Some interesting thoughts on the history of political alignment in the USA

I'm a subscriber to History News Network's emails (should be no surprise there!), and I saw this headline today. It intrigued me immediately. I'm not saying that I either agree or disagree with the conclusion, but it brings up some very interesting elements of politics and rhetoric: the idea of 'signs of the times' and of the 'hinge factor' (where random, unexpected events have an unforeseeable impact).

The Democratic Party, enemy of the working man: that was one of the most important turning points in American political history.

I think most people now see government in general as the enemy of the working man. The Repubs have their hands into oil and fuck you at the pump in small chunks... then the Dems have their hands in so many social programs that they fuck you all at once at tax time.

That could just be because I live in Massachusetts and we hate everyone whose last name isn't Kennedy, though.
