complete sheet, mechanically anyway. Should've spent nigh all XP, and my points, I think.

Pendraig

Name: Alexandria Pendraig
Hometown: Los Angeles
Pantheon: Tuatha
Deity: Nuada
Calling: The Classic White Knight
Nature: Gallant

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Height: 5'7
Weight: 137 lbs.
Hair color: Blonde
Eye color: Hazel Green
Skin tone: Porcelain-Creamy
Build: Athletic
Date of birth: March 3rd
Age: 25

HISTORY
Some Scions don't realize what they are, not immediately. Some have the grace of learning about it from their parents years in advance, some learn of it from a guide. Others are tested through trial or combat, learning of it in the heat of the moment.

Alex learned of it while laying in a pool of her own blood.

Every single day starts off potentially bad. It just doesn't usually end in her own hand trying to seal an oozing hole the size of her own fist. Every day starts off potentially bad... it just usually always works out for the FBI's Fly teams. The best days even keeps everyone alive. The FANTASTIC ones mean she gets to finish her shower.

Backing up a moment, Alexandria Pendraig was born in the City of Angels. A fitting city for the little bundle of sunshine and hope. Her life wasn't uneventful, but even the most dull and happy one could have books written on it. A good school, good grades. Good boyfriend. Good mother. Good pursuits. Good Life.

Perhaps a good pursuit in the view of the people, so much as her mother. Getting a law degree was fine and dandy, and so was looking up to brave Firemen and police officers. Becoming one - one particularly devoted to breaking into the worst kinds of situations with IED's rigged in a third of your missions - wasn't. But despite the occasional spit and spat about it, she's been fairly happy and safe.

So. Blood spilling between your fingertips, ears ringing. Half the team down and the hostage screaming her lungs out. And then learning your long lost beat dad casually strolling back into your while casually flicking bullets from the air, and then having the gall to smile and ask if you're okay? Mm. Not a great day. Not at all.

Alexandria doesn't speak of that little moment of she had with her father. In fact, she wasn't all too happy about it at all. Though maybe seeing a hint of regret or sadness in his eyes at her rejection was a small win - though she's been wondering if she'll ever see him again.

The Down Low
Alex is currently on leave from the task-force. After the incident and her psych evaluation, she'd been ordered to take time off, to grieve. Her mother doesn't know about her little Visitation, and she's not particularly keen to ask all those little questions regarding it: how did you meet? Did he leave something? Oh, did you know he was a god?

She'd been moonlighting a little, taking classes during the night - college is a pleasant place, sort of removed from the worries of the world except during Midterms. But she's also put that on hold to. In fact, that best describes her life.

Alexandria's a patriot. When it's convenient. A monotheist. When it's convenient. So essentially a true American. Learning of a pantheon of gods, of Titans. Everything has turned her world upside down and she's been left at a loss, like drift wood. Travelling seems to be on her agenda - and learning Irish. Probably a good place to start.

Personality and the Rest
Catch-words: Naive. Courageous. Protective.
Alex truly cares about people. And she's utterly innocent in so many ways - even seeing dead bodies hasn't diminished that. She's easy to fool except when it really matters, and she can't leave other people alone - protecting just comes so very natural to her. Her figure is as tempered as her mind, soft in all the right places yet firm in so many others. But at the end of the day, she's utterly sweet.

Except when on the job. There's just something...cold about her sometimes. Not towards those she helps. But the sheer intensity she has, sometimes. People tend to keep cool, yet she burns hot during a fight. Unlike so many other Scions who've gained some fame and experience fighting the very monsters she might have to...She's learned to battle against different kinds of monsters in the highest of life and death situations - at least for mortals.

Okay, here's what I've got!

Lady Caitlin Ceara "Cuckoo" Laine, daughter of the Morrigan

Name: Lady Caitlin Ceara Laine
Nickname: Cuckoo
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Divine Parent: The Morrigan (Tuatha De Danaan)
Nature: Bravo
Calling: Fertile Warrior

Background:

Lady Caitlin Ceara Laine, or "Cuckoo" Laine, was born into the family of the Earl of Carrick, the third of four daughters, with two brothers. Lord Carrick was not her father, though - her "father" is the Irish goddess called the Morrigan, who took a male form to seduce Lady Carrick. Lord Carrick has forgiven his wife for her infidelity, but has not forgiven the Morrigan for the seduction. The Morrigan cares little for Lord Carrick's forgiveness.

The Carrick estate in Tipperary, Ireland, gains much of its wealth from its dairy farms, many of which are leased to tenant farmers. Cuckoo took an interest in dairy farming from a very young age, spending most of her free time out in the pastures, playing with the cows and learning how to care for them. The rest of her time was spent on getting into fights at school - sometimes fighting bullies to protect their victims, sometimes just picking fights for the hell of it.

As Cuckoo grew to become a young adult, her strength and her beauty blossomed equally. The more cruel of the girls at school said she had the body of a cow (when she couldn't hear them), and her great height, broad shoulders, wide hips and huge bust seemed to prove them right. She could wrestle a hardy farm labourer to the ground with ease, wrangle an unruly bull just as easily, and haul a full load of produce across the estate without breaking a sweat. Her appetite for violence was matched only by her appetite for sex, and by the age of seventeen she was pregnant with the child of one of the tenant farmers, whom she had seduced with little regard for his wife.

On the day Cuckoo discovered she was pregnant, the Morrigan appeared to her in the form of a white heifer. She told her that she was her child, and thus inherited her divine nature of war and fertility. Like many other Scions, this news was not as surprising to Cuckoo as it should have been. The Morrigan granted Cuckoo several gifts, bade her to become a mighty hero, and departed.

Cuckoo heeded the Morrigan's words. Since her Visitation, she has battled against mortal thugs and oppressors, the servants of the Titans, and whatever creatures were wicked enough to threaten her people or unlucky enough to catch her in a bad mood. She has borne two more children - one from an Irish politician she particularly admired, the other from an Unseelie aes sidhe she once fought - and left them in Tipperary for her parents to raise while she quested.

Personality:

Cuckoo fights hard and plays hard. She rarely bides her tongue (or her fists) when she sees injustice or cruelty, but also starts fights over minor insults or simply for the sake of the fight. She can be cruel when her temper is roused, but takes her role as hero and protector seriously, and can be very compassionate, particularly towards farmers or pregnant women. She also rarely reins in her lust, when the desire for a particular man takes her, and rarely lets a wife's objections sway her.

Cuckoo lacks the emotional coldness of many Scions of the Morrigan, as she follows her cow aspect rather than her raven aspect. She does not lurk around battlefields after the battle is over, save to assist in the burial of anyone who has no comrades to bury them. She is a creature of war and fertility - the Morrigan's other Scions can handle death and omen-reading.

Appearance:

Cuckoo is a huge woman, standing 6'1" tall, with massively broad shoulders and muscles that would put a steroid-abusing bodybuilder to shame. Her huge breasts and wide hips mark her as a woman of great fertility. She has long, flaming red hair and bright green eyes. She always wears a long white cloak trimmed with swan feathers, sometimes clasped in front to serve as a kirtle or kilt. If she wears anything else, it is usually a slate-grey T-shirt or blouse and either jeans or a knee-length skirt. She goes barefoot when she can.

When her divine beauty is active, Cuckoo is immensely desirable. Her breasts sit high on her chest in spite of her three pregnancies to date, and the cant of her hips invites men to bed her. Her hair shines in the ambient light, and her eyes are gleaming emerald orbs.

When Cuckoo displays her fearsome aspect, she is hideous to behold. Her lips contort into a feral snarl, her hands form into hoof-like fists that promise violence, and her breasts sag like a harpy's.

