Naruto D20: Interest Check (GM Found)

 I'm interested in playing in a Naruto D20 game, preferably starting at mid (8-10) level with the option of starting off towards the Sage PrC.

I also have a few other requests for any potential GMs:

- The players use the True Ninja alternate character rules
- The setting be something generic and open, rather than the canon setting
- Options of other races besides human be available, such as Moreau from D20 Modern.

When we get a GM, I will update this post.

I'd be interested and willing to learn the system as well. I tried to learn it once, but gave up on it because I got super busy. Though I have quite enough free time now, so I'm all ears.

I was thinking an Uchiha but those are pretty much extinct. So a Nara or an Hyuga

Like I said, I would prefer a generic setting. So it could be likely that any sharingan users could be alive.

I don't think I would have any bloodline for my character. Depending on which one I go with, it wouldn't fit too well.

As far as the system, I've been playing ND20 for years and have run several games of my own. I know the system pretty well and would be glad to help someone set up a character.

I know the system pretty well, and I've been trying to start a group of players in E... if you still need a GM. :P

Already running one game. I'd be more than willing to whip up a campaign for anyone interested.

I know it isn't exactly 'generic'.... but what does everyone think of a campaign set in the ancient era that hasn't really been elaborated on? IE: No villages, but rather groups of mercenary-like Clans wandering around, taking jobs and making/breaking alliances at the drop of a hat. But if we're maintaining consistency here, all the players would probably have to either be from the same Clan (IE: Uchiha, Hyuuga, Senju, Ect.) OR... more interestingly ( ;) ), be a group of renegades from various origins.

Aside from that, there's a much more recognizable time frame such as a few years before the series. Does anyone have a preference for the particular village or rather something like the above; a band of missing-nin or otherwise unaffiliated ninja...

I like the ancient era idea.... not sure if you are on the ND20 forums, but I have a homebrew village that would work for my character.

I was actually thinking about stepping up if no one else did :p I've got a large number of game ideas that usually don't go far.

Going off of the idea of setting the game in Ancient Era, I think the easiest thing would be to have everyone be from different clans as renegade ninja. I know I don't plan on either character of mine to have a bloodline or be associated with a clan (unless I can use my homebrew one, the Fuuryuu and the Konpeki Shitai bloodline).

Two character ideas are currently a female livewire or male swordsman-going-sage. Either one could work, and I have homebrew jutsu ideas for both.

What sort of clan or organization is this anyways? I'll leave it up to you, although I think for this setting- some groups might not be 'clans' per se, but would function as such... like the Seven Swordsmen were a group of mercenaries before joining the Mist, and probably exist in some form or another during this era.

So that'd be +5 unless you have a bloodline or somesuch. :P

I just realized... the overwhelming majority of my Naruto characters are female not just because of the possibility for fanservice and sexiness.... but also because the original Naruto took nearly 100 chapters for a kunoichi to fight a man and actually end up not sucking. >:(

And since then women being badass has been few and far between...  :'(

Well, there was the original idea for my Livewire... but information about her is something to be kept secret ;)

I have several character ideas, really, all of them equally fun. I could drop a level of sword savant from the second setup and go with my homebrew bloodline, Konpecki Shitai.

Edit: and the general consensus seems to be that Kishimoto and Kubo Tite don't like strong women.

Are you still accepting more players? I am not familar with the system you are using but am willing to learn, and I had an idea for a character for this type of plot for a while. If there is already enough players that is fine though. I know large system games get kinda messy.

and does anyone have a suggestion of where to find clear rules and descriptions of the system?

For those looking to make characters and need help, what is the basic idea behind your character? A swordsman? Someone who uses genjutsu (illusions) to attack?

Well, I want to get the system down anyway, but the idea I was going for was not so much a "clan". He will have no bloodline, but will focus around weapons, and genjutsus to slip his weapon techniques through. I would like to get him into Taijutsu but I need to figure out how the system works before I overextend what he can do. But I like weapon specialists. Kinda like Tenten but won't get roflstomped by everyone.

Well, there is the Weapon Master prestige class, which is focused on a single weapon to specialize in. There's also the Samurai prestige class, which gives you one of several weapon paths to use.

I think I'm going to go with my Livewire setup, I've already got some homebrew ideas for charms.

Was looking at that, just to check though, our starting level is 10 right?

Still playing around with ideas. Is it alright if my character is not really a part of a clan but was taught by a renegade and just went out as a mercenary for personal reasons with no real alliances?

