JUSTICE LEAGUE: FOUNDING

Overview

Welcome to Justice League: Founding, a free-form group game centred around an alternative DC universe. In this world until the year of 2017 the heroes of earth have managed to keep it safe from danger mostly operating alone. While many have met they have yet to meet a great enough to force to force them to form any kind of organised team. Until now. Doctor Fate set things in motion after experiencing dark visions of a burning, apocalyptic wasteland across earth. Upon meeting with any other clairvoyants he could find he soon discovered many of them were sharing these experiences and set about working to form the best defence he could, bringing together the mightiest of earth's heroes. As he preferred to take a back seat he quickly handed over leadership and recruitment to others and returned to investigating his visions. The activity of an assortment of villains has seemingly begun to flare up and while Fate isn't sure if they're what's causing his visions they at least seem to be a good place to start testing the newborn Justice League.

For now this thread will serve as an interest check. If enough is there to get at least the founding members then I will get recruitment started and put up a character sheet template. As a note smut is not going to feature in the main story threads of this game at all, but players are welcome to start 1x1's between characters if they would like. Feel free to post your interest in any particular canon characters or ask any questions either here or via PM.

The Plot so far

Heroes have, for the longest time, managed to keep humanity safe from villainy for decades almost always operating alone. Until recently when in a shocking turn of events Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold and Black Manta ambushed The Flash and almost killed him, striking fear into the hearts of the people who saw their protector so badly injured. While Dr. Fate started the wheels of the Justice League turning for other, deeper, reasons publicly they are heroes uniting to combat the villains who are now working together. Fate himself remains in the background doing his best to research, and keeping to privacy. He did make sure the Watchtower was rapidly constructed using a combination of the vast funding the team could draw on and their powers which could be utilised to aid building it, although he mostly keeps to The Tower of Fate, primarily leaving to check on the visions other magic users have experienced.

Now two weeks in to getting used to their new allies the heroes are starting to pull together a little, despite some of the tension and friction that can be so hard to avoid with such varied and powerful beings. The heroes have begun sparring and practicing together, socialising and running group training exercises to learn how one another operate. While they've not fought crime all at once yet they've operated in small groups a few times and learnt just how powerful their forces combined are. Now, as they wait in the Watchtower, two blaring alerts have come in at once. One of an unknown destructive machine causing chaos in Metropolis and the other of two monstrous hulking animal-like figures rampaging through the streets of Gotham.

Important NPC's

Dr. Fate - One of the greatest sorcerors on earth Doctor Fate was the first of several clairvoyants to become plagued with visions of a dark, tortured future. First finding Martian Manhunter and requesting he gather any and all of Earth's greatest heroes and work on forging them into an alliance, and then seeking out other powerful magic users to learn more about these visions. Given his accuracy in the past he believes the only option is to prepare for an inevitable approaching darkness. He has become something of a recluse and while friendly can seem sometimes scatter-brained or manic due to his obsession with preparing and investigating. He rarely actively helps the team but most have been told the whole truth and realise that what he's working on understanding could save humanity.

Captain Atom - Sometimes derogatorily termed 'The Government's pet superman' Captain Atom is the epitome of a loyal soldier. When in the line of duty he follows the United State's orders without pause or question. He is often seen aiding the U.S military or protecting the state's assets, although as of yet he has never been seen crossing moral lines and is a figure of hope to the people, particularly those with faith in their leadership. He has occasionally come into conflict with heroes, demanding custody of those they've arrested so as to turn them over to the state or secret services while some heroes may prefer to hand them over to local law enforcement or at least let them have a lawyer and see a judge. He has a strong moral code and there are lines he will not cross, but above all he firmly believes in duty.

Martian Manhunter - Something of a mentor figure to various superheroes he is one of the oldest beings on earth, his age being measured in millennia rather than decades. He prefers to remain in the background and aid others in achieving potential rather than fighting himself, although due to his elusive nature he's often known to operate in the more impoverished parts of the world blending in and being less associated with America interfering than some other heroes can be. He was utilised by Doctor Fate to seek out some of the early members of the Justice League due to his telepathy, concealment, speed and knowledge of heroes. As of now he helps the league with logistics, mentoring and recruitment but will often claim to not be a fighter if asked why he doesn't call himself a full member.

The Flash - The fastest man alive and a prominent hero across much of the world. A rare hero in that he could stop crimes across the country in a matter of seconds, and always maintained an upbeat, positive image while doing so. He was known well for his positive, if sometimes cocky, public image. He would have been one of the first to sign up to the League had it's founding not been so tied to his injuries. While Fate wanted to form it already combating teaming up heroes was a perfect public reason to bring the team together. After his run-in with three highly capable villains at once who ambushed and outnumbered him The Flash has spent two weeks recovering, now moved to the safety of the Watchtower. Normally he would have healed long ago, but after Captain Cold caused Flash to slide and lose concentration Grodd managed to telepathically halt him, giving Black Manta the perfect opportunity to hit him with a highly neurotoxic weapon. Initially designed to bring down Aquaman the harpoon caused severe trauma and is still giving The Flash's accelerated healing a challenge. It was only the intervention of Dr. Fate's first few recruits that saved his life.