Certainly! Lotsa women too, I think! Since we're joining the current group... Think they're both warriors too!

Anyway, Harry! I have a question. Is there going to be any house ruling for Parrying? I know Untouchable Opponent got a nerf, but wonder if Parrying's going to be house ruled to be better oooor not.
It's currently (Dex + Athletics+ Legends)/2 for Dodge, and (Dex + Melee + Weapon)/2 Which is totes fine right now, but y'know! Just wondering.

Almost done with my Horus Lawman but I have to say I keep being tempted towards making a Scion of Aphrodite and if there is a need for a cunning an manipulative toon I don't mind switching.

Edit: Here are the values for my Horus toon.

History

For much of Leo's life it had always been just him and his mum and as far as he was concerned that was all they needed. The rest of her family did not approve of his mother having a child out of wedlock and had essentially disowned her and let her to fend for herself and her unborn child when she gave them the news. As for Leo's father? Leo was convinced he was just another deadbeat dad, probably lying drunk in a gutter somewhere complaining about their lot in life. When he asked his mother about him she would always say how he was a wonderful, kind and righteous man, that they had meet when she had been in an abusive relationship and anytime the neighbours called the police she had been too scared to tell them. His father supposedly hadn't bothered to follow due process and had simply beat the crap out of her boyfriend to give him the message to leave her alone. Leo liked that story, liked to think he has dad was some noble hero who was willing to break the rules if it meant bringing scumbags to justice but truth be told he always thought it more likely his Dad was the boyfriend and that his Mum had plucked up the courage to run away when she found out she was pregnant with him. He appreciated the fact she tried to protect him from the truth but he could see a bit of the abusive boyfriend in him. At times he would just get so angry with people, typically it was people that it was acceptable to be angry with bullies, by those who were rude and broke the law and unfairly sought to profit off and abuse others but he wanted to hurt them, he wanted to punish them and sometimes he just wasn't able to stop himself. Once when he leaving school him stumbled across the school bully wailing on some little kid while his friend pinned his arms behind him and he lost it. He grabbed the first thing he could find which just so happened to be a rock and launched it at the bully's friend striking his eyebrow and splitting it open before he rushed in and tackled the bully. Then he just started punching his face, over and over again without a thought for what was going on around him until the one of the teachers pulled him off him. He got expelled for that, his mum was forced to pay for the medical bills and they almost lost their house. He felt so bad for the stress he put his mother through, for how he might have reminded her of her ex but he couldn't deny how much he had loved it, loved the feeling of dispensing his own justice upon the wicked.

Despite his strong desire to punish the wicked life was fairly normal, he played sports and video games with friends, crushed on girls and went to parties. He wasn’t the most popular guy in cool but he wasn't the least, those who knew him liked him well enough provided they kept their nose clean. Still as adulthood loomed ahead of him and the time came to choose where exactly his life would lead he knew there was only one path for him, law enforcement. He wanted to catch bad guys, wanted to make them pay and he wanted to hunt the worst of the worst so when he graduated high school his next stop was college to study criminology graduating with a 4.0 before moving to Detroit and serving the Detroit Police Department as a detective. His rise within the force was meteoric, he had the highest number of arrests with convictions in his precinct and even managed to uncover deep seated corruption and  within the force. Sadly this last one put him at odds with most of coworkers and even some of his superiors and so they wanted rid of him and fast but it wasn't easy, he was just that good. So when the agent position opened up in the FBI his name was put forward immediately. It was during his work for the FBI that

but I don't know if anyone has identified the pics used.

Oh, Hairy, are new players going to be Legend 3 or 4?  It's quite the pertinent question since we may end up with a healer.

They'll be built at Legend 3, as per the character creation guidelines.

If we bring the original group up to legend 4, then we'd want to keep everyone on the same legend rating. You and Muse would have some extra XP over the others though, since you played through the first scenario.

I'm not familiar with any, but if you know of some I'd be happy enough to look at them.

I wonder if they'll end up using the 3rd ed Exalted combat system when they revamp Scion to 2nd edition.

Did I miss anyone's questions?

Only rules are allowing legend to add to parry. As it is, untouchable opponent is the biggest reason why it's way stronger than parry, at the eventual 12 legend - and well, it's usually applicable to -everything- as opposed to parry, which works against weapons until you use whirling to make it effective against thrown attacks (and bows). Need a 'stunt' to parry bullets.

Again, it's no problem early! It's something to cross at much higher levels, I think.

So, is my sheet okay? Not sure what else I should do!

HopeFox

It would be cool to have more options for defence at high Legend, like an "Untouchable Opponent" equivalent for parrying. Gods should be able to choose between being ninjas and being tanks. :) But, same here - it doesn't matter at this level - I haven't taken any knacks relating to either parrying or dodging yet.

Hey Hairy, it is time. What time ya ask? why it is now the start of "Phaia's questions" time. As Hairy knows I often have tons of questions on various aspects.
First off after spinning around ideas [which does make my blondeness hurt a bit] I have a lovely concept.

A rogue, a thief, well she is a Scion of Bastet and handles acquisitions of lost or stolen relics [and if she just happens to 'find' money or jewels or various other things in the general area of said relic well a girl has a certain standard of living]. One of those relics she got during her visitation and was allowed to keep [I hope].

1st question] In demi-gods they list a 2 dot relic called "The Golden Servant of Hephasetus" could my character have one of them as a birthright? It is called a colossi and an antagonist but also says they are given to scions [yes normally to Greek and not Pesedjet] Having my character as a 'burglar' it would be handy and fun.

2nd question] This probably should have been first but will you have a problem with a character that is a cat burglar/finder of lost relics and things? She will also be at least officially reprimanded by her mother Bastet and of vacation. [privately this was all Bastet's plan and her family have been agents of bastet for a long time]. She is not evil and flies in the face of a lot of Pesedjet virtues.

3rd question] well this one is kinda for Cuchulainn and deviant [hello to both btw]. If Hairy has no problem with my character concept and seeing as you two have sorry ass...I mean are upstanding Law types [both FBI?] would you like to have heard about my character and her family. They are English and have a title.  ;) ;)

4th question] Legend 3 correct, that does mean only max of 2 epic dots and only 2 dot boons.?

You know me Hairy now that I have turned on the tap more questions will tumble out.  O:) O:) ;D

Well, if that was the rekic she 'found' during her visitation, it would provide a good enough reason for her to keep it, even if it's not something that would come from her side of the family :)

There is an option to change out pantheon virtues for something more suited to the character, but it will mean it becomes more expensive to buy certain advances as you go.

As for the character concept, I have no issue with it. I build one somewhat similar myself recently, a son of Manannan MacLir, whose speciality was finding similar lost items in the depths of South East Asia.

The tough part is that Untouchable Opponent becomes ridiculous at higher levels.  Defense Values aren't all that well balanced, and it's not difficult to get such a high dodge that you need Epic Dexterity for anyone to hit you at all.

Michelle's Dodge DV is 10, so it'll usually be 9 after taking an action.  If someone has 11 dice to attempt to hit her, they need 4 automatic successes (Epic Dex 3) just to have a ~50/50 chance.  Throw in Untouchable Opponent and you need to raise that even more.  However, if you have an NPC with Epic Dex 4, then nobody but someone who already has a high Epic Dex has a decent chance to hit them at all.
It's all good, and it's all in fun.  Now get in the pit and try to love someone.

The way I am working it out is part of her visitation included Bastet testing her abilities. A German castle, a family with ties to Nazi germany, stolen relics [none more powerful then 2 dots] paintings , Nazi treasure. deep vault, neo-nazi goons etc.