Edit: Also, are exotic weapons acceptable? I see mentions of archaic and nin, but not exotic.

If I missed anything in the thread that answers this, my appologies.

I don't think there'd be a problem with making a wild card character of sorts if we are doing the ancient idea. I know I'm interested in using my own homebrew clan setup...

Well i think a good starting point for the game would be to have us with no villages established the clans relatively unaligned the various shinobi still establishing their place in the world and looking for leaders to unite a guide and provide a profitable future.

Personally I think it might be an interesting aspect to have one organization/nation arise, and start taking over the rest of the continent, and our little band comes together in order to protect whatever they care about from the spreading force. But I am up for anything.

I am looking at going fast/swordsavant/elementalist/devastator, but I am looking at level options. and prequisites

Fast hero is a base class, no need to worry about level and prereq there.

The other three... Sword Savant requires a BaB of +6. Devastator is something that you won't be able to get into until later, you need to be at least level 13. Elementalist requires a minimum of level 6....

Might I suggest breaking down the classes? Fast Hero4/Smart Hero2/Elementalist2/Sword Savant 2.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I was planning to go, Fast(as low as possible) -> Sword Savant to max, -> elementalist Max -> Devastator. Of course I can't start like this, but this was the progression I was looking at. I don't know if I can do that in 20 levels. I assumed I could meet the requirements within the levels, I believe.

that was the plan till I found the base attack requirements of the sword Savant and Elementalist. I am trying to figure out if it is possible to go Sword Savant, Elementalist(maybe two levels or so) then straight into devastator. but having trouble navigating the pdf. I can't find ability score modifiers. I am debating going fast for a few levels then going strong to get to Sword Savant relatively fast.

Still not sure, still working out the system.

What is the end result that you wish for your setup in terms of abilities? To swing a sword and launch a massive wave of flames?

The above is also something I suggest everyone who is new to the system look at. What is the goal for your character? What do you want them to do to be unique?

So after bouncing around a bit, I have set on Fast(3)/Shuriken Expert (6)/ Shade (1)

Some people disagree with me... but the cool thing about the system is that you can have two different characters... Both Smart 10/Ninja Scout 10. One of them is a ranged fighter that is capable of preforming the most impressive ninjutsu and genjutsu in the same round, specializing in the Mokuton element. The other is a Byakugan user who is almost undetectable, can track down an opponent over great distances... and attack their vital points with great accuracy while remaining hidden.

Class isn't particularly too important ..with some special exceptions (Like Puppeteers, for instance)

For Tick, I suppose the original idea is possible, with a little work... Perhaps Fast 6 , Elementalist 3, Sword Savant 6, Devastator 5 (BaB: +13/+8/+3 (+16/+11/+6 with Chakra State Weapon) ...Which is actually pretty good for a frontliner for Naruto D20.

I suppose you could switch those extra 3 Fast Hero levels with Ninja Scout to get more utility and general skills out of it.... but I digress;

My, Sword Savant is popular though. :P I've always preferred to express a mix of taijutsu and ninjutsu through techniques rather than class selection, personally. Still... I wouldn't mind seeing the class in action for once.

General Information
Name: Asakora, Seiaru
Alias: The crystal Nin
Gender: female
Age: 16
Country of Origin and Village: a small village between the lands of Wind and Fire
Current Residence: Wandering
History: Seiaru was wandering for days on end, the young girl having left her home after a terrible tragedy took place.. Many of her family were either destroied or missing. when her father turned up dead after using Dragon's eye level three, she was depressed, and cursed her bloodline limit, taking a Kunai to her own tattoo (given at the age of 10 to all Asakora children), she soon got over it when the clan patriarch took to training her personally.. One day the Asakora clan's Patriarch, Osorun Asakora, took hsi kunai to his only grand-daughter's face to attemtp to remov eher eyes. Why he did this is unknwon excet to her, and she speaks not a word of that day. Osorun was deemed insane and killed, but it left her with a scar physically, tho she can see out of it, as well as emotional scars. She herself took to wandering, trying to learn a way to get to level black without dying, She is determined to be the first. She has since met Okoru, a white bird she saved from being killed. She got it healed and it has been her constant friend ever since.

