Hi everyone! :D This is pretty off-topic, but I thought it would be fun for us to discuss or recommend our favorite perfumes, colognes, and fragrances, and why we like them.

I myself adore perfume, and I rarely leave the house without a little spritz of something. My favorite fragrance groups are florals, spices, and sweet scents such as vanilla. A rich "ambery" scent is a favorite too. Unfortunately, many florals and other scents turn into a "baby powderish" smell on my skin, so I have to be careful to test before I buy.

Which perfume or scent I wear depends on my mood and what I'll be doing that day, but here are a few of my favorites:

Bath & Body Work's Sensual Amber: I like to use this as a casual scent, and wear it most often during the summer. It has a lovely warm, golden glow about it, as well as a bit of fruitiness which ups the flirtatious factor. I've had boyfriends who couldn't get enough of it.

Bath & Body Work's Moonlit Path: I used to absolutely love this scent! It was a lovely, cool, lavendery floral which really did remind me of a moonlit night. Utterly feminine and romantic. Unfortunately, last time I bought a bottle of it, it didn't produce the same results on my skin, and I suspect they changed the formula. :-(

Dior's Miss Dior Eau de Parfum: I love this scent, and usually save it for a special or specially romantic occasion. It's a romantic floral with a touch of feisty spice. It's also good for a sensual mood, so it's an all-around winner to me!

TokyoMilk's Dead Sexy (#6): Just like the name says, this scent is dead sexy. A must have if you're in the seductive mood! It's exotic, warm, spicy, yet subtle and alluring, with just enough sweetness to make it sensually romantic. If you don't have it, get it! :D

TokyoMilk's Let Them Eat Cake (#11): This is my all-time favorite "romantic cuddling scent." It's warm and sweet, but not too sweet, and is, in my opinion, a perfect "girlfriend" fragrance. A few of my boyfriends and men friends would agree!

TokyoMilk's Kabuki (#9): From the description alone (sugared grapefruit, lychee, and sweet jasmine), I wasn't sure if this scent was for me, but one sniff made me fall in love. It bursts with ripe, juicy sweetness, as full of life as it is flirty. I would consider this an every day scent, and while it most resembles a summer fragrance, I find that wearing it in winter is a nice pick-me-up from the cold, cloudy-skied days.

I have a difficult time with perfumes and fragrances. Anything strong will make me sneeze (I really have a hard time walking through Bath & Body Works or the fragrance section at department stores without sneezing at least once, or feeling like I'm about to sneeze), anything too sweet makes me want to gag, and some scents I just can't stand the smell of. I don't really have much opportunity to wear scents (I'm not going to inflict it on my coworkers, and when I was in college, I was definitely conscious of the fact that some people were sensitive to even the slightest whiff, so I avoided wearing fragrances to most social gatherings), so it's really only something I put on during special occasions.

However, I am a huge fan of BPAL (Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab), and have had the pleasure of trying several of their imps to see which scents blend well with my skin and my body's chemistry. I also highly support that their products are vegan, and they support local renewable energy initiatives, as well as other charities and companies with causes that I also agree with. They're also super creative with their scents. :-)

My favorite scents from BPAL:

Elf (The RPG Series): Pale golden musk, honeycomb, amber, parma violet, hawthorne bark, aspen leaf, forest lily, life everlasting, white moss, and a hint of wild berry.

The Butterfly (The Last Unicorn): Fuzzy brown tonka bean, golden amber, bergamot, and petitgrain.

Hi Caeli! :D I know what you mean. Walking through the perfume section of a department store can really be overwhelming. :-X I use to have a lot of trouble breathing around strong perfume when I was young, but I seem to have outgrown it for the most part. :-)

I'm glad you respect your co-workers enough not to use scents that bother them. :-) None of my co-workers seem to have a problem with perfumes, but I try not to wear anything strong to work just in case.

I've heard a lot of good things about BPAL, and the scents you've described sound delicious! :D I love their gothic literature themes! I've ordered a few Imp's Ears (samples) from them before, but unfortunately a lot of them turn to baby powder on my skin. :-( However I love Eclipse, and I'm very tempted to try Snake Oil. :-)

I actually had the wonderful opportunity of being able to test out multiple scents at the only brick-and-mortar store that they retail their products at. It was... overwhelming but amazing at the same time. xD

It was interesting because some of the scents smelled lovely whiffed from the bottle, but on my skin, they took on a different scent, sometimes unpleasant, sometimes not. I knew this would happen, of course, since the ingredients do react different with every person's skin, so it was really nice to be able to try them out and smell them on me before purchasing.

I got this cologne for my SO. :-)

It's not specifically because I "respect my coworkers enough" (I do respect my coworkers, but... I don't know, something about the phrasing is off) - it's really more of a recipricoal thing. I would be seriously discomfited and inconvenienced if someone wore a product that made me want to sneeze and made me want to gag the whole day, and sometimes it's not easy to tell someone that their personal skin product/fragrance choice is... well, sneeze-inducing.

Well, I don't buy from Avon generally, since most of my other skin care products are with other companies (Dermalogica, Bare Escentuals, etc.). I only got this specific cologne because it was available only at Avon at the time, not the other way around. I think it's also available from Amazon now, so if the SO needs another, I'll probably get it from Amazon.