Okay here is my next question for ya Hairy.

My character is gonna have a 3 dot relic that adds legend to any Dex roll. Could she also use a relic that adds legend to an ability?
Example I was considering is a 2 dot relic adding to larceny. So picking pocket of a lock might then give her legend added twice. Of course cracking a safe would probably use perception and forgery something else.
I am already looking at 15 spent on birthrights and maybe as much as the whole 15 BP plus the normal 5.

I am just considering it at the moment. Yes it is a lot in points but I am looking at a lot spent in birthrights...funny thing there may not be a weapon in them....though that may change.

Here is an extra tidbit on my character. Her cover that she uses to move around is that is a Pro surfer and follows the circuit. Which has spots in Europe, South Pacific, Africa, South east Asia, Hawaii and the west coast even a couple on the east coast.
Surfer girl has only won once [she works to not win since that gets in the way of her main duties] and I could make her a spokes girl for some surf thing....  :o "Mr. Zog's Sex Wax"  O:) O:) ;D

Hello!,

Phaia's question, if they are just a famous family of British people, no not unless they have some history of criminal stuff going on.

Now some questions of my own.

1) If we don't want FBI I can quite happily change mine to an english character, make use of the ties England has with Egypt (you know stealing all their stuff) and have him work for the NCA

2) Are my Boons and Dots right? Not sure after Phaia's question

3) Who should I use for a face claim, currently stuck between.

Isha Blaaker

I'm leaning a bit more towards Isha but dunno.

I hope to have more done by tomorrow but basically her family have been agents for Bastet since the early 1900s [that is if that's okay with Hairy]. The family have been linked to thief of things since WW2. At least one relation has been arrested somewhere. They have been able to recover some a bunch lost/stolen relics for several different patheons. Of course the Pesedjet have made sure to take credit for the return of the relics.
I was gonna say there has been one other scion from the family but he was killed in the 60s during the cold war while in Russia trying to recover something.

My characters capers have been around the world even in Hawaii and California perhaps even in Florida. Most of the things she steals do not get reported since they are stolen or lost relics...though there is at least one sercurity/bounty hunter group tracking her though no one is sure what she really looks like. Just that it seems she is following the pro surfer circuit...maybe.

As for the face claims I kinda like Joe myself but all three would get my character to lower her sunglasses and look them over.

Well if I switch him to London which I think I will then he might be aware, as for the face claim Joe was my first choice. He's got the advanced years, the burly frame, and the rugged steely, no nonsense, do whatever it takes to get the bad guy, look I wanted in the scion. Also Horus is described as typically being fair skin when he takes human form, but I did fall in love with Isha when I saw him, bah might just have to save him for something else. Cuckoo is the daughter of the Earl of Carrick, who is part of the Peerage of Ireland, and might also be titled Baron Laine in the Peerage of the United Kingdom (Irish nobility is complicated). She's in the Irish society pages a lot for having three children from undisclosed fathers and for being outspokenly pagan. She's moderately aware of the goings-on in the peerages, although Society isn't really her thing. Also, hi Phaia!

Yeah, I've noticed that. At higher Legend, a serious combatant pretty much needs to max out their Epic Dexterity, no matter what style of fighting they use... which is a sign of poor game design.

Fate is awfully handy that way - it gives the GM a good in-universe way to fudge things to their liking!

I'm really looking forward to the second edition. I love the Scion setting, and the ideas behind the Boons ad Epic Attributes are great, but the mechanical implementation isn't great. My girlfriend runs a lot of Scion games at conventions, and she uses a very modified and cut-down version of the system.

No reason her family couldn't have married into one of the pre English royal families, probably the O'Neill's. That would give her another tie.

Ooh, I like that idea! Maybe her mother can be descended from Niall of the Nine Hostages.

*does some research*

Apparently everybody in Ireland is descended from Niall of the Nine Hostages. Dude got around.

Interestingly, though, the region where Cuckoo's family now lives used to be part of the Kingdom of Osraigh, which was (legendarily) ruled in the second century by Loegaire Birn Buadach and the Dál Birn dynasty, who actually survived into modern times as the FitzPatrick family, who ruled as Earls of Upper Ossory into the 19th century. Cuckoo's mother can be from that family!

Well I was  thinking that if she can use them as brass knuckles [which from waht i read use brawl] then they were gonna have a couple [or 3] dots on extra damage. Though I was also considering adding 3 dot legend to strength roll which as she gets more legend adds more dice to her raw damage rolls. I have not found many other uses for strength rolls. So I will probally not go that route. Though it is  way to scale extra damage as someone goes up in legend. After all at some point the raw damage begins to rely only on eDex success's.

Anyway That was the plan. I may just also use my orginal idea
Quote
Brass Knuckles- +1 Acc, +3B, +1 Def, Spd 4
Add +1 to damage
Unique 1 Dot power- Add (Legend x 5)(10 Yards) to a weapon's Range.
Unique 1 Dot Power- Control up to range allowing the 'hand' to crawl or climb or work levers. This uses her strength (+any Epic Bonus)
Which If I understand right would allow brawl attacks at range?

Do you have any ideas or suggestions?

Well, Luke would suggest sending the claw scurrying up the bad guys trouser leg during combat ought to prove more than a little distracting. ;)

How does this sound for my character's name?

Jacquelyn Nafteta Greystoke

Nafteta is ancient original Egyptian for Nefertiti and means 'Beautiful has come'. And yes she is related to THAT Greystoke. [Several greats uncle or maybe several greats grandfather if Hairy allows]

No objections from me :)

I know you are allowing lvl1 and lvl 2 boons in purview if you spend 2 dots on said purview. Does that include magic? There is something like 10--1 and 2 dot spells out there?

Also can you place a magic spell in birthright/relic like any other boon?

Yea I would also like it to be explained how buying Boons higher than rank 1 works and how much they cost.

Hairy, say I wanted to add a 1 dot +1 damage to unarmed. Is it even possible? after all several knacks build on unarmed combat [though I have never understood the reasoning behind the grappling aspect they seem to push with the strength knacks]. Are brass knuckles considered unarmed for the knack Divine wrath, which lefts unarmed damage become lethal!

I really did not want to make Jack into an epic strength fighter, yet she is not the sort to use weapons or guns!

You could always give them a 1 dot power that adds your Legend to Dexterity+Brawl rolls. That will improve your chances of hitting, and also increase your damage, and it keeps getting better as you gain Legend.

At character creation only I'm allowing boons to be bought in the same way as epic abilties, since they come from the same points pool. Starting at Legend 3, the characters will be able to purchase rank 1 or rank 2 boons at 1 point each, from the pool of 10 that you have to start.

Buying them with bonus points is the standard 5 (or 4 if favoured).

Buying them with XP will be as per normal XP spend.

Magic are considered boons, so yes, that also applies to those.

Yeah, the grappling thing doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. which is why I'm okay with Crushing Grip being use for any kind of unarmed attack, rather than only grappling.

Realisticly once you go above Hero, you need epic abilities to get enough damage through the bad guys soak. That means either epic strength for a melee fighter, or epic perception to add to missile damage.

Another way you might counteract that is with Fight With Your Head. Soak is boosted by epic stamina, and FWYH allows you to negate your opponents epic bonuses. "This Knack can negate bonuses from Knacks and Boons, as well as automatic successes and bonuses from Epic Attributes themselves."

Does that help?

Yea that means magic is the BOOMMB! purview to start with!! 2 bonus dots gains a character 11 spells. Yes some of the spells are almost useless but you still have them. I would like to offer a suggestion for magic.
For each bonus point spent the character receives 2 spells. The 1st BP only allows 1 dot magic. The 2nd BP allows 1 or 2 dot spells. This still gives someone at least 4 spells to start and with 5 BP they basically get all the 1 and 2 dot magic spells.