Visual Appearance:
Physical Appearance: Long Black hair, eyes that seem to be a pool of deep blue, she has a lithe build with a few scars, one being over her right eye, another being on her arm (self inflicted).
Clothing and Armor: Usualy wears black vest with Greyish undershit, red scarf that attached to her red belt to form a kind of hidden area where she will hide some of her Crystal kunai
Personality: A bit shy, she normally wont speak to others, this makes working on a team with her hard as when she does speak its usually for her jutsus. This mostly has to do with her past while a few others tend to think she keeps herself in a constant state of concentration, it is not known yet why she keeps to herself

Weapon Description: Kunai made of Crystalised material, often seen used by the Asakora Clan, these kunai are only 3 inchs longer than normal metal kunai.

Jutsu name (optional): Dragon's Eye Technique
Clan Jutsu: Dragon's Eye is simply put, that the eye changes colors depending on what level is being used,
level one is defensive blue This usualy includes the thorn Ball technique (rest time is 1 day)
level two is Red in color and typically means the user gains heightened senses, rest time is 3 days)
Level three is Green, and always sends the users body into overdrive, chakra is increased as well as the pluses of the last level, to use this for prolonge amount of time causes risk of paralisis or death. (rest time is anywhere from 7 to 12 days)
Level four is certain death, and a last resort Black, the Ckra becomes visible and the User's mind is wiped of anything but what they are doing at that moment, Body is at Risk of Obliterating in a Firey ball.. No one has taken this form and lived to tell, leaving it to be called the Suicide level. (no rest time.. user is dead by this lvl)

Type: Depends on the level, Offensive and Defensive

Hmm... I'm thinking straight up Smart Hero going into Elementalist then Devastator. There aren't any crystal specific techniques, but that doesn't mean you can't design any.

The kekkai genkai wouldn't be too hard to make, but settling on something specific would make pinning down the power easier. Dragon Eye (translates to Ryuugan), I'm not sure what it could specifically be, maybe an alternate name for Sharingan?

Interrant, because of how many new to the system people we have, I suggest we go with the Ryo variant instead of Wealth DC. It would make things a lot quicker for people getting equipment, instead of rolling for every level for wealth.

Crystal Release is in the book, as a Devastator ability;

"- Crystal Release: Shoton (requires Earth and Ice affinity) (Su): The hybrid attack deals half cold and half earth damage. This hybrid type applies only to Ninjutsu techniques either the cold or earth descriptor, and includes whichever descriptor is missing. It ignores object hardness fully. Objects created from Shoton hybrids gain +6 hardness."

Now, so is Hyouton- so normally I would say that you could use a feat at 1st level or take a bloodline to use it without the Devastator class, but there's a catch- ...crystal release requires an Ice affinity to even work. So that's Water, Wind, Earth (Which is normally impossible for a Hyouton user unless they are a genius nin because they do not gain additional elements without Elemental Mastery.... So that's almost a 3 feat burn-up. But I digress.

Simple solution? Make a Shoton feat, but balance it somewhat by perhaps making it the character's only element, sort of like how Hyouton limits you to three.

Shoton
Prerequisite: Primary elemental affinity (earth), can only be taken at 1st level, heroic character.
Benefit: You can learn Shoton ninjutsu techniques. You do not gain elemental affinities from levels.
Normal: A character without this feat cannot learn Shoton techniques.

As for the Dragon's Eye... Hrmmm. No other bloodline 'changes' like that (except maybe the Plotingan, but it's usually an upgrade) but it might be easy enough to make by mish-mashing maybe the Cursed Seal with the Akimichi pills.

I really have to start using that character generator more, Fox. I tend not to trust it for some reason... :P Although I tend to go to obscene lengths to preserve a character concept despite whatever complexity or balance issues it might create, I have to concede that a Katon Elementalist with the Sharingan would be less work. :P

I might suggest Shinobi Adept over Ninja Scout though, if you want to go pure Ninjutsu.

 I was referring to techniques that are shotonjutsu specific  ;) We would need to homebrew those, which wouldn't be too hard to adapt them from other techniques.

Adapting the Curse Seal might work of course, I went with minor sharingan for ease of use.

 She's pretty powerful when it comes to Katon/Soton techniques. Elemental Fury gives you +1/die damage to your techniques while Limitless Fury means you increase your ranged techniques by half again. So a technique that does 6d6 damage in a 60ft cone instead does 6d6+6 damage in a 90ft cone.

What is the limit on training techniques? Can we take the chakra pool boosting techniques?

Would anyone prefer a straight wealth bonus of 20? Plus bonuses from occupation, windfall, genin/chuunin/ect.?

I'm writing up the initial post, now... so far we have three character sheets but I can take more. :P

But I has questions.