Wow, I would love to do that someday! :D I didn't realize they had a physical store! :o There are so many of their scents that I would love to try before buying. As you said, each perfume reacts differently to each person's skin chemistry, and one never knows what a scent will smell like until they have actually tried it. That's why I try not to buy scents online unless it just sounds too good to resist.

Ooo, that sounds lovely. :D Patrick Dempsey is sexy, and I love subtle spicy colognes. Two years ago I had a boyfriend who used to wear a single note cologne of sandalwood. You could barely pry me off him! ;D We're still friends and he lets me have a whiff now and then. ;)

The physical store isn't for Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab - they just happen to sell BPAL scents. Although, I do believe they have a retail store that opens during their Lunacy events.

Dark Delicacies, in Burbank, CA, carries a scent that we made for their store -- appropriately named "Dark Delicacies," as well as exclusive series such as The Northanger Abbey Novels, The Summer Blockbuster Series and Great Duets.

Serephino

My favorite scent is J'adore by Dior.  Oh, if only it wasn't so expensive!  I like scents that are sweet and spicy, and a light musk.  I love Moonlight Path from Bath and Body Works too.  I'm also really liking Dark Kiss.

Lilias

The only signature fragrances I've loved, both in the bottle and on my skin, are Happy by Clinique and CK1 by Calvin Klein.

In practice, and for everyday use, I rely on body mists from The Body Shop. I come back to White Musk now and again, but Aqua Lily was a favourite as well, while it lasted.

One of these days, I'm going to walk into my local Lush branch and get both their scent sampler packs. >_<

My cologne has been the same my dad has worn for years, It is Wild Country, I think it is Avon. I recall my mom always giving me a gift set every year when I was younger (at the time, either she sold Avon or one of my aunts).

Deodorant has always been Old Spice- I never joined that Axe movement, I always felt it was for doucebags. XD

I've never tried J'adore before, but I've heard good things about it! :-) And yes, a light musk is always good. Dark Kiss is another I haven't tried, so I'll have to sample it next time I'm in BBW. ;D

I love it when I can get samples of perfumes. That way I can test it out without having to buy the whole bottle. I hate buying a bottle of perfume only to discover that I hate it. >:(

Old Spice is good, though it can sometimes make men with sensitive skin break out into a rash. As with all scented products, proceed with caution! :-)

I haven't sniffed enough Axe products to know if I like them or not, but I find their commercials annoying. It's always "wear this: get women." True, a lot of male body products make the same assertion, but at least they're more subtle about it. ::)

When I was a penniless student, Body Shop branches were a kind of therapy - when I had the blues, I just had to pop into one (I was lucky enough to have two within easy distance from home) and my spirits would lift almost automatically. It's so colourful and fragrant that I simply can't help feeling well. Go around for half an hour sniffing things, repeat as often as necessary. ;)

As for men's fragrances... spousal unit wears Old Spice deodorant and the sandalwood line from Crabtree & Evelyn (when we can find them), and I wouldn't have it any other way. :-)

I love natural fragrances, but I don't really care much for cologne or a wide variety of perfume. In my opinion, much of it smells very harsh, artificial, and scarcely at all enticing. I'm not sure if this is on topic by the thread's logic, but what strikes me as a potent and attractive smell, possibly through association, is wood smoke. It can cling to one and enhance how they smell, in a somewhat primal way. :-[
gone for more spontaneous surroundings. bye to those that showed interest.

Martee

Many years ago I had a customer who always smelled amazing; she said she wore java patchouli oil. It must have worked in a particular way with her specific body chemistry, because I have never found a patchouli of any kind that smelled the same. What a pity, she always smelled fantastic.

The only perfume I wear anymore is Paul Sebastian's Design. It's very much a love-it-or-hate-it fragrance, I've found, but I always get compliments on it. I love getting in my car or putting on a coat and catching the faint lingering scent.

Status as of March 5th: In like a lion - only one response outstanding

I have Djinn and Incubus as well as Satyr and Iago as imps.  I haven't found many scents that I would consider masculine except for the ones.  I want to sample Orc and Evil from the RPG collection.

I think they could probably go either way, the ones I listed, but they aren't really floral or have sort of a sweet smell to them.  Djinn smells like burning cedar.  Incubus smells oddly like celery seed and has sage in it.  I'm not sure what Satyr has in it but it specifically says it is a 'masculine' scent on the website, and Iago smells like old leather.

I'm not a huge fan of floral or sweet scents (though I do have one or two that I'm partial to). But burning cedar! :) That's a wonderful scent.

Can't go wrong with leather, I say! ;)

I've been hoping that someone would post their opinions about BPAL's more masculine scents! :D Have you ever tried "Bluebeard", "Hades", or "Villain"? I'd love to hear someone's thoughts on them. :-)

I've had bad luck with BPAL's more floral-based scents, but I'm thinking of getting Imp's Ears of "Seraglio", "Snake Oil", "Haunted", "Scherezade", "Umbra", "Persephone", "Bard", "Cleric", and "Florence". Has anyone tried any of these? :-)