Yes and no. Yes in that allowing Crushing grip to work for any kind of unarmed attack helps. Though it does kinda mess with the next knacks in that chain.
No in that I do not think I was clear in my question--Hairy, say I wanted to add a 1 dot +1 damage to unarmed-- what I am asking here is how to add 1 dot to unarmed/clinch.
QuoteGain a +1 to a weapon's Accuracy, Damage, or Defense.
How to apply this to unarmed when you do not have a weapon per see to add the 1 dot too. I guess I could say my character herself is a relic and spend 3 dots to improve her ACc with unarmed... or maybe a tattoo. Then what about heavy Unarmed which states you are using your feet. I suppose that is why brass knuckles were added to brawl but to me that seems cheap and not in the spirit of a Scion.

As for the insane DV's I have a suggestion but first for the others an example. Jack has 5 Dex, 2 eDex, 4 athletics and 5 brawl. This works out as follows. for DV you go [Dex+Ath+legend]/2 =6+2 eDex = 8 DV without untouchable opp. To attack she has. Dex+brawl+leg [from relic] =12 dice +2 success from eDex. To hit herself she would need 7 success's from 12 dice. If She had untouchable even with Hairy's houserule she would be at a 10 DV and then would need 9 success's with 12 dice.

There are minor ways to improve it a bit. +Acc to a weapon works best at lower legend, after all why worry about that extra damage when you cannot hit. The Deodekatheon have Arete which really help equal things up[I am honestly really considering the Deodekatheon just for that reason]. There are of course some boons and effects that can very effectively win a battle. My suggestion for this though is simple. Instead of dividing by 2 divide by 3. [Dex+Ath+Leg]/3=4 +2 eDex=6 Dv for Jack to start this is makes combat faster. Now to hit herself she only needs 5 success out of 12 dice [or 7 with UO which can still be doable with a bit of luck]

Anyway Hairy I was wondering really how to build something that adds to unarmed without needing to take say brass knuckles or some sort of foot ware?

If you want to get that many spellls you're going to end up very light on epic abilitites though, and have no other purview boons either. I've never been a fan of specialising to that degree, as it means outside your chosen field, you're going to find it a lot harder to do anything. I like magic myself, but I'd rarely take more than 2 or 3 spells to start with.

Given that the points reduction only applies on the initial 10 knacks / boons, any bonus spells / boons / knacks are still going to cost 4-5BPs

Ok, I got you now.  One of the one dot powers in the Companion relic creation section is 'Add wearer’s Legend to any single (Attribute + Ability) roll.' Take any relic and add that power to your dex+brawl, and it should get the effect you're after, I think.

Add wearer’s Legend to any single (Attribute + Ability) roll is probably your best bet to start with. Look at the boons and knacks that can affect combat, or grant more dice.

What is considered a relic for unarmed combat? The character's hands? Feet? Arms for clinching? Body?
For melee you have weapons, same for Markmanship and even thrown. What do you have as a relic for unarmed besides Brass knuckles [which technically can be considered a weapon]?

The only way I have found using RAW is nothing to add +dam+acc+def to unarmed. I would prefer not to have Jack Use a weapon.

A relic can be any item. It doesn't have to be one actively being used to grant the bonus. It could be a ring, a necklace, a pair of sunglasses, but it still grants the bonus.

I think we may have crossed wires somewhere. Using the core charater building, a character gets 10 dots that the can distribute between epic attributes and boons. From those 10 points, an epic attribute costs 1 dot, a level 1 boon costs 1 dot, and a level 2 boon costs 2 dots (as written). For my character creation, that level 2 boon only costs 1 dot, not 2.

Any additional epic attributes or boons (including spells) cost either 5 BPs, or 4 if a favoured one.

If you want to spend the 10 free Boon and Epic attribute points on spells, you could. You would be able to get 10 rank 1 or 2 spells, but you would have no other purview boons, and no epic abilities.

Does that help clarify things?

So you still need an item to grant +dam to unarmed. So a ring or Tattoo could be a 3 dot relic that grants +3 acc to unarmed? Would that apply to Heavy Unarmed? To Clinch attacks? Could you have another item that grants +damage?

Maybe we did cross wires or maybe it is just a blonde moment for me? Okay by your house rule If I spend 2 build dots on a purview the character gains the 1 and 2 dot boon. Which is cool and I like.
If I spend 1 dot on the magic Purview she then gets a 1 dot spell? If spending 2 dots she gets a 1 dot and a 2 dot spell? The way my head was reading it was different

I wasnt asking about adding legend to a roll here Hairy. For 1 dot you can add +1 acc or +1 dam or +1 def to a weapon. Just like you can spend 1 dot and add +1 DV or 1 dot for +1B/+1L to amor/clothing.

I was asking on What would I place 3 dots of +3 acc? Must it be a weapon
okay as an example would these relics work for you?
On right hand/arm a tattoo that gives +3 accuracy to all unarmed attacks. 3 dots of course
on Left hand/arm a tattoo that gives +3 damage to all unarmed attacks. 3 dots
Then any item that gives a 1 dot add legend to dex +brawl attack.

HairyHeretic

No, but that power adds a number of dice equal to the users legend to any roll. It's a 1 dot power that will scale with the character, and be a better points investment than a single +1. At legend 3, its adding 3 dice to your attack for 1 dot of relic ability.

If you want to use this ability for unarmed combat, add the power to the dex + brawl roll, and you're sorted. If you really want to add a further relic to add additional accuracy or damage, you can do that too.

Generally speaking I prefer relics to be physical items rather than tattoos.

okay!  ;) ;) earlier when we were discussing the knuckles and the the range unique power you said
QuoteYeah, it looks like it would. Effectively you'd still be making a melee attack, just out to a short distance.
Did you mean brawling? Or does it become a melee attack when range is added. Jack has nothing in melee combat so I was checking?

You said that a 3 dot add legend to dex and a 1 dot add legend to dex+ brawl you would allow and stack. How about 2 that have 1 dot add legend to dex+brawl? ;D ;D

Hairy you suggested maybe my character would benefit from changing one of more virtues but there is a plenty. I am not sure how to work it though. It says "Characters who possess one or more Virtues that are not part of their pantheon's Virtue set pay one additional point when gaining or increasing Boons granted by their parent God or pantheon". What point? Is that for the design/build points including bonus points or is this for exp points spend or both? Would it include the pantheon specific purview?

Melee was a poor word choice on my part there. I meant it in terms of not ranged combat, and didn't distinguish between armed and unarmed. I should have used brawl, so that was my bad.

Well, I don't think there is anything in the rules to stop you using the same relic ability twice. Its not somethat that would be commonly done, but in this case I'll allow it. You might as well make it one relic with two dots worth of power.

Judging by the wording on that sidebar, it sounds like its for boons gotten after character creation, so I would say it refers to normal xp spend. PSP would be more expensive for a character to increase if they didn't have aligned virtues. I'm pretty sure its impossible to get access to someone else's PSP.

*laughs* I may be done for now Hairy thanks for being patient. If that silver knuckle hand thingy's unique  power is used to make it able to do things at reach. It would take the characters action to do so correct? after all there is a 4 dot that animates a relic [which I have considered since it might be fun to have a hand able to do things on its own with only limited direction]. Though weirdly the golden servant is only 2 dots and does a heck of lot more.

Qi Hand allows for up to (IIRC) Legend actions at once. The hand is going to be limited to a single action, and has physical restrictions which the Qi Hand power does. I think Relic 1-2 is probably about the right ballpark for it.