What're people looking for? An episodic mission-based game? A fully-fledged plotline with arcs? A mix between the two? And what about the 'clan' of the PCs itself? A band of mercenaries? More like an extended family? What do they seek to accomplish? Moar Money? Powah? Peace and Justice for all? :P

Who is in charge? Namely, I need to know if;
A. The PCs are the only members of the clan, and they rule themselves by appointing a leader or just making decisions by consensus, sort of like any other adventuring party.... or....
B. The PCs are part of a larger hierarchical clan, which might decide their goals, aims, direction, and alliances (ect. ect.) and is led by most likely a more powerful NPC.

And what is the PCs' clan's name? :P

 As the one who suggested we go with the straight bonus, I would be perfectly fine with it :P

A mix is fine with me, but whatever is easiest to plan out and go with is preferred. I'm one for putting as little pressure on the sucker GM running the game.

For the clan, I would suggest that we're something like a mix of smaller clans who have united into a larger one to keep from getting destroyed by the larger powers.

Yamagi's goals are simple. She loves to fight. I could go into a nice little speech about how much she loves to fight, but it's simpler to say that Kenpachi could be considered her father.

I do hope you'll have to pardon me, it's been a very very shitty week as far as work goes and I haven't had much time, energy, or motivation to brainstorm new ideas; but so far I have...

How about this? The entire organization is maybe 30 or so people. The PCs will represent the strongest 4 or 5 (or how ever many) characters in that organization, and so make decisions sort of jointly as any adventuring party would. Some people, like Seiaru, would only represent themselves, while Nival represents the interests of his 4 siblings (whether they know about his activities or not) and Yamagi might be in charge of the redshirt manpower if the Fuuryuu clan tags along, I don't know very much about Hosh. :P

I'm having a hard time coming up with a plot... and i know it might be lame to switch gears so late when people already have character concepts, but what do you think of this?

It's the year 20XX on the planet Earth. Since the end of the Meiji Restoration, the ninjas clans have spread throughout the far corners of the world. There are no shinobi who go by the name of Uchiha, Hyuuga or Uzumaki... There are, however, the clans of Iga, Kōga, Hattori, Katō, and many others are still thriving. Based on the historical ninja clans of feudal japan, these schools have spread all across the world. No longer purely a japanese thing, ninja exist in every continent across the globe in secret. Some of these clans have done nothing more than train young children in their ways, while others have served as international spies or government agents, and many serving only their own ambitions.

The PCs are members of these clans. Perhaps all from one place, or from around the world.

The setting would actually be D20 Modern... with a little bit of futurism thrown in, I think. The geopolitical landscape might be vastly different from modern day Earth, so as to present the maximum amount of fun and conflict. :D

What does everyone think?

CharGen would otherwise be the same, except plot-relevant things unique to Naruto might be absent (Ie: No tailed beasts, no seven swordsmen or kages, although a form of hidden villages might exist, sharingan wouldn't have any meta-plot relevance like it does in the canon) ...which wouldn't really effect any of the PCs as far as I can tell.

Most of the clans have become fully absorbed into their respective cultures or host nations. A clan in Africa, for instance, might have a japanese name and origin known only to them- but all the members are otherwise indistinguishable from the common populace, some without any japanese blood in them at all- and those that do might be 1/16th or something.

Others might have no relation to japan at all. Perhaps the legends and myths of werewolves were in reality the rumors of a 'ninja clan' in Europe. Ninjas in all but the name.

I like the idea, and I had tried something similar at one point. My own DM'ing skills are fairly poor and I ran into some RL trouble at the time, so it failed rather miserably.

This could work if done right. I would imagine most major powers already know of the existence of Ninja, but such information is so restricted that most national leaders are in the dark. Depending on the setup, we could do something like international secret police or simply a small group of extremely elite mercenaries.

I'm only familiar with the naturo shippuden anime series and havn't gotten very far at it. I did enjoy the characters of Sasori and Deidara. Not sure if something similar to those could be created since I have no experience with naruto D20

I was thinking that we could take a page from 00 Gundam. Our organization has been hidden from the world for the past two hundred years, formed shortly after the second World War ended to prevent any future wars on such a scale. Since then, the organization has been silently and stealthily keeping world peace.

The world has changed. The first signs of space colonies can be seen, with elevators leading to low orbit stations, with populations in the thousands. These elevators double as conduits for the world's primary source of power, massive arrays of solar panels. Treaties prevent any armed conflicts from being held around either the panel arrays or civilian colonies, but that has not prevented the major powers of the world from setting up military stations. The moon itself has remained untouched by any structures.
