I'm sure there's other people on here who like a good spook every once and a while - so why not share your favorites? Any form of horror - video games, movies, books, creepy pastas, etc - is welcome here. Though probably don't embed anything too gory - or anything that would violate the site rules, of course.

Note: This is more a place to share stuff you personally enjoy and/or think other people might like, rather than a place to discuss what makes for 'good' or 'bad' horror material. Though I wouldn't be opposed to making another thread for that if people were interested. Definitely no mocking/bashing people's tastes in this thread.

I'll start off with some of my fav's:

  • SOMA - Great game with a real spooky, isloated atmosphere, really nice psychological bent to it
  • Blair Witch Project - Liked the first movie too, but this one is easily my fav morror movie, saw it in the theatre like 3 times
  • NaturesTemper - Youtube channel that does readings of creepypastas and SCP entries. He's got good pacing and an easy to listen to voice, though of course the quality of videos is really up to whoever wrote what he's reading. My favorite so far would have to be 'Dogs Know They Aren't Human.'

I'm a fan of supernatural horror, not into slashers or torture porn, which seems to be all the rage with movies. :-\

My favourite horror books have been, for many years now, Dean Koontz's Phantoms and Clive Barker's Weaveworld. Early Stephen King is great as well; I've lost track of his work in later years. Of more recent, less known works, I have enjoyed Sarah England's occult horror trilogy (Father of Lies, Tanner's Dell, Magda).

If you're into podcasts, apart from the classic Welcome to Night Vale, there's Chilling Tales for Dark Nights and their offshoots, as well as my beloved Lore.
To go in the dark with a light is to know the light.
To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight,
and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,
and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.
~Wendell Berry

I'm not a big fan of Horror...But I do have some recommendations.
The Netflix movie The Ritual was really effing scary, and in a very good way.
There's also the Swedish podcast Creepypodden, but yeah..That's only in Swedish.

Jeremy Robinson writes some of the best horror books I have ever read.  I haven't read all the ones he has out now and there's a number coming out on the horizon.  Haven't yet read one of his that I wouldn't give a minimal of a 7/10.  Most of them have been 10/10's for me.

CryptTV, this channel makes short horror films. The creature design and visuals tend to be very high quality. They also like to mix it up in terms of genre with some shorts being straight-up horror and others being more morbidly comical.

I also have a host of horror narrators and web series I recommend but I'll add those in when I'm able to provide more context to the links provided.

Oh, I've got stuff to say about this.

There's a streaming service called Shudder, which is basically Netflix for nothing but horror. You can also get it as an Amazon channel.

The best horror movies in recent years are probably: It Follows, The VVitch, The Babadook. Hereditary is supposed to be great but I haven't seen it yet. There's a bunch of horror that I have a personal soft spot for, but it's easier to make recommendations if people know what they're looking for. The problem with horror is that it's actually a lot of very different genres that get reductively classified together.

I haven't kept up with horror novels as much lately, but a few years back Stephen King published one called Revival that was very good.