Lex Luthor - The billionaire CEO of one of the largest companies on earth, LexCorp, there's few avenues of business he doesn't lead the market in. Operating from a LexCorp tower in Metropolis, a titan of a skyscraper that dominates even Metropolis's skyline, the business is a success story everywhere. Favouring technology Lex almost has a monopoly on arms manufacturing, computing and renewable energy, all while spearheading the funding of privatised journy's to space. Publicly he is calm, cool and collected regardless of anything thrown his way. He has a personal hand in many projects and holds several degrees and two Nobel Prizes in Theoretical Physics for his work regarding alien life on earth's implications on the laws we thought governed reality and one for Economics after a paper on building a business from scratch while maintaining moral standards from day one. He also holds several degrees and people who work with him call him almost unnervingly genius. He's considered to be an expert and dealing with the press and any publicity always spins his way in the end. While some call him cold he gives a great deal to charity, supports U.S troops and is generally loved. His most recent venture was buying real estate and renting it cheaply as a goodwill gesture to the impoverished. There are a few rumours of connections to crime and shady dealings, but he is so well-loved and respected that printing any expose without overwhelming evidence would be career suicide, not to mention the legal implications his veritable army of lawyers could cause.

Black Adam - A hulking figure who can often be seen at the side of Lex Luthor, Adam is a prominent hero. To the uninitiated he could appear to be Luthor's bodyguard, but that's far from the truth. While he is a figure of incredible power who has been known to work as a hero and to personally utilise his powers to defend some of Lex's military assets while they're tested at war he is closer to a friend than anything. The superhero seemingly came from nowhere, and fairly recently, and rose to prominence after Lex's vast funds marketed him as America's greatest hero, and the first real 'Professional' superhero. In one swoop stating his excellence while calling other heroes amateurs in the field. He soon lived up to the name, defeating a variety of villains as well as fighting America's enemies overseas. The two are sometimes implied by reporters to be a brains and muscle duo, but it's plain to see in an interview that Adam is a wise, intelligent man who's own collected and controlled demeanor quickly makes clear why he's such good friends with Lex.

The Founding Members

These will be the player characters. The initial few Dr. Fate reached out to and those they could recruit in short order. Any members of the Justice League throughout the years will be welcome with the exception of villains turned heroes, which may be allowed but will be done on a case by case basis. I will include a list of potential characters. As I would like to have the core members down I will only be approving canon characters until we have at least seven 'Founders' to go with. Players will be allowed one founder each at most and may be allowed more player characters down the line. I will be taking Dr. Fate, Captain Atom and Martian Manhunter as NPC's. If any of the really big names (Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg) aren't taken they'll likely feature as NPC's on some level, although I would much prefer them to be taken by players. Please note the list below includes characters that will definitely be welcome but not all DC universe characters I will allow, if you want to play someone who's not listed PM me or post in the recruitment thread. Characters may also have their gender or sexuality changed.

I'll consider a Green Lantern if it can be either the early Green Lantern version (can't affect wood) or the new version well modern take and well gender can be a woman its not an issue with a Lantern. I always like them and when one makes up their own oath more common with aliens or the original comic book Green Lantern. Note the former is not as powerful in some ways as a regular Green Lantern and their was no Corps of them but the Earth one was grandfathered in as a dedicated Earth Green Lantern since they were stuck there unless they get a spaceship or something. Okay I'm such a geek but I like the first one if Sinestro shows up she can hit him and hurt him her ring can hit yellow and that color frequency without an issue unless he starts using wood on her.

Both options have benefits the first she can tell the mighty Corps she protects Earth, and doesn't answer to the Guardians, but fights evil in her way. The latter well is a cop and might be off anywhere defending her sector but that doesn't appeal to me as much.

Awesome. Definitely welcome. Of course on this site he comes with avoiding any age-related concerns but I'm sure you've got a workaround for that figured out. I should've mentioned and I'll say in the CS section but even Billy will need to be 18+ for this game.

I think this sounds good either way. A female green lantern based on an earlier or newer version would be fine. As for power levels I'm not too worried about that. Certainly doesn't have to effect wood that's not an issue. As to the status of the corps they're definitely around although they're unlikely to feature much and probably mostly leave earth alone at the moment. We can work out specifics once I've got a CS up, or you can PM me any questions.

Talked it over with Sun a bit in PM (Quick I know!) going with Variant (sort of a female Cyborg) instead of Cyborg, perhaps at his recommendation as he's busy and knows someone with his skill set would be of use.

All the interest so far's been quick. Definitely looking like this game will go ahead so I'll probably sort out the CS template later or tomorrow.

I don't want you to lose a character or have issues with formatting I just intend to follow my own rules. The easiest alternative options to me would be sending the character sheet to yourself via PM or starting a world building thread for character development which you could move it to.

It somewhat depends on the players but I think closer to the gritty end, personally. However that's without making every character an edgy troubled clone. Heroes are allowed to be genuinely just 'Good' without some dark past/issues. But there'll probably be the odd fairly violent scene.

Would an alternate Rorschach joining Justice League's universe instead of Watchmen's be possible, kinda like the Question but more Rorschach-ish?