Do you have any sort of messenger program or anything that I can try to help you with character stuff?

Thanks!   :D

By messenger program, you mean something like YIM, right?  YIM is the only one I have and I am not fond of using it.  >.<

That said, if you don't mind PMing, I would appreciate the help.  I think I have a decent portion completed minus the issues I have highlighted in red,

Okay, Legend 2.  BP are the 'Freebie Points' correct?  I'll note down the Exp a little later.

Yeah, BP are freebie points used during character creation.

Stuff bought with XP has a diiferent cost to that bought at character creation. Plus I have some slightly non standard character creation stuff, which is listed in the opening post of my game OOC thread. The link should be slightly up-thread here.

Alright.  I was also informed that apparently I was incorrect when working with Attributes and new characters cannot have above three in them without expending Bonus/Freebie Points and/or Exp.  This is my first draft.  Below is the updated one according to the new information that AndyZ provided me.

So, at the moment, I am working on figuring out Birthrights (Creatures, Followers, Guides, and Relics).  It seems that Creatures and Followers aren't useful compared to Guides and Relics, though I don't really know why as I have been playing around with the idea of bringing in a swarm of monkeys to instill chaos on foes (stealing weapons, pickpocketing information, and other similar ideas).  As for Guides, I sort of get them, but I don't know much in that regard.  As for Relics, they are basically magical items, no?  I will have to think of Relics (unless there are per-designated ones to pick and choose?) that fit the character I have in mind.

Now, since I learned that characters start at Legend 3 (not 2 like I thought), Epic Attributes and Boons (No idea what boons are exactly) can only be level 2 max.  From what I understand, Epic Attributes are major boosts to the regular attributes, correct?

I'm still not sure about the Virtues aspect beyond the fact that the Celestial Hierarchy's Virtues are Duty, Harmony, Intellect and Valor.  Andy said something about focusing on Valor, but I really don't understand the Virtues enough to know why.

As for the Freebies, I think I saw a 'spending chart' on them when looking up my character sheet walkthrough that I am using, so I think I have that down.  However, Andy said that new characters start with 50 Exp, no?  I have no idea how to 'spend' that on increasing my character's Attributes/Abilities and similar.

Followers can be useful, moreso at Hero levels, to provide skills that the character doesn't.

Relics are magic items, some of which can grant access to different purviews. Purviews are the schools that boons come from, if you want to think of boons as spells (that's probably the simplest way to do it).

Epic attributes are the manifestations of the characters divine abilities. When you buy an increase in the characters epic ability, you get a scaling up of power (automatic successes when using that ability), as well as knack (superhuman ability of some kind)

Virtues are kind of defining characteristics for the character. Most are likely to be in line with those of their parental pantheon, though its not essential.

XP is earned normally through gameplay. By starting the characters at Legend 3, in my game they've had an adventure or two before now, hence they also get some XP to spend. It's spend on the same things as during character creation, just the costs are different. And you can't buy birhtrights with XP, so if you plan to advance in a certain way that requires a particular birthright, buy it at character creation.

At your suggestion, I will be expressing interest as someone who basically knows nothing of Scion, but is willing to learn.  It may take some time to figure out how the system works and find a character sheet or something to help build my own.

So, for the moment, I shall bookmark here.   :-)

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'll be working my sheet today since I don't have work. <3

Character WIP (Nearly Complete)

Character Model:  Allen Tsai
Character Name:  Alex Rhodes
Player Name:  King Serperior
Age:  23
Calling:  The Calm Hero in the Eye of the Storm
Nature:  Rogue:  Rogues are a law unto themselves, existing by their own rules and taking what they need to survive. Some are con men, lotharios or simple, petty thieves, or they may be as murderous and cold-blooded as gangsters. Others are simply ordinary people who aren't afraid to bend or break a rule in order to enjoy life a bit more. Some people are born Rogues, raised with an appreciation for the finer things in life and few scruples to hinder them. Others become Rogues just trying to stay alive. Laws are well and good, but when you're out of money and there's nothing to eat, what else can you do?

Rogues at their best are hero-thieves, such as Robin Hood or Ali Baba. They steal or commit crimes to counter even greater injustices, sharing their bounty with those less fortunate. At their worst, Rogues are rapacious predators who believe that if something can't be properly protected, their victim deserves to have it stolen.

Advantages:

Birthrights (5/5 points used):

Sun Wukong's Gū Bàng (Magic Staff) - 5 Point Relic:  A wooden staff given by Sun Wukong, it is obviously not Sun Wukong's original weapon considering the weapon was made of iron and weighed nearly 8 tons!  Despite that, this staff is indestructible, can change size in seconds between a stick that can fit into a pocket to that of a pole vaulter's pole, and can shift between a staff and a Guan Dao, known as a Chinese Halberd.  The staff has been imbued with special properties that allow it to hit spirits as well as physical beings equally.  The staff also allows the wielder to add their Legend to any single Dex + Melee roll.  While in staff form, it uses Bashing damage;  While in Guan Dao form, it uses Lethal damage.

Sun Wukong's Magical Headband - 2 Point Relic:  Luckily, this headband is not the one that Sun Wukong actually wears since it restrains his powers and constricts around his head under a special chant.  Rather, this headband is much more useful to a Scion for it grants the wearer access to the Chaos Purview.  The headband has the words 'Chaos, Madness, Sight' written on it in Chinese symbols.  It also grants the wearer the ability of
Night Eyes

Dice Pool: None

Cost: None

Darkness no longer inflicts visibility penalties on the character. She can see in pitch-blackness almost as well as she can see in bright sunlight, losing only the ability to perceive colors. (Objects she sees in darkness are black-on-black yet perfectly distinguishable in a way that is conveniently impossible to describe to someone who does not have this Boon.) The Scion cannot see through physical impediments, however.
.

Hermes' Shoes of Flight - 2 Point Relic:  Gifted to Alex by Hermes for helping a couple of his offspring out of a dangerous situation, they grant the wearer the ability of
Wind's Freedom

Dice Pool: None

Cost: 1 Legend + 1 Willpower per scene

The Scion laughs in the face of gravity. For the rest of the scene, the distances the Scion can move or dash per action remain normal, but they now apply to the Z-axis as well as the X- and Y-axes. All the normal rules for movement remain in place, except that the character can now move freely through all three dimensions (i.e., she can fly). She can even hold still in midair if she wants to. The only thing a character cannot do in midair that she could do on the ground is jump, as there is nothing to jump off of. If the character drops the Birthright that makes this Boon possible or allows it to be destroyed, the effect ends immediately.
.  The shoes look like regular running shoes with a pair of wings painted on the sides.

