You'll have to excuse those of us who have only seen the anime and go "huh?"   (like me)  ;)

I'm rather flexible with just about everything suggested, except I'd like to have all the pcs be from the same village.

indarkestknight

For those of you who haven't read that far in the manga (truthfully, neither have I, but I've heard enough to get a good general idea), wikipedia might be useful here.  ;) Especially the lists of techniques they have for each character.

Also, gentlement, we have before us a dillemma: do you want to work as a squad, initially?

Probably best that way.  There's no particular reason we'd need to adhere to the squad-of-three pattern.  Pursuant to this point, it's probably best if we have general areas of skill that complement each other well -- anyone have input on what they're likely to specialize in?  (If nothing else, different areas of focus makes freeform a lot easier to resolve.)

What's the male/female balance in terms of characters (given that we all are, in fact, gentlemen)?

Haven't decided yet.  If the rest of the group is heavily weighted one way or the other, I can balance.

Do you even know each other at the start?

If we're all Chunin from the same village, I think it's almost certain that we would, even if we're only newly organized as a squad.

Are you from different villages?

I'd vote no.  Ninja from different villages are going to have all kinds of friction.

It depends on the reason. The characters may be missing nin, or simply a task force from a variety of the governments- depending on what sort of stories we're planning on doing. God knows, though, even in one village there's a great enough amount of diversity- even assuming that the Hidden Leaf has one of the most varied compositions of ninjas, there's dozens of specialties that they have. I'd definitely be interested in such a game, by the way- Either Freeform or system, though I do enjoy systems just because they make combat a lot easier.

And hey, I could get my head around Rifts- I think I can deal with a few new charm trees

>.>

For reference...
Leaf: Shadow jutsu, binding another's shadow. The Sharingan, capable of copying another's movements perfectly, and at higher levels, some really silly shit. Size changing, which usually burns massive amounts of calories. Mind switching- slow, and leaves them somewhat vulnerable, but useful for spying. Byakugan, perfect vision, apparently in distances of hundreds of meters in the stronger users, and high control over their own chakra. At least one character is incapable of molding his own chakra, but has compensated by becoming utterly, frighteningly powerful at Taijutsu- hand to hand combat. Bugs. Dogs. And a rare ability to use Wood jutsu, combining Earth and Water abilities. Lots of possibilities obvious.

Sand: Puppeteers, who tend to fight through proxy, and a high level of control over wind.

Water: People with mother fucking huge swords, and little to no regard for human life.

And in general: Demon-bonded, though they might be a bit overpowered compared to the others, Medical ninjas, etcetera, etcetera.

Alright, gentlemen... Here's the general profile that I'm looking for:

Name:

History:

Personality:

Physical Description (picture optional):

Known Ninjutsu:

Known Genjutsu:

Known Taijutsu:

Known Summoning Jutsu:

Known Kekkei Genkai:

Miscellaneous (Anything you want to include that wouldn't normally be covered in the above, for example, Neji's cursed seal, or precise physical measurements, if you're into that thing):

Obviously, I don't expect any character to have all of the types of Jutsu filled in, or even more than two or three, in most cases. Description of the jutsu listed should go under the appropriate jutsu category, if it isn't covered in the anime/manga.

One I've received at least two profiles, I'll request the board be opened. Do you know where you want to put the game?

Jefepato

We can put it in Light for all I care, but I have no objection if there's a compelling reason why someone would prefer BatL.

By the way, can we agree on a village of origin (or at least, a village around which the stage will be set, even if some decide to play visitors/emissaries from others)?  I tend to think the Leaf is most appropriate, since it seems to have more solidarity and a wider variety of abilities.

GB, may we assume that a young-adult chunin will know a pretty good variety of jutsu (albeit mostly focused in his area(s) of specialization)?

indarkestknight

Yeah. I'm thinking somewhere between five and seven total specialized jutsu by this stage, with a little more than half of those learned from a certain discipline, and perhaps one or two personal techniques (Chidori, Rasengan, Hinata's tech, etc.)

And pretty much all ninja (who aren't Rock Lee) have the standard array of substitution, clone, and transformation jutsus, plus the basic movement-related tricks like walking up walls and covering long distances in leaps and bounds?

I'm currently thinking of playing a female character, probably some sort of taijutsu specialist, but I need to hit up Wikipedia and refamiliarize myself with all the oddities of the setting.

Ajoxer

To be fair, Rock Lee probably could have kicked anyone in the Chuunin Exam's ass, barring Orochimaru and Gaara. Let's face it, the guy was a badass. Poor bastard always ends up as a jobber.

Correct. Though Rock Lee-types, I'd imagine, would be capable of the movement-based types, too.

Probably... But look where going up against Gaara got him.

I'd think so (although I don't know if Lee is really a "type" or if his disorder is unique to him).  Lee still has chakra, he just can't use it for ninjutsu or genjutsu -- and he more than keeps up with his team in overland travel.

Rin

Hmm..

Stil open for new players, or do you have all you want? :)

Ajoxer

Hmmmm... I'm still tossing around ideas... What village are we thinking of coming from? Leaf has more established ideas, so it depends on how much we want to play it by ear.

The Leaf Village's major clans may be established, but there's still a lot of ninja who don't appear to be from any of them, and no particular reason to believe that the series has shown us every clan in town.  You can probably still do almost whatever you want.

Besides, Leaf ninja seem to be far less bastardly towards each other.

Dumb question: Is there a somewhat complete list available on wiki or do I have to look somewhere else?

Yah!  I'm looking to play a member of the Hyuuga clan myself.

(Edited to add link) http://www.leafninja.com/

Rin

I think I might try an Uchiha, me.

Question! All those bandages and fishnet the Ninja seem to wear.. Is there a purpose for that, or is it just gratuitous bondage fetish gear?

Somehow I wouldn't be surprised if it was gratuitous bondage fetish gear....

Jefepato

Everybody loves weird optical bloodlines, it seems.

It hardly looks like bondage fetish gear to me, but there doesn't seem to be any purpose (beyond demonstrating that Naruto is an idiot for being a ninja who wears bright orange).

The creators of the manga certainly do.

And I'm not sure what all that stuff. Fetish gear is the only way I can explain it to myself.

*shrugs* I don't know about you guys, but I certainly don't mind the bandages...

Jefepato's already gotten his character in, so I just need one more before I can open up a board, gents...

Hunter

I'm working on it.  Give me half an hour or so.