Epic Attributes (10/10 points used):

Strength - Shockwave

Description:  The Scion is so strong that he can direct his incredible power through the ground or floor to affect enemies at range. Doing so takes two separate forms. First, the character can stomp or strike the ground with his fists or a weapon, which sends a shock wave outward from him along the ground across an area with a radius equal to his Epic Strength in yards. Striking the ground thus to send out the shock wave requires a Strength roll, which receives the benefit of his Epic Strength. Potential victims — friend and foe alike — compare their Dodge DV to the results of this roll. If their DV overcomes the Scion’s successes, they manage to jump and let the shock wave pass beneath them. If their DV isn’t high enough, they immediately suffer knockdown as well as an amount of bashing damage equal to however many of the Scion’s successes their DV couldn’t cancel out. (If his allies know the Scion is about to use this Knack — if his using it is part of a coordinated assault, for instance — they can jump out of the way preemptively without having to rely on their DVs.) This attack inflicts no damage on the floor or the ground the Scion strikes. All the energy is expended into the shock wave. The second form this power takes is more selective and deliberate. As with the first form, the Scion strikes the ground and sends a shock wave along the surface out to a distance equal to his Epic Strength in yards. This time, though, his player makes a standard Dexterity-based attack roll and targets a single opponent. If that opponent’s Dodge DV isn’t high enough to get him out of the way of the attack, the Scion’s player then makes a Strength roll, modified by his Epic Strength but not modified by his extra successes on the attack roll. The damage this attack inflicts is bashing, but it has one other effect that renders the victim almost helpless for a moment afterward. Any successes on the Strength roll that exceed the victim’s soak not only inflict damage but also hurl the victim straight up in the air (one yard per unsoaked success). The victim’s rise and fall takes six ticks, during which his DVs are considered to be halved. He can make ranged attacks at a -5 penalty, but he can’t move or jump or do much of anything until he lands again. In fact, if the Scion’s attack sends him high enough in the air, the victim might take damage from crashing back down from so great a height. Using either form of this Knack requires the expenditure of one Legend point.

Dexterity - Untouchable Opponent

Description:  The Scion might as well be a ghost for all her enemies can lay a hand or a weapon on him. The Scion doubles the benefit that her Epic Dexterity dots add to his Dodge DV. He also ignores an amount of DV penalties due to unstable terrain equal to his Epic Dexterity dots. Only the normal Epic Dexterity bonus applies to the character’s Parry DV, though, and this Knack’s bonus to Dodge DV doesn’t apply if the character is merely hiding behind cover or tucked in behind a scutum (shield) like a lowly turtle. Only if the character is physically dodging the attacks that are coming his way does this Knack help him out. Activating this Knack costs one point of Legend. Its effects last for one scene.

Dexterity - Escape Artist

Description:  The Scion can somehow slip out of the tightest bonds, the most cunning snares and even his opponents’ very fingers. Whether he’s tied up and left to stew in his own juices or he’s wrapped in a clinch with a snarling berserker, he rarely remains bound for long. When someone attacks his character with a successful clinch, the Scion’s player not only adds his Epic Dexterity automatic successes to his contested (Dexterity + Brawl) to escape, but he also adds an additional automatic success for every dot of Epic Dexterity his character has. Should the Scion victim’s player succeed on this resistance roll, the Scion slips free of his opponent’s grasping limbs and well out of his reach. Also, should a character be physically restrained—tied up, handcuffed, strapped down, whatever—he can slip her bonds with a divine grace that is nothing short of baffling. The player need only spend a point of Legend, and his character’s handcuffs come undone, his straitjacket’s buckles come loose, or his ropes slough off like a snake’s dried-out skin. The Scion can’t escape thus in view of witnesses, however, unless said witnesses are members of his own heroic Band or are Fatebound to his. Remote witnesses watching via camera transmission don’t hinder the effect, but even close scrutiny of such footage doesn’t reveal how the Scion escaped his bonds. He just did.

Stamina - Solipsistic Well–Being

Description:  The philosophy of solipsism holds that only the self exists. Accordingly, if a solipsist isn’t aware of something, that something doesn’t exist. With this Knack, a Scion applies this odd philosophy to damage that surprises him. For a single attack that the Scion doesn’t see, hear or otherwise perceive coming, the Scion can spend a point of Legend and a point of Willpower to completely ignore it as if it never happened (thereby suffering no damage from it). Of course the attack does actually happen—any ammunition used is spent, onlookers might be covered with the Scion’s blood, the would-be assassin might be standing right there holding a dripping knife—but such concerns are immaterial to the Scion victim. The Scion can use this Knack only once per scene.

Stamina - Body Armor

Description:  The Scion’s body is so tough that, even unarmed, he can parry close-combat attacks that would inflict lethal damage. If a berserker hopped up on Jotunblut or a thrall full of eitr tries to split the Scion’s skull with a fire ax, the Scion can take the blow on his forearm and knock it aside without serious injury.

Charisma - Boys Will Be Boys

Description:  This Knack, alternatively known as Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, is a character’s trusty Get Out of Jail Free card. When the character gets into trouble with some angry witness or authority figure—be it the police, a mortal parent, one’s long-suffering spouse, etc.—he need only shrug haplessly, grin foolishly or do likewise. (His player also spends a point of Legend.) At that, the offended party decides that whatever the character did wasn’t really that bad. The character gets a slap on the wrist, a stern warning or no punishment at all, depending on when he chooses to use it. This Knack doesn’t work on anyone with a higher Legend rating, though. Also, if the character wants to use it against someone with an equal Legend rating, his player must roll (Charisma + Presence + Legend) against a roll of the potential victim’s (Willpower + Integrity + Legend).

Charisma - Blame James (-10 Experience Points)

Prerequisite Knack: Boys Will Be Boys (Scion: God, p. 68) Some Scions are just too likable to take the heat. When the Scion invokes Boys Will Be Boys in order to calm the anger of an authority figure after a disaster, the player can choose to spend two additional Legend points and invoke Blame James as well. Then, the Scion just glances at someone else, makes a brief comment about “Well, it wasn’t my idea…” or somehow gives the impression that the narrowly-averted trouble was the result of someone else’s malfeasance. So impressive is the Scion’s demeanor that the disciplinary authority figure becomes convinced that the named individual had something to do with the event, and is in some way culpable. This Knack only functions if the use of Boys Will Be Boys also functioned; if that attempt fails, then this Knack also fails, although the Legend points are still spent.

Intelligence - Fight With Your Head

Description:  A Scion with this Knack possesses a truly superhuman sense of strategy. He anticipates an enemy’s evasions, counter-strategies and gambits with ease. He can reason around a berserker’s shock and awe or calculate a dodging foe’s final location to slip past that foe’s defenses. He can find just the right angle to slip from an opponent’s grasp, and he can see through feints and other ploys with ease. The Scion activates this Knack by selecting an opponent and spending one point of Legend. For the rest of the scene, he counteracts the automatic successes, bonus dice and similar benefits conferred by other Knacks and Boons. The total number of such bonuses counteracted cannot exceed the Scion’s automatic success from Epic Intelligence. This Knack can negate bonuses from Knacks and Boons, as well as automatic successes and bonuses from Epic Attributes themselves. It does not affect stunt bonuses or extra dice from invoking Virtues. If an opponent receives more bonuses than a Scion can counteract, the user of this Knack picks what he will negate. This Knack might seem an odd one to include in a book about the Norse and their Gods. In truth, despite their famed fury and aggression, Norse warriors valued a cunning fighter at least as much as a frenzied powerhouse.

Perception - Spatial Attunement (-10 Experience Points)

The Scion is so aware of his surroundings that his other senses (primarily those of hearing and smell) compensate for his eyes in identifying nearby objects outside his line of sight. The Scion could recognize the person sneaking up on him by that person’s telltale scent and mark exactly how far away that person is by the sound of his passing. With one quick glance around the room, the Scion could mark in his mind exactly where every wall and piece of furniture is within. Having done so, he could then navigate the room with his eyes closed, even slipping through a milling crowd of people without bumping into anyone or anything. To a certain extent, the character can perceive what’s going on around him in a 360-degree arc. Also, he suffers no penalties for fighting blind as long as he can hear or smell his opponents.

Perception - Telescopic Senses (-10 Experience Points)

A Scion’s Epic Perception allows him to hear, see and smell things from much farther away than mortal senses do. With this Knack, the Scion can not only perceive these sensations, but perceive them as if they were happening right in front of him. If he’s within the range at which the sound of someone’s voice can travel, he can not only hear that voice, but follow its conversation as clearly as if he were participating. If a sniper is crouched high up on a ridge line within his line of sight, the Scion can not only see him but also recognize him and count the notches on his rifle stock. If he’s wandering in the woods and the wind brings him the distant scent of someone’s camp fire, he can not only smell it but tell what kind of wood they’re burning, what brand of marshmallows they’re roasting and how long it’s been since they’ve had a good bath.

Wits - Monkey in the Middle (-10 Experience Points)

When multiple attackers gang up on a single opponent, their combined efforts can disconcert and intimidate even the best trained martial artist. A character with this Knack, however, keeps his cool despite how high the odds might be stacked against him. As a result, he suffers no coordinated attack penalty or onslaught penalty in combat when multiple attackers try to rush him all at once.

Wits - Don’t Read The Manual (-10 Experience Points)

The Scion sizes up a single item and then puts together an intuitive judgment of how to use it. No matter how complex the item, the Scion can grasp at least the rudiments of its functions. After spending a single point of Legend, the Scion can use the item for the rest of the scene as if the character had one dot in the appropriate Ability. The Scion could, for instance, glance at the controls of a stealth bomber, then intuitively figure out how to get it off the ground (or land it) as if she had one dot in the Control (Jet Aircraft) Ability. Similarly, a noncombatant could pick up a weapon and fight with it as if she had one dot of the Melee Ability. This Knack has no effect if the Scion already possesses the requisite skill.

Purviews & Boons (10/10 points used):

Chaos Purview - Eye Of The Storm

Dice Pool: None

Cost: 1 Legend per scene

Description:  When the Scion finds herself caught up in a chaotic situation unrelated to her -- whether she is dodging a tornado's debris or emerging from a bar to find a berserk mob rushing toward her to clash with a line of riot cops down the street -- she can activate this Boon and become an island of calm in the tumult. She is miraculously untouched in the confusion, and she remains so for as long as she does not actively involve herself. She still suffers normal environmental movement penalties, but environmental dangers such as falling rocks, stampeding beasts or thrashing rioters all fail to touch her.

Chaos Purview - Hornet's Nest

Dice Pool: Intelligence + Awareness

Cost: None

Description:  If the Boon's activation roll succeeds, the Storyteller should determine and reveal in general terms what action the Scion can take to either cause the most chaos in the scene or defuse the potential chaos inherent in the situation. The revelation should be something simple like "opening the parrot cage," "staying in the hallway," "winking at the Scion of Sif," or "calling the Scion of Ptah's cell phone." The Storyteller should explain only which action will lead to which outcome, not how.

Chaos Purview - Murphy's Law

Dice Pool: Intelligence + Awareness

Cost: 1 Willpower

Description:  Murphy's Law states that whatever can go wrong will go wrong. This Boon takes that saying and turns it into action, amplifying negative emotions between groups of people, inflicting a number of irritating but harmless annoyances such as bee stings, minor temporary malfunctions in machinery, cars splashing through puddles, miscommunications, and dropped coffee cups. Tempers soar and fights break out, and common sense is thrown to the wind unless the Boon's effects subside. This boon lasts for one scene.

A multilingual character can speak a maximum number of languages equal to their (Intelligence +Academics).  With Int 2 and Academics 2, you would know 4 languages (max) to start with. Keep in mind there are a number of different versions of Chinese.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_language

I'd suggest Mandarin, and if you wanted, another depending where your character was from.

Ah, okay, I must have misunderstood the language details then.  I was going for him knowing English and the most common of the Chinese languages (he was born in America, but had an uncle who spoke, I guess Mandarin (which I assume is the most common language?), but will have lived in China for about 5-6 years).

Thanks for the information!  I'll need to do some minor updates since only two languages are perfectly fine with me.   :-)

Okay, well, by my math and adjusted Ability points, I have worked out the details, thus resulting in a total language score:

Multilingual ([Intelligence - 2] + [Academics - 1] = 3 languages):  English, Chinese (Mandarin), & Japanese

Japanese was chosen because I couldn't really think of another language that makes sense for him to learn.

On that note, I have the finishing touches just about done using the Experience Points.  From my understanding, unfavored Epic Attributes cost 10 Exp, 10 of that I have already used.  Since I am fine with how my character's Attributes/Abilities, all that's left for my interest are seven unfavored Epic Attributes, of which I can only select four of:

Wits - Don’t Read The Manual

Wits - Instant Assessment

With a quick glance, and the expenditure of one Legend point, the Scion can size up a foe with whom he intends to join battle. This assessment comes across in terms of how the foe’s combat abilities compare to the Scion’s own. He gets a sense of whether the foe has more or fewer dots of Physical Attributes (Epic and otherwise) than he does. The same goes for their relative number of dots in Brawl, Marksmanship, Melee and Thrown, as well as their relative Join Battle dice pools and their soak totals. Also, if some power or special quality renders the foe especially vulnerable or completely invulnerable to something to which the Scion has ready access, the Scion gets a sense of that as well. What the Scion decides to do with this information is up to him. This information occurs reflexively to the Scion who uses the Knack, and he may assess as many foes automatically as he spends points of Legend.

Wits - Eternal Vigilance

imilar to the Environmental Awareness Knack (see p. 64), a Scion with this Knack is never taken by surprise by unexpected attacks. He joins battle as soon as the attack occurs, and he applies his full DV to his own defense. It doesn’t matter whether the attackers use supernatural means of concealment or not. They simply cannot catch him off guard. Unfortunately, this Knack doesn’t help the Scion’s comrades. The Scion reacts as the surprise occurs, but he does so practically subconsciously and not in time to warn anyone else. What’s more, this Knack works even if the Scion is asleep, though to a lesser extent. If the Scion is sleeping and someone tries to spring an unexpected attack, the player rolls the Scion’s full dice pool to notice the attack as he would if the character were awake (awake and didn’t have this Knack, that is). If the roll succeeds, the character wakes just in time to react to the attack, though still not in time to warn anyone else.

Oh?  What languages (other than English and Greek, considering your character's parent being Greek)?

On another note, I may be asking an obvious and rather dumb question, but would I be correct in assuming that the Epic Ability of Solipsistic Well–Being would be negated if I also took the Epic Ability, Eternal Vigilance?  If that is the case, like I think it is, then I just need to choose one of the last two choices I have left.

Oooh, now that is an interesting spread of languages!  A lot of the older ones at that.

EDIT:

My finally completed character (I think?)

- Loyalty:  **** (4/5)
- Courage:  *** (3/5)
- Intellect:  * (1/5)

- 2 Points to increase Athletics to 4
- 3 Points to increase Brawl to 5
- 2 Point to increase Fortitude to 5

Experience Points (50/50 points used):

Finishing Touches:

Personality:  Alex has lived a rather chaotic life considering that he lost his mother before he could remember her, thus leaving him to be raised by his uncle.  Despite his uncle's best efforts, Alex quickly became his neighborhood's biggest troublemaker.  While running wild on the streets, he learned that sometimes rules needed to be bent, even broken.  However, after he returned to China with his Uncle, he also learned the importance of loyalty and courage above all.  Despite the attempts to calm his rather combative nature, Alex has never been able to turn down a good fight.  His time on American Chinatown streets also gave him a rebellious outlook, but also gifted him the skills to get out of trouble with ease and shift blame on someone else.  Though he can and will tell the truth, he has found that lies can help in getting out of trouble if done correctly.  Overall, Alex is a good-natured guy with a good heart, but he's no saint.

Background:  Though Alex's mother was born in China, she moved to America to further her career as a nurse.  It was during these few years that she met someone and, a few months later, Alex was born.  Unfortunately, there was a hospital fire when he was just a year old and she was one of the casualties.  Luckily for him, her best friend had traveled to America just a few months before the fire where she declared him to be his godfather.  Of course, he was a bit older than she was, but after her death, he took young Alex in.

Under the watchful eye of Uncle Zhen Shen, Alex was raised as best his uncle could do, training him in basic martial arts when he came of age and teaching him a few languages that are common.  Still, it was much trouble for his uncle since Alex, while he loved training in the various forms of martial arts, he also got into trouble more often than not.  He joined a small group of troublemakers that ranged from ages 10-13 and often provided distractions while the others did their mischief.  It was on the streets that Alex learned that he was quite good at getting out of trouble Scott free.  So, for the next six years, until the age of 16, Alex worked his way up through the group to become the second in command.

Unfortunately, his uncle had had enough of Alex's antics by that time and decided to close down his martial arts gym and take Alex back home to China and teach him discipline.  To say that the sudden move was taken in stride was an understatement, but it was needless to say that the period of time it took to get used to his uncle's home was a few months.  Eventually, the more peaceful mountain town's clean air and simpler life got to him.  It was at that point that Alex's uncle found his chance to teach him the true way to martial arts and try to get him to stop being trouble.

While his uncle's latter goal didn't even work the slightest, the solitude and daily training by his uncle allowed Alex to become a much better martial artist.  For the next five years, trained from the early morning and late night quickly hardened his skills, sharpened his reflexes, and toughened his body.  Other skills he learned were more mundane when compared to the arts, but were useful nonetheless.  So, he learned some basic academics, marksmanship (with the bow for the most part), and medicine.  A few of his lessons were, oddly enough, occult in nature, learning of spirits and gods from history and religion.  Soon after his 23rd birthday, his uncle let him know that Alex was now as capable as could be taught and suggested that he perhaps learn further on his own.

Alex left soon after that to think about what that meant.  While out and about, he visited a small bar to relax and try to figure out what he should do next.  Unfortunately, that night happened to be the night that his entire world changed.  It was that night that some 'pretty boy' was having a few two many drinks.  Alex didn't know who he was, other than the fact that he wasn't Chinese and was making a rather large scene.  With a sigh, he stood up and tried to lead the guy out when he swung at him!  The conflict lasted less than a minute as Alex dodged with ease and knocked the guy to the ground with a snap, the guy's wrist breaking beneath his weight.  The guy slowly stood and wobbled out muttering something about watching his back.  Shaking his head, Alex returned to his uncle's home and slept for the night.

It was that morning when Alex was roughly woken up by his uncle and told that someone was here to meet him.  The surprise and sternness in his uncle's voice had him almost leap from bed and follow him where a rather handsome Chinese fellow with a huge grin on his face met him.  The first surprise that morning was his uncle introducing the man as both of their fathers.  If he wasn't already stunned, he was even moreso stunned when he found the man was actually Sun Wukong!  As the morning, afternoon, and evening went by, Alex leaned that the reason Sun Wukong had appeared just now was because he had broken the wrist of a child of Hermes last night and Hermes wasn't pleased at all.  Luckily, Sun Wukong managed to smooth things over, but now that Alex was brought to his attention, he was obliged to meet him.

As it was, the smoothing out between the Greek God, Hermes, and Sun Wukong was that Alex help the other two children of his do their task since he had just taken the third member of the group out for a while.  Luckily for him, Sun Wukong wasn't going to send Alex off without some gifts, thus giving Alex a magical staff and a headband that gifted him with a number of abilities.  It wasn't much, but it was enough for Alex, who had trained with staffs to the point of mastery.  The fact that the staff could change into a Guan Dao was only a bonus!  Before his newly found father left, he was also told the location of the three children of Hermes.

Upon finding the Hermes siblings, including the one with a broken wrist, he was informed that he was going to take the place of their main melee focused fighter while they work their way to someone who has been using spirits to cause trouble and murder.  The task at hand was difficult, but they somehow managed to defeat the wayward scion of Hermes who had taken the dark path.  It wasn't a pretty thing to do, but it had to be done.  The fact that Alex actually saved one of the Hermes kids from death, risking his own life in the process, was honorable and noble enough that, at the end, Hermes himself tossed a pair of shoes his way as a gift of thanks, much to the guy with the broken arm's distaste.

As a last note, Hermes gave a little advice that he had heard over his sources.  It was apparently in Alex's destiny to join another group of Scions.  He would know who and where they were located.  After that cryptic note, Hermes left and his children parted ways with Alex, leaving him to figure out what the meaning of that was....

Alright, it has taken a bit of mental blood, sweat, and tears, but I have finally managed to complete my character!  If anyone has thoughts, opinions, and/or criticisms, let me know!  I hope he'll fit well with the other characters!   ;D

Oh, on the subject of languages, is modern Irish Gaelic close enough to what creatures like the Aes Sidhe speak that I can get along fine with them? Or do I need something like Primitive Irish or Old Irish as a separate language?
If you're such an iconoclast, where were you when we trashed Constantinople?

Oooh, now that is an interesting spread of languages!  A lot of the older ones at that.

EDIT:

My finally completed character (I think?)

Virtues (5/5 points used):

- Loyalty:  **** (4/5)
- Courage:  *** (3/5)
- Intellect:  * (1/5)
- Harmony:  * (1/5

Bonus Points (15/15 points used):

- 5 Points used to allow the Magic Staff to change sizes, can hit spirits, and add Legend Dice to Staff/Guan Dao hits.
- 1 Point used to cover the last point required for Wind's Freedom.
- 2 Points to increase Athletics to 4
- 3 Points to increase Brawl to 5
- 2 Point to increase Fortitude to 5
- 2 Points to increase Melee to 5

Experience Points (50/50 points used):

- 10 Experience Points spent on the Epic Attribute (Charisma):  Blame James
- 10 Experience Points spent on the Epic Attribute (Perception):  Spatial Attunement
- 10 Experience Points spent on the Epic Attribute (Perception):  Telescopic Senses
- 10 Experience Points spent on the Epic Attribute (Wits):  Monkey in the Middle
- 10 Experience Points spent on the Epic Attribute (Wits):  Don’t Read The Manual

I hope he'll fit well with the other characters!   ;D

Congrats! Hopefully I'll finish mine today too.

Correct

If we wanted to be factual, any language from hundreds of years ago likely bears little resemblence to the modern version, given how languages change over time.

However, *waves hand* magic. You'll be able to understand them, and them you.

Correct.
Alright, that's about what I figured.  Went ahead with Monkey in the Middle and Don’t Read The Manual for Wits.  At the very least, Alex could try to fly a plane or land one if worst came to worst!

That said, I think I am done creating my character.  Do we need to PM the completed result?  Or post them here for a final verdict?

Probably easiest for me if you PM me the final draft. That way I won't miss it in the thread.

I have a totally random question:  How many dots in the Ability of Larceny would I need to be fairly skilled at breaking-and-entering, pickpocketing, concealment, and general theft, but also not have a record/rap sheet/jail time (my logic for no record/rap sheet/jail time comes from the fact that Alex is really good at weaseling out of blame and blaming others, so its mainly slaps on the wrist)?

If I remember correctly, 2 would be considered an average ability, 3 professional, and 5 world class.

I'd say you would probably want about 3-4.

Alright, I think I'll need to move a few dots around because I had recently realized that in order for Alex to be how he is, he does need skill at pickpocketing, picking locks, and the like, but extremely good at getting out of trouble to the point of not having a rap sheet.

I'll send an updated PM with my character in a couple of minutes, Hairy.  This should be the last change I have.
